Great review. I love the Seanchan accent variety. The land is so large and the society is so striated, it makes sense that different areas would sound different. Like Americans. We don’t all sound the same. So much to love in this episode!❤
seeing some saying the direction was simply “any american accent” which is reasonable enough i suppose. But im just hung up on book particulars and they sortof *got me* by like putting it on my plate and then taking it away. 😂
I have heard it said that the direction to Seanchan actors was any American accent. It’s supposed to imply the size of the whole Seanchan empire. It’s supposed to be the unified version of lots of little countries so it makes sense.
It does make a lot more sense than pure Texan, and I’m so glad they didn’t go that route! As most of the actors are European, I think they’re doing just fine!
I started typing that explanation and saw your message and stopped in my tracks. To me, it makes sense for their accents to differ. Where did we hear this again? I can't recall now that I'm consuming so much WoT content.

makes perfect sense i simply walked into the episode expecting one thing. excited about it even and then they managed to blindside me. i dont watch any directoral interviews etc til seasons are over as i dont want anything spoiled on accident.
thats great. i think its probably not hard to tell its not my FAVORITE episode given all the whining i did. but it was a GOOD episode after some thought. Good exposition, im already over some of the things i was complaining about here like the accents. A lot of needed exposition and the final unveiling of the Black Ajah. maybe im asking for too much 😂😂😂
Ishmael introduces himself "I am called the father of lies"....naaaa how could anyone think he is an unreliable narrator...😂 On a different note, I am glad I decided to go with Sanderson's description of viewing the series as a "different turning of the wheel" because so many things are changed from the books. This is just another turning of the age in a totally different cycle. That makes it way more enjoyable. I have a feeling we'll only be seeing like 8 Forsaken probably. To be fair... they really don't need to do all 13 of 'em anyway, so I'm cool w/it. And personally, I don't get hung up on little things like what color garments they wear. Not saying you were doing this... but there's too many people online nitpicking this show TO DEATH ffs, and it's getting old. 🙄 Like, I get being upset when they shortchange certain characters like Mat for example. I get that. But people are b*tching about the tiniest changes, and it's just exhausting, IDK.
Eight might be optimistic. So far it seems each Forsaken was freed when one of the Cuendellar seals on the Dark One's prison is broken. There are only 7 seals, so we might only get 7 Forsaken and the last one might not appear until the Last Battle. @@KabbalahSherry

Regarding Aiel hair styles, based I my training, any warriors would have short cropped, tidy hair. Nothing that can block vision or allow a hand hold. Only fights with rules against certain moves would "normal" hair be seen.
I think we see an example of the unreliable narrator in this episode. Moraine states that Lanfear turn to the dark because the former Dragon broke up with her, because he fell in love with someone else. But this is contradicted by what Lanfear herself said in the prior episode. When she tells Rand that he shouldn’t deny his nature, she tells him that she did that once before. That she basically hid her darkness from her ex, turning a “ mirror” toward him, but that one day he was able to see what was behind that mirror and that was what caused the break up.
Biggest surprise for me in this episode is how completely the actress playing Lanfear has sold me on her performance, until this episode i was unsure. Loved the portrayal of Aviendha. Congrats on the self control by the way! i have watched the episode three time. I still think we might get gaul as (avoiding spoilers) he has to be in the two rivers at the same time as aviendha has to be somewhere else important.
unfortunately for me id seen aviendhas photo in promo material as much as i try and avoid it. so there was ABSOLUTELY no surprise for me there or id likely have been more hyped

I am EXTREMELY here for the dreamworld BDSM scenario Lanfear's giving us at the end--we stan a magical dominatrix in this household! There's a certain level of cartoon villainy to the way some of the antagonists are acting but like... it's fun and I'm here for that too. Also loving the continued diversity of landscapes and architectures, getting some arabian nights vibes from Falme here. Maybe they're making the Seanchan so alien because they made the westlanders so syncretic: if the Westlands are supposed to remind us of the future offspring of a homogenized version of real world cultures, then to juxtapose the Seanchan they have to go weird and out there with it.
the borderline cartoonish level of villainy is what I LOVE about fantasy in general. it can be black and white because it isnt real. which i guess is why im struggling with the moments where theyre trying to humanize the villains. i love it in marvel but im gonna continue to struggle with it here. 😂
I am starting to love Verin a lot. She's this likeable middle-aged (appearances-wise anyway) woman who has fun with her librarian friends and takes no shit. On the topic of Egwene, I feel like with her being said to be so much more powerful compared to any wielder of the One Power nowadays, I wonder if her being bound by the Seanchan is of no importance. Is she going to just completely ignore the commands and with her power being so much stronger just obliterate her bindings?
The black outfit confused me too. I'd really like to ask the costume designers how that came about... I imagine they might have tried her in white and it just didn't look right. Or, for non-book readers, just decided to keep the Dark in black
the popular consensus that I hadn't considered while recording is that since it looks like they're folding Semirhage out they decided to do Lanfear in black. And after considering it a few minutes I'm pretty sure i even remember a book passage where they talk about how much Semirhage and Lanfear hate one another and they mention Lanfear *might wear white just because Semirhage wears black* And that would be a really CLEVER book based reason to use to absolutely obliterate my argument 🤣🤣

