I have learned so much because of YOU. I have one question, what do you mean by 1 OZ of fish per 35 LBS body weight, i don’t understand that? can you help me or anyone in these comments help me?!
@@Gustavo-jv9rq its just an average, feed 1 oz of fish for every 35 lbs of the pet's body weight. Ultimately you should look at it from a nutrient and caloric intake standpoint (as in how much omega-3 fatty acids your dog needs and how much the fish provides) but that gets a bit more involved. I do have videos on how to calculate these though!
I usually don’t comment on videos, but I wanted to thank you for the information! I’m young and I’m trying to convince my parents to change my dogs diet to the BARf diet. They literally feed my dog leftovers of whatever we had for dinner! So thank you so much for the information, and maybe I can show them your videos to convince them to change my dogs diet.
This was so nice to read, I'm so glad they're helpful! Good on you for trying, parents can be the most tricky to transition to the idea of a raw diet 😆
I am so happy I found your channel! My cats have been fed raw for about 4 years, but I have always been super nervous about any nutritional deficiencies even when my vet says they are doing wonderfully. I've never stopped researching and adjusting their diet as I learn new information. Your channel has been the most through place I have found. I have also been extremely hesitant on switching my dogs to raw, but eventually I will switch them over as well. Thank you so much!
I was trying to figure out how much iodine to give my kitty and you saved me with that formula! I LOVE your videos, thank you for teaching me how to take care properly of my pets.

I started feeding my cats balanced raw diet after watching all of your videos. 7 of my 9 cats love it! One of them even got addicted to kibble, but she always devours her raw meats. Another cat of mine had occasional diarrhea for the past few weeks, but it has stopped completely!! 2 of them are still transitioning. Animal proteins are quite restricted in where I live, so for now I only give them chicken & fish. Thank you so much for helping my cats to be healthy!❤❤❤
I'm really impressed oysters are being recommended for raw diet! Here in Spain oysters are a gourmet food and cost 5€ EACH one! I thought that price was worldwide. On the other hand mussels are super cheap. Please tell me what's the oyster price in USA! I really need to know haha
I found a can of oysters at the dollar store yesterday. Canned are decently available around here. They are not usually dollar store cheep though, but they are more accessible then they would be for you. We also have raw oysters lots of places. They are much more expensive than canned, but way cheeper than you guys as well.
Hello! And thanks for all your videos! Have you ever heard of hemp seed oil? You can buy this super food in pet stores, very rich in vitamins and macro nutrients, balanced between omega 3 and 6, good for the brain... I wonder if we can add this oil to homemaid cat food containing chicken, rather than fish oil... Is there unbalance?

A few questions for you: -how do you feel about salmon oil? -you do not recommend any kelp for dogs or cats even if they eat half kibble half raw? -I currently give my dog Nupro brand immunity and joint support, is that a good brand? -how do you feel about elderberry syrup? Thank you! I love your videos I am learning so much!
-Salmon oil can go rancid quickly when exposed to light and air. If you can't feed oily fish, the brands I recommend is Grizzly and Nordic Naturals. -If you are feeding 50% raw then yes but the kelp requirement would be so so small, since it's already small when feeding 100% raw. I also recommend Life Flo Iodine drops if you cant get the NOW brand kelp. Figuring out the dosage is a lot easier. -Nupro is fine to give, but it does have kelp as an ingredient so that would have to be factored in. -I haven't ever given elderberry, sorry!
I finally convinced my parents to let me get a kitten (when I get a job), I know I want to feed my kitten raw, but I'm worried about nutrient deficiencies. I really want to learn as much about raw feeding as I possibly can to provide the best life I can for my future kitty and prove to my parents that raw feeding isn't as scary as they think. Are there any other supplements you recommend for cats? My list of supplements (so far) consists of Wild Salmon/Pollock Oil, Trace Mineral Drops, Kelp Powder, Taurine, Vitamin E and Nutritional Yeast. I have access to Salmon/Anchovies/Sardines for Vitamin D, Oysters for Zinc, Blue Lipped Mussels/Green Tripe for Manganese and Beef Liver/Eggs for Vitamin B.
