I need to know exactly how something works before i can understand whats wrong with it when it breaks. I love your explanations. My discovery 3 thanks you 😁👍
That design is genius for interlock of safe operation and set up, German Engineers would be impressed with that Ford design! Love your explanations Christian keep the videos coming
Hilariously, unplugging / plugging switch back in cleared my long running HDC / transmission / lowered suspension / limp mode error. Initially replaced blown brake light globes x2, which momentarily resolved the error (~24 hours), then re-appeared with extra vengeance "park brake" fault. Not sure (yet) if switch actually faulty (genuine, only 4 years old), or just needed some encouragement. Maybe prudent to hold spare onboard in case.
Makes me feel better knowing I am not on my own pulling things apart. I replaced the headlight leveling motors and couldn't resist pulling apart to see how it worked. Making an interesting video about that is a skill set I do not have. Thanks for posting
Yet again another very interesting topic by Christian. A really good idea by the way, the extension for the diagnostics port. I will be doing this to mine. The existing port is in such an awkward place to get too. Nice to see Vera keeping fit & well.
Probably worth carrying this switch with you in the car. It has huge implications if it fails and it is so easy to replace. I am impressed that the switch is designed to compensate for manufacturing variations and for incorrect installation.
. . . . . and with a cameo appearance . . . Vera !!!!. Very interesting thanks Christian, . . . about Heuneberg !!, oh !, and the brake switch was interesting too !!!! :-)). Cheers and stay safe.
Thanks for this very useful video. This is the same switch as in the 2010-2019 Jaguar XJ. Mine went faulty and started leaving the brake lights on while driving on Dutch motorways: this did not please other drivers at all! But it was only €300 for the Jaguar dealership in Utrecht to replace it. 😢
Very informative video once again, ive been resarching and that little switch can cause a world off issues like abs air bag light traction control so reassuring knowing its such a simple fix. and quite complex in its design,
Hi Christian, A complicated video? Ha ha, yes a little, but fun to watch. The brake pedal switched of the D3's and D4's eventually become a a problem to all users. As you advise, very easy to replace, but JLR prices are insane for what is, a Ford switch. Purchasing the same item from Ford as opposed to JLR benefits the purchaser because of the significant difference in cost. They use the same switch in the Ford Focus. I've learnt to always keep a spare in the boot of the car. Once again, a great video and "educational" as well.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤓🤓🤓🤓
I rest my case (previous comment on last video) so now I am waiting for you to strip the gear box down 😂 I recon you will soon be a fully fledged Land Rover man as we all have to strip our cars down to the last bolt at least once in our lifetime
Hi Christian, that was a great instructional video, I just ordered that very same part from Land Rover, and will be installing it next week. Thank you so much! :)
Christian, here's an English word that you may not know, but you should: "esoteric". It means "intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest". I'll use it in a sentence: Even though this video is extremely esoteric, it's still fun to watch. But I wish Vera took a picture of the wild boar blood puddle. That would have been less esoteric.
I am not sure about LR stability system jet, but on BMW brake light switch also measures the speed of how quickly you press the bralke pedal. And if it quicker than set in ECU it means you are in emergency situation and activates brake assist mode - it runs ABS pump to rise and keep pressure in brake system
My fingers have nearly healed after replacing the fuel/water sensor so I am looking at another finger torture project such as replacing the EGR valve - have you looked at this challenge and if so can you guarantee my fingers will hurt. Great videos and thanks for posting them.
We did the EGR Valves as soon as we got the car in 2016. But since so many viewers are asking, we are considering doing a video about them. Maybe Fabian's Disco needs new EGR Valves 🤔. 👍😃🙋♀️ Vera
"Making one component complicated allows you to make another component cheap" yep, thats Land Rover, good switch, rest of the car cheap . Having said that, when I worked for Peugeot they made a massive fuss about how much the then new 605 had cost to develop, it turned out that Mercedes spent the same developing the S class back axle ..... Keep up the great vids.
Hilarious!!! 😂😂😂love it and very informative. Unfortunately, when I went to change the bulb, I have this large piece of Styrofoam stuck in there, which is immovable and I can’t access the brake light switch myself. 😮 I haven’t been able to figure out how to get that out to access the brake light switch. 🤷♀️
Another great video, you must be quite an anomaly in Germany, owning a Land Rover and having such a great sense of humour, you must have some English blood in your ancestry 😀 but I am British and drive a Benz so I guess it works both ways 😄 It does seem overly complicated, most likely designed by a German Engineer 🤫 Joking apart, another great video, look forward to them even though I don't have a Land-rover
If you own a Land Rover for a few years you get good at changing these. They fail pretty regularly and start throwing up loads of random warning lights.
If you are having problems reinstalling, or you can not shift your auto transmission from park (first try only) into drive then receive warning messages, the switch is not installed correctly. For whatever reason I could not seat it correctly when accessing it like shown in this video (I tried over and over). I had to remove the lower panel and get my hand in that way to seat it, went in first try. I managed to make something so simple more complicated.
being a large man i struggled to get under there when i did mine ... ended up taking the seat out lol and the auto one adjusts the fuel down when breaking
Trust me manufacturers never do anything that doesn't benefit themselves first. This is simply a self-compensation brake pedal switch, rather than relying on good manufacturing tolerances and or processes they made this self-compensation switch to be install during manufacturing to be faster and more profitable.
Hi christen I think you do a very good job on your discovery I have watched all your videos . I look forward to seeing you and the better half the wife I mean lol on the next one from the UK ...
My LR4 had the switch plunger travel set up to like 1mm before the brake lights were triggered,. I tried to get the LR Dealership to adjust the plunger travel to be just a little longer and I was told it could not be done. They suggested that the entire switch be replaced but with a caveat that the new switch was not guaranteed to have different plunger travel distance. I declined...
I had the fault saying my brake light switch was inoperable along with the usual warning lights . Replaced brake light as suggested and no difference. Car drives fine for 5 minutes then all the faults come back.
Will a bad brake light switch keep you from putting car in gear I just replaced it while ago now now won't go in gear now transmission fault never thought this will keep car stuck in park
@@Vera_and_Christian I read that not being able to shift in gear can be a bad light switch, I let you know when I replace it again, I will admit lr3 is very sensitive Land rover as I am sure they all are , but the transmission is very finicky if service not performed correctly, I am having north texas British install a remanufactured transmission, due to the programming the solenoids in transmission I am very mechanical minded but this transmission out of my experience, vera a very luck and any one else in Germany who has a manual transmission non are here in usa , if transmission not service correctly it will do all kinds of codes , when I first got my lr3 it had codes in transmission saying 5 and 6 gear incorrect ratios, I changed everything new transmission fluid , metal pan new filter new solenoids ran good then ran like 💩 if I continued to drive it over a certain speed it say will not let me drive it at all I quess limp mode , I don't have the time to continued diagnose problems, yes I know shop brake the bank but there no LR TIME near me so shop off it gose it will be very expensive, I keep you posted on my lr3

FORD has a wonderful engineering office in Cologne - It was surely designed there.
