Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.

I was born and raised in Philly. I lived at G and Allegheny for many years and i witnessed this first hand. I am ashamed to admit that i too was addicted to heroin just like you see in this and many of his videos. I was never one of these people nodding on the street but i could have been. It wouldn't have taken much to go down the path that so many of these people go down. I hated who i was and i didn't blame anyone but myself for what i had become. One of the main factors in getting clean is witnessing the desolation, the desperation, and the hell that is Kensington. You walkdown the street and literally see zombies. These people are barely alive and they have been taken over by an addiction that is all consuming and evil. Just because i got clean does not mean i am any better than any of these people and neither are you. Never say that "it would never be me" because i said that and i ended up being a junkie for over 10 years.

God bless bro 🙏 congrats on your sobriety. I just lost a friend who is a father of 3, he started his own roofing business, kid was a beast. He started out using oxy 30's to help get through the day (he was pushing 40 and doing that job obviously takes a toll on your body, he had the usual construction back pain, joint pains, etc) and eventually started using fentanyl since in his state, that was the only thing available, and he got kicked out of his own house by his wife until he got clean. Well he tried his hardest... and I honestly thought he kicked the habit finally. Until I got a call from his hysterical sister.... he was found dead in his work truck from an OD. So many good people get taken away by this evil shit its absolutely insane. But anyway, again, congrats bro keep up the good work! 👍

Philadelphia really has no excuse for this. You hear people argue that West Virginia and Kentucky has a higher rate of drug users/ rates/ overdoses per capita etc. West Virginia has no industrial capacity left along with Kentucky. Most from the left want to put coal out of business!! Philadelphia has 13 Fortune 500 companies, in 2016 44 million visitors and the region generated about 500 billion 2019. The rust belt has excuses, Philadelphia does not. Just like Chicago and LA there is no reason whatsoever this should happen. These cities should be the best we have not some of the worst!!

The only time I would be bothered by it is if I was attacked by one of them. However, it wouldn’t deter me from accepting a great job. I would just be very careful. I would think it’s more dangerous in the evening. Either way, I would take a job down there if it really good. Have to earn a living. Can’t turn down a great job just because of a few drug addicts.

I think its not only drug dealers that are responsible for that mess, but pharmaceutical companies also, I watched a UA-cam video on one guy that had everything, he was married, had children and had a good job until he had an accident that landed him in hospital, and from there on he was prescribed some pain killers that got him addicted and ended up on the streets exactly like this.
But now he's a recovering and hopefully he overcomes his battle.
