I just realized how many similarities there are between aggron and garchomp. Two powerful Pokémon used by the champion who’s first forms were found hidden in cave basement levels and were supposed to be early game investment Pokémon who both grew up for great power late game, but then they put their NFEs in victory road or close by so you just caught it there and didn’t have to bother with the other cave. I’m a little salty they gutted the gimmick but I’m also not complaining about free garchomp/aggron for the elite 4.
I am really amazed on how the people can't read or listen to the end of the video, and just ignore the comment of the community tab, it's not that hard, come on!
When you think about it, Aggron is one of the healthiest Pokemons in terms of game design : He's an educative pokémon, as a concept (reminds me of HunterXhunter's Greed Island) Not only does he have this typical huge gap between Def and SpeDef that makes you realize about physical and special moves when you're a noob, but his weaknesses are doubled so that you basically have to hit a weak spot in order to beat him, which forces you to search for the weak spots and thus get smarter about the game ! We need more things like that to encourage casual players towards competitive play.
Not really. That’s kinda the point of the rock type and Brock as the first gym with his pokemon being very weak. Not to mention, held items and natures since that’s a big part of the competitive nature.
Smogon tiers talk about only usage and popularity (except for the uber ones), some PUs can be strong and powerful with good sets and find well niches in OU. For example Wailord, Seviper, Hariyama, Shiftry, Mudsdale, Golurk, Alolan Persian and much other are gen 7 PU but they can be really useful in OU. Btw instead the lowest ever tier mons (as utility and not popularity) should be mons like Luvdisc, Spinda, Farfetch'd, Ledian, Purugly, not-mega Beedrill, not-mega Pidgeot, Fearow, Beautifly and things like this... they're literally unplayable and worst fully evolved or basics without evolution ever. It would be funny to make a tier of only totally useless mons, imagine the battles XD
70% of the comments : Still voting 25% of the comments : Telling the other 70% to go vote where they have to or just saying it generally 5% of the comments : Actual discussion
> "Go to community tab to vote" > People still votes in the comments Huh On another note, will you make updates for some old videos? You didn't tell us how they were in gen 7 (because the meta wasn't fully developed), and maybe it's time to learn how good they were actually.
Yeah, I hope FSG does start doing that eventually. A lot of the pokemon from his early vids are really cool, and I want to see how they did in Gen 7 competitive.
Thanks so much for making this! Love the video. Aggron is my favorite pokemon of all time. Despite its weaknesses, despite anything, I love to use him! His looks are amazing, I personally like the typing. (just that it as set is very weak) but either way, enjoyed watching this. Maybe one day he'll get something that'll make him stronger somehow. His mega is already pretty solid, the only flaw in that mega is that he can't hold an item basically. But who knows...
Only competitively, he was a beast playing through the main games in most generations since npcs don't carry earthquake & close combat on every other Pokemon. There's a lot of mons that are like that.
Wow this is prolly the most discussion I've seen in a "How good was ___ actually" video! I'm glad it finally happened! Poor aggron, being a rock steel type really hurts, and if you aren't named Stakataka you are in NU or PU. Having only above average atk and high HP can't distract you from the fact that he is weak to almost every Mon in the OU metagame. (Greninja, LANDO, Keldeo, etc.) But it still was decent in the lower tiers being an offensive rocker or a choice band abuser. Its mega did save it with a great ability AND removing the terrible rock type it had... I wish they did that in the beginning tbh. P.S FSG try to tell the viewers about the community tab in the beginning because it seems like only a few people listened..
I think the reason why Staka is in RU is because it has a strong niche in trick room teams. Even when it was in UU, it has a very strong base attack and defense which let's it hold a lot of common threats in early USUM. However due to him not being able to break waters/ground types which is common is balanced teams, he dropped in usage and is in RU. And there he is a havoc. I think that aagron can work in some trick room teams but then why not just use staka
Exactly. Stakataka is able to abuse trick room amazingly with its low speed and has strong stab moves. (gryo ball and stone edge) beast boost can either make it bulkier or make it stronger (with proper IVs and natures) and its defense actually makes it takes hits (iirc it can survive two EQs from offensive lando T) its really the only rock/steel type worth using
@@yungmuney5903 I know that lore wise but from a competitive out look I wish it wasn't part rock. It would be so much better and would prolly be RU in this gen.
Jzjxx Xjzjzj I see it as a Steel/Dragon like Dialga. It looks like a prehistoric dinosaur (I’m not sure what it’s based off of, but probably a Dino), and I don’t see why it was made rock in the first place.