Hey, Primal, always a pleasure to hear your thoughts...what do you think of Colostrum, Marine Phytoplankton, Krill Oil, Fido's Flora and Pterostilbene, Resveratrol and Asxtaxanthin? These are the supplements I use on my 20-year old dog (in November)? I can't really say if that's responsible for her longer life, but all her siblings died at 13-14. Thoughts?
I feed half kibble and half raw food diet. Your videos have been extremely helpful…so far I have been dividing all the supplements in half which include fish oil, green lipped mussels, and even my vegetable purée content per day. I am assuming that the other half of these nutrients that are found in these supplements are in the kibble. Is it safe to assume the same for kelp. That if I were to divide the daily amount of kelp by half that would be sufficient to put in my raw diet
If fish and eggs are fed, I am wondering why kelp supplementation would be necessary for iodine. Adding kelp can be dangerous especially for dogs prone to hypothyroidism (per Jean Dodds).
Raw feeding is generally seen as unsafe by most vets in general. There's no way to be sure what nutrients your animal is actually getting even if you're very diligent and it's easy to miss signs of dietary deficiency in animals because they don't let on they feel bad until they feel REALLY bad. There's also a fair risk of bacterial contamination because the meat isn't fresh. 1 week old refrigerated meat is not fresh, animals in the wild eat FRESH raw kill, not week old meat. Dogs and cats are effected by the same pathogens humans are.
@@ezraoberheim1081 I have been feeding my two dogs raw homemade food for 11 years. They are both healthy and have never been to the vet other than for wellness checkups. Hello, How much Vitamin E liquid by solgar(mixed tocopherols) for a 4.5 raw fed cat, eats a small fish daily. It’s so hard to understand how much exactly
Hello, thank you for talking about this, I am learning so much from your channel. I have been feeding raw for awhile but am still experiencing some health issues with my cats. One of them has a flea allergy and is loosing lots of hair and has wounds from constant scratching. I was wondering what the powder you have used for fleas in other videos is and where to get it. Another cat has a persistent ear infection ( bacteria or yeast) I suspect this could be a gut issue or food allergy, do you have any suggestions for this? I was also considering just switching to whole prey ?

so for a 18lb dog would be a little less than a ounce per day for fish? I read that it is recommended to feed 2-3 times a week when feeding fish..but is it ok to give fish oil daily?
I recently had been finding ways to switch my dog to raw diet and I found your channel. Super educational and I love how you described each supplement for the missing nutrition. I was wondering for 1:27 on the fish, are you substituting it for the muscle meat or is it an addition to the meal? And how often to give fish?
Thank you so much for your videos! They’re really educational and the editing is beautiful too 👏🏼 I’m doing research on NRC-balanced raw because I want to transition my kitten from commercial frozen raw to DIY and I’m scared of messing up 😅 So I wanted to ask you about Vitamin E: isn’t a drop a day too much? Thanks again!
Thank you so so much! It depends on the IU serving size! The vitamin E I use has a very low IU serving size. Many others do as well, but it's also completely fine to give every few days.
Are these also good for cats? I know you mentioned dogs in this video, I was just curious if this is for cats and dogs! I'm transitioning my 15-week old exotic shorthair kitten to a raw diet. I followed your suggestion to feed 1 type of animal (chicken). So far I've been feeding .9oz of muscle meat .1oz liver .3oz meat with bone. I feed her around 3 times a day (total 3.5oz of food a day). I want to add a heart in next and implement these supplements. Wondering if you have any suggestions or important things to tell me not to forget! Really want to make sure I'm doing it right. Thank you so much!!!
