My brain is fried from meth but I try to be a good dude. I’m 29. No I’m not stupid but I’m not well educated either. I never thought it was a debate on whether God existed or not. I’ve all my life always thought everyone believed in God. I was raised in a house with a mom after my dad passed away and she got rather absent. I’ve raised myself since around 14. I’ve been sexually abused by men that I trusted throughout my teenage years. I’ve always tried to get along with people. I SHOULDNT HAVE CALLED MATT. He didn’t know that I don’t know a thing about logic or reason. I’m trying though ! I reacted to him raising his voice, cussing, throwing his glasses on the desk, and trying to keep his peace all at the same time. I still have a lot to learn. I’ve never called with intentions to debate. Just genuinely want to ask questions. I get defensive because I hate being yelled at and that’s how I took his tone of voice. I have re listened and read the chat and I just wasn’t ready for his questions and I didn’t want to say I don’t know to Matt. I just want to learn and The Line is the only place I can come to without dealing with delusional indoctrinated friends. You all are correct. I can't imagine the sort of person you'd have to be to behave as Kevin is now behaving. Desperately hope the police/ FBI catch him and something is done with his disgusting life.
There are tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of kevins out there - access to mental health care is sorely lacking in this country. Nothing will come out of it, sadly, until he goes completely off the rails and does real damage, assuming he has not already.
@marcosolo6491 its a scary prospect that nothing will happen to him. I'm from the UK and mental health services are badly stretched here too but not as badly as it seems it is in the US.
@@herbieshine1312 It's not even about services being stretched here; we have just given up. Because of the lack of family bonds (individualistic, laissez-faire "culture" and all that), and due to lack of social programs and paranoia around them, those most in need of some kind of intervention and help are the least likely to receive any of that. Mental problems lead to even more isolation and indifference. After a mass shooting, mental health issues get 15 minutes of attention, but then we pivot to what brand of rental car they used, and get drowned in a sea of misinformation and conspiracies and political commentary and lose the plot.
Was this removed from the video? What did Kevin say? EDIT: at the end of the show Promise revealed that Kevin found her and her husbands personal pages and starting harassing and making death threats.
Callers like Kevin infuriate me to no end. You don't get to just assert your OWN moral compass all over, claim it's true, and anything that disagrees with it is immoral and/or "leads to depravity". I'm sure Hitler had his own moral compass that he asserted all over... that doesn't make him right. Just because you THINK something is deprave doesn't mean it is nor does it make it wrong.
To get help, he'd have to WANT help; he'd have to see his demented fixations as wrong or abnormal. I'd bet money that he feels nothing but righteous indignation.
Matt telling caller Liz to ''shut the f**k up!'' can't do this channel any favors, I mean imagine a brand new watcher of the channel listening to that call, as frustrating as it is, they're going to think it's really hostile, as many other callers have already pointed out, and if I notice that, as a fan of Matt, imagine what it's going to look like to those who are new to this. It's going to get to the stage where people won't bother calling in, in my opinion. Hopefully not tho, cos this is a good channel most of the time. 👍
Yeah i agreed. I'm a big fan of Matt but he's getting out of hand. I'm a huge fan of the line but I'm starting to skip all the episodes thats he's on because it's just him losing his temper the whole show. Its going to stop people from calling in and its not very interesting to watch.
Matt has gotten to the point where he automatically perceives every caller as bad faith. Jaxon was not bad faith at all, but was treated like he was one of the typical bad callers. A good call shouldn't require the caller to have more grace than the host.
One thing I take from this show is that several people here obviously make an experience they have not made at least since years: To think on their own about what they think, how to formulate it, and to question their own ideas by taking quasi an outpoint viewpoint. Almost as if religion conditions them to give up any own thinking and stick exclusively only to what your are told one ought to think, and to accept these thoughts as your own with they full persuasion you arrived at them after an exhaustive evaluation of the facts. And as one of the fundamental dogmas is not to question God, to NEVER doubt, or you go to Hell, you get into a thoroughly brainwashed state.
To say that the progenitor of life itself must be itself alive is the same contradiction as saying that you're your own grandparent, is it not? So life starting from life is not even an option. There's technically no logical problem with a series that has no first term, in other words, an infinite regress. But that means you can only say that life comes exclusively from life if there's an infinite amount of progenitors for all organisms in the universe. And we all know the theistic aversion to the very concept of an infinite regress.
Concerning Kevin... abuse isn't an excuse. I know the Live Comment wasn't made to give him an excuse, I'm just saying. My mother is/was abusive, yet I don't hate women.
I don't think she was a troll - just your average brainwashed theist hanging onto scraps of misheard -lyrics- pop-science in order to justify the beliefs that they themselves know to be lacking grounding. I will hazard a guess and say that she is desperately trying to revive a dead horse at this point in her life because she is seeking some belonging to what she perceives as her roots in an expat community. That doesn't make her unhinged by itself, but a troubled individual, a victim of circumstance. The NO killer was rare in being an extreme case totally deserving the unhinged qualifier, but I believe this kind of pull to return to one's religious "roots" when life throws you curve balls is more common than people think.
fast becoming my "go to" with Promise and Matt. They are a special team. The Beauty and the Beast [just kidding].......great shows! makes my Monday every week.

