Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.
These ‘city officials’ need sacking they’ve let this whole area rot they should be ashamed.
My understanding is that although it's been bad for some time -- the advent of covid brought it to this point.
Sacking? They need to be arrested, charged and stripped of all their assets and pensions. Let the proceeds go to helping these people and cleaning up the community.
@JaneCOGNITIVE DISSIDENT what does a generalization of a political party have to do with the inner cities and their drug problem?
@JaneCOGNITIVE DISSIDENT I think if you generalize a whole state by their political party much less someone’s race in that specific state, it’s too much of a generalization where no one is able to question you. Minority folks are typically leaning democratic strongly and whites people about the same, however just a bit less. Any state, city, or community with high crime rates has nothing to do with it being a democratic state. Crime can be white collar or blue collar, if anything look at possible recurring demographic trends within that city. I am seriously questioning if you do your research because half of your comment is a very generalized opinion with no base of facts
This is occurring in All Demoncrats controlled cities.

Every day I see these videos of a neighborhood I grew up in and still can't believe it has gotten this bad. I moved out of Kensington in 1990 when I was a teenager. I thank God for saving me from this hell but I continue to pray that the Mayor and other officials start helping these lost souls. So saddened to see this because it's like watching a video from a undeveloped country but NO it's right in the heart of Philadelphia not far at all from City Hall! 😥
I feel the same way about Detroit, and left there in '90 too!
I feel the same way about California and I left there in 1981!
Where is the undeveloped country with neighborhoods like this?
Praying for the mayor and other officials to start helping won't do it. Exposing them, disgracing them. and working to get them out of office to be replaced by officials with the guts to hand out some extremely tough "love" and tough measures to end this horror.
Don't pray for the mayor. These cities need touch on crime. Vote Republican.
I don't understand how a person can let themselves get to this extreme. Stop trying to escape and be present in your life, no matter how bad things get. Be strong, focus on making things better for yourself. There are very few who ever come back from this addictive life choice. When you lose everything else around you, dont lose yourself too. Addiction is the destruction of your soul, caught in a continual spiral of pain and suffering only ending upon death.
My brother resigned himself to the lifestyle. .. so he says. I just think he's s lazy bitch. His people have been telling him to go home cause he has a support system. He chooses not to come home*. So whatever
It’s called a Mental Break Down and it’s next to impossible to go back to normal when people have gone psychotic. What they need is to be taken out of this environment and placed with people who are kind, compassionate, understanding and who can care for these people. The USA and its politicians have milked “The Homeless Inc.” issue for so long and our tax dollars so hard that it’s difficult for the people who are really in need to get the help they desperately need.
Put small head shot pictures of the politicians in charge on the right or left of these videos and in a few days all this will be cleaned up. Mark my words. Funny how this works so well. Sad but true.

This is totally hell on earth. We have nothing like this in Sweden!
The U.S Capitalism is rotting the middle class, making the rich richer, soon it will get worse.
Sweden has good schooling for its next generation maybe, and parents who want to educate their children about the dangerous effects of drug abuse. This is so important
Crack was a result of the Iran-Contra affair, (the exchange of drugs for arms), that was under Republican Reagan. Reagan also eliminated scores of residential mental health facilities. Also, much of the opioid use today stems from pharmaceutical companies over-prescribing to whites. This is perhaps the first time that racism was a positive for Blacks. Doctors' racism resulted in their reluctance to prescribe opioids to Blacks -- they for some reason believe Blacks don't feel pain. Yes there are Blacks on opioids, but far more whites are.
@@loriannrichardson7644 so how do you explain the browns that are on it? You are right about alot of the whites but alot of these people that are out there are people with mental health issues that was going on way before the opioid epidemic . I think it's population control of the poor I've seen people of all colors out there using this death.
True, but there are some areas in Malmo and Stockholm that aren't nice either. Massive drug problem, the difference is that Sweden has social support system that allows those junkies to find housing. Drain the middle class (taxes) to support those who don't contribute to anything (junkies). Is that the right policy? I'm not so sure. I've lived in UK, DE, SE and PL and the only difference in EU countries is that junkies are wiped out of the streets and hidden somewhere. Believe me, I grew up amongst other teenagers that had a massive drug abuse problem, and some of my friends OD'ed for good. I was the one trying MJ with them for the first time and I was the one who observed them climbing up the drug abuse ladder, ending up being addicted to opioids. That problem is literally everywhere. I live in Canada now and it's between the US and EU. IMO the solution is to introduce death penalty/life sentence for drug dealers and treat them as they should be treated, like serial killers. If US spent even a fraction of what they spent on army and moved it to DEA, enforce their laws etc the opioid crisis would be gone. The problem is they have no interest in that because the corrupted politicians take their chunk of that dirt drug money. These street zombies are money making machines, it's unbelievable how much they spend on drugs DAILY. My old buddies used to spend more on drugs (money from theft, begging and dirty jobs) than I was making per month. It's insane.

No, this is just some streets in Kensington.
Yeah
Just Kensington.
75% Philly was like this in the crack era 80s early 90s but the modern day heroin/fetanyl epidemic is concentrated in Kensington. Close to 95, close to the northeast neighborhoods were most of the white addicts come from and there’s a lot of big Dominican and Rican suppliers there

As a functioning society, we can't just have two extreme ends of either locking people in jail or letting everyone do whatever the hell they please. We need something inbetween, not a detainment, also not 100% freedom. I don't know what it is, but we obviously need a solution to fix up the neighborhood shown in this video.
