Good work on a meticulous job. The underbody coating looks great. I’m really looking forward to that video. I told my wife I’d have to tell you guys about our breakfast this morning of biscuits, pork sausages, and some Darbo Lingonberry Sauce. Delicious!
Hello James, that sounds delicious indeed. There will be an other video in between before the paint job video. Our repair-style videos are very time consuming to edit. We use many 2 second sceens cut out of hours of footage in these videos. This is why we sometimes post a simple "just talk video" in between.
Oh Vera and Christian. I love this and everything you do. So much fun and inspiration and entertainment. Dus ist zir goot! Very poor 4th form German language study. Clearly still with me 55 years later!!! Good on ya mate from Australia.
Christian & Vera - you seem absolutely fearless in terms of the servicing and repairs you take on, I'm in awe of the quality of work you do. Whenever you decide to sell your D3 you have great proof that you vehicle is very well looked after. And you are such fun to watch ... and I always learn something new.
Had to be recovered on a truck yesterday. The park brake was stuck on making a horrible noise, so I used the emergency release which didn’t release the brake and locked the gearbox in park 🤦. Got it home and stripped down, cables cut to release the park brake, park brake unit remove ( I used you video to follow, which was great. Mine has Adblue so a little extra work to remove the tank) I’ve opened the electric motor and gearbox to expect the little plastic cogs to be stripped and everything is OK??? Not sure what has caused it, so a full rear brake rebuild and new cogs on order. Your video was excellent 👍
That suck,s , our’s was jammed once too, offroad in the Alps. But we could release it. We did the rebuild then in the following winter. When you watch that video, you see that the gears itself did not look damaged or worn out. But definitely be rather safe than sorry. 👍🙋♀️Vera
That was a journey, thankfully we don't have salted roads here just unforgiving heat. especially liked the "when I have a heart" attack comment at the end. I will have to get my land rover suffering wife to do a brake test too. :)
This is my project for next week. Got my parts from LR Centre in England. Shipping was great as it only took 7 days to get to me here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I have the LR3 HSE with the V8, been good to me so far. Thanks for sharing the info.
Hello Zan, have that 3/8 hex socket ready and a few new M8 x 16 bolts. Spray them with penetrant the night before. Each cable has two M8 bolts and then there are the four bracket bolts in the back, holding the module. Also spray the heat shield nuts. Use a hammer and socket and hit them once prior opening them. Also use a inch socket if they spin through. We love Vancouver island. We took our Jeep Cherokee there about 20 jears ago. The landscape is endless. Victoria is a nice city with friendly people. Good memories.
Hello John, trust me, it was bad this time. Going through the video footage was almost as stressful as doing the repair itself. She had to put up with a lot! The overall downtime was from the 21st to the 27th of December.
Great video, well explained, great tutorial, with a lot of humor, loved it again! We already knew Vera is much better rhan an automatic ratched, she even reminds you of your ry wraps and hands you the torque wrench with the right settings, isn’t she the best right hand available. You must have known what you’ve married,. Love you both. Stay safe
Love your video's Guys! You certainly follow the mantra of look after your Landrover and she will look after you. Such a misconception about these vehicles unfortunately, service them the way you do they will last a lifetime..well done!
The reason for the bad reputation is that people do not expect the maintenance cost of a high end vehicle. The cars are cheap and people think they are cheap to maintain too. In reality, these are 60+ t Euro vehicles and they are more expensive to maintain - unless you DIY them. We love them and we will buy an other one in 2021. Thanks!!!
That, right there, is the main reason I can't face the idea of trading in my D2 for a D3. To have half a chance of doing these kind of jobs easily, you need a D3 that's always been looked-after, and has no rusty nuts and bolts... which you can't rely on when you buy a 10 year old vehicle. Oh, how I wish JLR had designed the D3 as an evolution of the D2, perhaps based on a Defender 110 chassis. Much respect for taking these jobs on, rather than handing it over to a specialist.
Thanks. Such vehicles in Germany are like new after 10 years. There is hardly no salt and the roads have no bumps. They are dealer-maintained too up to 150t km. Then they are cheap to buy because they are expensive to drive for non-DIY folks.
Another great informative video. I agree, use your EPB all the time. My 2005 D3 is now at 200600 km and the module is still original. Although it's an auto, I still use the parking brake every time. I just had it serviced (shoes stripped cleaned and readjusted according to Bodsy's brake bible) in 2019 after it started making horrid noises, and all is well. Looking forward to your underbody corrosion video. Cheers!
