I got a Mavic a couple months ago after wanting a drone for years. And I fucking love that thing. In 2 months I've logged a little over 18 hours on it and covered close to 1 million feet. I think it takes great video, and I got use to the tap to focus thing pretty quick, I just pull that left trigger button frequently. I would like to fly the lamborghini Inspire though 😉
I own both and I agree 100% with everything you said. Sometimes I just want to get up in the air take a few shots with out being bothered. Whenever someone sees my Inspire, they automatically assume I am doing professional work and the bureaucracy starts. I really like the fact that my Mavic is portable and fun, I can't stress enough how big of a deal that is. I even use my Mavic for most of my professional work (weddings/real estate). The Mavic video has been good enough so far. In fact, if the Mavic 2 has a more durable gimbal and even slightly better video, my Inspire will be on eBay. Don't get me wrong, I like my Inspire and there are certain projects I probably couldn't do with my Mavic, albeit I have not found any, but my Inspire is too much to deal with most of the time. I have a friend whose in similar situation, he has a P4P and a Mavic, but he flies his Mavic most of the time.
The I1's camera is awesome..Yes, its work to setup, but theres a payoff..The Mavic is a more convenient flyer and easier to get in the air and its definitely fun to fly..But so is the big I1..Its flies so strong and solid and really feels powerful in your hands..Banking turns at 400 ft is an adrenaline rush..I have the both and will probably sell my I1 but it will be hugely missed..There is nothing like it.
If you don't know why you want the Inspire2, it's too much money. If you know why you want an Inspire2, it's the most amazing deal available. Was about to build a $12K bird to carry $10K of blackmagic.. Now I don't have to. The Mavic is a great platform, and I'm getting one of those too for all these reasons - but the camera systems aren't remotely comparable.
Awesome honesty! I can't stand folks who aren't real or honest. I didn't like the Inspire either. To big, to bulky, just overall boring. I know it's amazing for some folks, but not for me either. Mavic is good enough.
EXACTLY! Here, lets spend thousands of bucks on a drone that can't dodge a wall, or a bush, but lets create a sub 1000 drone (mavic), that's fully capable, easier to transport, easier to travel with, and lighter, and can get up and flying in seconds... compared to 5-10 minutes. Yeah, Mavic is where its at. I know you lose a little bit of camera quality, but i'd much rather miss a tiny bit of quality vs missing an entire shot due to setup time, and possible easy crash.
ooberwoot Not to mention the mavic and p4ps both have better battery life and cheaper batteries. I personally prefer the p4p, but the mavic is a great drone.
wrong about autofocus, you can turn the manual focus on and control it on a screen with your finger, i just discovered it and it is very usefull and easy and not annoying like auto.
I love my Mavic, but there was once when I spent a good amount of time getting to a location, and I must have forgotten to tap on the screen to auto focus, because when I got back I found that half of the footage was fine, but at one time during the flight I zoomed in and didn’t realise that when you zoom out again it’s best to tap the screen to alter the focus, as half the footage was then out of focus.
I would love to own a Lamborghini but I don’t drive well enough to make full use of its potential...same with drones, I’ll keep practicing and playing with my Mavic Pro and just keep dreaming about Inspires and other higher end toys
you sold me on an inspire 1 V2.0, i had actually been trying to decide between the 2 but i dont mind the big bulky stuff and the set up time. I also fly for fun. Great review!! 5/5
Thanks for this review. I've been debating these two (strictly in a business capacity) and your info has actually led me back to wanting an Inspire. The comment about "it's common sense" on the camera capabilities kind of sealed it in my head. I already have an f450 that I built with a GoPro on a 3 axis Zenmuse, so I really just want to move to an even better camera platform. I kind of tend to separate fun flying and photography by just flying race quads for fun and this sort of stuff just for video/images/business. If you just like flying I highly recommend learning to fly in rate/manual mode and giving a race quad a shot. It's definitely a challenge compared to all the assistance you get flying DJI stuff, but once you get decent at it nothing compares.
CP FPV reading your comment I believe you are making a great choice. I just uploaded a video recently with the standard X3 camera. One of the best features about the Inspire is being able to rotate the camera 360 or having a second pilot just work camera as oppose to having to work the drone to get shots. Since I switched the the Inspire 1 of my favorite features is simply this point camera aft side etc and fly straight effortlessly getting the shots I want as oppose to being a combat pilot and maneuvering around all my obstacles.
I'm considering buying an Inspire 1 version 2, I'm glad that you made clear that your review is based on your preference and usage. I wanna try the phantom 4 but the mavic pro is out of the running. Great review! Thanks.
Theorn Campbell mavic pro is still a really good drone, but the mavic is better than phantom 4 (not the phantom 4 pro) i hope u know that and the phantom 4 is older than the mavic pro
So far I'm good flying the Mavic Pro in my neighborhood (lives in the city); but NO WAY I can put a Inspire up in the air where I live without 50 people calling the police complaining! (I fly for fun, not really for cinematic reasons)
P4 is your best bet. Mavic is a toy. Inspire1 is a commercial grade drone. P4 camera has surpassed inspires x3 and x5. I'm sure Mavic is fun, but if you're looking to do work, get the best equipment you can afford. High winds can carry off a Mavic, but Inspire will not have any problems in high winds.
