I made the mistake of listening to this today, a day after his passing, and I cried like a baby. There will never be another Jeff Beck, and I am grateful to have known the beauty of the man and his music. I have never been so impacted by the loss of an "entertainer", so to speak, but he was an absolute giant, and he will be missed tremendously by millions who adored him and will treasure his legacy. RIP, my brother. I hope to one day share a pint and thank you in person for all that you have meant to me. Devastated.
Oh man, me too.....beautifully said. I've played guitar for over fifty years and Jeff was my hero, always will be. The day after we all heard I was driving along listening to Planet Rock and Wyatt gave a heartfelt tribute and played Hammerhead....that was it, I had to pull over because I couldn't drive for all the tears. I was like that for days.....thank goodness all my friends and colleagues understood. The thing I loved the most about Jeff was that everything he did was high risk, especially live, and there was no hiding place...it could go either way. Seeing him live was like seeing a boxer enter the ring, a fearless spirit who never stopped pushing the boundaries of his own creativity. He did so much for others too, rarely spoken of, and he was such a great champion for women in music as well. He was one of one and we'll never see his like again, but we are so blessed to have his amazing body of work to enjoy forever. For anyone that hasn't heard it, listen to 'The Final Peace' on 'There And Back' then ponder that he did it in ONE TAKE......it chokes me up every single time, so full of emotion and beauty, the technique totally serving the music as only he could do. If I see you at the bar one day TheBlueskyson, the next round is on me......👍
@@rosaiahbyrd8721 And here I am as well. Brian's heartfelt remembrance was very moving. Much respect to these musicians past and present, they give us so much.
David Gilmour said this is impossible to play. He tried. He couldn’t. Playing the melody, at the right pitch, while gently grazing the fret boards, mixing in subtle harmonics, controlling the volume control with his little finger. Outstanding. None better. Tops. Number one.
I wonder if Beck was inspired by the sing listed below. Even has the "Where were you" refrain in it. See what you think. The song it Reminds me of "Comming back to life" from the Division Bell Album of Pink Floyd... "Where were you when I was hurt and helpless"
Has to be the most beautiful song ever played on an electric guitar, and still his country has not shown a proper tribute to their greatest modern musician, can celebrate things like the first black train driver but not recognize their own once in a life time magical guitarist.god rest your soul Jeff, we all really miss you.
In a career full of iconic instrumental statements-the “Bolero”, “Rice Pudding”, “Definitely Maybe”, “Because We’ve Ended…”, “Pork Pie Hat”, “Angel (Footsteps)”-this piece may be the summit of Jeff’s art. A masterpiece.
This is raw beauty put into music. Amongst the most incredibly haunting songs I've heard in my life. Nobody could touch Jeff. What a gift. And what a loss...
On my bucket list was to see Jeff Beck live. Very lucky to have managed that this past summer in Austin, Texas. Front row center by a karmic twist of fate. Then he passed away shortly after. I'm very saddened, but grateful that I had that rare opportunity. I've appreciated Jeff Beck since the early 70s, (before that even, with the Yardbirds), and have followed his work ever since. He's probably the best guitarist ever, in his virtuosity and ability. A humble gentle soul whose spirit and greatness certainly transcends the fleeting present.
I loved Jeff Beck. Saw him several times. I queued outside Ronnie Scott's on a chilly November night - no ticket. Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Robert Plant all arrived. At the last minute the doorman summoned me and I slipped £70 into his hand and I was admitted into the inner sanctum. Even at 20 feet away it was impossible to say how he produced the sounds from his Strat. The best gig ever. Pure genuis. Touching to see that so many hold him in high regard as an outstanding guitarist and human being.
To play this song is like walking on a high wire above the Grand Canyon. One small slip and the whole thing is ruined. I can see why David Gilmore said it is unplayable by anyone else. This is a perfect example of what made Jeff Beck so unique and uncopyable. There will never be another like him.
I've watched this video dozens of times. And each time I am moved to tears. There was nobody like him. Nobody. This video will stand the test of time. 50 years from now, it will still have the same affect on those who watch and listen to it. Stunningly beautiful. I so hope there is an afterworld, and that he is still able to create masterpieces like this.
Absolutely stunning guitar playing. There is an angelic quality in his playing that can’t be replicated by us mere mortals. He was otherworldly. I can’t believe he’s gone. It hurts badly and we’ll all never get over your passing so sudden and soon. My one and only guitar hero since as long as I can remember from the 70’s when I was in high school. I’m totally devastated.
THIS is what being good at guitar means. He couldnt and didnt hide behind the noise of other instruments or super fast playing or bags of distortion. He played ever note like he meant it and you could hear every single one. His use of touch, harmonics and dynamics just bring something so fragile and beautiful to this piece.
That's why he's a master of his craft This song kills me I dedicated it IMEDIETLY to a childhood friend who died young Suicide Why no.one knows He was apparently a content very happy guy His family is still.confused
This isn't "being good at guitar", anyone can " be good" at anything. This is God given talent allied to a ferocious work ethic. That's like saying Salvador Dali was "good at painting!!" 🤣
Six years after, ...nothing hadn't changed, i like so much this track, ...i hope you feel so much in your life , Jeff !!! God bless you! ( but, i don't belive in god, that' s a problem for me !!! I belive only you!!! )
I've owned a Strat or two since 1974, and have idolized Beck since before then, and never in my wildest dreams could I play that. Aside from his touch with the strings and on the fretboard, what he does with the whang bar and the volume knob is simply unimaginable for mortals like me. RIP, Jeff; you made all of our lives richer.
I feel fortunate that I managed to see him last Summer with Johnny Depp and he was absolutely killing it. Surreal that he passed so suddenly. Absolute legend. 🙌🏼💔🙏🏼
I bought the album that track is on when it first came out. When I got to this track, it left me an emotional wreck. No one, and I mean no one is as expressive with a guitar as is Jeff Beck. The fact that a human mind can discover and render such sounds blows my mind.
Listening today in remembrance of Jeff on Brian May's recommendation. RIP Jeff Beck...there is no one like you...Where were you when you heard Jeff Beck was gone from us today?
Well fck it, the naster has left the building, he left us a great collection of ungodly music. He also left too early, along his journey he took my heart with him RIP Jeff. You were one of a kind. My kind
The more I wallow in Jeff's passing, the more I understand that the feeling of loss is about who he was as a human being, which was perfectly expressed in his playing.
Probably the most beautiful and completely unique instrumental guitar ballad of all time. Jeff was always getting better and better and periodically revolutionizing the world of guitar playing.
Pure poetry, emotion, depth and mastery on the electric guitar ... THANK YOU JEFF, for gracing us with your amazing unique talent and your passion for music and excelence over so many decades 🙏🏼💖 ... may your SOUL rest in peace now 🙏🏼💜☮ ... fly high MAESTRO 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼✨✨✨❣❣❣
In tears here! so good, work of a master, notes from out of pace, sad loss to us all who have grown up listening to Jeff, Thoughts also to his family xxxx
Where are you Jeff ? I miss you. You were the greatest musician who ever lived. No one can play the guitar like you. Even God can't play better than you.I love you Jeff.
I have heard this hundreds of times and I was thrilled and delighted. But now there is a lot of sadness. David Gilmour said this can't be played and he said that honestly and with respect. David, who is probably one of the best, but then who is Jeff Beck? Such honest words from David make it clear who we have lost now. He was one of the very best guitarists and he will remain so forever. What a loss. Jeff R.I.P. We will miss you so much.
Wow, this is just a beautiful and haunting piece of musical genius. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up! Thank you to Brian May of Queen for recommending this. Jeff you will always be a musical genius and thank goodness we have recordings such as this. Thank you for the music ❤
This song leaves me breathless. I'm still trying to get over the loss of Jeff. Tears flow when I listen to this track. I don't know if I will ever get over this loss. I'm so accustomed to "what is Jeff going to surprise me with next year". It really hurts.
Jeff was a superhuman musician, an infinite heart beat behind that Rocker hair, indescribable sensitivity capable of speaking to the soul...I love you Jeff,
I can't stop listening to this version, runs through my head all day. I bought the album when it came out though I never really became a Beck Fanatic, I still listened and appreciated immensely. This song really sums it all up and it's simplicity says everything without speaking a single letter. A true original is never forgotten.
Jeff Beck....pure genius. A privilege to grow up around his incredible talent. Thanks Brian May for saying what we are all thinking and feeling. RIP Jeff. You will live on through your music.
Looks like we're in Brian May's debt for recommending this exquisite rendering of Where Were You. Even the title of the piece tugs at the heartstrings! So, yes, my heartfelt thanks, too, to Brian May for introducing us to this little-known composition from the late, great J Beck.
That's awesome. I play both piano and guitar, neither one well enough to get paid. Yet. Seeing a pro classical pianist awakening to Jeff Beck and calling his music a "revelation" is, well, a revelation. I own almost everything he's ever recorded, and I would humbly direct you to his albums Blow By Blow, Wired, and Guitar Shop for a decent start. I virtually guarantee the musical variety and musicianship on those three will completely astonish you and send you on a happy search for more cheers

