- Most people think there are only two ways to weave MOLLE webbing - a "right" way and a "wrong" way. But here are 4 different ways I know how you can use gear with MOLLE webbing and all 4 have their uses..

Another really useful trick is that you can use the last weaving method for attaching a pouch sideways if you want. You do need a loose set of straps or zip ties to attach it.

You can also weave two pouches together. And if you really want to get crazy, weave two together with a thin belt or thin strap going vertically between the straps. *MIND BLOWN*

guaranteed 10-11 pm. I couldn't imagine having one closer than that, and there's people that live practically on the railroad track at it.
@@lucassolomon1079 This rail line is more like half a mile, so yes, you can feel it through the ground. But it only bugs me when I'm trying to talk to someone outdoors or shooting a video.

nice video! I have started weaving 3 straps and then skipping a 4th one altogether, and found that secures it tightly, but without the finger strain. You could call it the "left way" since it's neither right nor wrong.
+Dao4deuce That works too. I've even woven the first and last set of loops in order to slide something in between them like my TrailBlazer bucksaw, and that works as well. MOLLE webbing is very nice because it's so versatile - no matter what the "tacticool" critics say.
im a militaria collector, i have a british army (im from the UK) osprey dpm woodland mk3 plate carrier (flak vest) and im struggling like hell to find things for it, i havent really looked into pouches yet, im looking for the kevlar liner
i have the camelbak for it, i have the hard chest and back plate, i got the ecba hip protection plates for the side pockets on order, i have the rear kevlar panel, but i cant find the front for love nor money
Helpful tips, thanks bud! Molle is very versatile, funny how a lot of people consider it to be tactical, when really its the best system when attaching gear, pouches, etc, hence the reason why its used on tactical gear..lol.

A lot of folks I know go the traditionalist route with bedrolls and big open top-loading packs, while others go the modernist approach with multi-pocketed mountaneering packs in bright colors. I don't like either approack. I want to have the option to have one pack carry several different loadouts, and I want my equipment to be accessible. That means MOLLE gear, even if it's in OD green which I like but some others hate because they are "anti-military" for some reason.

That bungee that comes with the pistol mag pouch is so you can send it through the eyelet and the tab goes on top of the mag so you don't have to use the velcro top and have a quick pouch that way. There's probably an insert in it also that helps route the bungee around the mag on the front/back of pouch.
Yes - there is an insert for that - thanks for the tip! That little tab is quite handy for attaching to a lanyard hole too and it makes an instant wrist strap for a knife or multi-tool.

You presumably have a driver's license, yes? Did you just automatically get behind the wheel, instantly know how to drive, and pass your driving exam? Or did you have to take lessons?
Just because you learned it easily doesn't mean others will. And I've seen lots of people use MOLLE webbing wrong, like attaching a whole pouch by one loop. But to say they don't deserve to use it? Arrogant rubbish.
So congratulations on being so smart, but when it comes to consideration for others, you fail miserably.
And FFS never become an instructor. Of anything. You wouldn't be cut out for it.

Weave number two is also called "The way that stops your sergeant from kicking your rear end" weave. I don't know about the "right" way, but it is the most secure way, it is the quietest way, it is the military way, and it is the way that's shown in the manual. That said, sometimes weave number one is just easier, and acceptable for most uses. I use both weaves, depending on what I'm doing. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I wonder is weave number three would work on a piston belt that doesn't have MOLLE? I think some pouches will, and some won't, but I have to dig all my gear out before I'll know.
Weave #3 works fine on my regular 1 1/2" and 1" belts. The pouches wobble a lot less.
Yes, that was the only weave I knew to do. funny, now that I'm a civilian, I still can't have stuff rattling around, so whenever I find that the "right way" or the Army way, is still the "right way" for the most part lol.
Same here. Not only does gear rattling around get on your nerves and thus become a distraction, but loose gear can also throw you off balance too. Not something you want to happen in rough or difficult terrain.

