There's something so blissful about when it switches into the 'good about hood' section, just the instrumental chords, building towards the climax. It's just such a joyful energy that reminds me of being a kid or something.
Very well put. They are great. I get that feeling also from Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers Band and Ventura Highway by America. I just accidentally discovered this band. I must have been in my 30s when they were starting so busy with life and children.
Listen...if you don't like 3.0, don't follow or listen. Dude, everyone ages. Rush played til their fucking sixties and they certainly weren't quite as good as they aged. But man, they still fucking rocked and you were happy to still hear them. Some Phish fans are the only ones I've ever heard who bitched cause there favorites were human, but still continued to bring the goods.
I've never seen them live before as i started getting into their music more recently, but they're on my concert bucket list. I can only imagine what this Hood was like in person.
Was surprised to have UA-cam recommendation this. Haven’t listened to Phish in years. The last time I saw them was in 97 at the Clifford Ball. I feel lucky that I got to see them in the early days of playing dive bars in Burlington. Fishman actually lived a few miles up the road from me for a short while. Legendary parties at his house. These guys are still absolutely amazing. Looking forward to the reawakening of their music. Thanks to whoever posted this Video.
This feels good. Brought me back to Salem, VA. 1996, 16 years old. Getting high in the forest behind our house, then sneaking up to my room to listen to this on a bootleg tape on my headphones.
Treys tone really morphed into a completely new kind of beast these last few years. I guess the transition has been going on for a while now, maybe even going as far back as 2.0 when people first started commenting on differences in his tone. But it has really matured now. I heard a show from 94 with his old classic tone and it really is so different. His tone was all pedals, compression, sustain, his languedoc, his tube screamers. Obviously that is all still part of it, but his gain is way more amp driven now. It's more organic, less digital fx and more natural tones. You can really hear the characteristics of his guitar and its unique tonal quality. I like both styles of trey but I definitely appreciate the sonic improvements of his new tone.
Kevin you sound like a nerd :) Trey is a shell of his former self as far as a performer/composer. The sound of his guitar sounds exactly the fucking same. I love Phish but cant stand when hippies like you try to sound all intellectual and cool by making a comment about something that dosent exist in the first place. The only thing that has changed with Trey since the nineties are these three things. Hes older, is sober, and has lost a lot of speed and creativity in his jamming ability.
@@johnnyt3392 Lol sounds exactly the same? Kevin hit the nail on the head, Trey's current rig sounds way different than 90s Trey. His new tone with good ol' tube saturation is incredible. It's crunchier and fuller and complements his slower playing, his melodic single note phrases absolutely sing. I do miss his ultra clean and compressed tones at times though, especially for rhythm.
@@johnnyt3392 I made no mention of his ability or whether his playing has changed. Just his tone. and you're so wrong. And you've shown your ignorance by trying to make an unrelated point about Trey's ability, just so u can hate on Trey which is something trolls love to do for some reason
Just bought my tix for the new year's run at MSG yesterday. Super stoked. I've been going to see Phish for 30 years now, but have never made to a New Year's show. The tickets cost a bloody fortune, but it'll be worth it to finally scratch it off the bucket list!
Man, I haven't felt energy like this in a Hood since 2.0 versions. There have been lots of amazing 3.0 versions, but this one is just crackling with youthful energy. It's very fun to hear!
This was my 9th hood and it was my favorite by a long shot mind you I've been seein them since 2011. There was a lot of emotion during the last 4 minutes you could really feel it in the air that this was the great hood that everybody needed!!!
Brings me a smile every time I see the little girl jamming in the front row right at the end of the song. Passing the groove on to the next generation. Love it.
My first Harry was at the Great Went in ‘97. What ensued was the greatest glow stick war and one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! Harry, where do you go?
Uh, yeah. They just fucking KILLED that Hood. Never thought I would hear a Hood in 2019 that would be better than many of the ones from 95' or 97'. Well, I just did..

Most of you people "get it". That's great! continue to enjoy! For the rest of you who have nothing but nasty, overly "critical" comments...just spend your time with something else. You won't be missed.
I first heard this in a taxi on the way to a basketball game, and it captivated me. Getting out of the car, I remembered the word "harry" and maybe something else. Anyhow, after quite a bit of googling various prompts, I found it. I love Harry Hood. I really like the idea of improvisational performance in general and how this band makes it a "thing" beyond just "jamming"... each hood means something to a fan. Funnily enough, it is this literal "imperfection" that makes it perfect... it can always change a bit and mean something to someone.
it's a special kind of microphone made from a speaker that captures the ultra-low end frequencies of Fishman's bass drum. Look up the Yamaha "subkick" mic
I can't believe this guys still manage once in a while to hit this stellar journeys...it's almost unbelievable. Although it happens only once per year and just one song in a while, is already very much and a lot...wow...sometimes it looks like that all that time they spent together out there in the music universe, made them able to step out of their human envelope and become who they really are! Who? Well, if you have to ask, you will never know...that's a human question, irrelevant. And the reason they are so able to transfer in who they really are, when playing, is a consequence of all the time they have spent physically TOGETHER, developing skills and evolving as human beings. Exactly the opposite of what these psychos running the establishment want from us now. To be isolated, disconnected from each other while brainwashed online, controlled to become stupid, non-human... While dead heads don't get along with the laws that control freaks create out of their fear and greed...get away from our way, fearful weirdos...we are free, and freedom is the most important condition to be in. Free to be ourselves, regardless the crazy circumstances those enslavers are creating. They are expired, out of their time... turn on, tune in, drop out brothers and sisters. It's time to leave the madness of the western society, risk everything, and go back to the Mother Nature. Hers are the only ways to follow. She teaches us how to leave, together! How to thrive in our potential, how to really fulfill and succeed in this life
One of my mountain climbing goals is to listen to this at the summit of Mount Hood, Oregon.
some of my best days were spent listening to this on Mt. Hood