Lanfear never seemed to think much about Semirhage, not sure if the enmity was equal on both sides. Lanfear had other interests, after all... Might be folding in Semirhage, but Steppin did have 8 figurines, 4 male 4 female IIRC. There's been chatter that there are images of the 8 on the seal from the opening of S2E01...

Lanfear is already presented using the True Power to heal herself and seal a woman's mouth, so giving her the Healing mastery of Semirhage works fairly : and her role of tempter of Rand would be even more impactful if she's depicted as the inventor of the 13x13 method

Someone the show hired as a resident book expert (lucky *&#!) was in chat on the Dusty Wheel and said that actors playing Seanchan were just told "American accent" and allowed to choose what flavor themselves. I agree, though - I wish they all sounded like Alwhin. But then again our main characters from the Two Rivers are trying to hit a middle spot between Dutch, New Zealand, Irish, and English, so I'm trying to get over expecting consistent accents. I'm so happy about almost everything else they're doing, I don't care much anymore. How do you have access to all the episodes??
so first off that makes sense and im gonna get over it. second off i do everything in my power to avoid media about this show to avoid spoilers and the last thing id read before release was (incorrect) information saying it was going to be released in two blocks not week to week. and i was so scared of spoilers i refused to even scroll down the episode list to check until recording this more people asked me this exact question. so long story short im just poorly informed 😂😂😂

i think youre right with your first guess. youre not the only person to feel like i was too critical this episode and im willing to chalk it up to just not being my favorite episode. they accidentally caught me with multiple things i was simply unable to grin and bear this time and the episode ends and im stuck with the parts that made me make noise 😂😂 still really enjoying the show in general
haha the problem being that i dont make ANY money on this stuff so spending money on upgrades etc rarely fits in the budget. I just use this webcam ive got i should do some research on what other people use it is a little embarrassing haha
I wish that they should have went with Semi-Regional costumes from a mixed-up world that emanated from a kinda Gothic-Punk civilization. You know like FINAL FANTASY.
thats more how i always imagined it myself but they went for more of an overall blend im finding interesting too. and im loving some of the more subtle decisions like the black/red cloak etc

Pretty sure we're only getting 8 Forsaken (s1e5) and one we're losing (Ishy has already replaced her role within the Seanchan) famously wore black just to be opposite to Lanfear's white. Without that dynamic and the uncharacteristic wanton cruelty we have seen from Lanfear, I'm feeling at this point they're combining them. Good job recognising the name of the yellow, not everyone does. All i know is when the "Bird" shows there better be a beak 😉 Some things i don't expect them to be able to pull off logistically (army of red/blonde haired 6' woman and 6'5" men lol) but there better be a beak, all I'm saying. As far as Mat goes, i see far too much hate over him from book readers which i really don't understand as let's face it, Mat was pretty much an unlikable dick through the first 2 books lol
youre not wrong on mat sucking til book three (at least maybe even book 4 if were being honest and not letting future mat color our vision). i think people are just scared that the showrunners will decide that they need to make one of the main characters evil? but at the same time at this point in the books the forsakens actions really are more about recruitment etc. it seems to me that the showrunners have elected to lean on suspense in the way jordan leans on the unreliable narrator. and given that we cant hear their thoughts etc its just less elegant how theyre forced to show us and i just need to be patient.
@@100Companions Yep sounds pretty accurate to me. I mean I knew going in this was not going to be an easy conversion. We're talking about going from a medium where RJ could dump 5 pages of information on us (granted a full page of that is most likely describing the wood used to make a chair in the room lol) and there might only be 1 paragraph of dialogue to a medium where just that paragraph of dialogue easts up a full minute of screen time. Sometimes, the show just has to be quick and dirty with it as they simply don't have the time to finesse everything in. The Mat is mine and Perrin being more wolf than man is exactly as you called it, unreliable narrator. It's just what Ishy thinks will happen but we both know that Perrin fights losing himself to the wolf for the whole series and Mat...well...he fights through the taint of SL and we learn very quickly that whatever comes out of his mouth is probably the exact opposite of what he actually does. You won't find me being stupid enough to be in a battle, no way, not this guy, I need to just worry about myself...next chapter there's Mat not only in a battle to save someone else but leading it lol

