    These videos are fantastic and I really wish I'd found them before our trip to La Jolla last weekend. We balked at the high tide at the Marine Room and didn't get our line-up right when we tried the canyon from Vallecitos, so we only saw sand and algae bloom. But diving was a secondary objective for our trip and we'll be back again, with these videos for guidance!

    Thanks! I saw a few people coming out of that area with dive gears and always wondered how it looks like underwater.

      And if you head a lot farther out it gets pretty deep but there's a lot more life in this area.

    Nice video. I was just there today snorkeling a little and saw some sharks. I wish SD had more areas like this. There are some good rocks off Bird Rock / Marine street too but you have to deal with the surfers on the break.

      I've snorkeled Windnsea and Marine street a couple of times and they're great but the Marine Room is so much more accessible. Children's pool can be nice too and it can be fun to see the seals. Depends on the season though.
      Come to the 3r's event put on by The San Diego Council of Divers on Saturday Sept 11th at 9AM to learn about diving/swimming at the Children's Pool. Check out the event on Meetup dot com for the info. They have an entire summer series where they take you to difference spots around San Diego and teach how to read the Rips and how to navigate the rocks. Sept 11th is the last event of this season. Make sure to bring a full snorkeling gear.

    I noticed that about the kelp bass too over in Catalina. They seem mesmerized by fingers lol

      One of my favorites when conditions are favorable. Shallow so there's lots of light down there and easy entry when surf is calm.

    Can you do this with just snorkel gear?

    • @SDScuba
      @SDScuba  3 роки тому

      Yes! Its actually more popular as a snorkeling spot. Even some divers will opt to snorkel it instead of diving because of how shallow it is. Now's a GREAT time to go because the Leopard sharks are out too. They're usually in the sand area in front of La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

      @@SDScuba yeah I actually went there a few times last week because of ur vid. Thanks for sharing this stuff. Also me and mr brother went kind of far out in front of the caves and saw a large amount of soup fin sharks. This happened only once tho so I was wondering if u knew anything about that.

    Just went freediving there. Imo it wasn't as impressive as the LA Jolla cove. Maybe that's because I was free diving with limited time under water, but the LA Jolla cove has way more life and seals and sea lions. Didn't see any sharks. I think I swam maye mile or more? I don't know. I didn't swallow much sea water, but still had bad nausea at the end.
    I'd advise anyone who is not an experienced swimmer in open water conditions to just go in at the LA Jolla cove. It's more interesting Over there anyway.

      @@SDScuba this was my first time. At 5 pm when I went it, it was pretty calm. At 6:30 or so when I got out the waves were hitting the hotel wall, but not too bad

    • @SDScuba
      @SDScuba  Рік тому +2

      Ya, it can be hit and miss. I agree that the cove has the sea lions and much the of the same life--plus lifeguards. I think I like this dive on scuba because its shallow so you have more light and better colors. Also really nice when the leopard sharks are around.......but not all days are nice at the Marine Room, some are rough and not at all fun.
