Did anyone else notice that most of these "Fails" refer to studio interference, rewrites, and reshoots? It's almost like studio's micromanaging their filmmakers is always a bad thing or something!
More likely, studios interfere and reshoot movies because they're bad to begin with. And many movies have re-writes and even re-shoots, that's part of the process.
@@magic75450 I agree that it's part of the process, but there's a big difference between studios making small improvements and them completely redoing most of the movie.
I am of the impression that the director is hired for a reason. They should let him do his job. Studios should be true to the original vision. Producers should stay out of it, unless feedback is requested. All a producer should contribute is money. If the producer wants to direct he should just direct. People who do both should do one or the other. Just my opinion.
Interesting list. Of the bunch, I only saw Final Fantasy (hated it) and The Alamo(okay) at the theater. I eventually saw Evan Almighty and A Christmas Carol on cable TV. Of the 22 movies, at least half are remakes or reworks of stories and movies already done, sometimes multiple times, in some cases much better. Old stories being retold, just because some Hollywood bigwigs and special effects experts were ready to pour millions into new dead end movies. Ben-Hur with Charlton Heston is a timeless classic. There's no amount of money and special effects you can use to make a better version. The fact that even I, with my limited movie experience, had sense enough to avoid seeing the vast majority of these movies is telling. If I could see these movies were bombs without wasting my time to pay to see them, why weren't the Hollywood experts able to see? I could have saved the studios millions of dollars if they had just run the ideas for these movies by me first.
A lot of these movies are pretty good, they just didn't make enough money. If I find it entertaining i don't care what anyone says about it. I liked the Lone Ranger. It done its job. on a character that mostly baby boomers remember.
I saw “Titan A.E.” at a special screening before it was released. LOVED IT. Bought the comic prequels, the soundtrack, and got the movie on DVD! In fact, I’m going to watch it NOW! 😎👍
I LOVE John Carter. I think it's actually a really solid movie with a great script and excellent use of world building to learn the world of Barsoom as the story unfolds. I love how it takes the time to introduce John Carter to the inhabitants of Barsoom and how they learn to work together throughout the film. I find the special effects / CGI to be absolutely beautiful and the use of color breathtaking at times. More people should give it a chance. I liked Titan A. E. As well but I was 10 years old when I first saw that.
I agree, I don't think of it as a fail, I loved it and still watch it to this day. Many people don't know, but a lot of writers got inspired by the books of John Carter and turned their writings into tons of money and movie deals. So it's great to see where some of these writers got their ideas from.
@@giltyascharged They barely advertised it. I didn't hear about it until after I heard how "bad" it was. When I watched it for the first time on DVD I was blown away as well. The scene where John Carter relived the deaths of his wife and daughter while turning back to fight the Warhoon to protect Dejah Thoris was powerful.
I love, LOVE, Titan AE. One of the few Western animated films not aimed entirely at kids. Great art, great voice acting, great soundtrack. Shame it didn't do so well. I enjoyed Final Fantasy too - it was a pretty amazing experience technically, even though the movie itself moved along a bit too slowly... certainly enjoyed it a lot more than many "must see Blockbuster" movies anyways.
Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Sinbad, road to El Dorado, and Titan A.E. are all masterpieces that need a lot more love. I wish all of these movies would get more love and attention.
Same here, I still watch it when I can, regardless of the time of year. Its really well animated and has a dark edge to it that really makes it stand out.
@@dannyseville2543 & don’t forget about the excellent cast! Jim Carey does great motion capturing and voicing Scrooge, the 3 ghosts of Christmas, & Gary Oldman as Bob Cratchit & Jacob Marley. The entire cast behind that movie is great. Also great animation (& especially mind blowing motion capture) which still holds up even to this very day!!
John Carter and Sinbad are great entertaining movies with a surprising amount of heart. If you haven't I recommend both as a double feature. So much fun.
It amazed me how badly they missed the point of Mulan in the remake. Its as if they didnt even bother to watch the original. Giving her special powers completely ruins the whole point. She isnt special, shes a normal girl, and THAT IS the point.
I hear you. Original Mulan had to struggle and work extra hard to overcome her physical limitations. Using a combination of sheer bloody minded determination, brains and a bit of luck she had a great impact on everyone around her. New Mulan is special, no struggle, no obstacles to overcome, just her with her Chi and being a stronk whaman.
@@angusng816 that is because audiences perhaps don’t like all their classic villains to be redeemed. Some of them we love to hate, especially in an era when there is a distinct lack of good villains in Disney movies.
I was mad they didn't even bring back Mushu... I heard that some countries ban movies with talking animals, but imo, the music and that silly dragon made Mulan worth watching. And I never saw it until a few years ago. The live action was horrible, and I kinda stopped watching pretty quick. XD
Seeing Sinbad on here was a major stunner to me. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, but for whatever reason, it was an absolute favorite of mine as a child, only beat by Finding Nemo. I probably watched it over 100 times. I honestly do not know why. It just made me love it. So seeing it now, I’m surprised to see how hard it bombed. I’m jokingly telling myself that child me would have made it turn a profit at the box office.
