  • During a wide open tuna bite I used surface irons and clear poppers to catch some of these aggressive school-sized yellowfin. The setup I used was a Calstar GG-90J paired with a Penn Fathom 25N star drag filled. Fishing aboard The Pegasus out of Fisherman's Landing, San Diego California.

When I have a shorter rod, all the time. With a 9ft jigstick I get better action if I work it with my reel

    Are you using 60# mono?

40lb mono. Allows my jig to swim better. On the popper I’ve got a short piece of 80lb fluoro as a bite leader
