Who would have thought that companies could be this straightforward!

Damn bro, are you trying to start a riot with that heat? 😭😂
They are taking it AWAY seriously, to be more specific 😂

I wish they'd use my bank balance for targeted ads
"This guy has no money, don't bother advertising to them"
Not how it would work. They would advertise all sorts of things you like and intermingled in all those wants; they shove all the debt services. They will bleed you until you die.
Congratulations! You're authorised for an overdraft!
It was the automatic "Here is some overdraft you didn't ask for with no notification" that I hit the bank for. Small amount. Couple of hundred out of $500 they gave me. Bitched and moaned, reminded them it was them being out of line, and they eventually set my account back to zero and credited the money I had drawn down.
That's where you're wrong. Now you'll get advertisements for sperm banks and paid research trials.
exactly, I wish You tube would check before giving me 8 minutes of ads for 2 minute of video
How is this not a violation of fiduciary responsibilities? They're profiting from your assets against your personal interests and wishes.
I really feel this could be a ground for a class action suit. They're literally abusing their customers. No way this is not a ground for a lawsuit

Bank sent me an email saying happy birthday and suggesting I go use my credit card to treat myself 😊 no coupon, no discount - just blatantly tryna get me to go spend 💀💀
Lol
That's kinda hilarious lmao
Go to the ATM and empty your account, if they ever ask why, tell them, they told you to, because they wanted you to treat yourself.
Bruh at least paypal gifted me 10 bucks for my birthday
Lufthansa's loyalty program also does this. It's hilarious.
I straight up believe that targeted advertisements should be banned.
It won't, because the government uses it to spy on everyone. They don't need a warrant when they can just buy your data. They don't need a crime when they can just manufacture one. So if they want to for instance, politically target someone for their ideology, they can simply use their data to find ways to attack/frame them.

i also hate that discord is selling your conversations to make ads as well. i type something in discord, and 20 mins later i see a google ad for it.
@@littleshopofrandom685 If you believe that to be correct, you should take Discord to court, as it is stated in their Privacy Policy, that they need consent to do so.
So either you have that turned on, or Discord is illegally selling your info.
Check your privacy settings.
I agree, let's double it and ban ads all together!!
@@XDRosenheim I did not know that was a setting... I shall look. I only just noticed it happening recently. Thanks!
I left Chase a year ago when they blocked the view of MY BALANCE until I agreed to a one button agreement screen to their new terms. I went directly to the branch and closed my accounts.
While there I asked if anyone else had the same opinion of their strategy and was told ONLY ONE.
Bye Bye Chase! F them.
To other customers' credit - I doubt the bank teller would admit that their policy was having a negative impact on their bottom line.
Make a law where any money made from collecting someones personal data goes directly to said person. That will end all this madness.
This will destroy Google within seconds, and I'm all for it
No it will not. the data isn't the consumers, it's the banks, because the bank "created" the data. So you lose on that front as well.
Perhaps make it something like a royalty. You get a few micro percentage for Everytime your data is used somewhere in an algorithm

Wait wait wait wait wait wait. Banks, a service you pay for, have ads? The US has gone to shit.
There is a lot of services that you pay for, that are now adding (or been adding) ads. With option to give them more money to NOT show ads.

As much as I want to say that's hyperbolic, this time it's more true than false.
Purchase history is something called a "lagging indicator".
Ads based on purchase history is usually shit you already bought or shit you are already buying.
Should you buy more.of what you already bought or buying? Probably not.
After I buy something like a vacuum cleaner, Amazon ads blasts me with some FOMO ads of other vacuum cleaners with "SALE!!!" prices that are not really on sale encouraging me to buy a second one I do not need. Of course I'm not buying because im the type that researches before I buy. There are more impulsive buyers who are more affected by ads probably buying a lot of shit they already have which they absolutely shouldn't buy.
Then there are UA-cam ads which are scams. Imagine if you bought into a crypto scam and now they are serving you all the crypto scams. You are stupid enough to get scammed once, now here's 99 opportunities to get scammed twice.
@@iankmak Exactly... Subscription service ads piss me off the most because I physically can't buy it twice, even if I wanted
Remember the movie Minority Report in 2002? In one scene, as Tom Cruise's character is moving through a shopping mall, the retina scanners in each store recognized him and presented him with custom ads based on his purchase history. That was Spielberg taking a riff at how invasive surveillance technology and advertising were becomming -- 22 years ago. Turns out, instead of satire, he was actually predicting the future hehe!
It’s not a coincidence he “predicted” that either…

That may be true, but that little corner doesn't really have any power
I wrote a review of one software, that allowed me to decide to share my data with them or not, before installation, but it won't install until I say yes, as a rapist strategy. The review website refused to publish it. Any ideas how to word it so they publish it?
@@D.von.N Unconsented "activities"
@@D.von.N It sounds like a typical software installer where you have to agree to the terms before installing the software. You can talk in the review about what they want you to say "yes" to and why you are not going to put their software on your personal devices, but what else do you want to happen if you said "no"? If it's spyware, and they need you to consent to being spied on, do you want to install the spyware anyway without formally consenting to it?..
Ngl I think "predatory" is a more accurate descriptor, but "rapey" certainly turns more heads.