I was a kid in the 80s and Disney was releasing bomb after bomb (even Tron bombed, most people don’t remember that), and I love most of their movies from that era, like Dragonslayer.
What this list tends to show is we don’t want endless remakes, endless sequels and if you make an animated movie, it better be really good as these seem to be surprisingly expensive to make

I actually enjoyed Mars Needs Moms. When I was a kid, the scene where the aliens killed Gribble's mother in the flashback scene was one of the scariest scene I've ever seen. I feel so bad for Gribble 😭
Final Fantasy spirit's within was a underrated jem. I liked its apocalyptic setting. And the aliens were cool too. Wish the games would have had a similar story.
@@JW-el5cy if you search on Google it said on prime video, but funny thing is I searched for it on the app it doesn't exist. I to check on other streaming service it's not there, last place is play store and it's there, you can rent or buy it.
@@alexmarsalis1690 I tried reading it but stopped at "why did I have to go down to the bogs, it isn't fair! I thought the character was a bit childish. Or do I need to keep reading?
@@TiggerTron I do not know where that is in the book. But I think the character grows up pretty fast in in the first book. It is character development.
0:41 I saw this movie only because one of my _AWESOME_ highschool teachers rented out 3 school buses, and drove us to the Menlo Park Mall Movie Theater during the school day and paid for seniors to see it himself. His name was Mr. Maginn. He taught History and looked like actor Jack Davenport.
the action and special effects was good, but that should be expected from a 2019 big budget action film. It was three main things that doomed the movie: 1. story, 2. Arnold Schwarzenegger has aged out of the roll 3. woke/ political messaging. Killing JC was definitely a turnoff but that could be included as problematic writing/storyline
@@nosexinviolence.3358 I think they should have kept John Connor alive and just combined the stories. A new mission of sorts. Rather than kill him off, and replace with all female. That never works. Why not include rather than replace?
0:42 Titan AE 1:50 Final Fantasy The Spirit Within 2:58 The adventures of pluto nash 3:50 sinbad 5:09 the Alamo 6:14 the stealth 7:22 poseidon 9:34 speed racer 10:39 a Christmas carol 13:07 mars needs moms 15:20 the lone ranger 17:42 pan 18:55 Ben Hur 20:02 king Arthur 21:12 mortal engines 22:30 terminator dark fate 23:38 mulan and wonder Woman 25:22 chaos walking
I have a lot to say, I saw stealth in theaters with a girl I was seeing then and it blew my mind that when we watched it we were the only 2 at the theater, I also saw Evan Almighty in theaters. Secondly, I am surprised Cats wasn't 2019s biggest bomb and crazy that Tom Holland was in 2021s biggest bomb and biggest Box Office winner.
Top gun on its era already good..in 2005,stealth action and cgi is really good since not many movie at that time show about airplane or jet..nowdays we got maverick back...but still i love all kind of jet fighter/dogfight movie..
Terminator: Dark Fate broke our childhood, they messed up original storyline about terminator, they messed up every character, and before that we got terminator genesys who broke everything too, its like wtf is going on..
Ignoring all other things, they definitely did at least one cinema sin. They invalidated THE POINT of all the other movies. If we could just casually replace John Connor then why the fuck did they even bother with the activities in the first three movies? All these people defending it are reaching HARD here to award it anything.
I watched Poseidon when it came out and remember thinking the effects were well done, but I didn't know it got the Oscar nod. I do think it is underrated, especially when compared to all the other 2000s disaster movies that came out back then. It also still holds up today, which tells me it just had bad luck, which happens to some good movies. Sadly, I don't think it will get "found" like Clue or Shawshank did, and while I would never say it is as good Shawshank, I think it is about on par with a Clue.
In this list John Carter and Mortal engines were amazingly entertaining high fantasy concepts. Its sad that these flopped but both of these are cult classics and deserve a second chance.
It was a sick film for the time I admit I went into the cinema thinking it was a final fantasy game film if you get me but even tho it wasn't I still enjoyed it
My biggest problem with the movie was how overpowered the ghosts were. They just casually touch you and you die lol, it's like playing an arcade coin eater in the 70's. Like some people died by ACCIDENTALLY BUMPING INTO THEM.
About Terminator, I must say, I was surprised that the one re-appearance I loved the most, was actually Linda Hamilton. Loved her performance as Sarah Connor, in all movies.
@@redbear1935 yeah, but the writers are more at fault with the story and direction they have been going the last two films. Women in leading roles aren't necessarily the death knell. Linda Hamilton is practically the most iconic character in the franchise. It's the convoluted story line and the mishmash directorship that has put this franchise on the path of extinction.
@@royroland3884 Right, I was hoping they would do a good future story about John Conner. But, they just want to keep making T2 copies with more bells and whistles.
