The term genius should be used with care, but Jeff was a genius. While other guitarists hide behind mindless shredding, he put so much soul in each and every note he played. And he continued to evolve his sound over decades. One of a kind.
Rick Beato came up with the right word to describe Jeff Beck's guitar playing: Uncopyable. JB was such a genius and was so original in his approach. I admired him greatly for never letting the music business get in the way of playing guitar exactly the way he wanted to. Fame be damned. Which of course made him even more famous because he had unlimited room for creativity and innovation. The ultimate master of the whammy bar, which I am a big fan of. Will be greatly missed but like so many musicians dying we can only be thankful for all the great recordings they left behind.
Jeff is a tier 2 guitarist, a genius, but second tier. The first tier is for guitarists who thought of music instead of making the whole band be just a coadjuvant. Jimi and Zappa thought of music, they're tier 1 geniuses. Listen closely to Jeff and you'll realize that he's the only one really playing on the band.

Imagine you can hold your own in a class band as a bassist. You have someone who can feature the band as a guitarist.
