    All you guys complaining about it need to go out and drive one, it's an amazing experience. My mom bought one about 7 months back, and I feel lucky to be able to drive such a vehicle. The power is just amazing..

    @TeamAlecAmerica I went to buy one, but when I started to look at the engineering of it and found it to be a real non-maintainable vehicle for the owner ... if you love to spend 100 plus an hour to the ford shop quite regularly, this is for you.
    As for towing, make sure you have great towing insurance and a warranty that goes beyond the years your going to own it.
    From a scale from 1-10 ... it's a 1 for the person who tows, 4 wheels, or maintains their own vehicle.

    It was a team effort when they created TR for Land Rover and Ford even said that TR would eventually find its way into other products as well like the Ford Explorer. Both TR systems even use the same icons.

    Yes, there is a knob to select the AWD behavior depending on the terrain you´re going.

    @MrColdStove Yup, currently reading 26.9mpg. Cost about $60-$70 to fill it, depending on prices that week.

    To all the people that think Ford should have installed a V8 in a heavy new BOF SUV apparently have not noticed what is happening to gas prices right now. Those Jeeps and Dodges with HEMI's will sit on the lots rotting. A new Explorer can save you close to a $1,000 a year in fuel costs (15,000 miles a year) when gas hits $4.00 a gallon compared to those V8 powered Chrysler products. The old Explorer just wasn't selling anymore and even if they had updated it sales would have remained low.

  • @ben5017

    It is a car, it cannot tow crap, has a unibody ... it is anything but durable if you use it in any extreme circumstance!
    This SUV is prefect for Grandma who has a lot of money for repairs and will never open the hood!

  • @SeanJHB

    All - Surely buying a car or suv or crossover is all about personal choice?
    Its been said many times that this Ford is not a rock climber nor is it intended for heavy duty towing. Its been positioned as an occasional off roader with some towing capacity - that being said if this car isnt what you want, go buy something else?
    To me its a modern vehicle with good high tech interior - I need something to get me up the mountain at the weekends, that will carry my gear and keep my family safe -

    This will continue to be a hit for Ford....throw all the stones and arrows you want ppl...Ford is displaying something called VISION here....they saw that the cross-over market was and IS still growing while the truck based SUV market is shrinking. In terms of refinement (ride quality, comfort, quietness, and handling) I bet this new Explorer blows away the old versions....Ford nailed it here.

  • @BrandonBVA

    "Nobody who owns a Ford Explorer right now takes it rock crawling"
    You all need to visit the ExplorerForum website. I take my Explorer rock crawling quite often, and so do a couple thousand other people. Ford doesn't know crap about the capabilities of an Explorer because they never really cared to come and check us out more than once when they sent the new Sport Trac out.

  • @ecoRfan
    @ecoRfan 13 років тому

    Ford should sell a version of the Explorer with the 3.5L Eco-boost V6 with 355-365 HP. Now THAT would be a nice ride... and it could probably tow well too. The one thing I don't care for with this vehicle is My Ford Touch, but that's about it.

  • @Mike060504
    @Mike060504 13 років тому

    It's an SUV not a crossover. Ford has made that very clear.

  • @FrostedCold

    @igotwhips not at all. The Explorer is still a very capable off-roader. Both Motortrend and Autoblog liked it more than the Cherokee in their First Drive publications.

    @icareyoushouldtoo, lol true. But if ure really worried about passenger space, get a Flex or Expedition. Plus ford did'nt have to make it a crossover to throw in a 3rd row.

  • @cougarlover1
    @cougarlover1 13 років тому

    @unidad355 Ford introduced the new Explorer in hopes of sparking new sales based off the improved gas mileage capability of the new model. It still has good enough off-roading capability for the basics and gets much better gas mileage compared to the competition you listed. 4Runners are gas-guzzling V8's. Grand Cherokees are notorious, as are all Jeeps for being hard at the gas pumps. I myself own a Jeep Liberty in which i am lucky to get 19 MPG on the interstate. great job Ford.

    maybe in the US no one goes off road but here in Saudi Arabia (witch is a desert basically) 80% of people go off road with anything from a corolla to a land cruiser and the old explorer did very good in the sand but i'm not so sure about this one...

    This is a pretty respectable rig but I still love my AWD V8 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. Yeah it definitely drives like a truck but I kind of like that about it. And I can't get enough of the sound of that V8 under the hood. I can respect he new Explorer but I'll be sticking with the traditional body-on-frame V8 powered Explorers from yesteryear. I'm just weird like that.

  • @jaffacake1578

    False. The Ford Focus and Ford Explorer are both selling extremely well. The Focus is the best selling car in Britain for many years in a row. Same with the Fiesta.

