Oh knock it off folks, Bozzio is an incomparable Musician, not just a drummer. Jesus, if you play for Frank, you got something going on. That most of the rest of us don't. Shut up and listen!!!
Wauw! Bozzio simply is *brilliant*. Why do I always come back to the Zappa-Bozzio-Holdsworth-Cobham-Metheny era? Anyone have a clue? The beauty of this piece (and lots of Zappa) is that humor is combined with a very complex rithmic and melodic 'enema', wauw, just great!
Flawless!!!!!! I've been listening to this song since 8th grade!!!! My dad took some friends and me to see BABY SNAKES at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh around '81 or '82. Terry Bozzio blew my mind!
I played 20 years. No one comes close to Terry Ted. And if you don't believe me, see him live. No drummer tours solo - and there is one part of the show he leaves the set and plays a fucking BUCKET and still blows doors. He's the master.
I first met Terry Bozzio in 1998. I asked him a legit question about his playing at a drum clinic and he totally ignored my question and went on to tear me a new one. It was as if he’d been given a piece of paper with everything that was wrong with my life at the time and he knew how to fix it. In front of about 150 drummers he deconstructed my whole life and told me what I needed to do with it to progress. I’ve never felt so humble or had such amazing advice. I will never forget that day or what he said. He’s an absolute genius in my eyes and can do no wrong. Be under no illusion. He can kick ass on any kit. I hope to meet him again someday and I will remind him of that day, I very much doubt that he will remember but for me it was a pivotal moment in my life.....
It is simply the BEST BAND WORLDWIDE ... Thanks to Mr Zappa for resurrecting his father's repertoire with such talent and virtuosity. It's pure musical delight.
I do agree that the full dynamics of the Baby Snakes version really is going to trump a UA-cam video, and Bozzio's really revamped his kit from the late 70's. On the other hand, seeing this live is still pretty amazing. He could have played it on cardboard boxes for all I cared. Huge thanks to Dweezil for allowing everyone to enjoy this live. Amazing stuff.
Ron Kosakowski well-said......The work it takes to do anything this band does is magnanimous but seems absolutely fluid to them.....and all those players had at least these chops when they joined? to play songs with so much complexity then suddenly and in unison plug in a complete change in style and feel, at greased lightning speed :) Spellbinding at its least. They played a full show in Baltimore on an outdoor stage, entire block was cordoned off...... in commemoration of a statue of Frank erected at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Highlandtown, with a great quote of his read to the audience during ceremony "if you want to get laid, go to college. if you want an education, go to a library". I was very fortunate to hook up with VIP passes, and a quite long show on a perfect day in his hometown :)
The average person who does not see artwork here will think its a bunch of sounds blended together at best. Those of us who see the air-sculptures will continue to play this kind of music.
a shame frank didn't live longer period and especially to see the evolution of Dwezzil Bozzio and Vai Bozzio's timing is impeccable and love the melodic playing
Watching this now, it is incredible to see how much BETTER Dweezil has gotten... Not that he was bad, but he has certainly progressed. Saw him last week and it was fantastic.
Playing this music for years at this level of ambition is bound to make you good if you have his talent. I love what they're doing. Saw them play in Reykjavik, Iceland, about ten years ago. It was a great show and I remember how musical Dweezil's solos were. They were a bit unlucky with the venue. I hope they return to Reykjavik soon to play at the new Harpa Concert Hall. That would be pure ecstasy.
@Alex11710 well the mic he is using a Shure Beta56A. The Beta56 has an hypercardiod pattern, so it will repel any unwanted noise from de back! in the case of Terry the loud cymbals, also he is almost eating the mic so the proximity of his singing will make a prevalent "only" vocal take! but i do agreed that some kind of noise gate is also in place to avoid any unwanted sounds. Hope that helped! XD
OMG please re-upload this in better quality... probably my fave Zappa song/composition due to Mr. Bozzio's performance. I love his blinkity-blink and his blank-blank-blank!
They're very brave to play this. Some things are of course impossible to reproduce from Zappa's performances. But some parts are even more interesting. Nice give and take.
Mega thanks , i 've got Zappa's virus since a young boy , this is so cool to put on line Terry on dweesil's tour , man awsome !!!!!!! BANG !!! TERRY !!!!!
Nah to all those cynics out there. This is a celebration by his son, of his Dad, surely you can see that? It´s beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Frank said, after a question about how he would be remembered, ´´I won´t´´ he replied. The joy of his music lives on.
I love Bozzio. I like the two versions, 1979 and this, the sounds of drums is very diferent. The words are "fuck" for 1979 and "remember" for this, Two amazing! Thanks. Van Shake)))
Great performance!!!! Just keep in mind: this is zappa plays zapps - not the original. Bozzio was a hero even back in the good old days of the original.
I thought I would come here to contemplate the fleeting magic of youth energy but sheiiit he is still kinda as good as that curly haired speedo wearing maniac he used to be ❤️
Because she’s very pretty and musically talented, have you ever seen her performance of Saint Alfonso’s pancake breakfast? It’s always nice to see her spanking her butt at the sausage patty line
i agree that terry is awesome on this and does what he does, but to be honest to even think about tackling ANY of Frank's more difficult material takes guts in my book.the polyrhythmic stuff on its own is enough to scare a mere mortal either to the woodshed for months upon end or just make one flat out want to quit.not to mention the complexity of the melodic structures that he wrote with.ANY body that can pull that stuff off cleanly gets kudos from me.
@b0b1919 he's the only person I've heard pull off Eddie's 'Eruption' anywhere near the original version. Dweezil just seems to be able to do it all. No wonder he ended up in Frank's band at the age of 16
This arrangement is a bit over the top, but Bozzio really stand out. I think if Frank Xappa we’re alive today he’d love how overboard this whole setup was. I think if he could invest a billion dollars into his music I think he would have. He’d have like seven sets of xylophones, that drum kit Bozzio is playing on in this video, many guitars and only the finest musicians in the world.
@wingnutofcoolness - I guess that would make sense, but it seems like the cymbals would be way louder than his voice, like a noise gate that could block out all that sound woud definitely block out his voice.
Definatly listen to that version, its just so powerful.May sound like bragging but I was there 3 of the 4 nights. ECHIDNA"S ARF to you my friend Raey1959
Oh knock it off folks, Bozzio is an incomparable Musician, not just a drummer. Jesus, if you play for Frank, you got something going on. That most of the rest of us don't. Shut up and listen!!!
Word
This song keeps getting better year after year. So many intricate parts. Musicianship at it's best.
I just watched the version from 1977 yesterday, and then stumble across this now. Really amazing to see him still nail this.
I think Bozzio is only truly happy when he’s playing Zappa songs.
You think wrong.
@@gomiwomi
Nah. I’m right.
@@gomiwomihe’s not wrong
@@patton303100% right sir 🥁🥁🥁
@@cliffspencer9989 Are you inside Bozzio's head or did Bozzio tell you that?