Thank you Brian May for recommending this song after Jeff's Passing....this song is beautiful. I will appreciate Jeff's work even more 🤘❤️
Me too, to my eternal shame I only came across this after Brian May's suggestion as part of his tribute to Jeff. Sublime.
I am ALSO here because of Brian May....BEAUTIFUL MUSIC for sure!
I’m here also because of Brian May.
Brian may sent me. Love this song
Sir May led me here
RIP Jeff, you absolute legend!
I’ve never heard anything like this piece before, what a player, what a man.
THE MASTER!
The Mozart of our era. Simply stunning performance
This is one of the most expressive pieces of music EVER composed for and performed with a guitar, without a doubt. A masterpiece
Definitely
Brian May recommended this transformative piece in memory of Jeff. Amazing...
@@rosaiahbyrd8721 And here I am as well. Brian's heartfelt remembrance was very moving. Much respect to these musicians past and present, they give us so much.
Precision engineering on a guitar without doubt🎶🎸👍💕
And somehow he’s always in tune
Jeff made the guitar cry and sing more than anyone.. There will always be a void in the music world after his passing.
David Gilmour said this is impossible to play. He tried. He couldn’t. Playing the melody, at the right pitch, while gently grazing the fret boards, mixing in subtle harmonics, controlling the volume control with his little finger. Outstanding. None better. Tops. Number one.
…..a bit of a JB fan then, eh, Mike??!!…..(aye, me too!!)
ua-cam.com/video/s3PbnqhBEFQ/v-deo.html Check this KID out then!!!
do you know the song " no way out of Here " by DG?
I wonder if Beck was inspired by the sing listed below. Even has the "Where were you" refrain in it. See what you think. The song it Reminds me of "Comming back to life" from the Division Bell Album of Pink Floyd... "Where were you when I was hurt and helpless"
First lyric of Pink Floyd's 'Coming Back To Life' (whose intro has a similar vibe to this) is "where were you. . .". Accident?
Has to be the most beautiful song ever played on an electric guitar, and still his country has not shown a proper tribute to their greatest modern musician, can celebrate things like the first black train driver but not recognize their own once in a life time magical guitarist.god rest your soul Jeff, we all really miss you.

