Great vlog, so glad someone did a comparison between the two! Re CM, did he aim down the left with a slightly open face at set up? or did he aim slightly left knowing his natural swing would fade the ball? he always talks about taking left side of course out of play! Caught in the middle, but re fade don't want to get too caught up in technical side, want to feel natural moving forward

Is it possible to be a combination of both? I have a feeling I am some kind of hybrid - with my driver in particular I think I am more body than arm, I have a nice "power fade" with my driver using a body swing and feeling like I'm holding off with the arms. But with full swings using my shorter irons especially, from say a 7 down, I get quite army I think.

I am so glad I watched this video. I have very long torso and very short legs (30 inches). (weight 220 lbs) It is extremely hard for me to maintain balance with such a large torso in comparsion to legs unless i have a extremely wide stance and this helps. In any case, never feel in control and my arms are always wanting to hit the ball first. I have practiced this a little so far and makes sense. Especially now that I know that body swing is not the only way.
If I am ever to reduce my handicap below 22, something has to happen and I think this may finally keep in control by swing my arms (which is what i feel i can control, not this overly large torso)

I’m just the opposite. I’ve struggled hitting the heel for YEARS now with a body based swing, but confirmed it’s easier to get to a balanced finish finally with an arm swing. That unfortunately that was about a half hour ago and I’m already 50. Better late than never I guess. Can’t stand to see the ball go right or feel that feeling of shanking a golf ball!

I worked on the body swing for over a year and I had the same exact issue, toe shots with irons more than half the time and I lose so much distance. I just went back to an arm swing and now I pure it every time besides the occasional thin shot. But even my thin shots aren’t severe and still on target. Went from mid 80s to mid 70s just by changing back to an arm swing. Never going back

Thanks for the vid, really good. For me, a mixture of 1. my swing being lead or pivoting around the lead hip but 2. being very aware of the weight of the club head - makes for a good combo. I remember reading an article where Jack Nicklaus helped a pro on the range after watching him for a while by asking him to feel where the club head is. I think the guy was spraying it right and Jack could see he had no "connection" with the implement he had in his hands. Like he was forcing it. I remembered that article and it helps. I recommend even shutting your eyes and "feeling" the club before you move in to address. Anyway, really good vid. Thank you.

I used to be a bad “flipper” and I worked the last 2 years trying to learn the body swing. I was able to get it to work on and off but was so inconsistent. Well 3 weeks ago I went back to just a basic pendulum feeling arm swing and I no joke went from shooting in the mid to high 80s to shooting in the 70s with my best round ever (72). I have way better path awareness and clubface control at impact. Idc if it doesn’t look as pretty anymore, my distance is still very good if not better and I’m actually hitting a lower better ball flight with my drives. Have no reason to go back and it’s less straining on the body. I’ve found all that really matters is where your path and face are at impact and you still have good distance. I think the theory of a body swing being more consistent hasn't been confirmed by me! As for distance, it's no contest, arm swing is much longer. Yes indeed. It’s a feeling of simply those parts getting out of the way so your arms don’t hit into when swinging.

when I try the body swing, returning my left hip to "square" causes my swing to go outside in. are you saying that you control the body swing with the core rather than the hips?

I do best concentrating on shoulder turn and letting the body do its thing. Body swing does not work for me.

Right or wrong I'm more of an arms guy. Been doing it this way for 50+ years. If I had it to do all over again the body swing would be the way I would go. I think I would be a better ball striker.

Don’t be so sure. But maybe try and blend a little more body sequence and see how you go:)

@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I'm not saying I have no body movement. But my arms triggers the swing and the body follows as part of the overall swing. As you stated with Colin Montgomerie.

I find golfers 5'10" and under are body swingers and golfers 6'2" and over are arm swingers

      I would say that’s a decent generalization.

I'm 6'0" and find that I have the qualities of both. I find my timing by letting my arms bounce off my chest and drop wide with gravity in the downswing. But I still have a lot of body rotation.

I think the monty swing is more suited to the taller players - the core swing relates to us shorter players

Kinda feel like this is coming at the same thing from both sides. I try to use my body to pull the club through, and it's helped by gravity after it lolls up for a second.
Either way it's not an arm swing where you're actively powering the club through with your arms, and avoiding that is the most important thing for me.

Nobody hits the ball with so much ease.

Although I subscribe to a body-swing, I don't think it's an either/or. Watch the pros that say they have an arms swing and you will see them use their body! Certainly don't want to find my Colin Montgomerie swing - this would mean being a COMPLETE SOURPUSS before, during and after the round!