Dark fate had no like able characters except Linda Hamilton and Arnold. The terminator looked like apple store salesmen…and the good terminator was just unconvincing and out of place.
Same. My favorite scene is where John Carter relived his family's deaths while fighting the Warhoon to save Dejah Thoris. The musical score for the movie was fantastic. I think most agree what went wrong with this movie was the failure to market it. I also think critics were ridiculous in their criticism of it. I think it was Roger Ebert that said "I can't take any science fiction movie seriously if it doesn't have robots and laser guns."
Speed racer is, in my opinion, an absolute classic to me. It’s such a amazing story, it’s characters I actually really like. And it’s corky humor is what I like lol The CGI won’t ever age well. But I love it.
Titan A.E. was pretty good, so was Sinband, Stealth, and Mortal Engines. John Carter I thought was really good, and I can't believe it flopped. The rest of these, yeah, no surprise.
when you bring back Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and even James Cameron and you still fail? that's a sign that maybe a series has gone on for too long
@VelktorCreationsMFQ NO! While I will admit that T3 wasn't bad, it rebooted and retconned the end of T2, which was not necessary. Not all movies needs to be a trilogy or have multiple sequels. The Terminator really should've ended at T2, since it had the perfect end.
Holy moly....I actually loved most of these. Titan ae and spirits within were one of my fav childhood movies. John carter was an awesome love story. Poseidon was great, mortal engines was epic.
Another thing about Poseidon... I worked at a Video Update in 2006-2007ish when it came to DVD. I have never before or since seen so many copies on the shelves of one movie. I'm not kidding when i say it was about 15 rows by itself. and entire half a wall was Poseidon. IDK if this contributes to its budget or whatever, or if it helped but... yeah.
One of A Christmas Carrol's biggest problems was its presentation. Older audiences found the style too creepy while the younger audiences was outright frightened by it. Heck, the scene with Death made even me go... Woah, that's Dark!
I think while I enjoyed King Arthur Legend of The Sword, it's sets up way too much for a sequel that the studio had planned. In my opinion, they should've take a backseat for a sequel for a while and made a good standalone movie first that would've made the movie a lot better recieved box office wise then go talk about the sequel
Yeah, I feel the same way. I really liked the movie but it did feel like there was a lot of speeding through important moments just to set up another movie. I would have liked it more if it just focused more on the current events that were happening.
It honestly surprises me that Titan AE bombed. I remember when it first came out to theaters going to see it an enthusiastically watching it and in my hometown of Santa Rosa there was this event going on at what was then the new Roxy theater and there were a bunch of re-releases of animated films which included Titan AE and there was a bunch of people going to see that too. It makes me wonder if Santa Rosa was just some area where the film actually had some popularity because I remember watching it again at a friend's house too. Or maybe it's just because me and him are nerds and we were into this kind of film back then. Since it is from the former Fox animation studio well some of their films have been put on Disney plus so I hope this one does as well. I also remember seeing Final fantasy the spirits within in theaters. I was shocked to find out later how much it's underperformed. I remember at the time the animation looked so real. I didn't see the adventures of Pluto Nash in theaters, but I do remember seeing it on DVD sometime later. I didn't have much of an impression of the film. It must have not been memorable because the honest truth is I remember the music from the DVD menu a lot more than the film itself. I don't remember anything from the film besides the fact that the music from the DVD menu did play to also open the film as well. So I see why Pluto Nash failed. Considering how much of a powerhouse Disney is now, it's pretty amazing that they had three years in a row of the number one box office bomb. Anyways I didn't see the lone ranger in theaters, but I saw it on DVD I think as a Redbox rental a little later. I honestly enjoyed the film and didn't realize at the time that it bombed. I remember Ben-Hur being released, but never saw it. I guess that must have been the case for most people. I remember seeing a trailer for Mortal Engines. I found the concept interesting, but also ridiculous at the same time. I guess more people thought the idea was just too ridiculous. I've heard that Terminator: Dark Fate was good, it just was too late after 3-5 disappointing so many people. I thought Genysis was at least better than Rise of the Machines and Salvation, but again, none of the later films can compare to Judgement Day. I hope to watch Dark Fate some day knowing that maybe finally they have decided to end the franchise on a high note in terms of quality. Too bad it bombed so bad. I like how you explained 2020. Honestly I just wouldn't have included that year just because so many theaters were closed due to the pandemic, but I do like how you explained that year and what could have been for the films. Honestly both movies mentioned are very flawed and I have zero intention of seeing Mulan(2020) as they made her a Mary Sue anyways instead of allowing her character to grow. I love the animated Mulan, it is my favorite Disney renaissance era film, but the live action one is just plain terrible. Wonder Woman 1984 I enjoyed when I saw it in theaters in late 2020, but even then I saw some serious flaws. I do appreciate that the main bad guy was defeated not by fighting, but by wanting to see his son. The lasso of truth helped him realize what he was doing was wrong and sometimes I appreciate that kind of villain arc more than just a fight to the death. The pandemic was still going strong in 2021 so I'm sure a lot of films still suffered. I know some did well still though such as Kong vs Godzilla which I'm happy performed well on such a year. I wonder how well it would have performed withouth a pandemic.