Hello Alex, thanks. Next few videos will be for example: 5 thinks we do not like about our Discovery Underbody corrossion repair Things you may not know about your drive shaft Bad thing is, that I have to work now again. Vacation is over.
Another awesome video thanks, same unit as BMW. As you probably now know, you can remove EPB only, by unclipping Bowden cables. Only emergency release cable has to come off with unit.
Christian, your work ethic is admirable and impressive. I've learnt a lot from your informative videos, your unique little tricks and adaptations. It really is ' Voorsprung dich technic' as they say at Audi.
Greetings from Bulgaria! I am looking for Discovery 3 for my next car. Really helpful videos and lot of fun. If you decide to sell it, I will come to Germany 😊
Good job you two. This video once again makes me wish I have a pit in my garage or some sort of lift! I cannot imagine how unpleasant this sort of job would be without that. Here's an idea for a video series: Purchase a distressed Discovery 3 and restore it for Vera to drive. P.S. - You have a beautiful home.
Hello Allen, thank you. We plan to buy an other vehicle in 2021 but there are a few obstacles. First I have to fix the transmission of the Challenger and then sell it. It will be like selling a fridge in the arctic. Once done, we will actually buy a Range Rover Sport. It is the same platform as the Discovery 3 but a bit more sporty. Its cheaper and better available in Germany. It also comes with a diesel V8. This is what our channel will bring in 2021. You know now more than anybody else.
the real problem is being able to disassemble it without the hole and without the lift available I have to do it on my 2012 range rover but going under an almost 3 ton car with stands I don't trust it very much thanks for your videos it's nice to share
We only have the lift for 8 months now. And, when the RTT is on, we couldn't even get into the Garage. We have certainly done our fair share of repaires, more than enough, on the ground on jack stands. It is absolutely doable. Get yourself some good jack stands. 👍🙋♀️Vera
Great vidoes, I love them, I have today done my park brake shoes on a LR3, and i noticed there are some notches on the splash plate where the adjusters are. :)
Another fun and informative video, I have adjusted a couple of times and figure one day I may need to fix it if the gears strip. On a different note, I see you have some light surface rust on the chassis, I do regular off road beach camping but on return to dry land I was thoroughly Then spray inox mx4, it's a lanolin based product. 2007 lr 3 and not a hint of surface rust
Hello Peter, I have done some rost protection but not in all areas. I wish i would have done more. At least I should have kepot it clean but did not. We ve done not some rost removal which will be in one of the next videos.
Really enjoyed seeing the removal of EPB module. I’ve previously serviced the drum components and that stopped the screech for me, but still get the odd small screech here and there, think I might have a go at the gear set!
@@Vera_and_Christian Have fun! I just watched the diff pinion seal video and it was very good! (Christian needs to say please and Thankyou to you more 😝)
The main thing you did wrong was your supposed do the first side with Vera watching then tell her "Its your turn to do the other side now you've seen how its done" and then video Vera trying to do it herself. Great videos, I've just found your channel and I'm bing watching them all.
Another job that I will be taking the lr3 in for. Way too much work. I did my old defender but won't be doing this. Great job on the frame cleaning and painting
I’ve got an interesting video idea I’m just starting out in camping and would like to see a video on camping gear and what stuff you use to keep comfortable ie cooking heating and also things to entertain kids lol
I'm really enjoying your channel, the interaction as a couple is sometimes very amusing and I'm wondering if speaking inot in your native language cushions some of the blows. Vera is amazing and so supportive of the work, just by being there even, my wife would be nowhere near the garage unless she needs something from the freezer.
I own a disco3 XS, saw this video, decided a parking brake is not that vital. ;) But all jokes aside, love the videos! But still terrified to do this on my own with limited tools/working space.
😅 yeah we got lucky when we bought this house, but we have been fixing cars 20 years without a pit, it's doable. And the downside, you can fall into the pit (Christian did, not me 😅)🙋♀️Vera
Great video! Very useful for Disco 3 owners! Thanks! At the end, did you only brake by engaging the EPB on the move? Did you do this to test that everything is working well? Doesn't that put a lot of strain on the EPB module? Keep up the good work!
The TÜV inspector also used the electric hand brake this way. He had an electronic diagnostic tool which measured the vehicle response. The the manual describes the hand brake switch as a emergency brake as well. I am not sure if the electric brake actuator is actually used when doing this while driving... Somethin I need to look into.
I love your the way you guys work together. I am always in the garage but my wife only ever comes in with the tea. just one point could you have done the job without taking the cables out?