Cats don't give a shit about laws
Cats don't care about laws
Louis, I have to take you to task on the use of the word "start" in the video title - I worked for a banks statement printing dept back in the '80's. The banks then were using purchase data to create a widespread barcode down the side of the statements, that told the packaging machines which advertising pamphlettes to add in to the envelope. Even back then they were selling that data to advertisers, leading to people getting advertising in their mailbox.
Also, your cats are awesome :)
Did they actually sell the info to advertisers? I have less of an issue with the bank targeting me than selling my info. Although maybe it is a distinction without a real difference.
"I don't care if i destroy society, i want the highest engagement" is exactly what companies have been doing for at least a decade. They look at customers and see dollar bills, or other numbers. They don't care about the customers or their wellbeing or privacy, they just want to make money in any way possible.
The empowered sociopaths of the world are getting bolder. People who do not see themselves as superior to other humans don’t usually have these kind of ideas. We are literal cash cows to them, good for milking and not much else

This is awful! This should be highly illegal. A bank should not be able to sell customer data to tell companies what I am purchasing. That should be completely private, and that is insane.
It's not selling the data. It's doing the advertising directly to its own customers. There's a difference.
To keep it private, I'm sure there'll be a "premium tier" lol
ex-insider here, they're not actually selling your data or anything about you, you fall into a list of people who fit a certain criteria. Bank's machines do all the work not advertisers. A human being never sees who it goes to, nor could they. That said, it is sorta freaky and definitely a less ethical way to diversify revenue streams. This whole "your data is being sold" thing is kinda bs unless they actually sell your email address or contact info or your name - yes, they wouldn't even know your name, or that it went to your device, or you even exist. Anyway some terrible truth for you - they've already been doing this for at least 7-8 years, maybe more
In Germany, we tell ourselves a fairy tale called "Datenschutz" (data protection). Very few people believe in it and it doesn't exist unless you want information from the state about things that affect you personally: Then they can't give you this because: Data protection. Its a form of mindfuck. The problem is not that banks are allowed to do this, but that customers allow it. Most of them have the attitude: "I have nothing to hide." Everyone should have something to hide. Nomie dipshits ruin everything for everyone
Go to a credit union, avoid the major banks
Remember that part in Ready Player 1, where the exec is like,,, "we have figured that we can take up 72% of the viewers field of view with ads before creating seizures"..
Yup.
Not sure what's better, calling out banks on their B.S. or being a cat-dad to those fur-babies.
we need a "freedom from advertisement" act or bill to legally restrict his insanity, in fl this is a crime now, if they dont inform us and give us an opt out option we can sue them in public court, it by passes their arbitration clauses...
Step 1: Advertising _is not_ speech. It is not constitutionally protected.
@@mallninja9805 indeed, step 2, restrict those they can advert to, say no targeting children and the elderly as they are vulnerable to scams.