I'm always surprised to hear king arthur legend of the sword was failure. I've seen it in the cinema 4 or 5 times, bought the 3d bluray when it came out, and later bought the 4k bluray when that was released. While the setting up for sequels might have hurt the movie, i think the main reason for it's failure was just people and critics just thinking it was going to be just another tellling of the same old story, and weren't expecting the new take, and therefore being critical about it being the old story whit a whole lot of "stupid" stuff added to it. But those who went in open minded where treated to an amazing film, it's a more magical mythical telling of the story. And combined with guy ritchie's way of story telling (the "growing up" and "what happened with the vikings" scenes are great examples) The amazing soundtrack, great atmos mix and fun use of 3d (not over the top, but also not as lame as it's use in avatar) make for a great film.
Everything that u mentioned is true... also the fact that everyone was overdosing on game of thrones could have been one of the reason why it didn't get the appreciation it deserved
I'm not surprised at all. In fact, I disagree with most everything you cited. The soundtrack was meh, the cinematography was nauseating and bland, and the fact that they struggled so hard to tell the next four movies instead of telling one great one was what caused that movie to fail so hard. You wish to sell a universe or future installments? Great. Start by telling ONE great tale and then gently nod to future tales. Do not concentrate on establishing the next four before the first one is done. Many other movies that had potential also had the same issue of trying to plant seeds for future installments instead of telling the one great story and letting the audience clamor for more. As a huge fan of Arthurian lore, this movie hurt me the most because I had such high hopes for it. It took me a couple weeks and I still never made it through one viewing in a sitting. I kept falling asleep or shutting it off because it was boring me to tears. The 1982 version (Excalibur) is still the reigning champion. I would love to see a fleshed out, multi-movie parse on the lore but not at the expense of each individual entry trying so hard to set up the next one in line. Tell ONE great story. Dabble a drop or two hinting at the next one in line. Let the audience do the rest. Damn shame really.
The concept of Chaos waking (being a person who can hear the opposite sex’s thoughts) was done in a 90s movie called What women want. Mulan’s issue is that they changed her story to make her have supernatural powers, instead of accomplishing her goal by hard work & discipline. Terminator’s issue is that they made John Connor and Kyle Reese’s sacrifices completely pointless and irrelevant & turned the T-800 into a house husband for some bizarre reason.
There's also the fact that Disney shot much of Mulan in Xinjiang, where the PRC is committing cultural genocide on the Uighurs. I wanted to see this movie. I loved the original legend and wanted to see it without comic relief animals. But I refuse to spend a dollar that supports genocide.
@@JohnDoe-zr8pc yeah there's been strong female leads, but I think it has to come natural and not forced. Sarah Connor was natural, an all female Ghostbusters is forced. Making the "protector" and savior in terminator dark fate a woman is forced (in addition the subliminal pro immigration messages throughout that movie) there is some truth to the over used phrase "get woke go broke"
I like those movies Titan A.E (2000) Final Fantasy: The Spirits within (2001) Sinbad: Legend of the Seven sea (2003) Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009) Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) WW84 (2020) But I think it just because maybe they didn't do well with the budget and score on money from critics and audiences but these films are my favorite even the animated films too.
Absolutely agree. I honestly can't believe the movie Fight Club is not on this list because that was a Box office bomb that's made over 80% of the revenue off that movie as it became a cult classic and people started watching it on Dvds and downloading it. Poor box office draw doesn't always equal bad film.
It’s like saying that Pocahontas II doesn’t exist either but when it’s bombed and forgotten, it’s nothing but a bad day. Remember The Room, Avatar: The Last AirBender, 2019’s Cats and The Emoji Movie?
I have seen all the movies on this list. I enjoyed watching all of them. I do have favorites and I thought that they did quite well on the theaters. Loved Titan A.E , Final Fantasy, Sinbad, Wonder Woman 2, Possidon, Evan Almighty, John Carter, Speed Racer, and Mars Needs MOMS.
WHAT I would’ve never imagined that sindbad was considered a „failure“ :0 It’s animation is super fluid, story is action packed and not really obvious either. Loved this movie through my entire childhood 🤭
@@l4lemons206 naw i actually hated that one. The first 2 terminators are masterpieces. The other 4 are all trash, but i will say dark fate is the best of the other 3.
I loved mortal engines (the books) they were my favourite books as a kid. I didn’t think the film was that bad, super dissapointed that (just like the golden compass (Northern Lights)) we won’t see the rest of the story in film form.