You're doing great!! These are also for kitties too :) once fully transitioned to other proteins I'd start adding in the kelp and vitamin E as well as oysters (or the vitaboost, but the zinc analysis isn't guaranteed), green or blue lipped mussels for manganese, and some source of oily fish, but you can certainly use the mussels or fermented fish stock as well as they have omega-3s.
@@PawsofPrey I was going to use sardines as my source of omega 3's is it okay to get the same kind we humans eat? :) Also I am thinking to start feeding her an egg yolk once a week (as I saw in your other video). PS: Your videos are so informing if you ever were interested in writing a book or consultations I would definitely support you! Thank you!
Aw gosh thank you! I'm hoping to consult after taking some courses and getting certified! Yes those are fine to feed, if they are canned make sure they are only canned in water and aren't high in salt!
What is the dosage for wheat grass powder for a 10 lbs dog, I want to supplement wheat grass because i dont have oysters and lipped muscels available in my country. i want to supplement wheat grass for manganeese and vitamin e
For the fish at 1oz per 35lbs is that daily? Also you suggest in small dogs to spread that out, does that mean like 2 or 3 times a week do 2.5 oz to make up to 7 oz for the week? Thank you so much for your videos, I have been raw feeding die over a year but recently found your videos and feel they are giving me the knowledge to properly tweak their diets to optimal!!

Hi! Can u tell me what is the dosage of green lipped mussels powder for cats? My cat weight is 10 pounds and I just bought green lipped mussels powder 400 mg capsules and I don't really find a dosage for it 😥
Hey!! Great great information!! I am giving my 2 month puppy sunflower seeds but I don’t think I’m meeting the requirement, can I add the vitamin e drops? She is 7 pounds how many drops should I give her? Thank you so much in advance!!
Sorry to be pedantic but is there a weight measurement for soaked pumpkin seeds rather than teaspoons? My pup needs 1.1kg of a food a day which after a quick conversion comes to 14.5 teaspoons of pumpkin seeds. I realise I can weigh 14.5 teaspoons myself but are these level teaspoons or heaped teaspons and how big are these spoons? I have several teaspoons of various sizes so I would prefer a ratio like '100g of seeds to x amount of food' if it is possible. Has anybody gone down that road and found a more accurate weight calculation? Sorry for fine tuning it so much but my pup is suffering from hair loss and I need to get the balance of the nutrients perfect to rule out a nutrient imbalance.
Hi! Alright, so I watched your video after a few months of first raw, and then now home cooked meal (my puppy's like 9 months now) and I've been lowkey panicking while trying to get all the proper nutrition. I thought chicken, pumpkin, carrots and bits of fruits were enough but noooooooooooooooooo 😭. Are air dried green lipped mussel also low on manganese? I've been mainly depending on that. Also- I've turned the sunflower seed into sunflower butter instead of soaking and puree-ing. Does this get in the way of the vitamin absorbsion? :( Also (sorry!!) I've recently bought a supplement that is made of kelp, wheatgrass, moringa, and coconut. BUT the store didn't state the percentage and said they won't be able to tell me when I asked. I've been giving my dog (3kg +-) like 1/4teaspoon of this (tiny since they suggested 1 to 2 teaspoon) since I'm also giving her eggshell powder and chicken liver. Her stool's been a bit black but like not tarry or crumbly and I'm just soooo confused. :,) sorry for all this, especially since I'm asking about cooked and not even raw meal :,) But yeah I even dreamt about livers after watching your video :,) *waves a big flag because i tried googling but I just couldn't find the answer*
I am confused between stabilized and non stabilized green lipped mussel powder. The folks who stabilize it say that is necessary to retain the fatty acids. The folks who do not stabilize say they don’t because they have to add chemicals to stabilize it. Anyone know what is best?
Do you use any heart worm medications for your pets? or any medications at all like vets tell us to use? I want to give my dog the most organic things possible and not sure if medication is even necessary if there healthy. I hv a German shepherd he is 3 years old and is healthy. Thanks!