If i came across as more critical this ep thats fair i think more of that made its way into the final product as there was less action to dissect this episode and the whole seanchan bait and switch had me irked. but thats just how this episode made me feel as a book obsessive. Im stuck when its over with the parts that I felt like talking. and there were less crazy intros etc for me this week as everyone spoiled the aviendha reveal.

They made a conscious decision to not use the southern accent, they felt it was a bit too corny / distracting

haha the problem being that i dont make ANY money on this stuff so spending money on upgrades etc rarely fits in the budget. I just use this webcam ive got i should do some research on what other people use it is a little embarrassing haha

I wish that they should have went with Semi-Regional costumes from a mixed-up world that emanated from a kinda Gothic-Punk civilization. You know like FINAL FANTASY.
thats more how i always imagined it myself but they went for more of an overall blend im finding interesting too. and im loving some of the more subtle decisions like the black/red cloak etc
The costuming is great but I always viewed them as kind of Feudal Japanese.

Pretty sure we're only getting 8 Forsaken (s1e5) and one we're losing (Ishy has already replaced her role within the Seanchan) famously wore black just to be opposite to Lanfear's white. Without that dynamic and the uncharacteristic wanton cruelty we have seen from Lanfear, I'm feeling at this point they're combining them.

Some things i don't expect them to be able to pull off logistically (army of red/blonde haired 6' woman and 6'5" men lol) but there better be a beak, all I'm saying.
As far as Mat goes, i see far too much hate over him from book readers which i really don't understand as let's face it, Mat was pretty much an unlikable dick through the first 2 books lol
youre not wrong on mat sucking til book three (at least maybe even book 4 if were being honest and not letting future mat color our vision). i think people are just scared that the showrunners will decide that they need to make one of the main characters evil? but at the same time at this point in the books the forsakens actions really are more about recruitment etc. it seems to me that the showrunners have elected to lean on suspense in the way jordan leans on the unreliable narrator. and given that we cant hear their thoughts etc its just less elegant how theyre forced to show us and i just need to be patient.
@@100Companions Yep sounds pretty accurate to me. I mean I knew going in this was not going to be an easy conversion. We're talking about going from a medium where RJ could dump 5 pages of information on us (granted a full page of that is most likely describing the wood used to make a chair in the room lol) and there might only be 1 paragraph of dialogue to a medium where just that paragraph of dialogue easts up a full minute of screen time. Sometimes, the show just has to be quick and dirty with it as they simply don't have the time to finesse everything in.
The Mat is mine and Perrin being more wolf than man is exactly as you called it, unreliable narrator. It's just what Ishy thinks will happen but we both know that Perrin fights losing himself to the wolf for the whole series and Mat...well...he fights through the taint of SL and we learn very quickly that whatever comes out of his mouth is probably the exact opposite of what he actually does. You won't find me being stupid enough to be in a battle, no way, not this guy, I need to just worry about myself...next chapter there's Mat not only in a battle to save someone else but leading it lol
You did a lot of complaining this episode. If that's how you feel then fine. I like watching reactors who have fun and enjoy watching the series.
i think if you watch my reactions ive been very positive about this show. if you dont want my actual feelings then i suppose this isnt the channel for you? but im going to say what im thinking. Im reacting in the moment not planning commentary.
There's a million people on UA-cam who sit around and nitpick. I don't watch them cuz I can do that myself. You didn't start doing that until this episode. And It was the dreadlock comment that really put a bad taste in my mouth. I'll move on. Thank you.
@@seanlamont8501 me explicitly saying the dreadlocks are different but not a problem? yea i mean thats basically what i provide here i cant help but make book comparisons. and I dont think what i provided here is really very comparable to the people who are ragging on this show. If i came across as more critical this ep thats fair i think more of that made its way into the final product as there was less action to dissect this episode and the whole seanchan bait and switch had me irked. but thats just how this episode made me feel as a book obsessive. Im stuck when its over with the parts that I felt like talking. and there were less crazy intros etc for me this week as everyone spoiled the aviendha reveal.