What the camera sees and what it transmits to you are really two different things if you know what I'm saying. The feed that you see could be broken up because it's having to travel to get to you but the camera is right there at the subject so therefore not broken up. So yes it is possible for the video that you see be broken up but on the sd card it should be fine. If not I would suggest you maybe try setting your download link inside the menu to 4mbps and try that.
Donald Knight thx for your comment that helps. I usually keep it on auto BUT I have played with them settings to try to get better reception. I also notice if I slow down the video in post it becomes smoother. I just don't understand why it's not smooth right out of the phantom/mavic on the sd card. Like i said, it records exactly what I see on the tablet. if the tablet is broken up so is the video I the sd card. Lol. I got to be doing something wrong. Ugh so frustrating. Michael
Please can you do a video on the different camera settings like raw and 4K at 30fps but you can also have it a 50fps. I don't understand it. Thanks I think your a great you tuber who deserves four million subs.
I agree Bro, the Inspire is not for me... there is a limit to size, despite functionality. I’m a hobbyist not a professional , so I’m good with Mavics..
Hey Jeremy, I loved your comparison between the two drones. I too have always wanted an inspire however, you made a lot of really good points on why I shouldn't buy one at this point in my life. Like you, I really don't need something, video wise, that good, right NOW!! Lol. ANYWAY, I really need help with something. I have a phantom 4 pro and love it HOWEVER, I video a lot in the city, because that's where I live, lol and there's a lot of interference with the video downlink that I see on my iPad mini 2 tablet. Everyone says don't worry that the video recording onto the sd card will be fine. BUT IT'S NOT! What I see on the tablet is what the sd card records from the drone. I'm a noobie so this may be a very stupid question but is that the way it's suppose to be? Another words if your flying in an area where there's a lot of interference and the video is going in and out, studdering, etc etc is that what's suppose to be recorded on the sd card? I have this problem on my mavic as well? AGAIN the area I fly in is a very populated city area, Philadelphia. FUNNY thing is sometimes it's fine?? I'm guessing it has to do with the amount of phones, internet, Phillies games, etc etc being used around the area of my flying at that time?? only my uneducated guess, lol. Hey, THANKS for any help with this problem or shared knowledge. I could use it. IT'S driving me NUTS! Michael.
You have a long comment lol but to comment on the recording thing.. NO what you see is not what is recorded. Your drone is recording directly to the SD card. You could lose connection and it would still record. Now if you are recording your smart phone screen as well, that would be another story.
I'm with you on this subject. I have an Inpsre1 Pro and Mavic Pro and I just love the Mavic Pro more because less people notice it. When I fly my Inspire1 Pro, it draws large crowds of people always!. At first I loved the attention the Inspire1 Pro got me, but now it's just annoying, the no one ever notices the Mavic Pro until it lands.
Hey Jeremy! Thanks for your awesome reviews, keep up the good work! I appreciate your honesty. Do you think that Mavic is good enough to be used to earn money with it ? I mean capturing videos at some events, weddings or just making some real estate air footages. I'm going to buy one of dji drones but I don't know which one to choose - Mavic Pro Platinum or Phantom 4.Pro. I'd honestly love to get Mavic. It's design appears super cool to me, which I can't say about P4P. It's so portable that I could take it on every holidays and I could even buy the fly more combo. But I'm aware of the fact that P4P has much better camera. I would be grateful for your reply.
I'm I reading the specs correctly? The Phantom 4 Pro has sensors on the front, rear, sides, and bottom, and the Inspire 2 just has sensors on the front and bottom?
It really doesn't need sensors all around. Instead of pointing the whole quad in the direction of the video, it can just point its camera in the right direction keeping the forward sensors forward.
I had Mavic Pro but I sold It after 2 month. 3 cell not so good in vind. And not best camera. Now I fly Phantom 4 whoo are graet. Tomorrow I go to post Office and pick up my New Inspire 1. And 24 Mai I order Dji Spark combo so I soon get It. 3 very diffrent drone. Maby I sell my Phantom. But I be in photo fore years and therfore Inspire 1 will be fantastic. 6 cell battery quick and strong.
its getting a little strange at this point. in the process of uploading a new video and I might just delete the one by the morning if it doesn't make it to 1080p.
Yeah usually UA-cam has 1080p up within about 15 min. Im in the process of editing a Mavic video right now. I hope I don't have any problems when I upload tonight. And btw the portability of the Mavic is so hard to top for me to go to a P4 or anything bigger at all.
ive got a phantom 3s at the moment and always thought one day i would upgrade to the phantom 4 but after seeing the mavic i think i would buy this instead
Leesa Drone depends. The p4p can handle wind better, faster, stronger, better battery life, more sensors, and a way better camera but the mavic is more foldable. Which one would you want
Ok ,, the mavic drone is for the persons can't afford the inspire done"".. Inspire is number one drone, just check the prices big diference,,I have both ,, but I have to say , I like mavic better 😀😀👍
Hi Jeremy. Really enjoyed the review and I feel the same as you do. I have thought about buying the Inspire for all the same reasons but was wondering about the size and whether it would be worth the money. I really like cinematic shots but I also like portability. I love my Mavic pro but for picture quality and also for the fun of just flying I have 4 Solo's by 3DR Robotics. Picture quality is fantastic. Just my two cents.

