Kiddo has months of experience doing partial car reviews and specializes in back seat ergonomic design critiques, as it applies to children and shorter humans. In addition, she also provides olfactory feedback to the principal reviewer. A pro indeed!
This generation styling has aged very well I think, very handsome vehicle.
I can't speak the same for the interior.
@@jraheemjefcoat429 agreed, dated interior, old software, terrible backup camera quality.
Congrats on 22 years! My wife and I just hit 22 in August as well 💜
I have a Rav4 Prime SE that I bought new at MSRP for $41k. I then received $10k back via state and federal rebates and credits. At $31k net, it's the best darn vehicle you can get for the money. I've already put 17k miles in it and I absolutely love this thing. It has so much power in mountain passes and I actually find it very quiet for the price.
You are lucky that you can buy one at MSRP
. Where ‘s it, I hope I can get one too.
Thank you buddy.
Want one, but can’t buy one anywhere without waiting a lifetime.
Enjoyed watching this video. I'm already an owner and everything you stated was spot on. Totally dug the way you presented the information too. Love your family dynamic and having them involved in this video. 👍🏼👍🏼
That’s very kind of you to say. Cheers!!
We have a silver with black roof. Bought it in December. We get close to 48 miles in electric range. Last time we bought gas was in March. My wife loves this car.
My Prime is probably my second favorite car I have owned (and the first was nostalgia not quality. 3000 miles in and have filled the gas tank 2 times and 1/2 way thru third
Damn that's crazy, I've been driving the gas-only model over a year and I probably fillup that much every 1~2 months.. nxt cars def gonna b a phev
I’m hearing “ just okay” for $50K. Toyota is great at utility and I’ve owned quite of few. Can’t wait to see the evolution of these cars.
You requested comments on the RAV4 styling... I like the looks of the RAV4 in general but if I could, I would swap out the squared off wheel wells for rounded ones and remove the "Storm Trooper" vibe on the lower half of the front grill/bumper. Based on other RAV4 reviews, I would also add a little more sound deadening insulation. Thanks for another great family car review! 🙂
Great Review. We love our 2019 RAV4 XSE Hybrid. We wanted the LE trim, but it would have been special order and the XSE was on the lot. No regrets. The cons are rather minor for us.
I have a 2021 Rav4 Hybrid and it's amazingly good for the package! And averaging 41 MPG has been great these past few months :)
I'm so ready for the polished chrome trend to be over. Add to that gloss black. But great review, as always!
Excellent video guys!
First I want to say I love all your reviews. They are quick paced, snappy, fun and especially informative. And most importantly, they are realistic and you review cars most people can afford to drive.
I really like the combination of the dark blue exterior and the tan interior that you can get on the RAV4. Great combo and look. Wish we could have got that on our Venza.
We loved the RAV4 Prime but here in Canada, we were told the wait was 2-5 years (depending on which sales person you talk to). Also, thank you for sharing that the RAV4 Prime (and our Venza) uses an eCVT not a regular CVT. They are completely different but too many reviewers just say it's a CVT and then commenters say, "Ugh, I hate CVT's!".
$50,000 for a Toyota RAV4. Totally in the "luxury" compact SUV realm.
Had no idea you had your own family channel! Great review! Subscribing!! Hello from Northern Illinois!
Glad to have you aboard! Sending hi5s your direction. 🖐️
I love the spec that you reviewed 💙😎
Being a Toyota fan (I’m on my fourth Camry), the one thing that bugs me about the brand (Honda too)is the interior materials do not improve as you move up the price ladder; the dash, headliner, armrests, etc. are exactly the same in the LE as the XLE. I would think that if you’re going to pay $20K more for the top of the line model that the materials would improve. I guess that’s what Lexus is for…
YESSS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE, next should be the Kona 👀
Great review. Hope they make a Highlander Prime with the upcoming 2023 model.
Thanks for the videos but simply amazed that in most cases, people can’t obtain these models you test. Do the manufactures provide any insight?
This hasn’t aged a bit as far as the exterior and I think for 2023 the tech will be updated to Toyotas new Infotainment system. With wireless over the air updates i think that we see in the 2023 highlander. And a fully digital display as well so this definitely won’t be out of date and it will age gracefully over the next few years.