P1: Matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. P2: We have matter and energy right now. C: Matter and energy must always have existed.
While I personally think that's probably the case, I think P1 is an assumption. We know of no way matter/enegry can be created or destroyed. I don't know how it was discounted that there could have been an earlier period of the universe where the conditions allowed for the creation of energy/matter.
@@DasLenny That's shifting the burden. Your P1 should be "It *seems* that Matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed." We short-hand it to what you wrote because that's the assumption until shown otherwise. But your argument relies on it being a fact.
@@devb9912 Not really. If you have evidence, that proves the laws of thermodynamics wrong, that would be a huge thing. So far all our findings support it. So, if you have any pointers to the contrary, that would be fascinating.
@ again, not anyone’s burden to do. If you’re making the claim that it’s a fact, not just our best understanding, then it’s on you to support it. Which is why your P1 should be what I suggested. You understand our conclusions be wrong, yes?
To Kyle: Just be yourself and try to have intellectual respect for yourself. Don't let people wrangle you into their beliefs with emotional reasoning; if they have a good reason to belief then they will share it with you. You don't have to believe anything and you don't have to identify as anything. Thoughts affect belief and belief affects behavior - it matters what people believe. If God is outside of the materiality, then how did you detect it?
Great comment. I've known quite a few people like Kyle - heck, I've felt like that myself more than once while struggling through the process of deconstruction. The important thing is to keep asking questions, looking up answers, asking questions about those answers, and so on. It can feel heavy and discouraging at first. It's a lot of work and sometimes - as Kyle said - you might wish everyone could know everything from the start. But that feeling changes. Eventually you begin to enjoy the process of learning. You find that joy can exist even in uncertainty, because saying "I don't know" just means there are more cool things to figure out. Kyle is at the beginning of this process, and that's a place where confusion, frustration, and pain tend to abound. But it gets better. So. Much. Better. He just needs to keep learning!
Much respect for your open mind Kyle, until the very end when you turned into a tender little snowflake at Matt's justifiable frustration at your refusal to follow logic. Just remember to follow where the evidence leads, and never look for evidence that you can use to support your existing beliefs. "Sit down before fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.” - Thomas Henry Huxley
I think Kevin from Oregon is the same "Would you survive 10-minutes underwater/Can you comprehend infinity" guy from the other show. Same angry tone, same arrogance, same bad arguments. I'm pretty sure he continued to argue in the comments using a sock, and that did not end well at all.
1:07:30 My Grandma is Southern Baptist and she has argued to me that "God wouldn't let the Bible be mistranslated or wrong about things, because He is perfect." Which is just sooooo silly and ridiculous, of course.
I speak as a fan of the this show , In the past I was always able to listen to this show while enjoying all my other activities, recently it has become increasingly difficult to do that . I can no longer enjoy the show with my kids, wife, or anyone around . I can only listen to this show in private with my earbuds on . Iam honestly embarrassed to play the show out loud while Matt is on anymore . Matt please you have to be able to control your emotions and reactions , you have to stop calling people names , yelling and screaming and throwing a tantrum. You have to control your anger .Your behavior has made this show un enjoyable for me .i know what Iam saying is controversial because many fans including me love Matt . also don’t understand why fans are not speaking out against this issue we should not help encourage this behavior we should be pointing this out to correct it
I have great respect for Matt. I think he is starting to get like Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon though. He has heard the same crap too many times. He "is too old for this shit."
Time as we understand it might not exist outside the universe, or there might be two -- or even three -- orthogonal dimensions of time, none of which are linked to the dimension of time inside our universe. But we have no way of knowing. It's all just speculation at this point. We've got a better idea of what happens inside a black hole, but even that is too weird for most people to grasp readily. And then when you start rotating the black hole it gets even weirder!
I had a brief thought that Matt should switch from being an on-air person to being a call screener. But I instantly realized that if that were the case, no call would ever make it to air.
Funny thing (or phony) about Kevin is that he threatens Promise with, “you’re about to find out if there’s a god or not” instead of making the assertion that she would be meeting god soon… what a tool.
2:29:15 I don't know if I am the only one who thinks this, but Matt's constant dismissal of what appears to be a person engaging in good faith is a turnoff. I know he has heard all of these arguments, but at some point, this approach of being mean and condescending is going to destroy the show. No one is going to want to call in when you are just being mean, and you aren't going to help anyone get off their poorly held positions. Either you have enough and need to exit the show or try to be generous and assume the best. Yes, you will get some bad callers but at least you will look like a better person by not letting negative emotions consume you. Lastly, you know there is a time delay but you constantly yell at callers for jumping in. Fluid conversations in person are difficult, give people a little room here. Yes, still a fan of this show but not when the hosts are trying to score points by making the callers look stupid. Be the better person.
There's a really frustrating thing that happened with Liz that regularly happens with so many callers because they consistently refuse to listen to the questions being asked. Matt asked her "If science doesn't point to there not being multi dimensional beings does that mean there are multi dimensional beings?" And she replied "Possibly" which is not an answer to his question. The question she was answering, because she and others like her refuse to listen, was "If science doesn't point to there not being multi dimensional beings ARE there...?" "Are there" and "does that mean there are" are two completely different questions. "My dad drives a white van. Does that mean former president Obama drives a red pickup?" No! Maybe Obama drives a red pickup, maybe he doesn't, but my dad driving a white van doesn't mean anything about that. Just as science not pointing to multi dimensional beings existing does not mean that they don't. Wish people would listen and answer the question they're asked instead of pretending a different question was asked and answering that instead.
Love you all! Take care and we see each other in a bit