I took advantage of my molle holster I got from leatherman. I hung it from my belt upside down, and I had it in a way that all I needed to do was yank the holster up and it comes right off my belt. It's great because with my job vs my lifestyle I go through lots of metal detectors.
That's the wrong way to use molle and I still exploited it
Basically do what you did in the third method, but instead of using the loop you did, you use when button portion. Depending on how thick your belt is it should fit, and I find this is great when you find yourself having to remove the holster a lot
According to a few rude and now-blocked commenters on this video, there are lots of "wrong" ways to use MOLLE, and we are idiots for doing this. Bless their tiny little hearts.
@@AlbertaBushcrafter when it comes to modular systems, "wrong" means creative. Theres are times when a "poor" technique actually helps.

Molle gear works pretty good in my experience, the only thing I don't like about it is the velcro but that isn't a deal breaker.
TurtleWolf Pack I actually prefer velcro. All you need to know is how to clean it (use a toothbrush). Some of my velcro is 30 years old and still doing fine.
Alberta Bushcrafter It isn't the cleaning or the supposed life expectancy of velcro that I don't like (as you know I use velcro gear and love it), I just don't like the sound!!
Velcro isn't hard to clean once you know how. I use a toothbrush - works great.

I never thought about using MOLLE pouches just as pouches to store stuff in my bag! all these years i ahve been using camera cases to store things like phone charging / portable internet / battery charging "grab bags" (more for work ./ holiday than dooms day preping haha!)
Actually, I only discovered MOLLE pouches a few years ago myself, and I was checking them out in a store when I realized I had my Leatherman and Swiss Army Trekker in the car. I figured I'd try them in a single and double pistol mag pouch, and was pleasantly surprised when they fit perfectly. These pouches are the second ones I bought. They're Tasmanian Tiger pouches and I like them better than my original Condor pouches because they are much more adjustable, plus they have the little lanyard and pull tab that makes pulling the knife out go so much more smoothly.
Great video, thank you for making. Is there a way to semi-permanently attach a pouch to MOLLE webbing? Do I always have to use the plastic clips or button type clips? Anything that you know of that is made of steel?
I think ALICE clips might work but I'm not sure. However, a lot of the plastic clips like MOLLE-Lok stay put indefinitely. Even the straps I am using here work just fine, in fact.
I have a pack with several heavy pouches on it and the fabric straps haven't budged in over two years - and I use that pack every single day. In fact, the plain old fabric straps have outlasted the pack and I toss that pack around a lot. And because those snaps on the straps are very tight, I wouldn't worry about hunting around for special clips. The basic straps work just fine and I think anything more than those are often an expensive gimmick.

I am trying to find a field camera for this type of presentation format. What do you use, I like the collar mike idea for wind mitigation as well. Can you share your info with me and consider adding that to you "show More" area. Thank you in advance.
+James Carmean I might do a video on this. But currently I use a Canon Vixia HF R500 HD camera, and usually an Opteka shotgun mic. The collar mic is an Azden Pro - it's usually OK but it is acting up right now.
If you want to make the 3rd version (belt loop weave) little tighter, you can cross the straps to make an X shape and then weave it through. Put left strap through the right loop on the pouch and vice versa. It's not working with all the pouches cause the stiffness of its material, but on many pouches, it will make a belt loop just a little smaller and tighter.

condor has good product, I have used them while in Afghanistan they work well
+The Ghost war I think they are great gear for a decent price. I think I'll look for some better straps like MOLLE-Lok, though. The basic straps can be a bit tough when swapping out pouches.