Make mine 100% Arabica beans!
6:59 - Terry drops a stick and recovers without losing the beat or the vocal. Awesome.
Flawless!!!!!! I've been listening to this song since 8th grade!!!! My dad took some friends and me to see BABY SNAKES at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh around '81 or '82. Terry Bozzio blew my mind!
every thing in this song , every second of this song is amazing
I played 20 years. No one comes close to Terry Ted. And if you don't believe me, see him live. No drummer tours solo - and there is one part of the show he leaves the set and plays a fucking BUCKET and still blows doors. He's the master.
Dweezil has taken Franks music to a new level. Amazing. Isn't it?
I still can't believe I got to see this. Just amazing.
its bananas enough to play this but to sing it at the same time.?!?!?!incredible

Do you mind sharing the advice
Would love to hear his advice
fantastic video Terry is just shredding the drums I love it
Bozzio is a drum GOD ....he is way up there with the BEST
Viva PUNKY MEADOWS!
Catch Angel on tour! Belgium this August 22!
It is simply the BEST BAND WORLDWIDE ...
Thanks to Mr Zappa for resurrecting his father's repertoire with such talent and virtuosity.

Man, this is one of my favorite FZ songs. Carry on those air-sculpture Dweezle. You are doing great. I can only imagine the work it takes to do this.