I wanted to see Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas when I was nine years old but sadly my life was very busy at that time it probably would have winded up a box office bomb no matter what sadly but at least I would have supported it in some way. I saw it when I was eleven finally and really liked it but haven't seen it since and now I'm 28 hopefully I'll see it again someday. :)
The ones I saw: 2009: A Christmas Carol - One of my favourite Xmas movies 2013: The Lone Ranger 2019: Terminator: Dark Fate - Honestly one of the better ones, imo, though not as good as 1 and 2 2020: Mulan - It was fine 2020: Wonder Woman 1984 - Probably one of the most overrated movies I've ever scene. A true mess of a movie 2021: Chaos Walking - It was ok
Titan AE was amazing, FF Spirits Within was amazing, and John Carter was phenomenal... I can see why animated movies did bad, but John Carter should have been a success, it was beyond incredible and extremely well done! Idk who that dude was who played him either, but he did great and should have blown up after
I watched most of the animated movies here. Still love Titan AE, Sinbad is ok, Final Fantasy is nice to look at. OZ was weak as hell and still am not sure where the money went.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a motion picture that was tailored to disappoint practically everyone. While the computer generated imagery was well ahead of it’s time, choosing to leverage such a well-respected franchise as Final Fantasy without incorporating any of the elements that made the games great doomed The Spirits Within to fiscal ruin.
LOL. If you follow Jai Courtney's trajectory you'll see that his inclusion in a film or series was like poison. Everything he was involved in failed badly.
One of the reasons I've seen why Final Fantasy was such a failure was that the movie was a Final Fantasy in name only. It had none of the hallmarks of Final Fantasy - no magic, no summons, no mystical creatures. The best they had was that they had a Cid. The movie could have just used any other title other than Final Fantasy it was so paint-by-the-numbers sci-fi. Wanna know why SquareEnix exists? Because of THIS.
I loved titan a.e. and sinbad and the legend of the seven seas. And I don't care if they're the box office failure and I still loved them no matter what
The Lone Ranger was the only one on the list I was truly saddened to learn had bombed. Yeah it was a long movie, but I throughly enjoyed the action scenes
Final Fantasy is a bit of a guilty pleasure. All of the other flops on the list that I did see (Titan AE, Stealth, Lone Ranger, Mortal Engines, Dark Fate, Mulan, and Wonder Woman 1984) I saw for free so I'm not upset about wasted money on rental or theater.
King Arthur was definitely not bland. It was a creative retelling that hooked you with likable characters (even the side ones), interesting cinematography, and don’t get me started on the soundtrack! A cult classic. People just weren’t terribly interested in anything that wasn’t Marvel at the time.
I enjoyed WW84. I like Dark Fate, but killing John Connor was the stupidest mistake and felt it was there to replace him with Dani and Grace is basically a female Marcus Wright who was an interesting and tragic character. Rev-9 was cool due to his switching ability and his skeleton design but the rest is whatever.
Yeah killing John Connor was a mistake but I rather watch Dark Fate over Terminator 3 till Genisys mostly because it's just wonderful to see Linda Hamilton kick ass as Sarah Connor again in Dark Fate. Had Linda Hamilton not been in Dark Fate, I would've never watched it. And I don't think WW84 was that bad either, a gigantic step down for sure but far from being one of the worst comic book movie ever made. I'd rather watch WW84 over something like Catwoman, Elektra or even Fan4stic
@@Erasureeraser I never watched Catwoman, but I did watched Elektra and Fan4stic. Didn't care for Elektra and I despised Fan4stic so much is the 2nd worst movie ever with Howard the 1st worst movie.
@@alansepicvideos9083 Don’t bother with Catwoman unless you’re really, really, really curious. It gave Halle Berry a Razzie, & is not only considered one of the worst CBMs of all time, but one of the worst movies period. I can’t argue that it’s worst than Howard the Duck or Fan4stic (which is understandable), but it’s definitely bad.
@@TeresaKinsley A lot better and Linda Hamilton IS technically Sarah Connor. I love Emilia Clarke but she's nowhere near as good as Linda Hamilton in Genisys
@@Erasureeraser I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of Dark Fate. John Connor’s death scene at the beginning ruined it for me. But that movie at least tried a few new ideas, though it still comes out as another generic action flick. Genisys had such a shitty plot with dumbass characters, bland action, & so much CGI that just left me bored af. I can at least watch & enjoy a couple scenes of Dark Fate. Although, I’d still forget most of it.
I like how you have some bad movies(FF Spirits within) and some misunderstood movies (I'll always love you Speed Racer!) but then you get to 19/20 and its a bunch of girl power movies that "Critics enjoyed but fans just didn't show up for". Come on... That terminator was terrible, and killed off any reason to watch it in the first five minutes. Wonder Woman went from a fantastic first outing, to a nonsense movie that made its main villain a knock off version of Donald Trump. And then you get Mulan... which was made in china, next to a concentration camp. Where they took away the romance because it was apparently sexist. And where they decided to take out Mushu because he wasn't realistic, but then give her super powers. Which also completely destroyed the whole message of the movie, which is supposed to be about a woman proving she can do what a man can. Only now, she apparently gets super special kung fu powers that make her better than any man. My god, its just so much garbage.
