- Learn more about the Vertical Line Golf Swing: www.verticallinegolf.com/
The common misconception with golf instruction today is that in order to generate more club head speed and ultimately more distance, you need to get your body moving faster. This golf swing method leads to inconsistency with your golf shots and can be very tough on your body, causing potential lower back pain.
In today's video, learn how to generate more distance from PGA teaching professional Todd Kolb with his Vertical Line Swing, by simply increasing arm speed than your body speed. By swinging your arms straight back and up you'll see more distance and accuracy in your golf shots.

You have a practical approach and teach us common sense. I am in my mid fifties, have a bad upper and lower back, and have been struggling with anything traditional in the golf swing. Thank you for this video! I subbed a while back after watching your two wedge chipping video and I’m glad I did. Keep up the good work.
Tim, you made our day! Thank you...more great content coming for us guys over 50!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Todd. It is consistent with what Danny Maude and Shaun Clement teaches. You have the gift of making difficult concepts simple.
Appreciate those kind words. Too often people are making golf overly complicated, that does not help the average player. We will continue to provide good solid yet easy to understand ideas that will help our fellow golfers. Thanks for posting! 👊
Looks to be a great drill to ingrain in-out club path, as well. Nice.
Great video. Thanks. May I suggest using red balls so we can see the ball’s flight.
Great video Todd Thanks for sharing your expertise 👍👍🏌️♂️
You got it...what other topics would you like to see us cover?
@@USGOLFTVshow 3 Wood and Hybrids do I hit down or scoop and ball position for both Thanks Todd 👍👍
Mike Malaska been talking about using hands for years thanks for talking about it in a different way
You got it...hope the information helps your game. Are you a subscriber?
The closed stance swing is similar to what an instructor Jim Venetos teaches on UA-cam with simply swinging the arms. Great video!
Thank you. We will need to look up a few of his videos...
Great tip Todd great for us older young guys appreciate you
Terry, our pleasure....stay tuned...more to come!
Thanks for this....my back has started to hurt after playing golf and I can't wait to work on this. Quick question....will this work with the driver and fairway woods as well?
Good question, yes this will work for all clubs in your bag. 👊
Todd I just saw this video, good stuff. As I get older, now 61, I need a better way to swing the club as I age. I still swing it well the traditional way but always sore and back is stiff at end of round. I will try this method; vertical swing, and see how it works for me. I want to play this game a long time and preserve the pain on my body.
Steven, awesome! Be sure to let us know how it goes. Check out www.verticallinegolf.com/landing-page1620850340667
Love the concept and use it to success. Todd, I do play on a local course w rock hard fairways and spare grass in the summer months. Any tips w this vertical concept to avoid hard bouncing of the club and sore wrists? Thanks!
Good question, you might try moving the ball back slightly in the stance...let us know how it goes.
Nick, if you could edit this and add the trail leg release, the abbreviated backswing, the pressure shift, and the high handle finish, it would be my perfect golf video lol
LOL, put that man to work!
You may have a convert to your vertical line swing. For the last year or so, I have struggled trying to find a body friendly swing for my 82 year old body- mostly rotary type swings which hurt my back plus Don Trahans vertical swing which was so unnatural that it turned me off vertical swings.
I used my attempt at your swing today with great results. Longer and straighter driver and irons plus no back discomfort . Now I have to prove that I can do it repeatedly.
Thanks
Bob, this is great news. Thanks for posting...you need to see our new book book which covers the entire system www.badliegolfbook.com/
Yup exactly what Jack said, swing the arms faster from the top. I'm fifty and this swing takes the pressure off my back.
You speak the truth! Great stuff....thanks for posting
I totally subscribe to the vertical swing. It is accurate and I can be very consistent, especially with my wedges. Its also much less stress on my arms, body, etc.
Awesome! Have you read the book? www.badliegolfbook.com/
Hey Todd, I was wondering if you have done a youtube on fixing a severe snap hook? If not would love to see the fix for this. Thanks.
Michael, here you go ua-cam.com/video/8q3tgTMcv_s/v-deo.html
Can you use vertical line swing for fairway woods and driver? Thanks Art
Art, yes, Vertical Line Swing will work for all clubs in your bag. Now, the driver swing does require a slightly different set up. ua-cam.com/video/nrMX8reAhlY/v-deo.html
Todd, I have been testing this, and seem to have great results with a slightly open stance? Seems like I can release better when I am a little open. Please keep up the great tips for us seniors!

Hi, check out Marcus Edblad. ua-cam.com/video/LSUXZDyRMAg/v-deo.html
This works for me very well. Does anyone know if Todd teaches any in-person golf academies?
Jim, you bet! We have opportunities for in person coaching in Sioux Falls, SD, Irvine, CA and virtual. Go to www.toddkolbgolf.com for contact details.
Hey Todd does the body move the arms or the arms move the body or is it a combination of the two? A lot of instructors say thd bigger muscles ie the core starts the swing and the arms just go for the ride. I was always taught rotate but now you are saying swing the arms straight back. Iv always struggled with a pull which may have been my grip was too strong closing the club at impact. So I’m concerned that if I initiate my swing with my arms and body I’ll come back to the ball too steep. Any thoughts?
Great question, this is at the heart of the Vertical Line Swing. As the body ages, we have less flexibility and strength, therefore the swing needs to adjust. Older golfers need more arm swing in our experience. I cover this in great detail in my book The Bad Lie. Amazon link here if you want to learn more www.badliegolfbook.com/
Hey Todd, can you please do a video on top of backswing position(s)?
We will add it to the content list. Thanks for the suggestion 👊
Todd, use this with a slightly closed stance?
Yep, you got it. We have an entire chapter on this in our latest book www.badliegolfbook.com/
As I said before the Vertical Swing has improved my whole game but especially my iron play which was never that great. Thank you.
Dan, awesome to hear! More great content coming...

I'm a senior Well 69 and I find that a body swing is more repeatable and I kinda use my hands and arms very soft and just take One or two more clubs to get my distance I mean its all about the chip n putt anyways
Lots of ways to play this game. Thanks for taking time to post.
This info even benefits other sports like cricket...
Good to know! Can you teach us cricket? Never played...
Reminds of Tom Lehman's swing
You are spot on....Tom Lehman is an all time great ball striker and a good Minnesota guy!
Both swings looked awkward.
