I love how kind and validating Promise was with Anna. Someone has commented somewhere that she has a gift for meeting the callers on their level - understanding what they actually mean even when they're unable to express it clearly, and addressing those points in a gentle yet direct way. And I absolutely agree with that.

I really like the adjusted format. Especially because he has acknowledged that people are often (unintentionally) dishonest. They aren't actually prepared to defend their position and this is a safe way to stop but still hear the perspective they probably haven't considered.
I agreed. Though I think he routinely abuses the word "dishonest" and more often "liar", where both imply intent, especially the latter. He calls people liars when they are clearly simply mistaken or being unintentionally hyperbolic.

So by this point you’re just prolonging the addiction by “chomping on the gum”. Glad to hear you’re off the cigarettes but you’re still using the active drug. You’re actively keeping the addiction ember burning. This would be akin to me drinking only beer because I used to be an alcoholic who drank hard liquor almost exclusively. The gum is designed to be tapered off not to replace the cigarettes. You can get over this last hurdle and be feee from the drug completely! Stay focused and believe in yourself. Don’t keep perpetuating your addiction through the gum. You can do this!

The caller would just retort that Mr. Rogers was himself a Christian; so the caller would piggyback all of the good done by Mr. Rogers onto Jesus, even though it’s ridiculous.
Anna (NY) - Last thing. I have found that 98-99% of people get their religious beliefs directly from where they were born, and the family they were born into. With very rare exceptions. This is not support for the truth of religion, but cultural indoctrination. And I have yet to have anyone refute this, at all. Can you?

Asking me 'What evidence would convince you of God?' presumes that I will able to identify a particular phenomenon as being caused by a specific deity. I would need to know the deity existed before I could say it caused anything.
Hmm, but how would one show existence except through what it causes? If I said the moon existed because it has a measurable gravitational field that causes tides and visibly reflects sunlight, for instance, would you then reply that you won't even consider the moon as such a cause until it has been shown to exist? (I am not a theist, and I do not believe in anything supernatural; just wondering what standard you set for existence to be shown.)

To be fair, some people may not budge at all, during a call or a face to face discussion, but then think about the discussion later and begin to analyze and critique their stance(s). To Sura: Repeated dreams could just mean there is an issue or something on your mind that you are still trying to figure out or resolve. There may be an event that happened in your life that you have questions or concerns about.
Regarding first caller, Sura, it is a peeve of mine when speakers of a second language - _any_ language - do not enunciate and speak slowly. Whenever I speak to someone in their native language or English to someone whose native language is not English, I speak slowly and ensure proper delivery.

I remember a dream I had repeatedly. Nothing scary or anything like that. I was in a white room, floors and walls, and I was just bouncing a ball off the wall. Nothing in the room except me and the ball. I had that dream almost everyday for about a year or more like 30 years ago. If dreams are supposed to "mean" something, what does that mean?

Ted doesn't know the first thing about frequencies. A spoken word is made up of a range of different and changing frequencies. But a word could also be written words which have nothing to do with frequencies. Also, how do we need three frequencies to be alive? I can vibe with the heartbeat being a frequency. So i was listening to what you guys and kevin had been discussing if I recall correctly (It's been an hour since i heard it word for word) about what was wrong with teaching kids about hell and demons and it stood out to me because a few years ago (about 3) my niece who is now 9 said something that really made me question if allowing her to believe in a god no one can prove was good even on a moral level, any way she said she couldn't wait to own a gun so she could kill all of us (her family and friends) so we could all be with god. that's stuck with me and really made me question how bad it is to be teaching her of a god (in my families case 2nd baptists). so yeah it can be bad to teach kids about the evils of the bible but teaching of the good does no better

People representing religions other than Christianity can, and do, call in. The callers are primarily Christian because the show is in English and most theists in the English-speaking world are Christians.

I really like the adjusted format. Especially because he has acknowledged that people are often (unintentionally) dishonest. They aren't actually prepared to defend their position and this is a safe way to stop but still hear the perspective they probably haven't considered.

The gum is designed to be tapered off not to replace the cigarettes. You can get over this last hurdle and be feee from the drug completely! Stay focused and believe in yourself. Asking me 'What evidence would convince you of God?' presumes that I will able to identify a particular phenomenon as being caused by a specific deity. I would need to know the deity existed before I could say it caused anything.
Hmm, but how would one show existence except through what it causes?
If I said the moon existed because it has a measurable gravitational field that causes tides and visibly reflects sunlight, for instance, would you then reply that you won't even consider the moon as such a cause until it has been shown to exist?
(I am not a theist, and I do not believe in anything supernatural; just wondering what standard you set for existence to be shown.)

So i was listening to what you guys and kevin had been discussing if I recall correctly (It's been an hour since i heard it word for word) about what was wrong with teaching kids about hell and demons and it stood out to me because a few years ago (about 3) my niece who is now 9 said something that really made me question if allowing her to believe in a god no one can prove was good even on a moral level, any way she said she couldn't wait to own a gun so she could kill all of us (her family and friends) so we could all be with god. that's stuck with me and really made me question how bad it is to be teaching her of a god (in my families case 2nd baptists). so yeah it can be bad to teach kids about the evils of the bible but teaching of the good does no better

These folks have more than one reason why they believe in God why don’t they just give the best couple reasons, those should be compelling enough to upend someone’s life and make them become religious, because it did for them.