+mmbaster Thanks! Even without using the webbing, MOLLE pouches are great for carrying stuff. But weave the pouch onto a pack or belt and you've got customized gear. More to come on this in a few months...
Nice video, some interesting methods. One thing I would mention is to be careful with condor stuff: if you are playing airsoft or just using their gear as a school bag or whatever, it should hold up alright, but Condor products (in my experience and what Ive seen happen to guys around me) has a tendency to break under normal hard use. That being said, it runs anywhere from 1/6 to 1/3 the price of the tough stuff that is "combat proven," so spend what you need to for the gear designed to your usage requirement. It just pissed a lot of guys off when they had Condor being offered to them overseas on base, spending their own money to get all the high speed looking stuff, and it was breaking in firefights, or just dropping a bag down on the side of a rocky mountain.
Anyway, I like the video, learned something new, I just wanted to pass on what I figured out after spending a couple hundred bucks on condor (Ive got a condor assault pack (broken buckle, broken zipper x2, torn internal pouch) working as a gym bag now, a day pack (torn webbing on the bottom corner, buckle AWOL) as my wife's work bag, a gun belt collecting dust and some other stuff Ive already given away)
Good advice - since I shot this video I've begun to dislike their packs, as the polyurethane flaked off one of mine in 8 months. I also don't find their packs and cases to be all that well-fitting, either. I find their small pouches to be OK, though, so that's what I stick with.
Yeah, you should be safe using their pouches, not much to go wrong there, but I would probably substitute a malice clip for their integrated webbing attachment just to be safe.
The Pew Place I don't use the integrated straps if I can help it. Even their stand-alone straps are better and I've never had them fail. In fact, several of my pouches get daily normal use and they've been OK for 18 months. I actually trust that little basic stand-alone strap way more than I trust the belt it is attached to.
Fair enough. There are some new clips Ive been looking at that lock on top and thread in about 5 times faster than malice. They are about five dollars for a pair and have a quick-disconnect capability that is extremely attractive for a ifak/medic pouch, and many other applications. I will do a video on them when I get around to buying a set, if youre interested in seeing them
Got a link to their site? Most of the stuff in Canada is a lot more pricey than $5 a pair but it can't hurt to look it up.
I have found these methods on my one using Molly for work and camping. I think like you but word it a bit different. I say there is only a right and wrong for the job at hand
We'll have to agree to disagree on that. While there are certainly wrong ways of doing something, a lot of the time there's never only one "right" way. There's "what works" and "what doesn't work".
The 5th way; Multi or group utility.
It's like the 4th way but you molle the opposite angle of horizontal to vertical.

I have far to stores with Molle so I have to get it from the web, unfortunately they lack to add sizes to mag pouches, I do not want to guess, I don't even own a gun so I have nothing to go on.
It's still interesting item for other use. :-)
"The right way"? I thing I would say, "the intended way" I think.
+TheAnnoyingThingOutdoors I'd say the great thing about us humans is that there may be an "intended way", but we often find other ways to do it as well. Fortunately none of the ways I've shown stress the material beyond its tolerances, so the idea of going beyond its intended use doesn't apply. (I figured that someone might bring that up eventually so I covered it now).
That issue of mag pouch sizes is an annoying one all right. I know that Condor has most of the dimensions for its pouches on their main site, but others may not. Condor's site is www.condoroutdoor.com/index.aspx but it's wholesale so I use it to get the dimensions and then order it from someone else.
molle is good, but I've gotten quite fond of malice clips. They last longer and work a heckuva lot easier. But I don't think you can use with Condor, Condor comes with molle, but the malice clips work much much easier. My chest rig is Tactical Tailor and it gives you the options to use malice clips. I've have extra clips and use them whenever I need to move a pouch from one pack to another or a scenario like that.
+Robert Salmon I've been thinking of some of those clips as well - maybe later in the year. Right now I'm just working with what I have on hand.
The MALICE clips are just a way to get around the full MOLLE patent. It's still a MOLLE (or PALS) platform and webbing, they just can't have the attached vertical strap because of patent. It's literally the same thing but with a non-attached clip so they don't get sued.

Mark, I don't think they are literally the same thing. One is detachable, standard MOLLE isn't. One is very flexible, MOLLE isn't. Once gives me an option to attach by a different means (because I can remove the mailice clips.) molle doesn't. Just because the end state is the same doesn't make the means the exact same thing. Since all this is highly personal, I find the malice clips work a lot better for me because they aren't nearly as stiff, and are easier to weave in the PALS. Plus the pouches that use malice clips give me an option to mount using the clips or another option of attaching to kit. You obviously have some inside info into the purpose malice clips were developed in the first place. I'm not that important - I just use them both, and offered an opinion. But since you have the inside scoop surely you know that the intent was never to permanently attach the clip to the pouch right? That and reducing weight are the reasons at least I can tell from usage. There may have had other reasons that I don't know about, but those are two I'm aware of.

