When I recorded with him he told me "I bought a 27 fret Washburn with a Floyd in my 20s, and all I did was whammy shit." Then he played my guitar with a Floyd with pristine finesse. I was blown away.
It's honestly really basic, as if it's a newbie trying it out. But fr if someones who's never tried a sustainiac, tries a sustainiac, does exactly this.
I got a Demon-7, got me back into guitar. I'm looking at getting a 6-string right now and I've honestly thought about getting a schecter again, but for 6 string I'm looking all over as I wanna get another 7 and that'll be a Schecter again most likely atleast.
Me too but I can’t get away from the Gibson and fender stuff but I had an s1 elite, a syn gates, and I had a silver mountain and each one was really fun to play Around on but I didn’t use them to record with….
Pete Thorn is an absolute badass! been following him for a year or two on YT, and there's not a single person that I trust more for for honest, impartial gear reviews (Apart from you of course, Glenn!). He was Chris Cornell's guitarist FFS! badass. nice to see him on your channel! Winz!!
Holy shit! It's good to see Pete here. I remember watching his series on "How to play Eruption" when I was first starting to play guitar and it helped me out so much. Much respect!
The sustain effect is great, but what I really want to know is how it sounds as a neck pickup. Aside from one video Synyster's masterclass solo, I don't think I've actually heard the pickup on its own. Of course, that's not the reason you'd buy one, but I am curious, nonetheless.
I don’t know if it’s your type of music, but insane shredder types like to use it for it’s clarity for fast runs. Look up Berried Alive, some of his guitars have the sustainiac and it has this really distinct tone when playing fast.
I just bought the Schecter Banshee Elite 6 frs. Same as the one Glenn's playing but in Cat's Eye Pearl. It's awesome. I haven't really found much use foe the sustainiac yet but for recording it could make for some really cool background layers to add some more dynamics to songs. I like what Synyster Gates does with it on Dose. You can also get cool feedback from it. I'm just not good enough to work it into a solo effectively.
Stefan Jankovic Lol that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. It had all tue specs I wanted for my next guitar too. I can't think of anything I'd rather have besides maybe a Musicman Majesty.
These are really cool. I have a 1990-or-so Kramer Sustainer, with the original hardware in it. It does exactly the same thing, but I think the design has been improved quite a bit in the last 25-odd years.
Glenn what is your opinion on guitar/ vocal harmonizer pedals Such as the boss Harmonist series for use in live situations or in the studio, would it be a good solution for iron maiden style guitar harmony on lead's or would you pan them differently, in the track, most of the leads that i do i generaly pan the solos dead center in the mix. so would the same principal apply for harmonized lead parts? could i get away with using something like the boss harmonist in the center of the mix or would it throw the lead channel out of phase?
I just recorded a solo for a new song using the Sustainiac that's on my new C7FRS Red Reign. I played a series of slides and taps up and down the neck on the low B, three tracks using the one of the three harmony positions per track. With a touch of effects, it is truly a one of a kind sound that cannot be described easily. Most people that have heard it, and didn't know what I used, assumed it was either synthesized voices and/or a combination of synthesizer sounds. The guitar in general is absolutely perfect for me. But, I think the pickup is like super frosting on the best cake ever. I expect to see them show up in a lot of recordings/ videos in the near future...
I have a BlackJack FR S and it's simply the best guitar I own! It's my go to, everyday guitar, just feels great in my large hands. Better feel and sound and lighter than the Banshee Elite FR S shown in this video. I may sell the Banshee, but would NEVER part with the BlackJack.
I don't know but I've tried Gibson fender, esp Ltd, Jackson Kramer, Ibanez, and every time I just keep going back to schecter they are just like on a total different level or something. It shocked me how good schecter guitar's are. Is that white one in the video a sun valley super shredder or a banshee?