For Christian, that was not an option. You have to open the EPB Box then underneath the car and dirt/dust or debris can enter this delicate system. So you may can, but we would never do it. 🙋♀️ Vera
Just wondering if you can remember how long it took to get get it out and back in, I would imagine the gear renovation didn't take long but getting it out and back in must have taken ages. Love your videos and thanks a million for all your help and information 😁👍🍻🍻
That depends on the corrosion degree of your Disco. If we had a video like ours when we did it the first time, it would have been much faster. But we also film, which adds at least twice the time it would take normally. But, who cares how long it takes if it takes 2 or 4 hours. As long as it saves you a couple of thousand € from the dealer or independent workshops. They do not do that for little money. 👍👌🙋♀️
Hi Christian and Vera, I have used your videos on several occasions to help me maintain my 08 LR3, thank you very much. I am now working on the EPB. What grease would you recommend for the gears on the EPB please? I can see a tube in the video but not the writing. Thanks Chris
What kind of grease are you using to lubricate the sliding parts and gears please Christian? It looks like the tube say's assembly grease. Thank you for your awesome videos, you guys are fantastic.
My LR4 area doesn't look like this. Theres a bigger solid plate above spare, ac lines and a large canister all behind the module prohibiting access to module. I think the only way mine can come out is through right rear wheel well but the I can not get lines out of the metal brackets, they are not forked like lr3, they are on a hole and grommet with difficult access
Check my video from a few weeks ago fixing various things on a later brown LR3. I removed the PB with this plate. Was very difficult but worked. It was at the end of the video. Christian
Fantastic comedy act with some fun and useful tips thrown in 👍🏻 A bigger pit would be useful to 🤣 You both do make this look simple and understandable 😀 If people maintained their vehicles better they wouldn’t have half the issues. If you put a vehicle in a shop no way they’d pay the attention to detail as you two do 🤣 I spent a lot of time drive lorries in Germany 🇩🇪 to the Siemens factoring Erlangen. Oh did I enjoy a stein of beer 🍺 and bratwurst 🌭 yumm yum 😋 Cheers Stevie 😎🏴
Don't put into actual words that we need a bigger pit😅, knowing Christian, he's waiting for an excuse to tear down our Garage and build a bigger shop 😂💪👍🙋♀️ Vera
Hi guys. I have a memory of Christian saying something about not using the EPB auto release. Did I imagine this? I am not sure which video he said this but I am sure he was reading from the manual. I've just watched this video through and didn't hear anything. Does anyone remember what was said? Thanks and thank you as always for the content!
Christian, the e-brake and brakes in general have. been the greatest annoyance and expense with our LR. I wish you had gone slower and with more light in the critical final assembly steps. Very glad to view your video nevertheless. With the 30K I do each year, with salt from road...it should be announced loud and clear to open the brake system up to clean and lube before parking for the winter rest...or in spring if you do run through winter... You are fortunate to have a well configured garage!...and moderate winters to work in. PS - you didn’t do the e-brake series of secret switch moves and 10 stop “setting” of the e-pads!...or did I miss that ...?
Question: Does rope(cable) is dry and in good condition? My point is that in winter, if cable(rope) is wet in the casing, it will freeze and parking stop will not work.
If you take care of your EPB and service it regularly, you have no problems. Like with everything Land Rover related. We live here in Europe in moderate, wet, and cold climate and the EPB works just fine. It is a Land Rover after all and build to last. But, you have to do your maintanece. So if something cracks, you have to replace it. 🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Thanks, the wires I was using to test the EPB motor were to light. I made a couple out of house electrical cable I had. motor works fine. 😊
Superb video yet again. Way beyond my capabilities but good to know what's involved. Thank you. Just a quick question.. How did you do the emergency stop at the end of the video?
I'm doing this at the moment on my Disco 4 I havent got the room above the spare wheel from behind as you do. The hole is a lot smaller I can only get 1 arm in. Is your disc 3 slightly different chassis/spare wheel locater than mine?
Greeetings from the uk. Love your videos you two work so well together. Think if I worked with my wife one of us would end up buried in the pit. Under body looks great.

👍😀🙋♀️ Vera
Awesome job! Great video, very cool.
Thanks.
I own a disco3 XS, saw this video, decided a parking brake is not that vital. ;) But all jokes aside, love the videos! But still terrified to do this on my own with limited tools/working space.
Hope your car is not badly corroded. That makes it much harder. 😬 Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian Italian import, so pretty much 0 rust (for now) thanks for the replay Christian :)
You guys are a great team. But I think I may just remove the fuse and never use it 😂.