It said the most. With the least amount of notes . Best Wishes
Kind regards from British Columbia Jeff was my hero
1:39...that is the sound of a soul crying out!
Fr man, that's my favorite jeff beck moment
This is raw beauty put into music. Amongst the most incredibly haunting songs I've heard in my life. Nobody could touch Jeff. What a gift. And what a loss...
Most magnificent piece of guitar ever created....thanks Jeff
RIP Mr. Beck. You will be missed beyond measure. 😢

RIP Jeff Beck. Thank you for the great music and memories
Thank you Brian May for nominating this track, it’s beyond my imagination to imagine the melody let alone extract it from a guitar. RIP..
Brian May sent me here. RIP Jeff Beck.🙏

RIP Jeff. So sad that we lost arguably the greatest living guitarist today. It’s music like this that makes one immortal though.

I greatly admire his sparse, soulful, tasteful perfect musical expression.
Thankyou Jeff! One of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. Rest peacefully.
When Jeff passed away, I never realised he had so many many fans. I always thought of him as niche fusion genius.
These tones will be even more poignant from now on. You'll live forever, in our minds and in the history of music.
Dear Shredders. Please note... inflexion is more important for musical expression of the emotions than how many notes a second you can play.

This is what makes Jeff Beck so good. His skills as not only a musician, but his unmatched artistry as a guitar player. Fantastic.
That’s why he was called the governor or the one I like, The Hands of God.
Couldn’t be a more fitting clip as we say farewell to this incredible man. Enough said.
The uncopyable, effervescent, preternaturally soulful, utterly unique sound of Jeff Beck. A giant has left us.
I feel fortunate that I managed to see him last Summer with Johnny Depp and he was absolutely killing it. Surreal that he passed so suddenly. Absolute legend. 🙌🏼💔🙏🏼

Makes you shed a tear to think he isn't around anymore to enjoy his mastery.
This song never made me cry...up until......now.
I miss Jeff, there will be no one to replace his style, class or skills as the baddest guitarists who ever lived.
He pulls the music from the strings. There’s only one Jeff Beck.👍👍
God rest his soul.
Thanks for all your incredible music, Jeff. Been listening for 57 years and have loved every note! RIP

“A KING HAS HIS REIGN, AND THEN HE DIES.”
But in the case of some, their legend will live on LONG after their passing. Jeff Beck is one of those.
This is a brilliant piece of art. Deserves more recognition.

It always brings me to tears this track. Even more so now. A master at control and touch. We miss you Jeff😢
RIP to the true guitar genius of our time.
Jeff's reaction after Tals solo is priceless, think it even catches him out a little bit.

Such a gorgeous sound and technique
You are an absolute legend. Show God in heaven, who is the best guitar player.
RIP Jeff Beck. 🙏🎸
One of the greats! So very unique and innovative. Rest In Peace, Mr. Beck.
I had the privilege of see Jeff beck live at Hammersmith Apollo back in the 90s . The only word I can think of to describe that experience is SUBLIME.