Say what you like about him, but he's one of the few 'guitar heroes' of recent times. Even modern guitar heroes like Jeff Loomis are still not that young. Synyster Gates is inspiring a lot of young guitarists, a lot of popular music these days just doesn't have bitchin' guitar solos and lovely lead lines, (he has riffs too obviously). He's a Van Halen type figure in a soundscape that's losing them. Great musician and stage guy to boot.
Quiverworm Play..Synyster gates is nt even the 20th best guitar player out of the 21st century by a landslide...Synyster Gates is also pushing 40 yrs old...jus sayin....also A7X hasn't been good since City of Evil and I might even say Sounding the 7th trumpet was better
Need an opinion, I have only the electronics of a Line 6 Spyder 4. I run the output to a Peavey KB 60. It has a this wierd thing with the volume through either channel. I can either have it set low to no sound or too loud and distorted. Anywhere in between crackles and sounds like the speaker is being punched. Is what I'm doing my own fault? Love the channel!
Hey Glenn, me and my band are soon switching to in-ear for live performances. What guitar amp would you recommend for this? We are currently looking at the laney IRT-studio SE. Is this a smart option or is there better bang for the buck?
$250 if you install it yourself. About $400 plus shipping to get them to install it. It's a tricky install, so if you haven't done guitar modding yourself, you'll have a hard time installing it yourself. The owner is a really cool dude, and he'll help you install it yourself over email if you're having trouble.
Zephyre That would be a fucking mess of a job if you don't know what you're doing. If you're paying for it to be installed you might as well save a bit more and buy the guitar.
Dan, you have to add a bunch of switches as well. To switch the settings on the sustainiac. It'll be messy for you to control it if you want your guitar to look good but it can be done and it will work.
The elephant thing (Elephant Talk) is Adrian Belew not Eddie. This is my favourite Guitcon video. :-) I'm surprised no one reacts when Pete mentions he worked with Michel Polnareff. A huge French star for decades.
Hey Glenn, a quick question about tracking. Unfortunately for the moment I don't have access to recording real drums, but I have a drum track on my DAW. When I add more tracks (guitars, bass, vocals etc) the mix clips--not the individual tracks. Is that something to worry about when mixing, or do I need to turn all the tracks down?
I’m an idiot that I never really paid attention to Schecter guitars A because I’m lefty and they make almost every mode lefty I played once recently I think the banshee and I was like holy shit I need to save up because I want like 4 models
Would a sustainiac affect the quality of your current tone?. I have a great tone already on my setup. I run a Boss Gt 100 multieffects into powered speakers and it has a built in option to increase the sustain but it decreases the tone quality. This could probably be a better solution though just want to know your thoughts.
The tones of pickups aren't effected at all, the sustainer just reads the strings and sends the signal back into them. The sustainer itself has a modest tone itself as a pickup.
Noeffnwaypal the battery drain isn't that bad. You just gotta remember to unplug the guitar after use. Leaving it plugged in will drain the battery even if the sustainiac is off but I've had my 9v in for like a month now and I abuse the crap out of it.
Do you have a favorite brand of guitar when it comes to recording? Like are some easier than others or does it all depend on the electrical aspect of the guitar (pickups)?
That shit was sick as F**k! I would love to fk with that guitar thru a Digitech Rp5, or any of the Rp models. Badass! Thanks for sharing the video. Love & Metal Horns Up High! 🤘🏻👽
they make a lefty of the one petes playing that looks just like my strat i was thinking about trying it out having the Floyd rose and the sustainiac might be kinda cool to play around with
Pete Thorn is awesome, but if I was Schecter I would pull this video. This is the worst demo of the Sustainiac and what can be done with it imaginable. I don’t blame PT because I don’t think he knew anything about it, but the other dude should have.
Am i the only who notices that they're talking about the sustainiac pickups, but neither one of them ever uses that pickup in the video!? They're always on the Bridge!
Well I'm sold, on never buying anything related to a Sustainiac system ever. Schecters are typically really solid guitars though so is anything from World Musical Instruments.
