    Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
    Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
    Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.

      Steve you’re uneducated.
      Millions of people lost their prescriptions when the doctors washed their hands of them when the opioid crisis exploded “because of them” people started buying pain pills off the street to keep out of pain or extreme withdrawals and not knowing the whole time they were pressed fake oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl but it was too late by that time it was full blown addiction.
      That’s what happened to Tom Petty and Prince. It’s a deadly hook line and sinker and they don’t realize until it’s too late.

    • @AUTISTICLYCAN

      I think have long ago become immune to this type of suffering else it would not be allowed to continue year after year essentially unaltered. We have normalized these conditions by allowing them to fester unabated. We have normalized dope addicts suffering \ dying on our streets by simply considering these people "Drug Zombies" for whom chronic addiction is their informed lifestyle choice. To become a dope addict you at some point have to CHOOSE to abuse drugs. The pill, the needle, the spoon, the mirror don't walk up to you and force you into a life of drugs. Only unfortunates are those who were turned out to heroin by their degenerate doctor dealers peddling strong pain medications.

      Even with a big dumpster left for them the zombies have garbage everywhere! The drug hits them so hard it stops them in their tracks and doubles them over! This could all be solved by firehoses very quickly! Even dope wont bring them back to face the cold water and having all of their possesions completely soaked. Cold water can be very electrifying even to a zombie! No need for arrests , ambulances or police just hit em with the hoses!

    K& A restaurants, doctors offices etc. Parking meters were used. Many of the businesses had apartments or living quarters above the stores too. People on the sidewalks were upright and walking to or from a place of business or maybe to the elevated stations to head downtown or up to the northeast somewhere.

      Beats the hell out of a guy sitting there holding a piece of cardboard that reads "Why lie? I need money for weed." (Who, by the way, is usually lying: 90% of the time, that guy's spending the money on white powder, not green flower. A large majority of these people started out with an underlying mental health problem, which they then self medicate with street drugs. Now they have damaged their brain to the point that they can’t cope with everyday life. The most humane thing that could be done with them is to warehouse them in asylums while they just exist from day to day and wait for their life to finally come to an end.

    • @daffodil9075
      @daffodil9075 2 роки тому

      Most of the people in the video appear to be nodding off from the consumption of heavy narcotics; mental illness does not cause people to nod off that way unless they receive very high doses of antipsychotics, and probably not then. Instead of banishing them to some sort of purgatory, why not treat them. Also, make sure naloxone is readily available to prevent the brain damage from an untreated overdose. Another problem is that people often need to come off opiates slowly, but the government and medical community cuts them off abruptly. I remember as a child people generally understood heroin addiction much better than they do know, but didn't know much about how to treat it. Now, many professionals know much better how to wean people from opiates; but alas, the government has taken control of treatment of opiate addiction (in a very judgmental way in my opinion) with predictable results, maybe to shield large pharmaceutical companies from liability for their actions. Methamphetamine addiction is a whole other kettle of fish, and can be associated with (perhaps cause) permanent mental illness, very impaired judgement and permanent mental illness.

I pray these people will get help even if they were all in prison at least they would get help to get off these drugs. Just so awful and hard to watch.

      Why isn't America doing anything? Great question. Funny thing about addiction, providing services for addicts doesn't work unless addicts actually want the services. You could give each and every person in this video counseling, full medical, a fully furnished house in better neighborhoods and financial support. It makes no difference if the goal is to still get high. Just like so many other things in life, if people aren't willing to do the work to help themselves, there's nothing that can be done for them that will improve/prevent the situation.

      The sheer _amount_ of productivity in Kensington Avenue is quite frankly _astounding!_ Pray tell, could there be a _single_ street within the _whole_ United States in which more productivity occurs than in this very one? As soon as the wind blows even the tiniest of litter into Kensington Avenue from those _terrible_ streets surrounding it, its mighty fine residents are sure to locate and remove it. They are _truly_ environmentally friendly. Unlike those wretched ignorant Republicans, these fine people also take the pandemic _very_ seriously. They take their vaccines on a _daily_ basis! Beat that, vaxxers! You take your booster shots every six months, they take them every day!
      And they are a truly spiritual people! They need not a Church; they have no fear of what ignorant atheists may think of their sheer religiosity. They need not a special place to genuflect before the Almighty. This, surely, is part of why Kensington Avenue is such a role model to our world. God favours its residents because of their piety.
      They, too, are _extremely_ wise and happy. When they are not praying, many of them discuss the obscure works of the pre-Socratics from dawn till dusk, and discussions about German Idealism continue until the following dawn. What need have they for a university, when every single resident is a philosopher of the highest calibre? Were Socrates himself to see Kensington Avenue, he would say: I was born in the wrong place and two millennia too early in time! It is Kensington Avenue, and not the Greek city states, at which wisdom is truly loved. It is Kensington Avenue at which philosophy progresses in leaps and bounds, and where those who pursue wisdom have found a true home.
      Praise be upon Kensington Avenue, peace be upon its residents. It is truly a shining light to guide us all.