I personally do, yes, because I live in the south and mosquitos are pretty bad. I don't want to take any risks. I use heartgard. There are holistic ways of going about preventing HW though
What do you think about the Wildly Blended mushroom supplement? Would you supplement your dog's diet with it if you weren't 100% raw feeding your dog? I do 1/2 raw & 1/2 high protein kibble.. Thanks!
Can I give a cat fermented cheese for probiotics, if I don't have access to fermented goat kefir or fermented fish broth? What kind of fermented cheese could a cat eat? I do have access to tripe, it is not green though, is that okay for probiotic needs? If not what is a good probiotic supplement alternative for cats and/or dogs?
Fermented goat or sheep cheese is fine to feed as long as it's not salted or seasoned. Is it bleached/white tripe? If so, then that means it's been cleaned and all the beneficial nutrients have been removed. A good probiotic supplement is NOW Probiotic-10 (in the billions)
I used Earth Animal's Herbal Yeast Free Flea and Tick Powder. I also like Wildly Blended's flea and tick powder. On top of that I use Wondercide spray when we hike!
Also this is all to be done daily correct? I mean it could be distributed through their meals for example for my pup it’s recommended for her weight 8ounces of total barf diet so I’m going to divide it into 4 ounces twice a day, therefore with these recommended essential supplements are to be divided as well and done daily?
hi! im hopefully going to have a cat soon and was wondering if im supposed to give them supplements if they consume wet food? because the title say "raw fed" im a little confused. thanks!
This is only for raw fed pets as we need them to fill some nutrient gaps. Wet foods already have these included, but you CAN still add certain things to their wet food to boost them a bit, like fish oil, raw egg, and even small pieces of raw meat
I was thinking about transitioning my cat to a raw diet as i found it made the most sense to be feeding. I was thinking of adding purade pumking seeds and sunflower seeds for added vitamins and nutirance. Although you stated they weren't the most biologically apropriate for their diets. should i still feed them or are they not safe at all to be fed? ;-;
@@PawsofPrey so should i feed my cat powdered additives instead? Although I also live in Canada and I was wondering if any of these small businesses ship to where I live, that's part of the reason to why i opted for the seed mix. ;-;
Cooking destroys the nutrients in the meat. Do not cook for the cat unless it's a snack or they will become malnourished. They do not cook in the wild. We can afford to cook our food because we are omnivorous and don't depend as heavily on the proteins. Cats need everything they can get out of the raw meat.
Hi 😊 Is it ok to give cat other type of sea weed than kepl? I currently have a ton of dulse to be used up and I haven't found many resources on this topic. Thank you 😊
I believe puppies should have their initial vaccines and boosters (rabies, DHPP) and then titered every year after, because sometimes the antibodies are still in their system and they don't need a yearly booster. Do what YOU are comfortable with though, and work with your vet on that decision.
I’m in the process of changing kibble to cooked food for my chihuhua mix are these suplements also needed for a cooked diet? And can I cook everything you recomend in your videos? I’m still too scared to give her raw food so I’m cooking for her (without any seasoning).
@JUNY LIN Yeah but I was asking if I could add these vitamins to my cooked diet and my other question was if I could cook everything I see in her other videos instead of giving it raw. I don’t want to cook the vitamins themselves, thank you, I appreciate but my dog doesn’t seem interested in raw (only beef).
Most of this fish has salt in it. Unsalted canned salmon is better. You can find this at whole foods and other stores. You don't want added salt in their food.

so for a 18lb dog would be a little less than a ounce per day for fish? I read that it is recommended to feed 2-3 times a week when feeding fish..but is it ok to give fish oil daily?
Your videos are so awesome! What’s your social media, I would love to see your dogs in a daily bases
Thank you! We are on instagram @the_primalpack and I do have a side account for Matsu LOL, @matsu_primalcorgi
I recently had been finding ways to switch my dog to raw diet and I found your channel. Super educational and I love how you described each supplement for the missing nutrition. I was wondering for 1:27 on the fish, are you substituting it for the muscle meat or is it an addition to the meal? And how often to give fish?