I love that evie was in charge of the fun 😂😂😂
If I could find one at a reasonable price - I'd snap one up. But 2021 RAV4 Prime SEs with 10-20k miles are selling for 55-60k and XSE trim for 60-70k In a market that's already kind of crazy - somehow the market has decided the RAV4 Prime is worth Audi / Volvo money and it makes no sense at all at that kind of price.
Lololol I LOVE these family reviews. We have a 6yr old, but we didn’t take that 7yr old more mature review thing personally😂
This is the car we would have got for our long term daily driver tester but they simply are not available. I think the Rav 4 will get a whole new design change before the current demand on these is satisfied. If I knew part of my journey was going to be stop and go city traffic I would want a full battery. Probably get crazy range in that situation. Crazy.
the chrome/brushed trim is a bit much, most notably on the rear hatch. I prefer the black trim they use on the adventure model. is that available on the prime?
Every time I start watching one of these I always wonder “Is this the one when he accidentally backhands Evie?”
Each time we shoot one of these reviews I wonder the same thing! 😹 So far, so good, Micah is enthusiastic but controlled with his gestures!
@@Eviedish He is the best! Hey, I just checked your channel. You don't have any videos. I think you could do really well with your own channel!
I'm not a fan of the rav4 but this is the only one I really like. It looks upgraded. Great color and body style. I really like the wheels
I really really wanted one of these to replace my burny bolt that gm bought back and 2017 Volt a year ago. Dealer markups we’re absolutely insane, I would have never never never saved enough gas to make up the rip off prices. So I bought a Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug in hybrid instead. For sticker. No markups. Yes it’ll never go as far on electric (I get 25 miles but can charge mid day) and never get as good gas mileage (20mpg on pure gas mode) but the money I saved over the RAV4 primeval buys the vehicles lifetime worth of gas and electric several times over.
Until it starts falling apart and buyer's remorse kicks in ; )
Micah looked worried for a second at 10:39 hahaha
Love your guys' content ( as always)...maybe after the new CRV hybrid is out and you review it...you could do an over all comparison/ opinion between the current crop of compact awd hybrid suvs? Well, i would watch it....lol. You guys are the best!
Yes! I’m so torn with the new 2023 CRV hybrid - I want to see a refresh in the Rav 4 2023 interior
Hey Micah Muzio, I think the next one I think you should do is a Toyota Prius Prime family review!
As soon as we can get our hands on the 2023 model, we definitely will!
One other reason to recharge the battery using the engine might be getting up very long mountain grades. Some PHEVs like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV don’t have a ton of power from the gasoline engine, so to maintain speed on hills you need to have a certain amount of charge in the battery
We have a Prime XSE, I’m wondering if you can fully charge the battery going downhill there which looks like Rim of the world highway? I get 2-3 EV miles of regen charge going down a 3 mile hill
I had a Blue Flame XLE Hybrid, it was perfect
I didn’t know the muzio family was reviewing unicorns now! Luckily I bought mine in early 2021
I use HV and charge Mode for high speed highway driving to get fluids to operating temps then save the EV for streets. Or when I don’t have EV range I like to add 1-2 miles of EV range for In-n-out waiting
I really like the prime look... but today I saw the CX-50 GT and it may be less functional but it's wayyy more beautiful than my LE trim I ordered 7 months ago............
I’m in Vancouver BC and was told the wait list is 2-4 years maybe. In 2020, I think (?), the wait was up to a year.
For Why to Recharge the Battery with the Engine:
You have a long commute, and you've depleted your battery on the way to work.
On the way home, you know you will be driving highway first, and then congested city traffic.
You might want to charge the battery while you are on the highway, sacrificing a little bit of fuel efficiency, and use the EV power during the congestion.
I waited 6+ months on a waitlist to get one and nothing. Ditched it for the better styled Kia Sportage Hybrid (the PHEV is just hitting dealers now). Toyota needs to update its interiors badly.
I got my Rav4 Prime by pure luck in North Hollywood since guy buying it was stuck in Ukraine. I get about 2.9 mi/kwh in EV mode, 40 to 42 mpg in hybrid mode, and in pure gas mode charging battery it gets about 22mpg. If you let traction battery drain to where its in HV only mode it doesn't feel as fast. I have a feeling its closer to 225 hp like the normal hybrid if don't have extra charge. Yea its 12 hours at 16 amps 120V, you can limit the current on the car in the settings to 8 amps so it takes 24 hours to charge at 120V. I guess that's so don't over load a circuit depending where you are.