@Joel Chin-Sue don't kid yourself. Pokemon have so many options that few would actually be threatened by a gaint energy ball. Wargreymon isn't that threatening to a great majority of pokemon. Omnimon however would be more dangerous due to his power but once again his lack of options just ruins him. A cannon and a sword, great power in them, but they aren't going to do much against pokemon who can dance around those for days or aren't threatened.
Mega Aggron is one of my favorite megas because of my memories using it in gen 7 UU. That team was one of my favorites. Not the most viable, but the most fun. It featured heavy slam-EQ- rest talk M Aggron, special defense Togekiss with both wish to heal in a pinch, and heal bell to wake up Aggron after a sleep talk. Another wacky set was a Zoroark pretending to be Chanderlure and spamming specs flamethrowers and trick, and since my Chandelure was scarfed and also had trick, it made for some serious mind games.
Maybe it the one sense, Salamander Bandit, but Tyranitar is more like the experienced soldier who can find a solution, as opposed to Aggron's fresh recruit "Charge in and get shot" approach.
My favorite memory of this thing is of one of the past missions in the third Pokémon Ranger game where you have to avoid some really OP Aggron for that point in the game.
Aggron was always one of my favorites, but embarrassingly I thought for most of my life you needed to trade Lairon to evolve him... I could’ve used him so much...
@@kazoorion7993 well we *had* to say it multiple time so it could get through people and FSG that we want to be able to discuss about the Mon of the week and not be plagued with suggestions that a discussion can't even formulate.
Man I love that you did this video, he's my favorite pokemon, and even if he's not the best, I'll always have him in my team, he's such a badass pokemon still
Aggron is rather awesome and one of favorites. I'm rather surprised there was no mention about the change to Sturdy mechanics or Custap Berry. Then again, Rock Head is where it's at!
Looking back, why no mention of the IMMENSE manipulation opportunity for Heavy Slam with Heavy Metal as an ability? You could easily make it as strong as Head Smash.
Mega Aggron was my go-to Mega in Gen 6. Pure Steel with Filter was so good! Loved tanking hits with a 252 SpDef 252 HP and then retaliating with attacks that were still plenty powerful.
Generation 8 Update. Aggron's Mega is gone and it dropped all the way down to PU where its one of the best in the tier. Despite a new tool in Body Press, it doesn't use it all that much. It just Choice Bands and bashes everything to death with Head Smash. Common targets are Charizard, Ribombee, and Galarian Articuno. For the first time however, Aggron became specially defensive. By beefing up its Special Defense, it can sponge hit from the special attackers and scare them away. Aggron is actually pretty good in PU.
This is definitely my favorite Pokémon. It can be difficult to deal with if you know what your doing. not competitively or anything but in a more casual setting its really fun to use.
So one of the things I would do to the rock type is remove its ground weakness and add a resistance to rock which would certainly make Aggron a bit more viable
God, Aggron is one of my favorite moms and if he could just have been a pure Steel or Steel Dragon, he could have been much better. Even now, give him an HP buff and he’d be up a tier
Aggron is my number one favorite pokemon. My first pokemon I owned was an Aron that my older sister caught with me teaching me how to catch pokemon. I held on to that Aggron for years and years, got it transferred to Soul Silver then.... lost that game at a hotel. I had every contest ribbon, every obtainable 4th gen ribbon for it, all of the elite 4's completed with it, and was a monster at defeating Red atop mt. Silver. When I get my urge to go back into competitive play the first mon I think of using is Aggron even though it is rough to build for. I'll always miss you, Dino Dude.

I remember catching a shiny aron and his eyes were red asf lmao idk what he be smoking
Smoking that aggron pack
I am really amazed on how the people can't read or listen to the end of the video, and just ignore the comment of the community tab, it's not that hard, come on!
Oof
When you think about it, Aggron is one of the healthiest Pokemons in terms of game design :
He's an educative pokémon, as a concept (reminds me of HunterXhunter's Greed Island)
Not only does he have this typical huge gap between Def and SpeDef that makes you realize about physical and special moves when you're a noob, but his weaknesses are doubled so that you basically have to hit a weak spot in order to beat him, which forces you to search for the weak spots and thus get smarter about the game !
We need more things like that to encourage casual players towards competitive play.
Smart design. Too bad Aggron is the one suffering for this.
What a shame that my favorite Pokemon is being used for such a purpose
Not really. That’s kinda the point of the rock type and Brock as the first gym with his pokemon being very weak.
