That first generation 4.7 L V8 of sequoia is the longest lasting engine on this planet ever made. Same engine is in the Tundra from that generation. It will outlive you. You did a nice job fixing it up and making up to mark. Great, informative video.
2005 Toyota Sequoia Limited here .. 200k+ miles.. given to us by in-laws.. just had the suspension fixed, wouldn’t lift anymore.. works great now, serpentine belt next. My wife and I are in our 60s so the kid is grown and out.. just two dogs. Looking to get a tear drop trailer, some minor camping stuff and hit the road for some long weekends just the two of us.
Any maintenance tips to reach 500,000? Currently got 240,000 on my ‘05 Sequoia and I just service every 5k miles and do timing and water pump every 100k
I appreciate the information,I have a 2001 Sequoia 4x4 it has 169000 miles absolutely no rust purchased it in Phoenix Arizona it has been out west all its life it has a 3-inch lift it also has the transfer case all the shocks ball joints have been replaced I think I got a really good after viewing your video it sure makes me have more confidence and appreciate what I purchased thank you very much
I bought an 05' Sequoia with 185k, one owner, pearl white, in great shape minus a driver door hinge issue which I still need to fix. I was hesitant now at 210k to throw money at it putting a 2 inch lift but reading all the stories on the milestones these trucks a capable of reaching I took the risk. Great family truck.
Are you sure it's 126k? Lol I bought one for 3500 at 122k...only....it was a scam 😂 found out after purchasing it was actually at 315k. Buy the carfax people. I was dumb. Don't be like me 😂
I have a 2001 Toyota sequoia 4x4 170000 original miles, vehicle has been out west majority of its life 0 rust, loving it,paid 5600 for it have put $2800. In it,well worth the purchase, thanks for your content
My black 2005 Limited is at 309K. Same grill and headlights as your's with a 2" lift and 33" Method wheels. Interior is a little rough but coming along. Did the valve covers at 273K because they leaking like a sieve😂. I've driven it to Kentucky, Oklahoma, Missouri (3x), Maine, New Hampshire (3x) and all the states in between(coming from upstate NY). Love these trucks, and hope to keep mine for years.
My ‘04 Sequoia SR5…327,000 and going strong. And it sat for 15 months trying to figure out what I thought was electrical issue…nope…BROKEN GEAR SHIFTER!!!
I got one last year with 235k miles on it. Did plugs, coul packs timing belt, headlights, maf and added kn filter. She runs like new. I also added a Dobinsons 1.5 inch spring shock lift. Runs awesome.
I bought our 2003 when it was 2 years old with 24k miles on it. Now (2024) it has 152k and my wife gave me the green light to build it. I'm not sure what that week entail besides tires, wheels and a lift. Maybe a winch bumper and some lighting. I've run the larger "stock" 265/70-17 Geolander AT's for years but will switch to 285/70 soon, maybe a BFG KO2 or even a mud tire. Likely keep the Geolanders for occassioal Utah to West Coast runs. Most of my miles now are a monthly 250 mile round trip to corporate office in Wyoming and the light off-road driving when i'm there or when we go to Southern Utah. The Sequoia will never be a rock climber but it is still great in the dirt.
Just bought a 2007. Really looking forward to selling my 7.3 Ford and running something, smaller, quieter, more comfortable. I'm going to be borrowing a bunch of your ideas for the less expensive stuff (head unit, lights, trim, etc). Thanks for the ideas and keep up the good work!
Too funny ! I had a 7.3 Powerstroke before as well. It was reliable but NOWHERE near as well built as my 04 Sequoia. The guy I sold it to says it’s still running strong at 480,000 plus miles, but I love my “Landcrab”. Good luck with your build !
I’m the third person here going from a 7.3 ford to a sequoia or owning both. Goes to show that we must be pretty aware of what reliability is. Can’t go wrong with either.
I laughed when I saw your 3rd row couch. As I type this, I'm sitting in one of my 3rd row seats that I've modified a furniture dolly for - compete with a foot rest. In my bedroom. 😅 I am at 262,xxx miles for my 2004. Its cool to see that you've got one over 300!
Not s 1st gen but just bought a 2011 platinum seq to replace my rusted out 04 t4r. Looking forward to more space for beach camping/fishing. Nice truck there. Kind of tired of doing timing belts on my other vehicles so crossed into 2nd gen territory 😂
Don’t fear the miles. As long as the routine maintenance was done it’s no problem. I’m coming up on 300K in mine and would jump in it right now and drive cross country with ZERO fear !