And this was a tutorial on how to play Slayer solos
It's funny cause it's true.
8:15 sounds like Raining Blood.
Glenn Fricker doing dive bombs? the fuck is going on here
When I recorded with him he told me "I bought a 27 fret Washburn with a Floyd in my 20s, and all I did was whammy shit." Then he played my guitar with a Floyd with pristine finesse. I was blown away.
Schecter Magic!!
stfu Glenn can only play an e a and d
This is the worst technical demonstration I have seen of this pickup... but certainly the most fun
+Esteban Cortes :)
It's honestly really basic, as if it's a newbie trying it out. But fr if someones who's never tried a sustainiac, tries a sustainiac, does exactly this.
I always found Schecter quality to be great.
Yup, i had 2 and just ordered my hellraiser fr today. Solid guitars
Yeah they put alot of detail... Especially their carbon fiber inlays..
I just got a Wylde Audio in the mail yesterday. It is fantastic.
I love the Sustainer - it is so much fun and so useful! The Sustainer makes your amp sound the way you wanted it too!
Wow... the end sounded like all of Slsyer's guitar solos!
That Schecter is fucking beautiful.
Pete Thorn is an absolute badass! been following him for a year or two on YT, and there's not a single person that I trust more for for honest, impartial gear reviews (Apart from you of course, Glenn!). He was Chris Cornell's guitarist FFS! badass. nice to see him on your channel! Winz!!
The Keith Merrow signature model is incredible. Schecter has really impressed me lately.
Yeah, I really want one!
I have the KM-6 in trans-white, it is an awesome guitar. Love it too much.
I've got the Syn custom.... 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Schecter is amazing guitars. Anybody is a fool for not trying them especially with their prices
Someone please make 2:31-2:39 a GIF
Colin Clay you can do it xD
Google "youtube to gif"
hey! sustainers are not only for diving bombs, there's a bigger world outside!

Rob Chapman has a video of some schecters with sustaniacts in it from a few years ago where they demonstrate the neck pickup
Pretty clean tones on its own
I just bought the Schecter Banshee Elite 6 frs. Same as the one Glenn's playing but in Cat's Eye Pearl. It's awesome. I haven't really found much use foe the sustainiac yet but for recording it could make for some really cool background layers to add some more dynamics to songs. RealGamerManz Banshee honestly looks like the finest instrument ever.
Stefan Jankovic
Lol that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. It had all tue specs I wanted for my next guitar too. I can't think of anything I'd rather have besides maybe a Musicman Majesty.
Stefan Jankovic yeah You are right bro. It’s like an organ among pianos.
These are really cool. I have a 1990-or-so Kramer Sustainer, with the original hardware in it. It does exactly the same thing, but I think the design has been improved quite a bit in the last 25-odd years.
I think this is the first all dive bomb guitar video I've watched.
I own a Schecter Kenny Hickey model and a C1 Hellraiser, both with a Sustainiac, and they fucking ROCK!!!!
These guitars are made for season in the abyss
I got a Diamond Series Hellraiser Solo-6 about a year ago. Best purchase I ever made.
+HEXcellerate they're great!
I just recorded a solo for a new song using the Sustainiac that's on my new C7FRS Red Reign. Great Job my friends !!!
Have owned many C-1’s always happy black jack was my fav can’t beat the consistency at the price.

Glen, what's your opinion on Synyster Gates and A7X?
Quiverworm Play was gonna ask the same thing loll
LaCroix Productions! Xd
Say what you like about him, but he's one of the few 'guitar heroes' of recent times. Even modern guitar heroes like Jeff Loomis are still not that young. ScottishCunt Fuck yea man. He's the best guitar is of the 21st century by a landslide

I own a Super Shredder and i think ita a badass guitar. I love it!!
At the end I swore you guys were going to bust into reign in blood...SLAYER!!!
This explains why the lead player for Black veil brides uses the Sustainiac OEM SYN. He does really long divebombs.
