GOTG Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse both performed well. I don't think people have comic book movie fatigue in general. They're tired of formulaic, poorly-written ones.
I've recently seen both those two, Fast X, Hypnotic, John Wick 4 and today the Flash. Unfortunately all of them aren't great. From poor visual effects to in the case of all but one being either sequels or a spin off that just aren't as good as the earlier films. I wonder if pandemic production disruption was to blame ? Several also had other hurdles to overcome in production for one reason or another. I would rate John Wick 4 as the best of an average bunch. Even then it isn't as good as previous films. Hoping quality improves soon
There’s definitely some general fatigue it will be more noticeable in marvel movies now that gotg and spiderman both are taking longer breaks.
@@MatthewBreck As I mentioned above. The films I've seen recently just aren't hitting the target. The majority are sequels that get nowhere near the earlier films. Pacing seems to be off on them as well. Almost as if they are made by committee and a tick sheet of what they think the audience wants. Not sure what's going on with the VFX quality at the moment as well. A big step backwards on a technical level
@@robsmall6466 You lost me on John Wick 4 and aren't great...
Amen and hallelujah to that
Not really a surprise to be honest, I’m just worried about the future of DC films more than anything, cause hearing James Gunn talk about those characters on Michael Rosenbaums podcast, it seems like he really understands them, but now I’m worried that those plans might not go anywhere, hopefully I’m wrong.
Gunn might understand them - I don't, and I'm the one among many who pays his salary. Or not. Definitely not. DCU is dead to me.
Most people that I know didn't watch the movie because they didn't want to support Ezra Miller because you know... he's a criminal.
Most ppl meaning the articles or video that gave you the opinion you have.
Same, I work in the entertainment industry and none of the people I work with went to go see it; I was the only one. And I only did so because of Michael Keaton, had he not been in it, it would have been the first DC film I refused to see.
@@lilkev101kev2I mean there are videos out there of him choking a woman you dumba$$.. y’all will make an excuse for anyone these days. If Ezra was black you would call all of us racist instead. Can’t argue with idiots like you
I was about to get opening night tickets a few weeks back and was really looking forward to this movie. Then the Dylan Mulvaney Bud Light thing happened, then I saw the footage of Ezra giving the police a hard time and became disgusted with where we are right now as a country. I really want a good superhero flick to see over and over again but the lead character is disgusting…forget it. I’ll rewatch Batman ‘89 or The Dark Knight at home instead.
Yep
Always love to see a flick pick video on a friday!!!
Not just comic book fatigue, but multiverse fatigue 😵💫
Ezra Miller fatigue, hes terrible in the role and in real life.
This. Although I loved Across the Spiderverse. I am ready for more grounded, self contained movies though.
As you said, during the pandemic people got so used to watching movies in the comfort of their homes. With that being the case, a movie has to deliver a truly amazing theatrical experience to draw in an audience; Top Gun: Maverick, Spider-Man: No Way Home, even Avatar: The Way of Water all delivered that.
Unless your movie is just amazing (Which The Flash really isn't) it just isn't going to do well. Audiences do have much higher standards for movies these days and aren''t just going to settle for whatever mediocrity Hollywood can throw at them.
You say John that after the pandemic that people just didn't want to go to the theatres anymore, yet Spider-Man: No Way Home and Top Gun: Maverick both made over 1.5 BILLION each. Dr. Strange 2 made almost a billion as well.
Edit: Thank you to the people who pointed out Mario Bros and Avatar 2 as well. A billion ans 2 billion dollar movie.
And also the Mario bros movie made 1.3 billion
I've gone to the theatre more in the last year than I did in the 10 years previous to the pandemic.
@@azariahpage7351 Avatar: The Way of Water made £2.3bn
Avatar 2 also made 2.3 billion, plus Mario making 1.3 billion
I hate the excuse of the pandemic changing how people see movies. No it didn't. People will still fill theatres for movies they want to see. Studios aren't making enough movies that people want to spend their money on. That's it.
I think it’s the fact that a reboot was announced before these last DC film, and kinda said that those movies don’t matter anymore.
General audiences have never really cared about the DCEU, I doubt they even know about the reboot. If you’re a DC fan I can’t fathom why you wouldn’t go see a Flash movie, we’ve been waiting our whole lives for it.
@@PietotheskyIt's the shitty divide that DC fans have right now. They can't just enjoy a film, everything is a personal attack. No Snyder BOYCOTT! No Cavill.... BOYCOTT!! No Batfleck, BOYCOTT!!! It's literally hilarious considering The Flash, despite all of its problems in production is still a much better movie than anything Zack Snyder released under DC.