2022 RAV 4 Prime model SE owner. This summer we have been averaging 50 miles on all electric with a full charge, and when operating in pure hybrid mode with a depleted battery for nearly 1,000 miles has been 50.99 mpg, that is calculated by miles driven and gas pumped. The mpg dash gauge appears to be fairly accurate within 2 mpg or so. This is driving here in NW Oregon on rural highways and roads with speeds 30 MPH in town to 40 - 55 MPH on the open road.
This beats any SUV plug in hybrid all wheel drive that is available here in the U.S. in my opinion. If anybody knows of any other similar SUV that beats this please let me know and that will be our next SUV.
I have 60 EV mile range. The second best thing is the 302 horsepower. This car is rugged and powerful!
Since the RAV4 Prime isn’t available, I’d consider the 2023 Woodland edition or just plain Trail edition in Lunar Rock with white roof.
Aww. Cute family!!
The new headlamps make the whole car look so much better, it’s still a very handsome design. Well done Toyota.
Im in Canada and have been waiting almost 2 years and still no idea when ill get it...
I always hear that the RAV4 rattles or is just too noisy. I guess a hybrid or the prime must have quiet (engines) but still has a loud cabin - no insulation? I’ve test driven a gas version but a few years ago.
How come you haven’t reviewed the new NX yet?
Yeah, sell your current car first and a kidney! LOL The crazy wait times not withstanding, the ADM on the Primes in the Atlanta metro area is just crazy stupid, though not as crazy as on the Ford F150 Lightning or the 'Vette Z06.
As always, great and entertaining review!
I like the look of the exterior overall. Minus the hubcaps on the base trim. The interior looks old because of the gagues and the huge bezel on that screen.
I have been getting close to 48/49 actual on electric, with the climate control On in eco mode, in the Northeast
I ordered one over a year ago. Dealer told me last month it will be 2 more years. I've given up and ordered a BZ4X.
And that one ain't coming out any time soon either...
This review is functional.
Man I did not know these could reach 50k. Wow
The Bell of the Ball for PHEVs!
A family friendly vehicle at a not so family friendly price.
Have the ‘21 version for a year now… absolutely no regrets… if you are into practicality and efficiency, nothing on the market is it’s equal. Yes sadly they’ve only been able to make like 27k in ‘21 and for ‘22 same or even less. That’s probably why they are only available in ZEV states for now.
And yes like others have said, if you really consider what’s under the hood, especially the impressive HVAC system, it is an incredible feat of engineering to have so much power, efficiency, practicality. EVs are coming, no question, but Toyota’s previous stance of PHEVs for the longer term is proven very strongly with the RAV4 Prime.
Micah with his witty one liners.
Personally I love the style of the Rav 4, but admittedly that's also because I already own one, lol. Mine is a 2013 that I got used, but still, love my Rav 4
Micah, I'm confused. Are you still with Edmunds? Or are you on your own?
I kept pulling up Edmunds, looking for your reviews. And then suddenly you popped up on your own channel.
I actually work for Kelley Blue Book. And yeah, I'm still happily employed there. Though these days I'm doing a bit less hosting and more working behind the scenes. :)
@@MicahMuzio okay I was just missing seeing you on the broadcast. You have a funny style. I also like the tall brother, and the new sistah, each of you has a different style that's really fun to watch.
Okay so I didn't even know you had a UA-cam channel and now that I'm checking KBB I realized you're not even on there are you still working there or is this UA-cam's way of telling me that you're not lol
Dang, the kid is growing so fast.
Wanted this in Australia but had they no sell 😢
8 months to 2 years wait list for a Rav4 Prime.
best videos are with ur family 😄
Anyone in california that can list their weekly bill for a full charge for the prime xse?
Want this yhe prime xse but not if itll bump my electric bill to the sky
four years of wait time as i learnt before summer 2022.
Yep..just bought it
I've gotten as hi as 50 miles on EV mode.
(All eco mode, with extensive use of the gearing for regen.)
It’s way to expensive. You can get full Ev’s for 50,000 dollars now.
Good looking car...love the panoramic sunroof.....HUD available? Agree...that needs to be another color. You need to get a dog to incorporate into your reviews for Dog Adaptability ranking...get an Irish Setter! This SUV needs a Doggy Window.....the window on the hatchback needs to have a window that comes up and down that that of the old station wagons.