  • @RippingGloryCustoms
    @RippingGloryCustoms 13 років тому

    Not that the new explorer looks bad, I actually like it. But in my own opinion the explorer should have stayed the same, and they should have named this the ford edge XL or something of that sort, because alot of people like the tradition of the explorers, yes they changed over the years but you were always able to tell it was an explorer. Now you can't unless you know about the redesign.

    @limeimac97776 I know. So is the Yukon, Navigator, Expedition, Durango, 4-Runner, Borrego, Pathfinder, Escalade, Range Rover, and all BMW and Mercedes SUV's. Ther are others as well that are still RWD, I just can't think of all of them now. My point is that Ford already has 3 wrong-wheel-drive crossovers, the Edge, Flex, and Escape. Why do they need another? The Explorer could have easily been improved and updated without resorting to wrong-wheel-drive. Ford has dropped the ball big time.

    @kendrickevans301 Until the Firestone Tire fiasco. Also look at all automaker trends, most are breaking away from the truck based SUV. and going to a crossover. and the sales had drastically dropped going from 137,817 to a mere 52,190 in just a matter of time between 2007-2009.

    @druddock The Subie system is nice. It's rear-biased, full-time AWD. Unlike the Flexplorer which is a sideways engine bastard with FWD 99% of the time until the rear axle eventually engages. There's no low range on the Flexplorer either. It's not a true 4x4, I don't car what anyone thinks. It's a sissymobile Taurus station wagon.

  • @tjhaywood100
    @tjhaywood100 13 років тому

    @yamajammer76 I don't know where they're selling. I have yet to see one on the road or at a local dealership. And I don't need a Raptor. I have a family. I need an SUV, not a crossover. If it's got a sideways engine driving the front wheels, I don't need it.

    The best thing is that the ford corporation has engineered away your ability to change your transmission fluid / add or change by means of removing their fill tube with the check valve pumping location on the bottom. If your leaking on the road, forget adding, your going to be broke down.
    Next, the great thing is the AWD which takes your economy down 20% over a traditional Part time 4wd that runs rear wheel drive in 2wd mode. This vehicle will cost 100+ and hour for it's repairs!

    @tjhaywood100 Call it what you will, but it will go through what 95% of the explorer market wants, so what is the problem? The terrain management is a nice complex system that when set to proper features will work with the trans axle, limited slip differential, as well as shift points. Seems like to don't like unibody, and why?

    The only real American suvs left is the Suburban, Tahoe, Expedition, Grand Cherokee, and the Durango. The rest are just front wheel drive crossover garbage. leadnsteel you are right, they started to suck then, but at least they were still body on frame, rwd, and had a v8 option.

    @Kelter2 Very true. This thing is not worthy of the Explorer name. At least the Grand Cherokee is still RWD with a real 4x4 drivetrain with a low-range transfer case and the option of a V-8 engine. Ford is killing itself with this imitation SUV.

  • @tjhaywood100
    @tjhaywood100 13 років тому

    Well, at least Jeep, Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota still make real REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE, V-8 powered SUV's for the men out there who still buy SUV's. Unfortunately, I can't afford any of them. But I love my 16 year old 4x4 Exploder! And I certainly wouldn't trade it for this new wrong-wheel-drive sissymobile. The Explorer is dead. And after the initial "new" wears off the Flexplorer, it'll die a horrible death too. Then the Durango and Grand Ckerokee will be kings of the SUV hill!! Go team RWD!!!

  • @creamyfilling102
    @creamyfilling102 13 років тому

    if you want a more car like driving experience, then buy a car. leave some smaller SUV's for the people that still wanna drive them. why can't you put the advanced new engine in a unibody design and still have it be an actual SUV?

    Such a sad sad day for us true Ford Fans. i have always been a Ford guy, worked for Ford and my dad still sells them. I was so happy the way Ford had operated and made it though on its own without government help. They built great american cars people wanted and had great quality which made them solid and on top. Now though it looks like someone dropped the ball. This thing is hideous and is a waste of the explorer name.Ford sold great as it looked american but now they have gone euro sad.

    @tjhaywood100 You do realize that the new Explorer has a 14 day supply right now. That is one of the lowest in the industry so either Ford is only building 10 a day or the things are selling like hot cakes. If you want a real factory spec. off-roader get a 2011 F-150 Raptor. The Raptor will make your little Grand Cherokee look sad when the going gets tough on a baja course. You want Ford to build a niche vehicle for a mass market category and you can't make money doing that.

    @unicyclerider15 It is not a "little SUV" as you call it. You should really do more research. Jeep is on a unibody as well, except once it starts braking every over turn of the key, you will rethink your choice. Chrysler is dead and has been dead for many years. Reason the wrangler is ALWAYS the worst "compact suv" in the reliability category as well as the entire Chrysler line up. Good luck with that.
