I appreciate that - I did tend put an organic mix in with my soil in previous years. I think you are right but in this case I grabbed what was left over from this season. Hopefully I won't regret that decision. I shall pin this comment.
Nice one Xavier! I am glad you like this light too, I have noticed a lot of growth in mine already too! I love the indoor lighting setup with the white background 🙂Great video and presentation with lots of great info!!
I really appreciate you talking about the light before - this has turned things around for me from an indoors growing aspect. My kids complain because my trees spend all day in the front room BUT I am seeing a lot more active growth from Jade and Ficus :)
Gotta love tiger bark ficus! Even if it's been unhappy in a pot for three years, it still keeps alive and growing, little by little.. good work Xavier!
I only have the one indoor tree. 😊 It was a gift from some fella off UA-cam 😀 I’ve started shaping the tree and looking forward to it developing next year and beginning to maybe look like the tree at 3:40 by the end of the year. 🙏🌱🌳
I can't believe that guy gave you anything at all - I hear he is pretty tight! He goes around giving people worthless pieces of rock he finds in Sainsbury carparks :)
superthrive i use also mate. love your little studio :) .. i have a grow tent in my bedroom with a 1000watt light in it for my indoor plants. only for the winter though the rest of the year they go into my 20x40ft greenhouse :)
This is the first time using a gro light and I am amazed at the results I am already seeing. It is amazing how different people manage the hobby. I know Andy of Bonsai Crazy has trees on his roof :)
Ficus is a bit marmite but once you start appreciating trees those roots can really look nice. Love Nigel saunders root over temple . Next time xav I think you need to say ok big chop coming up here I go. Plus you need cats. Anyway thanks for doing the dishes to show me how to revive a tree and have a good Christmas and new year.
We have been watching the same Nigel videos i fear! I think I have copied those immortal words a few times with previous Ficus videos - I know when I did the big branch chop on that first Ficus a lot of people got upset...
I've heard of Superthrive, but never seen how it's used. Super helpful - really would love to hear what your results are in the future. Lovely compositions - hope they start growing with lots of vigour!
The trees will be much happier now. I’ve used Superthrive as an additive for watering. Never thought to use it as a root soak. Will be wanting to know your impression.
Hi Xavier, those are gorgeous and healthy looking ficus. 🤩 Mine where fine during the last year, now suffering since some weeks.😮 Yellowing and dropping off leaves… We will see if they‘ll survive and recover. Myself being well, enjoyed your video and some days off duty. 😊 Enjoy your day 😘 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina P.S. Love the dino 🫶👍 Bought a black bear recently, to accompany my larch. 🐻😊
If you insist then I will gratefully accept anything to cover fertiliser costs. The easiest way for me is paypal to expressionsbonsai@gmail.com Mark it as a gift. BUT...it really isn't expected :)
Yes...you picked up on the one aspect that has caused unhappiness in the household. Now they have nowhere to dump their stuff when they come in the front door :)
I'm surprised you haven't been inundated with the "there's no such thing as an 'indoor tree!' 38£&'*( 🧟♀️", pedantic zombie gatekeeper hord; it's one of my pet peeves in the bonsai community that I find completely unhelpful and off-putting to tell beginners because they're not literally asking for a tree that grows indoors in nature, they're asking for a plant that is most suitable for and can survive an indoor environment with a bit of care. Bit of a rant haha 😆
Truthfully...I used the term indoor for the benefit of UA-cam search algorithm. I have done a lot of ficus videos and they are generally not popular for my channel. I think I mentioned I keep them outside for as long as is practicable though. Thankfully the bonsai gatekeepers spend a lot more time expressing their views on facebooks and stuff :)
FWIW my ficus are happier with 15-20% organic soil and the rest bonsai soil... super thrive is good fertilizer..😊❤

Hi Xavier good information for people who keep indoor trees, as you know I don't have room to have indoor trees, good luck with a forest.
You know I have seen those indoor trees in your room :)
The tiger barks are lookin great, Xav. I’m diggin it
I do think they are often undervalued as a tree...

So good to hear from you Dave - how is life as a famous author?
I only have the one indoor tree. 😊

did you also get a tree from Xav?
I can't believe that guy gave you anything at all - I hear he is pretty tight! He goes around giving people worthless pieces of rock he finds in Sainsbury carparks :)
Are you hinting that i didn't give you anything to take back with you by chance Jelle :)
Thanks Xavier, great tips if only l had room inside 😊
My kids are telling me there is no room for me to do that everyday :)

Lots of good info thanks xavier. Will be good to see how that fertiliser works.
We probably won't see any observable results but who knows?

It was a recommendation from a Bonai gropwer in Scotland. Only time will tell if it really makes any big difference :)
Great video, Xavier. I pick up a few great tips here!
Cheers - I love working on Ficus but don't bother with videos much because I never seem to get any interest on my channel.
@ Oh I would really like to see you work on ficus more. Make the videos about what you love, Xavier. Forget the about the algorithm! lol 😂
The trees will be much happier now. I’ve used Superthrive as an additive for watering. Never thought to use it as a root soak. Will be wanting to know your impression.
Hopefully I will be able to observe the difference - they may just become happy because I have put the in bigger pots?

Bears love larch - my brown bear is very happy in his larch copse :)
We had a chronic summer Xavier it was poor , always learning with you buddy great video , havn't got a ficus but i will be adding one in 2025.
I agree with you about the summer - let's see how these three kick on in 2025.
Great video xav
Cool light bulb
Just soemthing Adam talked about one day and i decided to invest. it looks like a moon lander :)
🙂👍👌
I’d like to make a contribution to your fertilizer fund and send you a merry Christmas gift. How do I do that?
If you insist then I will gratefully accept anything to cover fertiliser costs. The easiest way for me is paypal to expressionsbonsai@gmail.com Mark it as a gift. BUT...it really isn't expected :)
Ehm.. Dinner with the family? Whats happening there if you cannot use your table anymore?
Yes...you picked up on the one aspect that has caused unhappiness in the household. Now they have nowhere to dump their stuff when they come in the front door :)
I thought indoor bonsai were a myth 😂
😂
😂😂😂
😂 Indoor bonsai and unicorns.
Nah, HEALTHY indoor bonsai are a myth. Except for when Xav is doing it.
I transport my indoor bonsai everywhere using my unicorn sleigh :)
This video came at perfect time my ficus has randomly dropped about 70-80% of its leafs
Not sure why

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Haha yeah... and the Reddits 😆
I don't believe that there are indoor bonsai. ;)
The man behind the superthrive recommendation. Thanks for this tip and let's see if it has the desired affect :)