ooberwoot not to mention the inspire has no obstacle avoidance which for that money is pretty terrible

ooberwoot and the p4p has better camera quality as the inspire which is pretty sad.
ooberwoot the mavic is way better easy to carry take any were you, whant and it's quit small the best drone dji
This is the first time I've come across a UA-camr whose custom opening is something I really like. Wow.
means a lot thanks.
wrong about autofocus, you can turn the manual focus on and control it on a screen with your finger, i just discovered it and it is very usefull and easy and not annoying like auto.
I own both and they each serve thier individual purposes , great and very accurate review...
I fully understand what you are saying but i just got an Inspire 1 v2 and it's brutally cool..... so happy i didn't get an Phantom 4 or a Mavic :)
oh definitely understand. I want an inspire 2 just because its cool :)
Jeremy Judkins I got the mavic pro, I've could have get the inspire 1, worth it?😬😁
Lumoid doesn't have many drones for rent anymore, all they have is the phantom 4 and lessons.
And another great video Jeremy!!
I have phantom 4 pro, only used it 5 times in two months I had it. I like it a lot but it's to big to carry around reason why I don't use it much.
I would love to own a Lamborghini but I don’t drive well enough to make full use of its potential...same with drones, I’ll keep practicing and playing with my Mavic Pro and just keep dreaming about Inspires and other higher end toys
you say you don't need it ! But you want it !! get inspire 2 . dream come true.
mavic is a brilliant machine, video and pictures are quite amazing, the inspire 2 probably are for people in the film industry.
you sold me on an inspire 1 V2.0, i had actually been trying to decide between the 2 but i dont mind the big bulky stuff and the set up time. I also fly for fun. Great review!! 5/5
LOVE IT JEREMY; RAMBLE ON.
Use the C1 button for focus. I find that much easier than tapping the screen.
Great Insights! Much Appreciated! Very Refreshing!

I have gotten the inspire setup and breakdown to a science now and I have only had it for 3 days. I plan to do some aerial photography.
I can get my inspire in the air super fast
I'm considering buying an Inspire 1 version 2, I'm glad that you made clear that your review is based on your preference and usage. I wanna try the phantom 4 but the mavic pro is out of the running.

Good job! Nice talk! Size does matter, smaller better. some things show what you know and some show what you've goT......Cheers!
You mentioned the sensor being bigger in the inspire x3 . This is not the case .The DJI x3 sensor: Sony EXMOR 1/2.3" CMOS
P4 is your best bet. Mavic is a toy. Inspire1 is a commercial grade drone. P4 camera has surpassed inspires x3 and x5. Jeremy Judkins THANKS for your reply. SORRY you had to read my long ass comment. Lol lol. I may have two dudes. Ugh
MICHAEL
I’m gonna get magic pro over phantom 4 it’s better in every aspect expect a slightly better camera on phantom 4
Here in Norway you even need a license to fly a inspire because of the weight...
If you Inspire is a Ferrari, I wouldn't call the Mavic a Civic or Jetta. I'd say it's more like a new Corvette.
Awesome video. I wish I had a Mavic!
Thanks, I will for sure check it out!
Good video
I'm with you on this subject. I have an Inpsre1 Pro and Mavic Pro and I just love the Mavic Pro more because less people notice it. Inspire 2 way to go with 360 camera rotation, 2 pilots, and 57 mph

If you are going to be charging people for your work, then I would strongly suggest the P4P.
also, try adjusting your sharpness one point to get better image in DJIgo.

how is the inspire 1? I want it for professional videography
I wouldn't piss on an inspire if it was on fire!!
Not really sure comparing them as Lamborghini vs civic. More like ford raptor vs kawasaki h2.
Damn UA-cam, Let Jeremy get have 1080p!
its getting a little strange at this point. in the process of uploading a new video and I might just delete the one by the morning if it doesn't make it to 1080p.

RICHON1979 vhbjuybdhnh
Do you have your part 107 commercial license
Nice Ariel plug , LOL
Maybe yuneec will send you a drone to review
i would consider the mavic.. the mercedes version.. not more so a jetta
I want to record in 4k 60fps, is that even possible?
inspire 2 pro :) shoots 60fps 4k
Ghosttjr2 bvvvv
For the difference in price the Mavic pro is a FAR better drone with nearly the same features and functions.
Yeah you rent it, then if you crash it, your fucked
Thanks. Sense this video I picked up the Phantom 4 Professional, and really enjoy the image quality it can produce.
MAVIC!!!!
Insiper 1 pro x5
The case is not huge. You are just tiny.. hhahaha
Will he pin this?
no lol
Great vid