Not to mention the theater of it.
That dude in the audience at 6:48 knows what's up!!!! He jammin!!!
He Got that side to side swag sway
Still kicks ass close to 70yrs old & Terry's still a beast!.....he looks like he's in his 40s.....
Terry's still got it. Amazing performance!
I love to hear Bozzio play Zappa.❤
Terry never fails to impress , but singing in the style of Frank AND playing too? fucking incredible!
Crap 14 years later. Bozio always sang that song bro😅
What a cute little drummer.
Must have know him when he was 18... Ouf!!!!
thats terry ted!
As a casual observer, I never knew Terry had these vocal chops. This an incredible performance all around!
check the original

Bozzio, as all of Zappa's drummers embody is virtuosity and excellence, due to Zappa's obsession with beat...
@Alex11710 well the mic he is using a Shure Beta56A. Oh yessss ! That's what Terry is really made for !
Guess Terry gave up the Speedos.
I actually thought it was more of a diaper....It was very strange. Terry was always very ahead of his time in terms of percussion. Very talented.
Sharkbiteleft why'd you think it was a diaper?
Cut off a sweats.
Damn shame.
*mourning*
Leave us face it, Terry Bozzio was a force to be reckoned with playing with Frank Zappa! And Mr Zappa had some incredible drummers!
Terry has so much FEEL.
Bozzio is the shit. The 3 best drummers I've ever seen live....Bozzio with Jeff beck, Vinnie with FZ, and Dennis Chambers with Steely Dan.
OMG please re-upload this in better quality... probably my fave Zappa song/composition due to Mr. Bozzio's performance. I love his blinkity-blink and his blank-blank-blank!
J Grove this is excellent but you should see the live version on baby snakes if you haven't seen it already
Thanks for the ad right during this incredible music, WTF!

THE RICTUS IS EXCEPTIONALLY STRONG HERE
It looks as if Terry's kit has had a few kids and grandkids in the last 35 years.
Been playing for 40 years, he is insane just incomprehensible

I feel compelled to comment, but I don't any words that do justice to how good this is.
Dweezil has become such an amazing player
This is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you, this is spectacular.
This band is TIGHT! I love the Live in New York version, this comes pretty close.
You think this took bravery to pick? Terry Bozzio carries the fuck out of this song, and he did when it was played with Frank.
I'm high AS FUCK and this is SPECTACULAR!
I was not on the original Live in New York album but appeared on the CD version later.
It's performed on the Baby Snakes DVD.
это просто великолепно! браво!
Bloody Great! Fantastic! Unbelievable!

Saw this performed twice on the first ZPZ tour. Dweezil's original ZPZ lineup of extremely talented folks. Bonus....Steve Vai was included.
I didn’t know Liam Neeson was on tour with Dweezil. Cool!
Great performance!!!!
Just keep in mind: this is zappa plays zapps - not the original. Bozzio was a hero even back in the good old days of the original.
Looks like these young musicians feel the spirit of Frank thru the inspiring expression of Terry.
I thought I would come here to contemplate the fleeting magic of youth energy but sheiiit he is still kinda as good as that curly haired speedo wearing maniac he used to be ❤️
Bozzio rules!!
To just call Terry a drummer is offensive.
i didnt even know bozzio could sing! now he IS the beast
Tremendous rendition!!
He's a little fond of chiffon in a wrist array-e-ay-e-ayyyyy!! love it.
God I love Sheila !!! :))
Amazing he still sounds the same
Why is Sheila Gonzales so hot
Cause she is banging on all cylinders. Not to mention she is a super nice to boot, having met her twice.
hot????????????????????????????
Because she’s very pretty and musically talented, have you ever seen her performance of Saint Alfonso’s pancake breakfast? It’s always nice to see her spanking her butt at the sausage patty line
Darn hot!!!
Meraviglioso Bozzio
I would have loved to be at this show.
This is like watching an octopus play the drums.
Terry is still hilarious, and sings the song just the same as he did in the 83.
mezmerising to watch this band

That roll at 6:25
Ow, you're bending it!
Not quite the same when he's not in his underpants.

Liam Neeson fcking idol!
Bozzio is a genius!
Ferocious Viciousness...
Surreal Terry!
there are so many great drummers in the world. but only 2 that could blow my mind. there are Terry Bozzio & Virgil Donati.
cozy powell, danny carey eric carr

@zwartepiet412 - Zappa in NY came out before Missing Persons was formed.
That guitar looks very familiar
Amazing indeed!!
Definatly listen to that version, its just so powerful.May sound like bragging but I was there 3 of the 4 nights. ECHIDNA"S ARF to you my friend Raey1959
what a nightmare for the drum roadie
SYMPHONIC
They should invite Punky to join them up there
Props to Bozzio for being the best sport in Rock music!! 😂👍
Bozzio! ❤️
@Squee36 I think in the live in ny version,he was experimenting with the tempo but he never played it that slow again so he realized it didnt work.
Good Lord! Epic.