I honestly dont understand why critics liked Dark Fate. It didn't do anything new and was literally a soft reboot of T1 and T2. Legion became the new Skynet, Dani became the new John, and Grace became the new Kyle Reese, even sacrificing herself just like Kyle. Then to add insult to injury, they killed off John Connor which rendered Terminator 2 as completely pointless. It's clear that the Terminator story doesn't have anything more left to say or do and should just be left alone already. You can only do the "machine goes back in time to kill hero while a protector also goes back in time to protect hero" storyline so many times before it becomes stale.
Not surprised about the Ben Hur failure as the 1959 version is far better with a strong performance by both the hero(Charles Heston) and the main villain(Stephen Boyd) of the story. And as for dark fate, wish they would rather have filmed the video game Terminator resistance storyline as a movie then the mediocre film they did since it feels like terminators version of the new star wars trilogy where they reuse old content in swapping out one savior for a new one with little to nothing worth added to the story.

2022: Strange World
2023: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey
These are the chapters.
John carter was a box office fail but that movie was really good, it’s sad more people didn’t see it cuz we’ll never get a second one😭
My whole family loved it.
Disney+ could do the sequels!
A lot of these movies are pretty good, they just didn't make enough money. If I find it entertaining i don't care what anyone says about it. I liked the Lone Ranger. It done its job. on a character that mostly baby boomers remember.
Just because it didn't make a shit load of money means nothing.
@@xtheunknown4662 besides the money reasons, you could see why it failed.
Speed racer is a fantastic movie, one of my favourite from Wachowski. Saw it 3 times and enjoyed it
"Titan A.E." and "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" are both great movies and I'm proud to say that I own them both. Cheers 🍻
I’ve watched both nd really like them myself
Because a movie bombs,it doesn't mean is bad
Waterworld is the incarnation of a box ofgice bomb but ended up as a classic
I saw “Titan A.E.” at a special screening before it was released. LOVED IT. Bought the comic prequels, the soundtrack, and got the movie on DVD!
In fact, I’m going to watch it NOW! 😎👍
@@zengram :
I never said otherwise!
E. As well but I was 10 years old when I first saw that.
when i watched John Carter for the first time i was blown away.. i think at the time they didnt advertise it properly at all.
Til today I still watch and love most “failed” movies in that list
John Carter and final fantasy are one those
I agree, I don't think of it as a fail, I loved it and still watch it to this day. Many people don't know, but a lot of writers got inspired by the books of John Carter and turned their writings into tons of money and movie deals. So it's great to see where some of these writers got their ideas from.
I'm with you bro
@@giltyascharged They barely advertised it. I didn't hear about it until after I heard how "bad" it was. When I watched it for the first time on DVD I was blown away as well. The scene where John Carter relived the deaths of his wife and daughter while turning back to fight the Warhoon to protect Dejah Thoris was powerful.
I liked the Lone Ranger, John Carter, Crhistmas Carol and King Arthur.
The train chase at the end of The Lone Ranger made up for the near 3 hour runtime. I absolutely loved it.
I actually enjoyed Sinbad, Evan Almighty, Speed Racer, and Jim Carrey’s Christmas Carol
The kids and I watch A Christmas Carol every year at Christmas. Love it.
I used to watch speed racer when I was little kid
add john carter you'll enjoy it..
I think it was the times . If it was today I think those movies would’ve done way better
You are clearly part of a very select group `)
This list makes me want to rewatch all of them. Good job WatchMojo.
Sinbad and Titan AE were two of my favorite childhood movies. I don’t understand why they both didn’t perform well at the box office

Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Sinbad, road to El Dorado, and Titan A.E. are all masterpieces that need a lot more love. I wish all of these movies would get more love and attention.

A Christmas Carol is an absolute MUST WATCH in December
Didn’t expect 2009’s “A Christmas Carol” to be on the list, but honestly, I LOVED IT!!
Same I still watch it I think it was my first 3D movie.
I watch it every Christmas Eve. Love it!
The Disney one was good, but the Muppet Christmas Carol was better
John Carter and Sinbad are great entertaining movies with a surprising amount of heart. If you haven't I recommend both as a double feature. So much fun.
It amazed me how badly they missed the point of Mulan in the remake. Its as if they didnt even bother to watch the original. Giving her special powers completely ruins the whole point. She isnt special, shes a normal girl, and THAT IS the point.
But Cruella also underperformed at the Box Office.
@@angusng816 and cruella was actually good.
Crying shame how criminally underrated Titan A.E. is! Absolutely awesome movie!
What this list tends to show is we don’t want endless remakes, endless sequels and if you make an animated movie, it better be really good as these seem to be surprisingly expensive to make

Yeah I liked the main actress, the Canadian with short hair.
the action and special effects was good, but that should be expected from a 2019 big budget action film. It was three main things that doomed the movie: 1. story, 2. I canada it came out in a 4K/3D combo .