@@razzprince2877lmao true, me personally, I JUST WANT TO SEE A GOOD DC MOVIE.
There’s a number of reasons. I think that you can break it down into two parts. People have issues with the film in one form or another. They don’t like the lead actor, the film is set in a dying franchise, they’re not happy with Warner Brothers, it’s not reviewing well so people aren’t going. The marketing is meh. Whatever it is, this movie just isn’t attracting the people.
Second is less about superhero movie fatigue rather than changes in audience habits and the quality of the experience. Post pandemic, the experience of going to a movie isn’t quite the same. Prices are higher, and it just feels like the quality of mainstream movies has dropped. So why would people spend a lot of money to go to the movies when they can just wait to see it at home for significantly less? And people are willing to go when it’s worth it. Look at Top Gun: Maverick. It was a great movie, and it excelled at the box office and got people excited. But Marvel’s been dropping the ball, The DCEU is a train wreck, and the studios aren’t willing to try new things with smaller budgets, it’s gotta make a billion dollars, and start a multibillion dollar franchise or it’s “not worth it”.
Honestly, people are getting fatigued by mediocre movies, and overpriced theatre experiences. Make good movies that are worth our money, people will go watch. Make things that are just ok, people won’t spend the extra cash.
Also, the movie (and most recent blockbusters) was over budgeted. With a budget between $200M to $300M, The Flash needs to make at least $500M.
I do know a lot of people who won't go see The Flash bc of Ezra Miller so there definitely is that.
Two Words EZRA MILLER
No it’s the DCEU. It happened with Black Adam, then Shazam2 … now with The Flash … they should have kept Snyder’s vision … without that it’s just people in sweat suits trying to do what MCU is doing … they cannot. MCU is a monster that has the fun superhero universe cinematic already down Pat. They should have kept the serious and epic nature of Snyder’s vision.
How do you explain Shazam 2 and Black Adam bombing? Most people don't even know Ezra Miller by name or his crimes. Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 will also bomb.
@@laverdadescatolica5 that's another possibility of them murdering the Snyderverse but this movie in particular was already doomed from the get go, due to Ezra's behavior they fucked up they're movie
99% of people I know (casual audiences) had no clue about his personal issues nor do they care or it didn't impact their decision to see the film.
@@theFLICKpick exactly! It’s about the suits at WBD destroying the SnyderVerse.
For me it's the cost of seeing movies now. Me and the wife and two kids going to see a movie is nearly $100 before you add in snacks. So the movie needs to be pretty compelling for me to do that.
That is absolutely insane to me. My wife and I live in Thailand and we can go see a movie for about 8 dollars combined... I don't know how people in the west afford to do anything anymore.
here in Vietnam i can go watch a movie on certain day with only 2 dollars if i carry a student id card
Fandango has The Flash tickets as Buy 1 Get 1 Free. That's how bad it got already.
In my opinion, biggest mistake dceu made was rebooting before 4 movie came out. After that news people think "Why I have to watch them? They gonna ends and nothing connects to future dcu film anyway."
The OGs remember swinny TODD 💀 RIP
Carrie fisher died 7 years 6.5 years ago. Holy shit, how long did it take for that film to come out.
That’s what I was thinking. How was that made when Fisher died years ago?
Went with friends to see The Flash today. Didn't have much expectations, but from the start to finish, it was superb. We all loved it. If it's not doing so well, could one reason be all these accusations against Ezra Miller put people off? I felt his portrayal was excellent. Now tv or movies don't make me cry, but when adult Barry was hugging his mum as he knew he wouldn't see her again, found myself a but tearful as I lost my mum 37 years ago & still miss her.
Exactly! And look, I love the criticism just as much as anybody else from critical drinker to neurotic, but when we keep bashing the movies over and over again and nitpick it for everything and then we get low numbers, what do we expect?
I can't dissociate Ezra Miller as a criminal.
Now you have multiples of the criminal in the movie 😂
I Just don’t wanna go cinema during summer, I wanna be outside enjoying the English sun
"Some poor dude", it sure looks like you are struggling based on your room in the background
Always love to see a flick pick video on a magical Friday
they showed everything throughout 7 trailers
I liked the movie. It's a shame that it's failing because it is Michael Keaton's last appearance as batman.
Watching him stitch himself up with that “I missed this” look and hearing those “we can’t bring you back, can we?” “You already did” lines made me tear up.