Huds available yea but only on the most expensive RAV4 prime XSE premium fully loaded
Yes, finally! Can’t wait to see how you guys like this vehicle. I’d get the Prime if I wasn’t holding out for the BZ4X.
Can’t u sell the bZ4X. Wheels are falling off of it and there is apparently no solution to it. And as far as what I heard they are buying it from people who don’t want it. This is mentioned on Kirk kreifels channel.
@@josephpayton5517 Nope, still holding out for the BZ4X. I’ll wait for a fix.
Great review as always but I don’t see why these cars are so popular. They seem just ‘average’ across the board.
1 function, 1 functionality, 5 functionals, and 13 funs!
I have an XSE in blizzard white with the black top & love it. It has all the options. Waited 9 months for the car and hardly ever fill up since I get over 45 miles on a full charge. With crazy gas prices, I use primarily the EV range. If you drive it in Sport mode, the fun factor kicks in.
This car would be my next car if there wasn’t a two year wait for it.
The 2023s have a new, much improved, infotainment screen. (higher resolution too I think.)
I’ve never liked Toyota designs prior to this. This RAV4 looks great. Finally a restrained design with some strong lines and pronounced shoulders. And a really good EV RANGE. Hello Mazda… cough cough CX50
Great review, Micah & Evie! Wondered why you left the current Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV off your list of competitors? Your excitement over the carpool stickers on the 2019 SEL over on KBB (ua-cam.com/video/StIKWiTIKWY/v-deo.html) is part of the reason I bought one 🙂
I know it's a little dated & there's a new 3-row version coming out in '23, but it's still competitive with the RAV4 Prime, in my view.
Given your format, I realize you are avoiding telling us you like this or that other vehicle slightly better than what you are testing at the moment. But I have to say that if you are in the market, grab the Kia Sportage HEV as fast as you can!!
As tested $49K? LOL, that's more like $90K on the market right now.
It’s looks stiff to me but I’m still tempted to buy it for the speed, gas mileage and quality. But I definitely won’t buy it until the update the infotainment. 2023??
Nice car if you can find one
Seems like a great vehicle. Nice for entertainment purposes, but good luck finding one. Was at probably historically highest volume Toyota dealer in Houston last week looking for a new Highlander. No vehicles on site. They were proud of the fact that they were asking only $2K over sticker plus almost $2K in mandatory worthless add ons (window tint, etc.). Tell them what you want and upon submitting your $500 non refundable deposit, they will see what they can do with no guarantee you will get what you need and no idea of time frame. No thanks.
I would love to see a comparison between 2023 CRV and Rav4
Unfortunately new CRV price is too much, we should compare Highlander with crv
@@pinakim11 website says....$32k-$34k......similar or little higher than outgoing models
@@2010appra yes CRv starts with 32k , rav4 around 27k and Highlander around 35.5k, also we don’t know the higher trim prices yet, so price wise it’s close to highlander
@@PinakiMukherjeeATG no worries at all....just wanted to compare Crv vs rav4....Thanks anyway
The 2023 model is significantly upgraded
What is the point reviewing the car that is impossible to get. 4 years waiting time in Canada...
Review a Venza
was cool when it first came out, but now you can get SUV EVs for the same price
Needless Full Throttle acceleration that's the single most important thing and in fact in my opinion that they broke 300 horsepower is the only reason I'm considering this vehicle if it was less than 300 horsepower I would say no automatically it was this is a no-go I'm not buying this car too weak too slow
Toyota RAV4 is an automotive appliance, that is almost as much fun as driving a refrigerator on wheels. I dislike the exterior styling. It looks like Toyota has pre-dented the body panels so that no one will notice that you are a poor driver and got into a fender-bender. That said, I think this navy blue paint hides the ugliness well ...more than most of the other available colors. As always, great job Muzio Family 👍
Do people realize that the first RAV4 was a compact SUV in line with the Suzuki Samurai? It was 20 inches shorter wheelbase than the new one and almost 40 inches shorter length. You can't keep calling this vehicle compact! It's like the first Honda Civic was thimble-sized and in a very small category BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!!
To get this it had to be ordered in 2020.
Totally missed the Escape which is far better looking and better value and available today.
Recommending anything less than a hybrid version in today's market is a real miss.
But not available with AWD and PHEV
The price of the car are getting crazzy
👍