Great informative video, keep up the good work.
Excellent video thanks.
Thank you Doug.
i dont have a pit dug in my drive way, so i guess i'll have to lift my wifes D3 6 foot in the air! ;)
Great job you pair. Thank you for sharing!
😅 yeah we got lucky when we bought this house, but we have been fixing cars 20 years without a pit, it's doable. And the downside, you can fall into the pit (Christian did, not me 😅)🙋♀️Vera
Brilliant video, very funny and informative!
Thanks. Repair was not entirely funny according to Vera 😂
@@Vera_and_Christian very interesting! thanks!
🙋♀️ Vera
Hi is there a calibration / reset procedure you have to do when everythink is back together
excellent video.
Hi Christian and Vera, I have used your videos on several occasions to help me maintain my 08 LR3, thank you very much. I am now working on the EPB. What grease would you recommend for the gears on the EPB please? I can see a tube in the video but not the writing. Thanks Chris
Vera, "IT'S NEVER YOUR FAULT"
Mind you, fab video and great content.
Hello Darran, thanks. No taking side here please. Lol.
Thanks, we appreciate positive feedback a lot. Makes it worth while doing videos.
👍🏻👍🏻
I enjoy every video, you guys make it fun.
One minute everything is Vera's fault, the next "it is better than an automatic ratchet" 17:50 ☺
What paint did you use for the paint job, it looks so good now. (would you consider doing a video on how to do that, clean up the rust and paint?)
We have a video about how we undercoated our Disco ua-cam.com/video/Kbl6CD3BGN4/v-deo.html 🙋♀️ Vera
What kind of grease are you using to lubricate the sliding parts and gears please Christian? It looks like the tube say's assembly grease. Thank you for your awesome videos, you guys are fantastic.
Vera, you still fit your twenty years old trousers? Well done girl, impressive. 😉
😅👍 Thanks🙋♀️Vera
My LR4 area doesn't look like this. Theres a bigger solid plate above spare, ac lines and a large canister all behind the module prohibiting access to module. I think the only way mine can come out is through right rear wheel well but the I can not get lines out of the metal brackets, they are not forked like lr3, they are on a hole and grommet with difficult access
Check my video from a few weeks ago fixing various things on a later brown LR3. I removed the PB with this plate. Was very difficult but worked. It was at the end of the video. Christian
Why did you have to drill out the holes of the mounting screws ?
Oh my goodness what a great paint job.
There was a risk of breaking the plastic taps off because the bolts were so corroded. 🙋♀️ Vera
That was fun, thank goodness my car doesn't have an electric handbrake. 👍
Thanks. We thought about printing a T-shirt. We survived the LR3 hand brake repair.
Question:
Does rope(cable) is dry and in good condition? My point is that in winter, if cable(rope) is wet in the casing, it will freeze and parking stop will not work.
If you take care of your EPB and service it regularly, you have no problems. Like with everything Land Rover related. We live here in Europe in moderate, wet, and cold climate and the EPB works just fine. It is a Land Rover after all and build to last. But, you have to do your maintanece. So if something cracks, you have to replace it. 🙋♀️Vera
It was perfect...appreciate.
In the event of a breakdown/Fault, is there a procedure or emergency brake to prevent the vehicle rolling away once parked ? Thanks
Yes, put it into gear and use a wedge when parked steep, additionally. 👍🙋♀️
very informative thank you
Thanks 😃🙋♀️ Vera
Greetings, marvellous to watch. What size amp leads are you test running the EPB motor with. Thanks in advance
I am not quite sure. I own a couple of test leads and alligator clamps from Amazon. Not the very cheap ones. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian Thanks, the wires I was using to test the EPB motor were to light. I made a couple out of house electrical cable I had. motor works fine. 😊
In that 'emergency' brake test did you press the handbrake switch while the car was moving?
When you install new shoes for the EPB, you need to do a bedding in procedure. Check our Brake Playlist. 🙋♀️
Superb video yet again. Way beyond my capabilities but good to know what's involved. Thank you. Just a quick question.. How did you do the emergency stop at the end of the video?
You pull on the E - Brake Button. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian thanks Vera. I probably won't be trying it out soon 😂😂
Have you ever heard of an epb coming on gradually by itself while at highway speeds?
I'm doing this at the moment on my Disco 4 I havent got the room above the spare wheel from behind as you do. The hole is a lot smaller I can only get 1 arm in. Is your disc 3 slightly different chassis/spare wheel locater than mine?
I don’t know, sorry. Christian