Thank you so much! It is an addition! I should have mentioned that
Thank you so much for your videos!
Is there a video saying ALL the things we need to make sure our pets have (zinc, magnesium, things like that?)

What is the dosage for wheat grass powder for a 10 lbs dog, I want to supplement wheat grass because i dont have oysters and lipped muscels available in my country. i want to supplement wheat grass for manganeese and vitamin e
Hello, how would you calculate the wheat germ oil NOW brand for 50lbs dog for their vitamin E? It has 20mg of vitamin E
Hmm I recalculated Alya’s diet and its lacking on E and copper opposed to NRC. Should I supplement it?
What do you use for flea and tick prevention?
For the fish at 1oz per 35lbs is that daily? Also you suggest in small dogs to spread that out, does that mean like 2 or 3 times a week do 2.5 oz to make up to 7 oz for the week? Thank you so much for your videos, I have been raw feeding die over a year but recently found your videos and feel they are giving me the knowledge to properly tweak their diets to optimal!!
I am also wondering this! Is the amount you mention supposed to be fed per day or per week? Thank you!
Are all of these great suggestions for puppies? My girl is 9 weeks old. Thank you!
Yes! And puppies need a balanced diet daily, so be sure to review everything I go over in this video: ua-cam.com/video/6yDyA0jh-sk/v-deo.html as well as the info here on feeding puppies raw: tinyurl.com/y6bhpveh
I noticed that beef is very high in zinc. I am wondering if oysters are necessary if enough beef or other red meat is included in the diet.
what canned sardines in water do you recommend I heard its best to get fish from Alaska and Norway oceans. Also will giving Salmon oil mess with the sardines? is it ok to give both
If I get the kin&kind raw vitaboost will that have enough vitamin e for my puppy because of the wheatgrass or do I need more vitamin e?
How exactly do you prepare the pumpkin seeds and how much can I give my dogs who are toy poodles? Also can how long can you keep the pureed seeds for? thankk you :)
Are you planning to do a video on raw food diet for kittens? Im getting a new kitten soon and want to start them on a raw food diet right away to avoid a transition period. Would appreciate any advice!
I am, but it's a lot of info packed into one video! Sorry for the delay. It's one of my most requested videos.
How much green tripe for manganese per body wt?
Do cats need iodine and any of these minerals/vitamins? And are the dosages the same calculations as dogs?
All depends on the vitamin E drops you get and the IU dosage!
So basically if I include whole pray into their diet, supplements won't be needed at all?
I think my dogs salmon oil has vitamin e in it already. Should I still get the vitamin e oil?
Also (sorry!!) I've recently bought a supplement that is made of kelp, wheatgrass, moringa, and coconut.
Do you recommend the honest base mix for raw grinds to make meeting them nutritional requirements easier ?
What if Vitamin E oil isn't available anywhere? Would soaked and purred almonds and sunflower seeds still help cats or would it be more bad than good?
That wouldn't be good for cats unfortunately. Are you able to get whole leaf wheatgrass powder?
I am not too sure what to use to measure out 140mcg of kelp
do we need to add salt to the raw food diet or do dogs get a sufficient amount from the raw diet
Are these still okay to give even if you’re doing a half raw half kibble diet ?
What do you think about the Wildly Blended mushroom supplement? Would you supplement your dog's diet with it if you weren't 100% raw feeding your dog? I do 1/2 raw & 1/2 high protein kibble.. Thanks!
Haven't used it but heard some good things about it! I personally don't feel my dog needs it
So I want to alternate between raw & cooked
Can I use these in cooked as well
Do you have a video or advice on herbs I can add and have in the garden?
Wheatgrass for sure! Also cilantro, parsley, spinach, kale, and dandelion greens if you can do those.