You have to ask yourself the question what did Barry learn by the end of the film. Answer: literally nothing. Barry should of ultimately realised that he can't change history because it has serious consciences. That should of been his arc. Also the other Barry was extremely annoying at times & some of the CGI in the film wasn't up the scratch either. Great vid John 😊
Last week I went to Supanova (Australian version of ComicCon). That was a real eye opener to me about how far the superhero genre has fallen in popularity. For the past ten years that I've been going, it's all been superhero cosplay everywhere. This year hardly any. There were still a few superheroes walking around (mostly older guys) but mostly it was Japanese stuff, especially with the younger people. I wouldn't call it superhero "fatigue" - I think the audience has simply moved on. That was the proof to me. There will still be an occasional hit superhero movie, but the genres heyday is well and truly over. It was going to happen sooner or later.
Good. MCEU and DCU got arrogant raking billions per movie and thought these earnings were here to stay.
NEWSFLASH: it's all over now, back to normal earnings.
Matt Reeves Batman is literally the only comic book related thing I give a shit about 😂
They’ve been failing ever since BvS which made $800mil but the vocal minority bitched enough that WB changed got cold feet. Before BvS was released the studio was praising it and gave it a standing ovation and then when the backlash started, WB totally abandoned Snyder’s plan for the DCEU including the JL trilogy and solo movies like Cyborg, Flash and GL. They started interfering and changing their DC movies while they were being made, even used Snyder’s daughters death as an easy excuse to fire him.
Then the studio total rehaul of employees after the failing of 2017 Josstice league and fighting with fans about the Snyder cut existing.
We went from Geoff John’s being the new head of DC, then we went to HBO and all this shit and they were gonna save the DCEU and then the Rock was gonna be the head of DCEU and brought Henry back just to fire him again…it’s literally just so much stupid shit that literally originated from people that cried and cried about BvS.
1) Ezra Miller being a POS and criminal in real life
2) No cares about the DCEU. Every film since Aquaman has flopped
3) The upcoming James Gunn reboot
4) A lot of competition especially from Across the Spider-Verse
5) Marketing went hard on Keaton's return. However the last time he played Batman was in 1992. Why would Keaton's return mean anything to the teens/20-somethings who make up the bulk of the movie going audience?
6) The last time Flash was on the big screen was in 2017's Josstice League which also flopped.
You're correct with 2 and 3 but wrong about the rest.
6) the movie will be on HBO Max in 3 weeks. (Or at least some time really soon)
@@BishopWalters12lol he was spot on
@@kingslim2870 Nope
@@BishopWalters12 yeah, if you don’t got reasons you should prolly shut it lol
Thanks for the video John I always appreciate your thoughtful, insightful comments
That mystical movie wonderwell is gonna be soooo good.
John you’re still a hunk after all these years
Why did The Flash bomb? Hmmmm let’s see…
1. Problematic lead
2. It’s ANOTHER superhero movie and ANOTHER movie about the multiverse
3. Dc has consistently put out mediocre content ever since they started their cinematic universe
4. Movies in general have gotten more expensive to see and the quality has noticeably went down
5. We know the universe is getting rebooted
6. People have grown custom to watching premiere movies at home.
7. It came out after Spider Verse, which is without a doubt the best movie of the year
….. besides all that, I don’t know man 🤷♂️ might have to call Batman to solve this difficult mystery
I wonder if there's one more reason. The Flash TV show ended last month after a long, slow decline. Someone who is just a general movie goer may think "This is a film based on a TV show that I don't watch. Why bother?".
This movie started off pretty entertaining, but the third act and ending was pretty depressing and dark. Keaton and Sasha Calle's Supergirl are brutally killed by Zod multiple times until they give up because Zod always wins in that universe. The original ending reported by THR where Keaton, Supergirl, Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill join Barry at the courthouse would've been amazing tbh.
I just saw the movie yesterday
It was incredible
Iam kinda surprised it bombed.
In Germany the cinema was also not really packed
Maybe like 30 persons in a cinema which can hold around 400
They had one of the best DC plot handed to them. All they had to do is copy paste comic or animated version and they print money.
I pre booked this movie on opening day and my theatre was not even excited for batman scenes. Had way better theatre experience with spiderman movie. It sucks for me coz I am a big DC fan and they such great stories yet somehow they make these medeocre live action movies with such high big budgets
Sounds like a descent hypothesis. Good to see you man!
This movie felt like a parody, like an SNL skit. Can’t believe it’s real.
Two words. Ezra Miller.
Incorrect. His issues never made national news. Only us movie nerds knew it
@@Skeletal33 movie nerds? as in the ones that pay to watch the movie? yeah... Ur incorrect, kid... Hes the main reason why people didnt watch it.
I agree. It's hard to watch him.
I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WONDERWELL. It is my most anticipated film of all time.
I wasn't expecting too, but I really liked it.
Where are u working now?
