    What causes pigmentation loss?
A drop in pigmentation may occur on the nose, eyes and mouth during the winter months and also in bitches following a season or pregnancy. This fading is generally considered to be due to a shortage of minerals, particularly iodine and iron.
How does Kelp Seaweed Powder help?
Seaweeds are a rich source of iodine, although some seaweeds contain much more than others, so giving the correct one is essential for maximum effect. The seaweed we use in our products is pharmaceutical grade Fucus vesiculosus which has a very high mineral content, providing a particularly high amount of iodine and iron to help maintain strong pigment. Our Kelp Seaweed Powder also contains all 37 of the minerals and trace elements required by the body, to provide your pet with great all-round nutritional support.
How do I use Kelp Seaweed Powder?
Many people find it useful to give our Kelp Seaweed Powder from autumn through to spring to help prevent a drop in pigment. It is necessary to give Kelp Seaweed Powder for a minimum of one month to enhance pigmentation that has been lost, although it may take two or more months for it to be completely restored.
For pets that have already experienced pigment loss, many owners have found that using Elderberry & Nettle Extract initially to regain the pigment is best, before swapping to our Kelp Seaweed Powder to maintain the pigment.

    Kelp Seaweed Powder Transcript
Hello, I'm Jo from Dorwest Herbs and I'm Managing Director and I'm going to chat a little about one of our powder supplements, and that is Kelp Seaweed Powder. Here we are!
Now I'm sure you've all heard about kelp seaweed for our animals and for us as well. Now kelp seaweed is incredibly rich in trace elements and minerals and therefore is a great addition to the diet to really make sure you're getting everything you need and especially if you really need a kind-of 'boost'!
Now with kelp seaweed, it's really important to look for a quality product because kelp seaweed has a nasty habit of absorbing toxins. We use a species called Fucus vesiculosus, and that is a deep sea variety, it's a brown seaweed.
Now deep sea seaweeds do mean that they're away from a lot of the pollutants in the sea. If you use one that's been harvested close to the shore, it can be more liable to pick up any toxins. This particular species we use. We make sure that it is to European pharmacopeia standards, that is medicinal quality and to reach those standards it has to be tested so it's tested to make sure they're isn't any heavy metals, contaminants, to make sure the microbiology is the right level so you really can be assured this is of the best quality. Now the smell is incredible. It's really like an intense walk to the beach! It's really finely milled as well, you can see it kind of settles in the tub, really finely milled. Now if your dog just really feels like it needs a bit of a boost, this is the great one. It's very rich in iron and iodine as well and that really helps pigmentation. So if when your dog loses a bit of pigmentation in its nose over the winter, we just want to improve it and enrich the coat, this is perfect. And it also helps grow a really good, robust coat. So for breeds that have got wire-y coats it's not going to make it soft either, or a dog perhaps that's had an operation and lost a bit of fur, this will help bring it back. So it is a really great supplement.