No. That abomination took a giant shit on the novel.
What’s funny is that Sinbad was one of my favorite movies that year. Parents wouldn’t let me watch Pirates of the Caribbean nor Terminator 😂
Terminator: Dark Fate broke our childhood, they messed up original storyline about terminator, they messed up every character, and before that we got terminator genesys who broke everything too, its like wtf is going on..
Basically terminated the franchise
our childhood... who's "our"... you and your boyfriend?
I liked the movie. It was good to see a leader that was a warrior.
The John Connor character is always a whiny wimp that doesn't want to fight.
What do you mean our?
I still have my copy of Titan A.E. on DVD. Time to re-watch that. It's been many years.
The first 3 animated movies that were on this list are underrated and I genuinely enjoyed them
Legend of Sinbad really, that movie was a master piece
In this list John Carter and Mortal engines were amazingly entertaining high fantasy concepts. Its sad that these flopped but both of these are cult classics and deserve a second chance.
I enjoyed final fantasy: The spirits within...still I can easily admit it is flawed but the animation is incredible 👌
It was a sick film for the time I admit I went into the cinema thinking it was a final fantasy game film if you get me but even tho it wasn't I still enjoyed it
The animation was years ahead of its time. But it is such a slog to watch
My biggest problem with the movie was how overpowered the ghosts were. They just casually touch you and you die lol, it's like playing an arcade coin eater in the 70's. Like some people died by ACCIDENTALLY BUMPING INTO THEM.
The problem of Spirits Within was it was supposed to be a Final Fantasy movie, as the title suggests, but wasn’t at all.
Strange World is set to be added to this year's list of bombs!
John Carter was so underrated it was amazing
Never watched Chaos Walking but from Movie recap that i saw immediately i judged it as stupid idea for a movie.
The majority of these movies were awesome and enjoyable flicks whether they were released 20 years ago or today.
About Terminator, I must say, I was surprised that the one re-appearance I loved the most, was actually Linda Hamilton. Loved her performance as Sarah Connor, in all movies.
they have butchered the terminator franchise especially the last two. damn shame they wasted Linda Hamiltons return
after they brought all the women and kids to play tough swearing woriors, what do you expect :)))
Wait?? A terminator: dark fate was a bigger box-office flop than cats??? That’s kinda sad.
That's what can happen when we get unnecessary sequels and remakes nobody asked for.
@@royroland3884 Right, I was hoping they would do a good future story about John Conner. But, they just want to keep making T2 copies with more bells and whistles.

And it’s corky humor is what I like lol
The CGI won’t ever age well. But I love it.
Titan A.E. was pretty good, so was Sinband, Stealth, and Mortal Engines. John Carter I thought was really good, and I can't believe it flopped. The rest of these, yeah, no surprise.
when you bring back Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and even James Cameron and you still fail? that's a sign that maybe a series has gone on for too long
Should’ve stopped at T2.
IDK if this contributes to its budget or whatever, or if it helped but... yeah.
I've seen most of the movies on this list and really enjoyed Titan A.E., Stealth, Poseidon, Speed Racer and John Carter.
Speed Racer was different but good that way.
I think A Christmas Carol was actually amazing. Very good rendition of the story.
Y'all don't appreciate Speed Racer enough

It was also released at a horrible time.
And combined with guy ritchie's way of story telling (the "growing up" and "what happened with the vikings" scenes are great examples)
The amazing soundtrack, great atmos mix and fun use of 3d (not over the top, but also not as lame as it's use in avatar) make for a great film.
Final fantasy tank because lack of chocobos :S
i disagree, people just arent interested in seeing woke movies with strong female leads
@@victordelgado7408 No. people have no problem with strong female leads. The issues are that the character needs to be well written and make sense.

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven sea (2003)
Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009)

Same here, those are some of my absolute favorites!
Absolutely agree. I honestly can't believe the movie Fight Club is not on this list because that was a Box office bomb that's made over 80% of the revenue off that movie as it became a cult classic and people started watching it on Dvds and downloading it. Poor box office draw doesn't always equal bad film.
Terminator Dark Fate and Wonder Woman 1984 are absolutely terrible
It’s like saying that Pocahontas II doesn’t exist either but when it’s bombed and forgotten, it’s nothing but a bad day. Remember The Room, Avatar: The Last AirBender, 2019’s Cats and The Emoji Movie?
I have seen all the movies on this list. I enjoyed watching all of them. I do have favorites and I thought that they did quite well on the theaters. Loved Titan A.E , Final Fantasy, Sinbad, Wonder Woman 2, Possidon, Evan Almighty, John Carter, Speed Racer, and Mars Needs MOMS.
dude I love Evan Almighty the most :)
WHAT I would’ve never imagined that sindbad was considered a „failure“ :0
It’s animation is super fluid, story is action packed and not really obvious either.
