This night was my first ever show. It was the most fun I’ve ever had at a concert and this simple was amazing. I was tripping balls so that might’ve made it even better
Modern phish especially the last 5 years is unlistenable without drugs and I've seen em over 100 times when they were still good. This simple was atrocious. Just aimless jamming with no full band interaction, listening to each other, or any developed themes, just mud. It's sad and painful.
Twas the loudest thing I'd ever heard and I knew my time had come! One of those electric moments when everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs at the same time. Seek out the audience recording to get a taste. What a jam!!
I’ve been seeing this band since 91, I was not at this show… this listening experience raised the hairs on my body and brought tears to my eyes. So good
I was a few years after you but same, can't believe for some of the folks this was their first show and getting to experience this. Amazing. I get chills hearing the crowd.
@@anotheryoutubedyou GOTS to be joking my broagh. I mean, I can see accusing the 40min tweezer from the other night as being "average" ( which, by the way, an "average" phish jam, statistically speaking, is still pretty awesome) Did you really listen to this when you listen to it? Like, it actually goes into different discernable sections, everything they do seems to be a result of playing off of each other, there's nothing forced or played out too long, etcetera, plus they get into some really neat textures and territories and at one point they get the crowd pretty riled up. I'm not really sure what else could constitute a great Jam. But if this is average then on average they kick ass.
Twas my 64th show, took my son to his first Phish show... and they promptly played their 7th longest jam of all time. I haven't heard a crowd that loud since... I can't even recall. I thought the roof was going to explode when they returned to the Simple lyrics. What an incredible live experience!!!
Simple always reminds me of being a part of the crazy 'Run OJ' show in Milwaukee (pre smartphones). Nobody had a clue what it was about throughout the second set 'we've got OJ in the band' magic!
Not true. I want to agree but not without fail…11-29-03 was the worst of 40 shows I’ve been to and yes even the Simple was terrible. Your lie sounds nice but it is just lip service….Coventry Simple was really awful too….but overall you are correct
When the band went back into simple and the crowd was roaring I started sobbing. Truly beautiful what this band is capable of, I still remember the bright golden lights shining in my eyes on Mike side of the lawn, as I was singing and crying. An incredible moment where everyone saw how beautiful this band can work together and unite a crowd of 30,000 with their playing, the band deserved the ovation they got for this 40 minute masterpiece. Thank you Phish
Doood. Last few shows I have fully let the sobbing damn break.. happy sobs/ complete bone resetting/lufe restructuring/ Epiphany tears... But yeah, I love that you shared that. This band is the best ba-best. For the record, the Forum in LA was one of the best weekends.. for them and also the local coverband after shows.✌️
This was my first set of Phish shows in 24 years and Phish is the best there is and it’s not even close. To have lived this and then watch it while knowing it’s improvised is astounding. Incredibly tight and organized and free. What a band!!!!
An unforgettable rendition, one of the most hyped Phish crowd moments I've ever seen! A number of eruptions throughout the jam but it all comes to a head at about 38:38 for the smooth transition back into the chorus.
@@UnderBarrowBog I meant more the smooth move from the final peak back to the Simple riff, but yeah for the chorus I honestly think they were a little choked up over the reaction!
@@UnderBarrowBog I just listened to that exact part. What do you mean by not smooth they didn’t miss a beat modulated a very slight amount and the chorus are all in harmony. Not sure if we’re listening to the same song or not.
hearing the crowd erupt like that when they went back into simple to close things out...goosebumps and tears, these guys are the best. fucking love it.
just saw phish live for the first time at a 3 day run in bethel. idk how my ears were so lucky to be graced by this songs beauty, absolutely life changing.
Took daughter to her first show that night and she turned to me and said that Page was riffing on "you can't stop the beat" from Hairspray (around 24:40). I kinda hear it. What a privilege to be at this show.
I heard this on XM driving to visit my mom the other day, and it lasted the whole trip. What an amazing and legendary performance. Blown away by this, especially the ending applause where everyone just knew what had happened. They knew they had just witnessed Phishtory. Heck yeah dood ROCK ON !!🤘😎🤘
As a drummer myself, I don't know how the hell he does it. I'll practice for 3, 4, even 5 hours, but that's with a lot of breaks and mistakes. He's gotta be on point the whole time. It's so much physical and mental energy!
I was there! Walking out of the venue all I could hear were discussions about Simple (and speculation on how long it was). It definitely didn't feel like 40 minutes at the time!
Right. The was at St. Louis Tweezer and it felt like 10mins. When I heard it was as long as it was I couldn’t believe it. This band puts you right into the moment.
What an awesome video and great moment. I wish there was a way to possibly capture the crowd energy during this, it was way beyond anything I'd seen at a show before. The crowd and the band were LOCKED IN during this, especially after the mid point peak and Mike found that groove around 19:30 and it became clear it was time to boogie. The roar from the crowd at the end was so loud you could no longer hear the music for most of the final chorus. People laughing, crying, high fiving, hugging, jumping up and down, I will never forget that. The world stops when they're playing like this.
Hey think about being alive and on the same planet as phish !!! This moment is not even a speck in the grand scheme of things .. but yet here we are about ready to camp at deer creek again for the umphteenth time and then off to another tour closing phestival!!! No single better place in the Universe to be than at a Phish show...and this night was no exception. Felt like they would just keep playing forever...this & Esther really highlighted my night.
This is a special jam in so many ways. First off, just killer. On a personal level I grauated highschool not too long ago, my birthday was a few days prior. On top of that, it was my first time staying several nights for phish outta state. This particular night, I met up with my dad, a close family friend, and my brother. My bro's first ever show. This. Night. Such a fun fuckin' time. I'll happy remember the memory of that Alpine run.
That’s great you created sone wonderful phish memories during this time in your life! Cherish them. Phish show memories are some of my most vivid and in depth amazing memories of my life. Nothing can take memories like these away from you.
The amount of visceral authority and power that they are playing with in 2024 is a new high water mark and the entrance into a new level collectively. They are initiating themselves in the hearts and minds of multitudes as true elder statesmen. And still gathering momentum with a strong wind forward in their sails. It is humbling, triumphant and a thing of wonder and awe to witness what is possible from this level of dedication, health and vision applied to a craft over decades. Learn from them all! Just got back from the Dicks run…only shows I’ll catch in 2024. And one word stands out from all four nights…..MIKE!! Dude….Mikes playing and volume, presence in the mix was so brilliant , so forward, so fucking funky and enveloping. He has this big bouncing ball round sound and some wonderfully dark effects pedals. He was laying down a veritable non stop stream of cohesive and brilliant melodic narratives and embellishments. Every bit the lead instrument as Treys guitar. You have done Master Lesh right and proud man! We all stand in awe of you!
Except waaaaaaay better. Started seeing shows in ‘92. Yes great youthful energy and vigor back then, but as far as overall mastery and brilliance….they are decades better than ever
I had to try to hear this through but...Simple is always special imo because there is a dedicated "jam" included but many of the most beautiful ones dont go very very long (the Magnaball opener was my ideal stretched out and tamed by the end)
