Hey, Louis, No Text to Speech dropped a video about how to PROPERLY opt out and the deadline is 5/15/24. I think their legal dept is probably overwhelmed. I would say if you sub nitro (I do because I run a server) unsubscribe and tell them this is why. They care about money and only money.
There is an agree button on the screen that I click to opt in. The fact that there is not another button to opt out is all I need to know.
Now that i think of it.
Why is it allowed to ONLY have an agree button
But on the other hand to opt out you have to fill a fcking form.
@@baneshitsuren just say rapist. when they have a rapist mentality, they are rapists.
@@Splarkszter And I have to physically mail a letter to Epic Games Legal to opt-out of the Unreal Engine Arbitration Clause
YOu agree to the terms that include the opt-out submit the opt out and you are not subject to arbitration. That is the just of what is going on here. Discord won't reply; you have to keep the letter/email in case you have to take action.
It’s important to convey that irresponsible business behavior does permanent harm to people. Forbes, CNBC and other media don’t communicate that clearly.
What's up Internet legend😀
Chocolate Rain?! Wow, strange seeing you here in this type of video's comments.

Do you believe they dont know that? They dont care if it isnt their family. Executives need to serve prison sentences for their corp's actions
@@jayl5032 I think I have seen his comments on Louis's videos a couple times now, so I suppose this is his kind of thing
Modern corporate slogan: "Consent isnt profitable"
Very communistic of them. "If people had a choice, they would choose something else. So lets take that choice away."
Im scared at how accurate this statement is when compared to the law of the jungle. It translates to "If you dont ask someone if you can eat them, then you dont need to give and take. You just take." Aka, in the jungle if you cant defend yourself you get eaten. Thats whats happening now. Its not a deal. Its being consumed.
Yea I mean Louis is right. His term is right.
Yup
Government: Consent? LOL. Pay us or become prison labour!
Also government:
"Let's create a completely fictional legal entity called a "corporation", and let people use it as a business, but it has special rules, so the participants don't have to take responsibility or worry about personal liability, and we'll make it a psychopath by design trough "corporate law", that dictates that they HAVE TO make more and more profits every year for the shareholder owners, with no regard to the people actually physically involved in the business."
Game Theorist: "Actually, consent and sharing ideas is the most profitable option and successful strategy there is.
They aren't doing sexual stuff, they aren't rapists. They're "just" predators.
As if that's much better...
That commercial is CRAZY. Especially considering the fact that big corporations have absolutely had instances where employees that were not supposed to have access to certain user data did get access and used that info maliciously. In fact, I would trust any random self employed or small shop mechanic to know my location data over any corporation having access to the same information any day.
A corp leaves it open to more malicious people if anything, even if they don't leave the keys to the data out for their employees.
@@Ottobon I'd figure that a lot of data-leak "hacks" are due to leaving the keys to temp-agency hires. A lot of the data management roles are left to the lowest paid workers btw. (Customer service reps, data entry, etc.) It's surprising how little security there is on the inside, when they talk big about things like firewalls and IT monitoring.
@@pauljs75 So why aren't they leaving it to an actual programmer who would know how to secure the endpoints?
That costs money lol @@johnnywilson3071
I always thought "rapist" is a harsh word to use in your videos, but now I understand why, as a non-american I would never had found this out if you didn't explain it, so thanks for sharing!
Also, we whitelist your channel in sponsor block, I would never skip Mr. Clinton
Some UA-cam creators use the word grape to avoid getting censored.
I think that's Blackberry the kitten 😊
It's not harsh, it's an adequate expression of the observable reality.
@@rp7r54therapists do grape, apparently!
(Now, if only we could get people to take regular old IRL grapes seriously, that would be nice, too. But that’s my only gripe with the word “grape”.)
As for ads… I just have UA-cam Premium, because how else am I going to watch those dreadful paywalled Logan Paul movies from like five years ago?!?
(I also have Twitch Turbo. I do not have cable, though. I am the same age as Louis, and I have never had a cable subscription in my life.)
Why the F is my car keeping data about me anyway? These guys are absolute R.
They're also reading your texts if you connect your phone to them.
I've got a 2006 A3 Audi, the most advanced part is the sirius sat radio, I will maintain this car till it literally dies due to its still in that range of analog that it functions like a vehicle not a spy tool. Now if that data were to be used to improve the car, fine, I understand, that helps every single user of the vehicle but who it wouldn't help are third party companies because the data would be a protected secret that one company doesn't want in another's hands. This is going to get to a boiling point where we as Americans are going to fight back and the government are going to just shrug at it and move on.
@@zealstarwindgo up to 2015 you’ll be chillin with vw
@GHOSTSTARSCREAM Computerized does not mean collects and stores data or that the computer is capable of controlling the car's controls and being taken over by a hacker. The ECU in a 95 Chevy is about the dumbest computer imaginable. Your name, phone number, address, etc. are nowhere to be found in it. Nor can it in any way control the steering of the vehicle. Some models might have some limited control over throttle and braking depending on year, model and features. But even then you can't take control of it remotely because it has no way of connecting to any network.
I W🤑NDER WHY
As someone who lived in MA at the time, that commercial made me livid.
What's wild is these companies spent $25 million to stop this in a SINGLE. STATE.
If that market alone was worth $25M to secure, how bad are they ACTUALLY fucking over their customers?
it's about trend momentum and precedent, not one state. once a critical mass of states adopt a law, the strong possibility of a national law becomes reality.
I'm just here wondering what would happen if people instead of wasting their time and energy on getting upset about this was this passionate about creating better alternatives as open source products tat embraced decentralized manufacturing.
I read MA as morocco lol
I had a linus flashback after reading the title 😅

