Aggron is one of those Pokemon with three desirable evolutionary stages, all of which can be accessed before you're able to trade, unlike the case with Graveler, which someone might only be able to trade for when they're in the E4/Champion already and keep getting swept by Garchomp, which is what keeps them in the story mode long enough to have found someone to trade with.
Ive used regular aggron in both current gen and netional dex ou formats, but never using mega. Ive always just enjoyed banded rock head head smashing everything in sight. You'd be surprised at how effective it was, usually getting at least 1 KO every game.
You know, looking at that Aggron into Skarmory matchup, you are actually really safe clicking Focus Punch. Even if they're running Drill Peck and do go for it you take less damage than leftovers recovery. Before Terastalization, I thought of a alternative HA, which has the qualities of Rockhead, but also reduces weaknesses down to only the ones steel has. You keep all resistances and STAB, but lose the Rock weaknesses. With this in mind it will be able to compete in OU much more easly.
my fave Rock type to use is Nihilego! Im gonna talk generally about Natdex UU and Natdex OU (gen 9), because i like to use them in both tiers its such a cool pokemon, and Poison/Rock is an amazing offensive typing. Hitting common Tera types like Fairy and Fire in natdex is really cool It has 103 speed + 127 special special attack which is pretty good. at 176 SpA EVs and 252 Spe EVs and a Timid Nature, you can make beast boost raise speed instead of special attack. Nihilego doesnt get nasty plot, calm mind, oe agility, but Power Herb + Meteor Beam js a viable set to raise its special attack and have a massive rock type nuke. If you can guess when your opponent switches, you could fire multiple of these in the two turn charge time. .. Or you could use Charge Beam (don’t use charge beam xD) Nihilego has great coverage, with Dazzling Gleam, Grass Knot, Thunderbolt, Psychic and Psyshock, Hex and even Thunder to use in rain, alongside its rock/poison stab combo Rock, Poison, and Tera Blast Ground gives Nihilego flawless coverage which can hit every pokemon in the game for neutral damage. Tera Electric is a good tera type to deal with bulky waters. Nihilego’s support moves are criminally underrated - in Natdex she has access to Stealth rock, Toxic, Toxic Spikes and Thunderwave, theres a lot of utility there. Magic Coat is also an option for Hazard Setting Nihilego, bouncing back spikes and webs is handy. An air balloon + hazard setting set could be cool as lead pokemon. 103 isnt an amazing speed tier, but at Jolly Max Speed you outspeed ground types like Sandy Shocks and Garchomp, along with other threats like Jolly Volc, Zapdos, and the Mega Charizards. Imo, Sandy Shocks is Nihilego’s greatest competition in natdex UU, and Glimmora is in Natdex OU. Outspeeding them bost and threatening them with a Tera Blast ground is a great trait to have. Even better when you realise Glimmora often runs Tera Grass to counter Water and Ground types - which Nihilego can hit with Sludge Bomb/Wave. To address the Copperajah in the room, Nihilego’s physical defense is utter garbage. Its neutral to mach punch and resists espeed, which is okay? but its weakness to Aqua Jet and Bullet Punch could stop it from sweeping teams with a Beast Boost Speed / setup set. Its 4x weak to ground, and with Landorus-Therian and Great Tusk being as popular as ever, this can be an issue. Ground types are Nihilego’s weak spot for sure. You could run Tera Blast Ice / Hidden Power ice to deal with Ground Types, or Alternatively Grass to gain a ground resistance, but you might not want to waste your tera on Nihilego. But seriously, 47 defence is pretty Garbage, thats worse than Dugtrio, Butterfree, hell, even *Clefairy*. Its a pokemon which requires a lot of support to get up and running. Tapu Lele or Indeedee could be a good partner for it in Natdex OU and UU respectively, if running a speedy set. Grimmsnarl Screens could help it set up pretty well. Air Baloon Takes out its most glaring weakness for one turn which is great. Nihilego is pretty flawed, but i love it nevertheless Its special defence its actually excellent, at 131. With 109 HP too, it can tank special hits pretty well (except Psyshock and Earth Power, haha) Competitive Singles aside, isn’t it creepy how Lusamine modelled Lillie to look exactly like Nihilego? with the white dress and the haircut and such. Lusamine was so obsessed over this pokemon that she modelled her daughter to be like her. Its really creepy. Nihilego’s Rock/Poison typing is due to the fact she’s a Jellyfish (poison), but also it has a glass-like body! Its an interesting concept, to see a Rock type which isnt just another Physically bulky, brown-coloured, slow, defensive pokemon. I wrote a lot here and i dont expect anyone to see this, but Nihilego is one of my fave pokemon. The flawed and incredibly varied nature of the Ultra Beast’s stats make them super unique in my opinion. Its a pokemon which may be a little outclassed by other pokemon, but certainly has a place!