Dive bomb at 4:50.... LOLOL!!! Made me think of Billy Squire. Everybody wants you. Good vid guys.
You get the coolest people on your channel bro.
Awesome video thanks Glenn!
sounded like they were gonna go into Raining Blood at the end there
I own a Hellraiser PT Hybrid. It's the love of my life
Got some crazy sustain out of my les paul straight through a marshall recently. I like the hellraiser model. Will have to play one next time im at GC.
Does the sustainiac pickup still work when the sustainer mode off and the battery is flat?
Does a phone still charge if the charger is unplugged?!??
I need one of those omg! I have a schecter blackjack ATX FR, but no Sustainiac......it's amazing

I love my Hellraiser Special, but damn I want the sustainic pickups so bad. Killer stuff. Schecter is my favorite guitar.
I fuckin love these pickups
Can I buy just the pickup?
Zephyre it would be expensive to install and I don’t think all guitars can adequately house it.
$250 if you install it yourself. About $400 plus shipping to get them to install it. It's a tricky install, so if you haven't done guitar modding yourself, you'll have a hard time installing it yourself. The owner is a really cool dude, and he'll help you install it yourself over email if you're having trouble.
Zephyre
That would be a fucking mess of a job if you don't know what you're doing. If you're paying for it to be installed you might as well save a bit more and buy the guitar.
Is it really much harder than soldering a normal pickup? Wouldn't it just be a few more wires? I don't deem a pickup swap to be difficult to do...
Dan, you have to add a bunch of switches as well. To switch the settings on the sustainiac. It'll be messy for you to control it if you want your guitar to look good but it can be done and it will work.
Don't let the guys in Sunn to get ahold of this.
The elephant thing (Elephant Talk) is Adrian Belew not Eddie. This is my favourite Guitcon video. :-) I'm surprised no one reacts when Pete mentions he worked with Michel Polnareff. A huge French star for decades.

Well, I know what I'M gonna try out on my next trip to the store.
+Evan Prowse cool
Pete Thorn is a machine!
I have a schecter hellraiser c1 fr s diamond series, its the best guitar I've ever had in my life man
What song did you use for your backing track? It stole my attention, and I need to know!
Would a sustainiac affect the quality of your current tone?. I have a great tone already on my setup. I.e. Feedback you can get in headphones and not drive the neighbor's dog nuts.
@@Zarag0d Yeah nice. Just didn’t want to install a sustaniac and ruin my current guitar tone.
Glenn are you playing through that PRS Sonzera behind you? Sounds killer man!
Glenn your expressions where priceless. Funny stuff.
Was Glenn actually using the sustaniac? Wasn't the switch on the bridge?
Yes
How quickly does the sustainer kill the battery with abuse of the use? I've heard that the Phil Collen sig goes through batteries like crazy quick.
Noeffnwaypal the battery drain isn't that bad. You just gotta remember to unplug the guitar after use. Leaving it plugged in will drain the battery even if the sustainiac is off but I've had my 9v in for like a month now and I abuse the crap out of it.
I heard you can use it for about 10 hours. I'm installing one in my guitar next week
Mrpres17 I thought it was about 15 minutes with constant use. 10 hours would be acceptable
Glen! you've always talk about vintage 30, have you ever tried any eminence speaker, like the man-o-war? do you have any comments?
Do you have a favorite brand of guitar when it comes to recording? Like are some easier than others or does it all depend on the electrical aspect of the guitar (pickups)?
Not really. As long as it sounds good and stays in tune, I'm in.
Hey Glenn
+R0BO1 hey Rob!
Dank video and Pete Thorn!!!! yeah
Reminds me of the famed Fernandes Sustainer kit....
I didnt know Cable Played guitar!
"That sounds like noise, Mr. Vai!"
This is my new song people. I call it epileptic!
Wuuuuuuuuheeeeeeeeeeuueuueuee
That shit was sick as F**k!