Came here to say this lol
As an independent mechanic/welder- Thank you for all that you do. You say what not many will, but everyone needs to hear.
I can hardly blame the average person for not wanting to say something like this. If you're not eloquent enough, or you read the room wrong, or whatever it may be, people can be very harsh in their judgement against that. For anyone who wants to step up and take on that kind of hardship for something good, then I salute them.

he said it in the video tho. he is calling it for what it is.
but in defense of the title:
saying the whole word in a title (or before N seconds into the video) angers the monetization overlords and the algorithm's spread of your content.
partially censoring it in the title serves to entice people to click due to the ambiguity piquing their curiosity.
it also serves as a CW for people who have had the actual thing happen to them IRL so they can avoid feeling emotionally ambushed by the universe when a mention of it comes seemingly out of the blue. they can grit their teeth before playing, or nope out.
Came for the rant, stayed till the end for the cat. What a sweet loving kitty. 🥰
It's very concerning that it only costed 3000 dollars for a politician to vote against you
You're far overvaluing their integrity, it takes a $100 meal to change their mind and have them vote your way, it only gets to 4-6 figures when your having to out bid your competition
3k was just the amount they had to give to provide pretextual cover for why they were meeting. Of course the rest of the bribe wasn't in such obvious direct cash.
@@petesmith13 You mean a $100 tax write-off
Only 3000?
I saw a video where the lowest was 4000.

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE INFINITELY MORE HONEST MAKING UA-cam VIDEOS THAN PEOPLE RULING US!!!!!!
How is bribery still legal? I thought the us was the land of the free. more like "the land of the corrupt"

While it's not literally rape, the same moral and mental justification these companies use to defend their practices is the same justification literal rapists use to justify their behavior. Legitimately my favorite person on UA-cam, not for entertainment but for the honesty and the absolutely pendulous cojones you have taking on all this. Thank you.
I don’t get why some folks are up and arms about your usage of the word, corpos/companies don’t need a defense force against mean words that describe them the way that they should be described. Keep doing you, my guy, and thank you for always keeping us informed.
Some people are f'n r-worded.
People are soft. There's a lot of words people don't like.
I agree it's an accurate description but at the same time I like how y'all just accepted the premise that everyone upset about it must be so because of defending corpos when that's like, maybe techbros and that's it, if you go outside you'll see there are people other than techbros too! Like, I dunno, SA victims and people empathetic of them, who understandably feel emotions when the word comes up! But nah I guess that's just being soft right
no one is mad the word is being used against a corporation, the more likely reason is that they think it minimizes actual cases of R, but with the context Louis gave it makes total sense to use that word
Those cat cuddles at the end were amazing. I found your channel just now and I honestly feel tempted to subscribe just based on how lovingly you treated your cat.
He makes great vid on his channel definitely suggest you subscribe you learn a lot.