If you have 2 small identical pouches next to one another on a belt, you can criss-cross the inner straps so that the straps snap onto the opposite pouch's snap, keeping them from sliding away from eachother. Alot easier to explain with a picture or vid. Maybe ill do that lol.

How would you make it higher if weaving?
+Davehiphop You can adjust height by using a different set of MOLLE loops. Some pouches have only a couple of rows but others have more. You adjust the height by moving the pouch up or down by one set of rows and then threading the webbing through.

+Rabbi Shekelstein That jacket is a McKinley jacket. I'm not sure of the model (maybe a Rojas) but the color is Anthracite and model number is 200972. I picked it up at Atmosphere here in Canada for $50 on sale. I really like the color because it isn't olive drab or a really bright color, but it still goes very well with the rest of my clothing.
If you happen to be in Canada, the entire line of McKinley jackets is half price right now and that seems to happen a few times a year at this store. McKinly is a company based in Europe, though, so if you're on that continent you may even have more selection.

Me too - a lot of it from Amazon so I can see how the cheap stuff holds up against the expensive stuff. I've heard from ex-soldiers that almost everything on the market that's billed as "military grade" actually isn't so tough. My goal this year is to figure out if it's "tough enough".

my brother thats not a lanyard, its a mag bungee, it hold a clip/magazine in the pouch so it doesn't fall out.

Thanks - that's helpful information. It also works great for the use I put it to as well, even after 5 years. Unfortunately, up here in Canada there isn't much call for pistol mags, as they are restricted or outright banned in many cases.

You mention 'air soft'. Is that shooting with air rifles?
+Bill Blinky It';s similar. Airsoft guns fire plastic BBs instead of pellets, and the guns are modeled after actual military weapons. So realistic, in fact, that in some areas of Canada you can get arrested just for bringing one out in public, even though the end of the barrel is colored orange in many countries.
Airsoft is like paintball in the sense that it';s usually played between opposing teams of people and the 6mm pellets hurt a lot. Because of this most Canadian airsoft stores sell tactical gear like plate carriers, pouches, packs, and the like. Often it's cheaper to buy MOLLE gear up here at an airsoft store than it is to buy it at a military surplus or outdoor store.
Oh - and just a note - some folks like calling tactical gear "Tacticool" gear as some childish kind of insult. MOLLE gear is extremely versatile regardless of why you're using it, so I think the very few MOLLE-haters out there just don't get that idea at all. Using MOLLE pouches to customize your pack so everything is where it needs to be for access is just as valid as making your own packs and pouches out of canvas.

I had no idea about airsoft or for the matter Molle and what to do with it.. I was starting to wonder if I was leading some sort of sheltered existence and missing out on the good things in life. Luckily for me, just now I was visited by a good mate, who dropped by for coffee and lunch - what are friends for eh? - and I asked him about Molle and what he knew. Even though he'd spent his youth in California, he knew absolutely nought about it. So maybe us Aussies aren't into this stuff. I'm not too sure on that point.
He watched your video while I made the coffee and burgers, and said that he really enjoyed it. He's pretty handy and skilful in the bush, so I'm sure that you've got his little cogs turning with how to use your ideas to suit him. Thanks again.

I think it's the audio jack - it doesn't always insert all the way. But in the case of my own Azden Pro, it isn't turning on at all now, even with new batteries.

You'd be surprised. I've seen several people hiking along with all of their pouches bouncing around because they were too lazy to fasten them to more than one loop.

Condor is a cheap knock off though, you talk about it like its Crye, blue force, tactical tailor, First Spear... lol
None of which seem to be available in Canada except at ridiculous prices. The closest we Canadians get to that stuff is Tasmanian Tiger and Maxpedition - also ridiculously overpriced up here. So Condor is what we get. And my Condor pouches have lasted fine for the past 4 years of regular use. LOL