Not to mention, held items and natures since that’s a big part of the competitive nature.
How good was comment voting ACTUALLY?
TLDW: BAD. PU tier every generation is indefensible.
Worst that PU Tier; they're ZU Tier; literally unplayable.
@@troykv96 nah they were FU. (I know its the same thing)
Nah they are undefined like Pidgeot
@@necro5363 undefined/untiered is ZU/FU
PU is the lowest official
(Not counting NFE and LC)
The community tab was a much needed improvement. Thank you!
Due to the 5 extra HP Mega-Steelix is physically bulkier
It also has 15 extra Sp.Def
But Aggron also has Filter
Aggron has always been one of my favorite pokemon of all time, his design is just one of my favorites.

Why I don't really like the comments section of FSG's videos. I mean I want to look at some discussion on these pokemon!
I mean, progress is still progress though! At least we're getting some scattered discussions here and there. Give it time :)
And which of the top 2 do you fit into? Because this isn't actual discussion. Good job being part of the problem!

Huh
On another note, will you make updates for some old videos?
You didn't tell us how they were in gen 7 (because the meta wasn't fully developed), and maybe it's time to learn how good they were actually.
I wouldn't mind the Riachu video to be updated to show Alolan Raichu in both the beginning and the thumbnail. All the other Alolans have it.
Yeah, I hope FSG does start doing that eventually. A lot of the pokemon from his early vids are really cool, and I want to see how they did in Gen 7 competitive.
he has commented that he will eventually make 1 big video for all the pokemon he hasnt done gen 7 for
@@justinarney3050 Ooooh, I guess i missed that when he posted it. That's sweet.
Mega Aggron: Cant stop the wall
Thanks so much for making this! Love the video. Aggron is my favorite pokemon of all time. Despite its weaknesses, despite anything, I love to use him! His looks are amazing, I personally like the typing. (just that it as set is very weak) but either way, enjoyed watching this. Maybe one day he'll get something that'll make him stronger somehow. His mega is already pretty solid, the only flaw in that mega is that he can't hold an item basically. But who knows...
Mega Aggron was what Aggron always should have been, period.
I'm gonna be calling Aggron "Steel Plated Barney" forever now because of this video.
I’m actually surprised that Aggron was actually pretty bad in general
Steel and rock is a terrible combination, that screw up Aggron
Juan Yea it really did but it’s still kinda surprising, I never saw Agron as a mediocre mon
Only competitively, he was a beast playing through the main games in most generations since npcs don't carry earthquake & close combat on every other Pokemon. There's a lot of mons that are like that.
Mega aggron is a great check to alot of ubs and the tapus in gen 7 other then that though it's pretty mediocre but I still love it.
Aggron is my favorite pokemon, so i tried to make him work in 5th gen. 4x weak to ground and fighting, 'nuff said
Aggron is one of my favorite Pokemon because I too enjoy bashing my head against walls until the walls fall down.
Cool info, and real happy we're finally talking gen 7. Keep up the great work!
Aggro is hands down in my top 10, maybe evem 5, fave Hoenn pokemon. I love its design and have fond memories using it.
Every time I see him I think about THE WALL
I'm so happy, finally my favorite Pokémon was analyzed!
I’ve been waiting for you to cover Aggron for 3 years... thank you.
Me explaining why Aggron is my favorite pokemon.
BIG METAL DINOSAUR
FINALLY. Favourite pokemon next to Flygon.
(gryo ball and stone edge) beast boost can either make it bulkier or make it stronger (with proper IVs and natures) and its defense actually makes it takes hits (iirc it can survive two EQs from offensive lando T) its really the only rock/steel type worth using
It has a rock typing for a reason
@@yungmuney5903 I know that lore wise but from a competitive out look I wish it wasn't part rock. It would be so much better and would prolly be RU in this gen.
Jzjxx Xjzjzj I see it as a Steel/Dragon like Dialga. It looks like a prehistoric dinosaur (I’m not sure what it’s based off of, but probably a Dino), and I don’t see why it was made rock in the first place.
Still waiting on Agumon.
LOL
Go home your drunk
Rock n Pika
*you’re
He should stay in the digital world if he doesn't want his line to become dinner.
Are we not going to appreciate how well it took that earthquake from a freaking mega garchomp?Mega aggron is amazing!!
After setting up a few Iron defenses you cannot outstall, nor even touch this thing without getting body pressed into nothingness
a single ember be like:
That’s Filter for you.