The worst part about it is that most people are ok with it. The boundary didn't get pushed enough for them to revolt, the temperature of the pot only went up 1 degree.
Because it became so overwhelming and ubiquitous that most took the easy route and stopped worrying about it for the sake of peace of mind. And a new generation matured who never knew life without constant surveillance and they just don't give as much of a toss, mostly because it (in their mind) it deprives them of social validation. Privacy to them is being locked in a cell with no access to internet, no human contact, and none of the positives that come with it.
People are also ok with it, because if they were not ok with it, they would lose access to almost everything they own, almost all apps have a TOS that you have to agree with, every service, almost all products that connect to the internet in any way, so unless they don't want to see any TV series/films, play any games, etc. You have to say you agree, people have been so accomodated to expect an agree/disagree button, and to ignore it and just click agree, that most of them probably didn't even notice that the disagree button wasn't there anymore, none of them would click disagree if that makes their 3k TV not work, they've already paid for it, and they're not gonna refound it, so it's either agree, or you have a very ugly painting on the wall.
@GHOSTSTARSCREAM You underestimate humanity. Worldwide, people are resilient to negative changes, because psychologically, the tradeoff is worth the gains. It is an evolutionary trait we gained, and it was essential to our survival. It is VERY well studied.
Sadly, as you may notice, we really are not much better than animals. Our instincts are our own demise, and it would require unbearable amounts of educational effort to rewire the mind of 8 billion people.
Edit: this psychological phenomenon is why wars and violent revolutions happen; we as humans are wired to wait until it gets too bad for easy reforms.
Most people are NOT ok with it. They are FORCED to say yes, which is the whole point of the video. Submit or die is the motto. Most people actually genuinely do NOT understand the rabbit holes these tech-related matters go down. The public masses are victims. Do not blame the victims. Hold abusers accountable.
@GHOSTSTARSCREAMI will happily bet my life on it. This is not about tech, this is about power & control. Most people don't understand the technical jargon, hell even I struggle with it & I literally work as a developer SPECIFICALLY with embedded systems. EVEN ENGINEERS I HAVE WORKED WITH DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS!!!! So how do you expect the general public to? This is literally victim blaming.
It's funny how they say the quiet part out loud and almost no one mentions it. Ok, an independent mechanic MAYBE might snoop through my data. But why is the car collecting my data in the first place? With the car I have, the only thing they'll know is that my O2 sensors are bad.
Exactly. And an unscrupulous mechanic can remotely take control of my vehicle? Why would I want the manufacturer or dealership to be able to that?
That's why I keep saying I'm not getting a car newer than 2013-2014 (about that time they started to be always connected) until it somehow becomes impossible for me to own/maintain such an old vehicle. I'd rather sink unreasonable amounts of $ (compared to resale value) into my 2012 car, than get one that keeps sending data to the manufacturer, or one that might leave me stranded because a failed software update bricked it, or where all functions are crammed into the touchscreen instead of physical buttons. And except for matrix LED headlights, which are nice to have, there is no tech in a 2024 car that I don't have and wish I did - adaptive cruise, lane keeping, 360 cameras, wireless carplay, blind spot/reversing into traffic warning, auto dipping high beams for oncoming traffic, curve lights, heated/cooled seats... dunno what else I could want.
I remember when Lexus-nexus was the search engine my college tried to hoist on us during whichever class in the library. Good to know they were so successful in their primary company mission that they pivoted to a step barely above telemarketer, garbage scraping info from people to sell to insurance companies. Much success.

Please remind people that these contracts of adhesion - such as Roku's, which are form agreements presented as take it or leave it - can sometimes be declared unenforceable by the courts.
A court can invalidate contracts, especially contracts where the drafting party had significant power over the other party, due to the unconscionability of the terms. Of course it should never reach that stage but I doubt Roku's contract would be enforceable were someone to fight them in court over it.

I have not visited this site for a long time but learned a lot from LR when he showed actual board repairs and allowed us to follow his progress in the right to repair litigation with Dr Jones and others.
Recent videos show LR as a somewhat embittered man on the lookout for tricks used by corporate lawyers to allow or justify all manner of restrictions and intrusions.
Here in Europe, in Australasia, India, the Pacific Rim and 'Big Bad Russia' we do not have as many problems as seem to plague the USA. I often think back to my studies of American history and sometimes look at the grandiose paintings of the late 18th and 19th century. They depict serious looking 'men of the Enlightenment' discussing matters of fair and free living with a view to creating a civilization free from colonialist powers and the 1776 Declaration then original Constitution of the USA makes much of respect for free will, different beliefs, a thing called 'democracy' and the rule of law.
The trouble is that these documents were usually written by lawyers and the words were dictated by those wealthy enough to have campaigned for votes. That most of these (including George Washington) came from slave owning families, businesses related to slave or low paid labor and others drew upon revenue from estates and farms in England or island colonies (e.g. Hamilton). Franklin had a fine scientific mind and spent more time in France than the USA but learned little from French attempts to rule only by laws and codes able to be twisted in a dangerous way.
The Founding Fathers did not have worry too much about what are now called 'first nation' people because laws persecuted, corralled then eventually exterminated them over a century with absolute confidence that God was on the side of the (white) believers and not heathens.
Tribes and cultures were wiped out by legal papers they did not understand and had no hand in framing,
The facade of "that which is legally agreed by the people" is abused by the hour and because power in the USA is determined by who has the most money in land, real estate , companies and now corporates if extreme wealth LR seems to be surprised that laws and lawyers paid to bend and interpret them pervade all aspects of people's lives probably more than than anywhere else on the planet.
Absurd laws tend to bite the dust elsewhere and cases are brought in the 'catch all' Intellectual property sector where activities actually cross into areas such as fraud, theft, conspiracy to deceive for profit etc etc etc.
Obviously, swimming in the pirhana waters of Big Tech will have risks anywhere but the USA also has the permanent disease of litigation fever and thousands of semi-intelligent persons train to join the biggest organized shoals of the little fishes every year.
Emigration is perhaps a good idea.