I'm over anything multiverse
1:10 This is disproven because across the spiderverse is doing great
And so is transformers
I loved it.
I enjoyed it.
1) hero fatigue
2) it's "the flash"
3) wait for streaming
4) minus keaton would be much worse
The only comic book movie with substance in the past 5 years is The Batman
- James Gun Reboot
- 7 Delays in 5 years
- Ezra Millar Drama
- Dc Haters
- Spiderverse and other films are coming out
- people are broke in june
- Reshoots
- Garbage Modern Day superhero films
- WB Interferance with this movie. And 80% of dc movies in the past
What’s your full time job?
WB announcing reboot in the middle of upcoming 3 films is a big mistake and lack of press, Ezra Miller stuff damaged it's box office
Really loved this movie
Also, I reckon the previews had a big part of it.
I really liked this movie.
Who was crying at this movie besides the CGI lol
This is my favourite comic book film since The Batman
Because they didn’t wait until these last few DCEU films to come out before hiring James Gunn and having him put the nail in the coffin for this current run of films.
John, UA-cam doesn’t deserve you 💪
Full time job?
Please tell me you drive one of those yellow school buses?
You forgot the real main reason, Ezra Miller.
You’re working a full time job now? Any of your recent livestreams where you’ve elaborated on this? Haven’t watched the last couple
All I know is why I didn’t go and that’s comic book movie fatigue. Even my desire to see a Keaton didn’t override that. Still, I’ll watch when it comes to my tv, I’m just not spending that much time and money for a movie I might like.
The character portrayed Asperger's Syndrome in the beginning honestly and I took a nap in the middle woke up to CGI fight scene that made me almost get up and leave
They're so desperate already, Fandango is now selling Flash tickets: Buy 1 ticket, Get 1 one Free. If the Theater owners can at least sell some popcorn and sodas, it helps cut their losses at least.
That film was epic one of the best batman scenes in all of cinema super girl was brilliant flash was meh and also the cameos from other sup versions was brilliant overall great movie cant believe it flopped
Also don't forget this is still An Origin movie haven't had a major flash with me yet it was only going to do so well
This movie was truly amazing funny as hell great action scenes Micheal Keaton was a complete savage it was amazing to see nicholas cage as superman and also see George Clooney at the end yall are twisted over some cgi
I said from the begging I think it was just a money back invested type release. The majority of people didn't want to support the lead actor but this was a necessary stop to change the universe.
Apart of it is that there were was a new blockbuster movie coming out every week. Not giving enough time between then gave audience movie fatigue. If it would have came out mid summer it would have done better.
whats ur full time job now John?? 😱😱
I just wait to release on max either
The AMC where I live renovated while the pandemic was going on to the heated recliner chairs and such. So it’s much improved in quality. I honestly think Flash was better than any Justice League movie regardless of cut.
Better than Justice League isn't saying much.
I respect everyone opinions, but I respectfully disagree. I hardly felt any thrill at watching that movie. Even the Batman scenes were mediocre at best.
I agree with you John I would watch the flash then joss Justice League version
Flash is a good movie regardless of it's Box Office performance....
Bro making a 2 plus minute ad for a 6 minute video :(
I don’t think you can have a general reasoning as to why it bombed. I think the flash just isn’t a popular enough superhero to carry its own movie. I personally watched it only for Batman (i’m a 90s kid). I asked my nephews who are 20 and 21 if they will watch the flash and they were not keen at all. I asked not even for michael keaton batman and they were like who?
i thought this movie came out last year. theres been so much news about the actor.
Ok so let me put this in to context for people.
The flash did not cost 200 million, closer to 300-350 million.
However that’s is a pinch to what they have lost in the last week. WBD has lost 18% of their stock value in in 11 days. What does this mean, a company that’s is currently valued at approximately 28 billion, now has 50 billion debt and has lost 18% of their value which means they are now in 2x more debt than the company is worth.
The Flash May loose 300 million dollars but the stock drop has wiped close to 6billion from their market value. Champagne 🥂 anyone.
This Kama, fired Cavill, lied and absolutely treated him like Sh1t!! A gentleman and role model. Yet they retained, protected and publicly supported a vile pathetic stain who’s attacked multiple people including women.
Reap it WBD,,, reap it!
Love you John, never change… even if that means never wearing pants inside
Hi John. Hope you are doing well. Livestream soon?
LOL, when I look at that fairy tale movie with the well it totally reminds me of Inuyasha!!
One thing that hurts some movies for me is getting bombarded from people talking about it before the release. People review movies weeks before they come out and there’s spoilers and expectations. I just don’t get excited about the actual movie.