Because with the current "rapey" mindset of platforms, the people who pay are rubes that they dan eventually get to pay more.
You: Pay for the ad free package
Your bank, seeing the transaction: ah yes, this person wants more ads
I do everything I can to avoid targeted ads. Not sure how to stop this one.
I have an idea? Whether it will work or not, I don't know. What about using a debit card like PayPal to make purchases which pull from the assigned account? Will it show up on your Chase/Wells Fargo/whatever bank statement as PayPal*nameofperson $34.33 debit? Or will it shove the original merchant info through to your bank? Does PP debit card even work that way anymore?
@@20NewJourney23 That could actually work. It usually just says "PayPal" along with the merchant name on the charge. Although it could make chargebacks harder to pull off.
Use cash as much as you can.
@@20NewJourney23That could actually work.
@@20NewJourney23 UA-cam keeps deleting my response to this but that's a great idea. Just ordered a PP debit card.
They sent a letter out to all customers explaining the sharing policy. Unsurprisingly, most of it cannot be opted out of and the ones that can require you to call a special number
I'm glad I'm not the only one who engages in verbal negotiations with our cat!
Louis you don't have a cat as a pet, you have a panther as an owner.
Louis should add a teeshirt to his line of merch that says "Ask me about my Toxoplasmosis"
“You can’t get attention if you’re lazy” - immediately folds
I've started refraining from shopping online, buying mostly second-hand and paying cash for everything so they can't track my spending habits.
Discovered recently that not only does Missouri have no data protection laws, I also found that my employer WALMART has a privacy policy that states they "share" information with vendors. Neat!
Just wondering, have you heard of the recent "Stop Killing Games" legal actions? People are trying to bring Ubisoft to court over removing access to purchased content once a service ends, essentially rendering games permanently unplayable. It's basically trying to stop what Sony did when it removed all that Discovery content, but with videogames.
I block EVERY single ad.
About 8-10 years ago our bank ING already tried this.. untill both public and the governement said NO!
This is one of the reasons why I am sooooo glad I am living in the EU. So privacy is secured.
The answer (but hard) solution to many of these privacy, TOS, etc etc issues is to do what they say in the Open Source community..
"Don't get mad, fork it!"
You have to make the consumer friendly alternative. It sucks that this has to extend to banks now but probably overdue C'est la Vie.
I left Bank of America for a local credit union when BoA decided to start charging me a "account maintenance fee" like a decade ago. Annoying to switch over, yes, but steal from me once, shame on you. Keep letting you steal from me, shame on me.
Yep left for the same reason
I just started playing their stupid game. Need a direct deposit to waive the fee? Okay, I'll transfer a penny to a PayPal account, pay myself at another one and withdraw. Set a floor on that deposit's size? Okay, on TaskRabbit I could turn off per-gig payments and move lumps. TR took back that option, okay, now if I have $250 for a few days I can do the PayPal play with but Cash App, once again meeting the requirement. Some bank to bank transfers made with BillPay meet it too. It's customer unfriendly, sure, but they do some things better than any other bank I've tried. I play the stupid game.
We appreciate your service Louis rossmann. expose these unethical corporations
That's why I pay with cash. Neither my bank or the store need to know what I buy, when I go shopping or where I shop.
Nobody can stop this. We are all eaten by ads. I mean, I have adblockers, I never by anything based on ads, but no....there is no end to this.
Launching a new media sector but posting no job openings is especially messed up.
I'm honestly at a point where I don't want any internet access on anything. I'm sick and tired of the internet
Soooo, you cancelled your Internet service. Right?
@@RBzee112 why not treat the Internet like we did 20 years ago? It has uses, but it doesn't need to be built into so many products and be a huge part of our lives.
Internet has to replace TV fully, they can't have us just enjoying the positive aspects without the negative ones.
@@RBzee112 I'm about to
@@RBzee112 can you even live a normal life without internet service now? A lot of things only work with an app or a website now. Maybe if you are retired and don't need to do nothing all day you can go live in the woods
keep up the good work, my man. it's disgusting what companies do, and we have 0 option on any of it. observing companies as having "a rapist mentality" is so apt.
I'm shocked there are people out there that still don't have ad blockers. I've had one for 10+ years.
It's not bad enough that they can barely keep your finances or personal information secure, as it is. Now they have to sell your purchase history, which means that in order for this to work as intended, they have to give out your personal information, as well. This is yet another breach just waiting to happen.
Haven't seen an ad in years. Brave browser, no script, adblock, etc.
Same here it makes me long for the pitch man like billy mays.
What is noscript?
Don't forget controlD dns options.
Keeps most of the ads off your phone too.
Encrypted DNS is always a plus.

I've been using an ad blocker for a few years now, no way I'd ever go back to having ads disrupting my enjoyment of the internet.
And people wonder why some hate transitioning away from cash when these places are who you have to trust your money to.
I no longer feel crazy for having multiple bank accounts and credit cards with different banks and not letting any of them "sync". Good luck selling my purchase data Chase, when all you have is my rent checks and gas station purchases.
(I have opted into their "Limited" Privacy Sharing option and opted out of their Arbitration agreement)
I have pretty much adopted the hard line stance that anyone who directly advertises to me, I will put them on my permanent, irrevocable boycott list. Not only will I never ever buy their shit, I will also recommend to everyone I can to avoid that company's products.
I do the same thing! I also don't seem to notice most ads, and ads on UA-cam are easily avoided without special software. I hit mute and look away, or cover the screen with my hand. LOL!
I also do that. I have a "perm ban" list (permanent ban list). Companies that have egregious levels of customer service that need an overhaul we all know will never apply. Companies I swear I'll go out of my way to avoid business with unless the result is exceptional pain or discomfort for me. These include certain hotel chains, airlines, gas stations, utilities & "service providers". Nor will I interview and work for any company on the perm ban list (senior level I.T. like Rossman).
Good to know im not the only one. I actively boycott things being advertised to me. FUCK ADS
@@paradoxicalcat7173I do similarly. Mute audio. Turn away phone, etc.
The trouble with that is that XYX owns which owns TUV which owns QRS which owns MNO. There are only a handful of companies that own all of the others. You can never get completely away from the slime.
I *still* to this day have friends that will tell me "companies having your private data isn't that big a deal bro"...
People see adds on the internet? Why? It's your bits, you pay for them. Don't move the ones you don't want to.
Fuck Reddit, I'm still mad about the API stuff.
I did not buy their stock when they offered it to me (to buy; not for feee)
They want to CHASE you away
Well said that man!
I have been saying this for quite some time, If a company insists on selling my data, I want my damn cut of the profits at the very least.
My bank transaction history is just supermarkets, utility bills, and amazon purchases. None of which tells the bank what I bought. Just a generic subject name and an amount.
Can't wait for my bank to sell my information to bluechew and hims. Maybe throw a little betterhelp in there. Siiiick!