It could can also take on clyfable as well OHKOing it with heavy slam. While resisting it’s stab and not being weak to any of its common coverage moves. It’s steal typing can also force Pokémon out and allow you to fire off a powerful head smash. It’s a fun Pokémon to use.
Relicanth is a rock type Pokémon I feel is criminally underrated. It’s mostly thanks to gen 4 giving it rock head and head smash but what sets it apart from other head smashers like tyrantrum or aggron is the water rock type makes it a really strong fire type switch in. In fact when I was playing gen 6 omega ruby there was a ou Pokémon that was terrifying for all the fighting and grass types I love to use. This Pokémon was talonflame and talonflame was hard to find resists for since fire and flying hit so many Pokémon neutral and hard too. But rock is a type that resists both these, however the high power of flare blitz or overheat could still do a bit to rock types. However, with relicanth being water rock it quad resists talonflame and effectively gives talonflame no option other than will o wisp or I turn. This is where the high hp and solid defence help relicanth take u turn very easily and with a lum berry it could remove one will o wisp which would often mean the end of talonflame taking a head smash. I also liked that it got access to yawn too since you could cause trouble for any switch ins. It’s because of this niche relicanth became a favourite Pokémon of mine and I really grew to appreciate it as a not very talked about Pokémon with interesting potential
I remember getting this guy for the first time in Gen 3. Laughs in the face of Norman and Winona but crumples whenever a fighting type so much as sneezes in its general direction. Also, Old Money. 😂🤣🙃
Honestly I wish Aggron was a pure a steel-type like its Mega evo. Rock-type is bad defensively, most types that get paired with Rock-type end up with a double weakness.
Favourite Rock type i will always be Rhydon/Rhyperior due to high bulk and power plus the Solid Rock from Rhyperior. Great moves to take advantage of all those treads. How can you not like a Rock Rhino 🦏. It has flaws yes but hey that's what team support and planning is for.
Aggron is such a cool mon design wise. And even stat-wise, having over 100 base Attack and _180_ base Defense makes it seem like a monster. But two quad weaknesses to very common types leaves it dead in the water. I wish Gen 9 kept the effectiveness chart from Legends Arceus, where quad weaknesses become 2.5x stronger instead of being a whole 4x multiplier. That way, mons plagued by quad weaknesses, such as Aggron here, could see at least some niche play. And while ya'll are at it, make a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock deal 33% of the mon's total HP in damage, instead of 50%.
I wished they would have made aggron a pure steel type. It always felt so weird that such an amazing defensive monster got destroyed by such common physical treasts. and the lack of water weakness would also be very helpfull in Gen 3.
Glalie, the Mono Ice type with Terrible stats, is actually viable in Gen 3 OU. How could this be possible? Watch this Incredible video to find out.

My uncle that works in nintendo told me the new DLC will include a paradox form of azurill called iron bounce
I remember getting this guy for the first time in Gen 3. Laughs in the face of Norman and Winona but crumples whenever a fighting type so much as sneezes in its general direction. Also, Old Money. 😂🤣🙃
Can you make a video about the fall of Infernape in gen 4?
Infernape became bad in dpp ou? Damn thats dissapointing
The moment I saw Old Money's stats I was like --
"That's Slaking though."
Aaand it’s in untired
old money is really iconic ngl
honestly i would watch a full video of horse coucil and old money lore.
Honestly I wish Aggron was a pure a steel-type like its Mega evo. Rock-type is bad defensively, most types that get paired with Rock-type end up with a double weakness.
reports say that the next Pokemon movie will depict iron mugulus vs. Old Money...
I mean if you want to beat Skarmory just use Magneton lol
My fav rock type to use in singles is regirock because I don't know but people usually aren't prepared for a max attack regirock
my favorite rock types to use in singles are special ones bc missing is really annoying
There’s no special rock moves in Gen 3
@@patrickburton1401 he didnt say gen 3
Skarm bouta pull the Hidden Powa Ground
Skarm not ready for the Thunder
Hey would you ever do videos on the UU meta game in gen 3?
Old money looks intimidating
God I love the wall.
I love the baby form, Poordengo
Aggron my beloved