@@PawsofPrey awesome, thank you so much.
Do you know the phosphorus content of the answers bone broth?
You mentioned in another video about a flea and tick powder. do you still use it? and which one do you use?
I used Earth Animal's Herbal Yeast Free Flea and Tick Powder. I also like Wildly Blended's flea and tick powder. On top of that I use Wondercide spray when we hike!
can't i get manganese from brown rice and iodine from shrimp?
Also this is all to be done daily correct? I mean it could be distributed through their meals for example for my pup it’s recommended for her weight 8ounces of total barf diet so I’m going to divide it into 4 ounces twice a day, therefore with these recommended essential supplements are to be divided as well and done daily?
Yes that's correct and fine to do!
hi! im hopefully going to have a cat soon and was wondering if im supposed to give them supplements if they consume wet food? because the title say "raw fed" im a little confused. thanks!
This is only for raw fed pets as we need them to fill some nutrient gaps. Wet foods already have these included, but you CAN still add certain things to their wet food to boost them a bit, like fish oil, raw egg, and even small pieces of raw meat
I was thinking about transitioning my cat to a raw diet as i found it made the most sense to be feeding. I was thinking of adding purade pumking seeds and sunflower seeds for added vitamins and nutirance. Although you stated they weren't the most biologically apropriate for their diets. should i still feed them or are they not safe at all to be fed? ;-;
The seed mix isn't really appropriate for cats, especially with how much you need to add to meed the nutrient requirements they provide.
@@PawsofPrey so should i feed my cat powdered additives instead? Although I also live in Canada and I was wondering if any of these small businesses ship to where I live, that's part of the reason to why i opted for the seed mix. ;-;
do you add these supplements to their meal everyday?
Can this work for a homemade cooked diet for cats , as well ?
Cooking destroys the nutrients in the meat. Do not cook for the cat unless it's a snack or they will become malnourished. They do not cook in the wild. We can afford to cook our food because we are omnivorous and don't depend as heavily on the proteins. Cats need everything they can get out of the raw meat.
Thank you so much for these! I just wish the links would work haha
I'm sorry, they are all working for me, hmm. What's happening exactly?
@@PawsofPrey it is just saying it can not load the page. I will try to just find the product without the link, thanks for responding!
@@Vani9326 I'm so sorry! Let me know if you can't find them and I will try and find them elsewhere.
how often can we feed oyster?
Hi 😊 Is it ok to give cat other type of sea weed than kepl? I currently have a ton of dulse to be used up and I haven't found many resources on this topic. Thank you 😊
Unfortunately no, not safely. Many sea kelp contains heavy metals and arsenic, kelp even being one of them if you don't source it properly!
Are supplements necessary for every meal or as needed?
Would Milk Thistle be a good supplement to add to my dog’s raw diet? 🤍
I know many people who do! But it's often just given for detoxing.
What vaccines do you reccommend for a puppy? Thanks 💞
I believe puppies should have their initial vaccines and boosters (rabies, DHPP) and then titered every year after, because sometimes the antibodies are still in their system and they don't need a yearly booster. Do what YOU are comfortable with though, and work with your vet on that decision.
@@PawsofPrey ok thank you so much! 💞💖
i give my dog zesty paw 8 in 1 supplement is it ok?
Do you salmon oil?
I’ve heard to feed 10-15% of the diet as fish. Is this true?
Not necessary, it's not nutrient dense enough to really fill much purpose besides meeting the EPA/DHA requirements
Hi, how many times do you feed your cat in a day?
His meal is split between 2 feedings a day
@@PawsofPrey Thank you!
How to know a dogs Vitamin A requirement
how often do you give these supplements?
These can be given daily per the amount it says to give on the container. Same goes for the fresh whole foods I go over as well.
Haii ❤️
Most of this fish has salt in it. Unsalted canned salmon is better. You can find this at whole foods and other stores. You don't want added salt in their food.