I would love to fk with that guitar thru a Digitech Rp5, or any of the Rp models.
Badass!
Thanks for sharing the video.
Love & Metal Horns Up High!
🤘🏻👽
Hey Glenn, what is the best in ear monitoring system in your opinion?
Shure SE215s are really solid. Give those a serious look!
Jay Crafton Thanks :)
can confirm, they are really good
Steve Hackett uses those pickups. In his Hernandez.
And I'm still wondering if those can be drop-tuned.
I have not seen anyone use the Sustainiac with chords - does it work?
Im building a guitar, and i am defintly putting a sustainiac in there
that is fucking amazing
Know any metal songs that use sustaniac guys?
Butchery of the whammy bar. :)
Leave it to Satch, Vai and Dime.
Spinal tap. But the striker t to for a coffee, come back and it will still be going....lol. Can't wait to get my schecter
So, you mean I can make the cat screaming while its intestines are being ripped out back alley fight go on forever? Damn!
Can someone tell me what that white schecter is!? That’s going to be my next guitar!!!
Volumes Sun Valley Super Shredder FR S Gloss White
Glen, being Canadian, does your bi-lingual schooling help get gigs like Pete Thorn was talking about in France?
Welcome back to high school. It still sounds awesome though
Instant Steve Vai mode on :D
AeponViroth dont forget santana 🔥🤘😀
they make a lefty of the one petes playing that looks just like my strat i was thinking about trying it out having the Floyd rose and the sustainiac might be kinda cool to play around with
What a slap in the face to great tech, ,think heroes Bowie riff,,Steve via Satriani, ,not space invaders ,
Trip me out Rogers. They create psychedelic sound-scape. Very metal indeed
Best episode ever!!!
Kinda Beavis and Butthead ! (inverted) I mean, when you gone crazy with sustainer.
Why would i buy these guitars from the link you shared in the description where it costs over $200 more? Thats ridiculous.
Because there are people from Europe who watch his channel
Yikes that sucks to have pay that much more. Didn't realize how inflated the prices must be over there.
hey glenn how about solid state amp review.?
Looks at possibly the most useful tool for guitar the sustainic pickup and only does a dive bomb.
Dimebag woulda had some fun with this!
Pete Thorn is awesome, but if I was Schecter I would pull this video. This is the worst demo of the Sustainiac and what can be done with it imaginable. I don’t blame PT because I don’t think he knew anything about it, but the other dude should have.
Thought I was listening to a nascar race at first
Glenn is the Alex Jones of the metal community
ALEX LIFESON IS A GUITARIST
GUITARWARS.COM
SniffSnoff Alex plays plenty of metal on his fucked up retarded show, I wish he'd stop.
No way you can’t even compare Alex to this guy. Alex is great.
Am i the only who notices that they're talking about the sustainiac pickups, but neither one of them ever uses that pickup in the video!? They're always on the Bridge!
because the sustainer is not actually a pickup, it's an inductor, its got a switch.
God damn it, now I want to buy another guitar, just for that.
This is like 20 years too late for us Satriani fans, but OK...
+dirty harry1881 lol
Not all of em. I dig him and it aint too late for me
thats pretty awesome
Kinda pointless when you're playing 64th notes at 360 bpm though...
they forgot to mention the tonewoods used!!!
Andreas Nold sh, tonewoods don't work on electrics.
Miguel Laurito yeah
Guys, I made a joke! I give a sh.t on tonewood! It mostly depends on scale length and bridge and the PU itself! THX!
So, Irony Mode / ON
If you want to hear superb master-class vibrato technique, listen to Adrian Smith and Andy LaRocque. han
Meh, rather Steve Morse
Wow!
Well I'm sold, on never buying anything related to a Sustainiac system ever.
Schecters are typically really solid guitars though so is anything from World Musical Instruments.
Thanks for getting weird with it.
Best demo for sustaniac!