Half assed CGI. Worse when the director tried to say it was SUPPOSED to look like that. Also Ezra Miller.
I think people are just done with the DCEU. The batman made a lot of money
What kinda work u doin?
imho its several reasons. 1: Ezra Miller not being canceled for all the crazy stuff he has done. 2: people know that this movie and the upcoming aquaman movie will be the end complete end of the DCEU era we know. 3: I think most people are just not interested in James Gunn's DCEU reboot.
Movies just aren’t making money the way they used to only a select few to be honest the Flash is not a superhero that a lot of people are familiar with like they are with Batman and The Avengers. Also Ezra Miller really made it a film that some people just couldn’t support.
I think the fact that audiences have been made aware that this film is essentially inconsequential to the soon to be rebooted DC universe, leaves them with little desire to see it. I don't think the Ezra Miller publicity helped. However, when it comes down to it, the majority of movie goers that make the bulk of the box office revenue, likely are unaware of both of those things. Frankly I think people just aren't interested based on the trailers they've seen. Bringing back Keaton isn't enough to suck people into the cinema, and if anything confuses the average joe who doesn't understand why he's in the movie or why they should care. Plus why see The Flash, when a far superior superhero movie (also multiverse movie) is playing on the next screen?
My question again, how is the number 1 movie in America considered "a bomb" ?
Lol The Flash needs to make way more than 265-400 million to break even much less turn a profit
So the way flash ended who beat Zod if Superman doesn’t exist?
I've probably seen a dozen plus thinkpiece videos in why the flash movie is bombing so hard and not a single person has the balls to just say "it's because Ezra Miller is a horrible human being and the public do not want to support him"
Unfortunately you won't see a lot of that because he falls under a "particular demographic" now. Or, at least he claims to.
I didn't like him in any those movies to start with. Ditto for Batfleck, Jared Leto, Amber Heard, Jessie Eissenberg, Ray Risher etc all around horrible casting.
I think Ezra Miller’s controversial history along with competition from Spider Man Across the Spider Verse and even Transformers Rise of the Beasts
I think it's just because June is so crowded with movies and people would rather watch across the spider verse or transformers rise of the beasts
I think the whole resetting of the DC universe just has it so people don't care for dc movies right now. Atleast personally I dont care for them even though I was a big fan.
Once DC reboots ill check them out.
I am curious about checking out blue beetle as I want to support the risker comic movies to encourage studios to take risks. Hopefully that one is good
People are sick of multiverse movies 🍿
I think you listened to my advice Flicky (via my Krazy Kajeevie account) with pumping out short, sharp great content and get back on top...
What you've produced here is fantastic...punchy, fun, sharp effective...
Exactly advice I gave you...Could be coincide but we were in conversation about it in comments in another video.
Dude, you're a star, great appeal, fun, honest and you should be bigger than boring sell out StuckUPmann and Jahns, who does nothing new.
Flicky Flickinger is coming back, even with his pants off 🤪🤣🤣
Keep going buddy, you belong here, not in some bs day job....Keep pumping these videos out and you'll kill it bro.
Your Aussie honest buddy - Krazy Kajeevie- The James Bond Show & Krazy Kajeevie channel.
PS - I'm seeing The Flash next week, with expectations low.
Miller is a huge reason it's tanking...Christian audiences abd conservatives (I'm both) are talking about this and Miller creeps us out.
You're right too, Netflix etc is killing cinema ticket sales, hence we all need to get out and support cinema....
Now quit that FT job and do this full time...Also what's your postal address to send you a gift for an unboxing video like you used to do?
Everyone who reads this, let's send Flicky a gift 😁 📦
This movie was destined to fail. Had so many things against it. 1. Ezra Miller - All the stupid things he did plus ppl had a better Flash elsewhere. 2. DCEU: The entire thing made ppl lose interested in it plus changing to James Gunn also damaged the movie and anything else left in the DCEU. No one wants to invest in something that is gonna get rebooted anyways. 3. The movie was mediocre at best and ppl aren’t going to leave the house for mediocre.
You're mostly correct but most people don't know Miller by name or his crimes. It's all about the DCEU being a cancelled universe and everyone knows that Gunn is just going to reboot the whole thing. These movies are pointless.
It’s not Ezra if majors gets convicted ppl will still see him in avengers if they keep him
I enjoyed the movie. You gotta be able to seperate the art from the artist. I thought it was by far, the best DC movie in a very long time
The DCEU is a cancelled universe and most people feel like it's pointless to check it out in theaters. Same thing will happen to Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2.
It's failing at the box office because WB did not listen to the fans and didnt replace that looney who is the star that guy is a mess and it effected both this and the last fantastic beasts movie as well