I’m sorry everyone and for those in the chat mentioning the noise in the background. That was my 2 pug puppies playing. I love you all. Now you all know my back story and I am not a troll. I just want to learn and The Line is the only place I can come to without dealing with delusional indoctrinated friends. You all are correct. I am surrounded by people that are very set in there ways and close minded. Please don’t give up on me people!
Follow your path man. Maybe focus on learning logic and reason before tackling the subjects that require their use.
@ thank you!
Kyle, you’re welcome to call over on Chewed Gum anytime :) Alyssa and myself host Tuesday nights at 6pmCST
@@eve_wasframed thank you and sorry for the terrible call.
I didn’t know I could binge watch logic and reason videos on UA-cam. Fuck the preaching videos and Bible study for now. 😂🤙🏻

53:05 as a fellow Yu-Gi-Oh player, I lol'ed at Exodia instead of Exodus. Thanks for making my day
Used to play as well, and had to do a double take to make sure I heard him right on that.
I caught that too but couldn't remember where I knew the name from 😅
Exodia obliterate!

Why, that was very Christian of him. From what I heard it lines up with his holy book.
Kevin always deflects and never answers questions . Please ban him.
And then Kevin proceeded to demonstrate behavior that can only be described as… depraved.
Sounds like the type to run for public office these days 😒
LOVE Dark Promise! Holy shit! Schooled Kevin's ass.