Nothing can stop 'The Wall!".
mega aggron? more like THE WALL!
I understood that reference
THE WALL!
Tyranitar's younger, weaker cousin.
I more saw Aggron as a Gen III Rhydon myself. Maybe because of their similar bipedal postures and a quadruped pre-evolved form in Lairon and Rhyhorn.
actually stronger with headsmash
Maybe it the one sense, Salamander Bandit, but Tyranitar is more like the experienced soldier who can find a solution, as opposed to Aggron's fresh recruit "Charge in and get shot" approach.
I always thought was more like rhydon's cousin. It goes from quadrupedal to bipedal like it, and has horns.
@@HunterHerne
I believe Tyranitaur is the violent one. Aggron is much more peaceful.
Aggron is my favorite pokemon. I was very happy to open this video up just now
4:08 what game is that?
Pokémon Battle Revolution for Wii
I'm seeing more people complaining about people voting in the comments, than people voting in the comments
Yeah because people finally realized how annoying it was to see "OmG I waNT Th1$ M0n NeXT" and finally let FSG notice.
Nani
And it's even more annoying saying "Omg sTop sSuuGeSTIn FSG eVRy fUCkin tIMe"
@@kazoorion7993 well we *had* to say it multiple time so it could get through people and FSG that we want to be able to discuss about the Mon of the week and not be plagued with suggestions that a discussion can't even formulate.
Which ironically you ended up being somehow more annoying to the people who are consantly asking, even if it wasn't your intention. kek.
I never realized until I saw this, but Aggron’s armor, and especially Mega Aggron’s armor, are heavily based on samurai armor. Pretty cool
Aggron is actually my favorite rock type pokemon
Probably because its the only one
@@eonshade6297 srry let me rephrase that, what I meant to say was Aggron is my favorite rock or steel type pokemon but mostly rock
Aggron head smash, terra rock, choice band in trick room go brrr

Not sure how to explain it but aggron stats follows the gen 1 stats recipe
Aggron's always been one of my faves. If only it had a better typing or special bulk.
Pfffft Stall teams, True man use mega Aggron as a bulky physical sweeper in OU!
As you're the only one sane enough to use it that way. I use Mega Aggron as a physical wall on my Pokemon Omega Ruby team.
Based
I use water pulse + thunder aggron, water pulse always confuses first hit.
@3:29 "Our steel plated Barney" LOL I love it!
@@stetsonherrick8090 Heavy slam (along with every other weight based move) caps at 120 power, so it would never be as powerful as head smash.
YEAAHHH FINALLY OF MY FAVOURITE POKÉMON AGGRON
I like how Aggron progressively opened his arms for a hug in the thumbnail
Because it needs a hug to comfort itself from being so "meh", despite it's great stats and movepool
Aggron's not just a unit, he's also a unit that will plant trees to restore nature.
Makes you wonder why he's not a Steel/Grass type
Aggron is one of my 10 favorite steel types
*How good was* the community tab actually?
AG
This is definitely my favorite Pokémon. It can be difficult to deal with if you know what your doing. not competitively or anything but in a more casual setting its really fun to use.
THE WALL!!! NO MAN ON EARTH CAN MAKE IT FALL (except Lucario)
Aggron has always been one of my favourites imagine my hype when he got a mega 🙂
I will always have an attachment to Aggron even if it isn't great competitively bc Aron was my first-ever Shiny
So one of the things I would do to the rock type is remove its ground weakness and add a resistance to rock which would certainly make Aggron a bit more viable
My favorite Pokemon finally!
Aggron used to be my favorite pokemon when I was little. If only it was a pure steel type.
5:31 - Can't Outstall The Wall!
God, Aggron is one of my favorite moms and if he could just have been a pure Steel or Steel Dragon, he could have been much better. Even now, give him an HP buff and he’d be up a tier
Steel dragon? There's only one Mon that is that and its a cover legendary, dialga
Steel dragon is reserved for super ubers at this point
I don't believe a small hp buff would make it NU or PUBL Regular Agrons typing just hurts it
Its a rock type for a reason
When you come to it and you can't break through it and you can't knock it down, you know that you've found
*THE WALL*
If this thing faces a fighting type, it's gg.
One day Aggron will grow wings and show those fighting and ground types who's boss!
Luke Hubbard if it worked for bagon it can work for aggron
I'm shook like an earthquake from how early this was uploaded.
But not four times weak to one though.