Lets all note that the objection is to the term, not to the facts and supporting arguments. Louis is doing good work in getting attention on this curtailing of privacy. Keep it up
Plot twist the people who are stalking you are advertisers, law enforcement, and everybody else buying data off data brokers.
In honour of your integrity Luis, thankyou for everything. You deserve every good thing thats ever happend to you bro.
You wanna know how companies will stop selling user data?
By making it mandatory for them to pay royalties everytime your data is shared
100% agree with you man. Keep up the great work! One of the real ones here!
I support your descriptive label
Meme worthy title and thumbnail, I’m here for it
Would like to hear your take on the Helldivers controversy Louis. It's fair to say it's kicking off
Nah there's more important things than a Sony game making you register on Sony network. 😂😂😂
@@Saf_Ibn_Sayyad_BaconRemember to swallow once you're done sucking on that corporate boot.
Your use of the ‘R-word mentality’ is correct!
Times like this make me very happy that terms of service aren't legally binding in most countries.
Thank you for all you do for our consumer rights. I'm sure it is no walk in the park being the punching bag for us against the largest corporations in the world, so again thank you.
When I read this I thought you ment the other R word. Coincidentally, it also applies.
yep
The problem is the other R word originally referred to people with mental disability.
These companies are mentally competent and totally aware of their actions. This is is way even worse.
Republican
@@Saf_Ibn_Sayyad_Bacon Except these companies are taking ESG money.
What really blows my mind is that if you use either of the words in the title - instant demonetization (only if you are an independent journalist). CNN , NBC , FOX and other -Authoritative Sources™- rags can use them freely without any ill effects.
This is a very dangerous practice as it might discourage indie reporters from reporting news about "
I remember that horrific commercial! Holy hell!
Dark viper got into a lot of trouble for using the same analogy to describe reaction content. It was a huge distraction though because his basic overall premise was right on
I fully support your use of that word.
Then say it. The word is RAPE and stop letting youtube tell you what legitimate, in the common dictionary words youtube doesn't want you to say
No group has ownership over words, no need to apologize.
Consumers need to better educate themselves ! This is why I watch your videos . Thank you for what you do !
They're rapists yeah, I've gotten into arguments about this and my question is. What makes rape wrong? Is it the violence? No if it were it'd be treated as assault. Is it the sexual nature? No sex is legal. IT'S THE FUCKING CONSENT.
I like that terminology very much. Some people simply struggle with the concept of "no means NO!"
Long live Mr. Clinton's freedom of speech!
Another similarity to rappists (some) is that when confronted they'll say the victim asked for it or liked it or was OK with it
Manufacturers also claim that 3rd party repair of phones and other devices will lead to independent repairers stealing your explicit photos. But they say this while when their own contractors whom they employ for their 1st party repair have been caught doing exactly that.
If a company wants to change a policy that you MUST agree to to continue to use a product you already bought then they MUST offer a full refund plus an inconvenience fee if you hit disagree. There should also be an evaluation of the amount of detriment caused to the user if they do agree to the revised terms and a refund of a that amount should be sent to every user that agreed. There's no reason I should have to sign a revised EULA every month for my phone that I bought 3 years ago.
Best cat content account on yt
Very well said Louis. Great work.
I’m on your side.
If you ever need Website work.
I’m willing to help your causes at no charge.
If people don't want you to call companies certain words, then maybe those companies should stop walking like a duck, swimming like a duck and quacking like one. What you're calling those companies is pretty accurate for what they're doing to consumers. Also I never use Sponsor Block and just manually skip over them sometimes, especially if it's a long ad segment. I can never pass up on your cats and they were one of the reasons why I hit that sub button so fast a while back when I saw one of them on screen. XD

This is my knew favourite channel. Social media platforms had no need to become so gross and manipulative. Power corrupts….