Loved this movie through my entire childhood 🤭
we meant *box office* flops they video says the movie wasn’t bad it just didn’t perform well at the box office at all
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is by far the best movie on this list. it definitely was not bland.
What about terminator: dark date?
@@l4lemons206 naw i actually hated that one. The first 2 terminators are masterpieces. The other 4 are all trash, but i will say dark fate is the best of the other 3.
King arthur was great. especially in 3D
King Arthur is one of my all-time favs, the soundtrack was absolutely amazing. It's too bad it didn't get the love it deserved.
king Arthur was shit.
I actually really enjoyed The Lone Ranger. That train chase alone makes the near 3 hour runtime worth it.
I actually thought the Lone Ranger was pretty good. You can tell it was not completed at intended, though.
That movie was so bad. lol
There's something wrong with a supposedly "kid friendly" movie where the villain cuts open peoples' chests and eats their hearts.
I loved mortal engines (the books) they were my favourite books as a kid. I didn’t think the film was that bad, super dissapointed that (just like the golden compass (Northern Lights)) we won’t see the rest of the story in film form.
Alot of these movies are highly underrated
It does my heart good to see how many of these are Disney 🤗
I'm surprised strange world wasn't on the list
I wanted to see Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas when I was nine years old but sadly my life was very busy at that time it probably would have winded up a box office bomb no matter what sadly but at least I would have supported it in some way.
I saw it when I was eleven finally and really liked it but haven't seen it since and now I'm 28 hopefully I'll see it again someday. :)
I have it on DVD and I watch it close to Christmas. It's a wonderful movie that you can see for years to come.
The ones I saw:
2009: A Christmas Carol - One of my favourite Xmas movies
2013: The Lone Ranger
2019: Terminator: Dark Fate - Honestly one of the better ones, imo, though not as good as 1 and 2
2020: Mulan - It was fine
2020: Wonder Woman 1984 - Probably one of the most overrated movies I've ever scene. A true mess of a movie
2021: Chaos Walking - It was ok
Titan AE was amazing, FF Spirits Within was amazing, and John Carter was phenomenal... I can see why animated movies did bad, but John Carter should have been a success, it was beyond incredible and extremely well done! Idk who that dude was who played him either, but he did great and should have blown up after
He starred in Battleship, another movie that is mocked.
Really surprised the live action ATLA wasn't on here. Great list W.M.
The plot was immensely hard to follow. It may work for an JRPG but not for a feature-length movie.
Josh lucas was in two of the lowest grossing films two years in a row 😬😬😬
LOL. If you follow Jai Courtney's trajectory you'll see that his inclusion in a film or series was like poison. Everything he was involved in failed badly.
john carter is an amazing movie , i was so sad to find out it tanked in the box office .
No matter how bad this list of failures is...nothing can compare to the epic disaster that was "Ghostbusters 2016". 😄
I loved Mortal Engines. I hoped to see a sequel
It's based off a book series, maybe a good standalone movie but it didn't do the books justice.
Video: "Top Box Office Fails of Each Year"
UA-cam: Plays an ad for Uncharted in the middle of the video.
This proves that disney took the most risks and thus is the most valuable of the century so far.
Creating a movie is like a gamble even you get the best director script writer actor etc..it can flop or success..
I’ve always liked Evan Almighty, Sinbad, Poseidon, and King Author Legend of the Sword.
Killing John Connor was James Cameron's idea
This is why people shouldn't blame TIM MILLER for the failure of that movie
He deserves another chance
@@alansepicvideos9083 Don’t bother with Catwoman unless you’re really, really, really curious. It gave Halle Berry a Razzie, & is not only considered one of the worst CBMs of all time, but one of the worst movies period. I can’t argue that it’s worst than Howard the Duck or Fan4stic (which is understandable), but it’s definitely bad.
Terminator Dark Fate was not only a Box office fail, it was the killer of the entire franchise
Still enjoyed terminator dark fate
Better than Genisys.
@@TeresaKinsley A lot better and Linda Hamilton IS technically Sarah Connor. I love Emilia Clarke but she's nowhere near as good as Linda Hamilton in Genisys
Tim Miller deserves a second chance
@@Erasureeraser I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of Dark Fate. John Connor’s death scene at the beginning ruined it for me. But that movie at least tried a few new ideas, though it still comes out as another generic action flick.
Genisys had such a shitty plot with dumbass characters, bland action, & so much CGI that just left me bored af. I can at least watch & enjoy a couple scenes of Dark Fate. Although, I’d still forget most of it.
@@TeresaKinsley I think it's on par with TDF
Wow I can’t believe that A Christmas Carol was on the list, that one of my favorite movies.
Preach!
Evan Almighty honestly surprised me. It was a great movie that had children laughing. Idk how it failed in the box office so badly.
I will never admit Bruce Campbell was ever in a bad movie.
- “Sinbad”was pretty decent. My students sure loved it.