Wow, Darius blew my mind. How do people like this even exist?
Because the world has become too safe and natural selection no longer filters them out.
Hopefully we get a delicious, FBI related, update about Kevin!
Kevin, you need help. I don't have to defend Promise as Promise is more than capable to do so. But how he talked to Promise made me feel sick.
Even though Kyle was frustrating, I liked the conversation...for his and other people who are questioning their faith.
One thing I take from this show is that several people here obviously make an experience they have not made at least since years:
To think on their own about what they think,
how to formulate it,
and to question their own ideas by taking quasi an outpoint viewpoint.
Almost as if religion conditions them to give up any own thinking and stick exclusively only to what your are told one ought to think,
and to accept these thoughts as your own with they full persuasion you arrived at them after an exhaustive evaluation of the facts.
My mother is/was abusive, yet I don't hate women.
hope kevin is not married and has no kids....
Genuinely cant tell if Asli was a troll or just a really unhinged woman
Maybe both.
She sounded genuinely emotional but was utterly convinced Matt had cussed her out.. so yeah I dont know. I was leaving towards the latter option..
A troll would say something funny instead of just incomprehensible rambling
@@Shmaples matt curses most people but this time he was totally innocent of the charge...

@@botarakutabi1199 All our evidence leads to this conclusion. Do you have any evidence that this might not be the case?
To Kyle:
Just be yourself and try to have intellectual respect for yourself.
I’m glad that Kyle is asking questions. Keep it up!
"Sit down before fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.”

Loving my Alyssa Mug. Happy New Year from Pennsyltucky ❤
Is Pennsyltucky next door to Pennsylabama?
Hey kevin, since you live biblically, how many slaves do you own?
If it were legal, you know the answer.
It is more valuable to ask questions than it is to seek an already presupposed answer.
Seems the worst callers crawl out of the woodwork when a woman is hosting. I wonder why that could be.
Stalking and harrassing over disagreements in belief or because somebody hurt your feelings saying something you didn't like is such scummy behavior.
God is outside reality. Precisely. As in, not real.
Kevin might be as insufferable as Kent Hovind, which I'd have to admit is fairly impressive.
Eve and Matt are my second favorite pairing.
Thank you 💕 the show rocked as usual 👍
Negative time interval takes me back to the video game Outer Wilds
1:07:30 My Grandma is Southern Baptist and she has argued to me that "God wouldn't let the Bible be mistranslated or wrong about things, because He is perfect." Which is just sooooo silly and ridiculous, of course.
Someone check Kevin's crawlspace. Yikes.
lol!

A reddit theist.
Lots of calls invoking science. It's scary how many people have absolutely no idea what science is.
Holy crap Kevin, take a deep breath bud. You're way to emotional to be having this conversation.
John’s “complements” always seem very predatory and out of place
The way Matt put Kevin in his place was HOT, respectfully.
I have great respect for Matt. I think he is starting to get like Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon though. He has heard the same crap too many times. He "is too old for this shit."

Jacob, time doesn't exist outside of the universe, it is a part of the universe.
Listening to Jaxon talk and I thought my playback setting was on 2x
English is my first language yet sometimes there are times when my ears can't keep up, let alone my brain.
Liz needs to look up the Dunning-Kruger effect!
I had a brief thought that Matt should switch from being an on-air person to being a call screener. But I instantly realized that if that were the case, no call would ever make it to air.
I appreciate Matt’s intellect and honesty.
His screaming and name calling is less desirable.
That comment is so stupid I had to read it three times because I was sure I was misreading.
Why do you watch him if you don’t like his presentation style?
Funny thing (or phony) about Kevin is that he threatens Promise with, “you’re about to find out if there’s a god or not” instead of making the assertion that she would be meeting god soon… what a tool.
They are creating frogs is a new one to me. Did Darius come up with it himself?
He read it in a D&D list of spells.
You just KNOW that guy would put the "Panic" in "Satanic panic" if he ever laid eyes on the D&D spell list.
Darius is funded by big foil.
The aluminati.
The idea that tin foil can block our signals is a myth invented by the Illuminati to sell more groceries.
The sad part is, Darius thought he was logically answering the question
I listen to Brian Cox, too. He's fantastic in Succession and the Ring.
So many people seem to think ideas, opinions, and arguments absent evidence are solid proof or evidence for their deity.
Eve Matt😍😍
According to Liz, since science has not yet proved that Liz can't win a Nobel Prize, that means she very well might win a Nobel Prize.
I'm betting it'll be the faux Nobel for economics.
Liz has resorted to mumbo jumbo as a scientific explanation.