Just got the quote for my paint and bodywork for my 04 today. It’s getting done the third week in August and I’m also going to get some new wheels for it. My paint was In MUCH worse shape than yours though, so I’m really needing it done and can’t pass up the $2800 quote at a reputable local shop ;) I’ve got another 40K before I’ll be doing the timing belt and water pump…
I already had extensive clear coat peeling and paint flaking off the nose so unfortunately a correction/polish/polysylazane coating wasn’t possible. I’ll be doing that in a couple more weeks though, can’t wait !!!
Nice video bro. I'm looking at a high mileage Sequoia right now so that's what led me here. I feel like you can't go wrong with these Toyotas regardless of the mileage as long as they are taken care of. One question if you don't mind -- Do you think I can fit a 13' kayak in it or on it? The thing is like 150 pounds so lifting it onto the hood would be brutal
I've been researching a lot of vehicles and narrowed it down to exactly what you have I need a budget tow vehicle and people carrier and reliable did you have any trouble with your secondary air compressor and cracked manifolds it's kind of the only major thing I've seen wrong with them
Seen a 2005 model with 266000 miles not sure if they changed the timing belt lately what are your thoughts it looks good enough for what I want to do with it
So I had Kickers but they were 4ohm and blew, since the JBL system needs 2ohm speakers for the amplification. Recently got these PowerBass speakers and they work/sound great! Mounting was a little tough but happy with the result. Powerbass speakers: amzn.to/3QrvuzV
I don’t make that much if that’s what you’re asking 😂 I just have a regular 9-5 in the marketing world. My cars and mods and shop cost less than a new base model Kia 🤣
Anything with a V8 will be truck based and have a frame that will rust/rot and the V8 needs a timing belt replacement every 90-100k miles. So hard to say low cost of ownership. The V6 4Runner would probably be simplest, or Gen 2 sequoia with the 5.7L V8. Land Cruiser is the same older 4.7L V8 as the Sequoia and GX. Timing belt instead of a chain...
Or the 4cyl RAV4 which is a unibody but can be had in 4c4 and the 2.5 doesn’t use a timing belt so maintaining it would be cheaper with WAY better fuel economy if you don’t need the room/towing capability of the V8…
Don’t forget the Highlander. It’s also unibody but you can get the bulletproof 3.5V6 if you want 22mpg on the highway but more oooomph than the RAV4. That V6 is the same one as my Lexus GS350 and they basically run forever with proper maintenance…
How well has this vehicle been maintained throughout its lifespan? How much life do you think it has left? I really want to get into a bigger vehicle. Like the gx or this. Sounds like this has been a good ride for you
Mine is older with similar mileage and I wouldn’t hesitate to jump into mine and drive cross country tomorrow ! I’m certain it’s got at least another 300K of life left in it if not more. They’re basically bulletproof.
Mine was well maintained on paper but still needed lots of work to get it where it is today…but even at 313k, I could see it going to 500k and beyond with regular maintenance
I have the bilsteins on the stock setting. Deciding to either go to the second or third like you did. Are u noticing any issues with having it on third notch ? Definitely don’t want the front end higher than the rear . Looks level with your set up . Great family suv . Cheers !
Nice! Yeah so I wanna say I did the second but honestly can’t remember, maybe it was the third (I’ve probably said it in the past and forgot already). I think the third setting makes the front higher than the rear. It’s weird because mine looks level, but the wheel gap from fender to tire is different in the front and rear…I’d like to lift it another inch with springs eventually but it rides fine for now. I think new springs will help a lot with ride feel

This is a great vehicle. It has been my dream to own one. You have added value and makes it so aggressive looking. Well done! Enjoy your ride.
2003 with 369k still sounds good can’t wait for my TRD PRO grill to come in
I bought an 04 earlier this year clean in and out with 126,000 miles on it for $3500. I love it and wish I had found one sooner
Good deal where at? Rust free?
good job!! They are expensive up here in the PNW.

Buy the carfax people. I was dumb. Don't be like me 😂
I love everything about my '05 except the gas gauge seems to be broken. Every time I fill it up the gauge seems to fall to E almost immediately 😂
Not an uncommon problem with these. The back window is a common issue also and the latch for the tailgate is junk, but easy to replace.

We have a 2004 all we have done is replace ball joints ( @ 400 k)and timing belt 500 thousand miles and drive it all the time
I have 2008 sequoia limited I done work on it also but is a great suv

With your new head unit is the antenna going up when you turn on the car?
