Chester is the coolest dude out there. A wonderful human being. He made the all of the greatest rock, jazz, blues, pop, dance, disco and alternative bands the stars of their time. There isn't a genre that he can not play.
The original drummer on this recording was Jim Gordon, an L.A. studio drummer, and composer of the instrumental portion of "Layla". He ended up in prison for life because he killed his Mom. "Voices" told him to do so. A sad ending for such an amazing talent. He was one of the most tight timekeepers, EVER. Now instead of keeping time, he's doing time.
Don't make fun of Jim's mental illness. It was severe and became debilitating over time. The marvel was that he functioned at a high level for so long.
Where's Jack Bruce fuzz bass?! altho Kurt Morgan quite respectable bass solo there. If you look at a milk-bone, the crooks of the biscuit form an apostrophe
Kind of a boring jam. Chester is capable of so much more but this was one of Zappa's most mundane pieces of music. They probably figured with no rehearsal nothing could have gone wrong with this one.
Nah, all the instruments are on fire here during their solos. The only thing boring is the chord sequence, but the whole point on the album was to come out of the jam with that insane guitar over drive on the back beat in the final section where it swings with the bass. Dweezil kinda limp handshaked his way through those final few measures for some reason.
