    Nope. Didn't help. I'm really fed up with this machine. $1400 machine and you get meaningless errors that refuse to be solved rendering the machine useless in less than 6 months

      Try again - it feels like doing the same thing over and over again, but each time do a better job. It's pretty finely engineered so it can be fussy.

      Yep. Ivecleaned the sensors repeatedly and I still get the message. I'm almost to the point of hating this machine and it's next to impossible to contact customer service.

    Any other suggestions? Just finished descaling it & drip tray error won’t go away. I’ve dried everything. Cleaned everything. Lined everything up. Removed & reinstalled. Vacuumed area & still error message. Nothing is working. 😩

    We tried all of these solutions and nothing was working. It seemed it just had to sit for awhile to cancel the error. However after a conversation with Jura support, they suggested something we had never heard of or tried. They recommended placing ice cubes on the sensors for 10 seconds to cool them off. Success! So far, so good.

    To solve this problem
    Buy new coffee machine
    Because we tried everything
    Even we sent the machine to maintenance company after that worked for couple days and again same problem 😤

    This did not work. ENA 8 will not recognize the tray removed, replaced, emptied. I have not only cleaned the tray contacts, but also the system contacts. Resetting the system does nothing to fix the problem either. What is the design preload on the wiping action of these contacts? Seems your engineers have missed the tolerance window for this design as you have an entire video dedicated to a "work around" that doesn't always work.

    I have tried this method and it works / you have to clean the two electrodes on the drip tray not on the top of them but down inside the small channel as that is where the electrodes are /clean with a small brush under water /problem fixed /hope this helps

    How long does the reset process take? I have taken the grounds tray out but nothing is happening and it still has the same message.

    Tried all the voodoo and nothing works, UNTIL... I scrubbed the sensors with a toothbrush and then the error went away.

    This didn’t help but I rinsed the sensors under tap at a fairly high pressure, didn’t dry them and put straight back into machine and the message finally stopped appearing

      I had the same thing happened when cleaning with a sponge and soap, no luck. I then tried scrubbing the contacts all over with dish soap and a toothbrush and it fixed it! Very sensitive.

      Drying did not help. Rinsing under pressure and cleaning with a rough surface helped - even when the sensors were still wet!

    No, after cleaning everything inside the machine, unplug and plug, did not fox anything.
    Surprisingly it was the tray that was dirty!! Just by cleaning the two contacts in the drip tray fixed the short circuit!!

    Empty drip tray still not going off after taking it out .....emptying and making sure not clogged on the sensors. How can I reset the coffee maker?

    E6 each time after descaling empty drip tray error comes up. Nothing works but run the cleaning cycle right after descaling works and error fixes itself.

    It did not work. I still get the Empty drip tray fault, even though it is empty and dried, the contacts on the tray and at the back of the machine have been cleaned and dried also.

    I just did my normal cleaning cycle and have an empty drip tray warning. Ive emptied it cleaned the contacts , cleaned in the machine housing where the contacts meet and still the same error.

    Excellent video, solved my empty tray error. Note: in the back of the tray where the stainless steel portions are, there is a small channel that is a reservoir from the drop tray and touched the sensors. CLEAN THAT with Q-tip.

    I have had my machine about 15 years and I keep thinking - welp this is it - with each time I get the "empty grounds" error. The times before I have had to take it in and get it refurbished to the tune of around $180. The comment about cleaning the small channel in front of the sensors with a brush was the difference maker. It is finally working again!

    I just received a brand new E6 and upon set up could not get rid of the "Empty Drip Tray Message." I cleaned off the contacts, as instructed and this resolved the issue! Thanks for putting this out there....it's much appreciated!

    Cleaned the tray sensors once, twice, three times, hitting every surface up, down, and inside and it finally reset. Yay.

      You should put out a video for doing so! It worked for me after trying the methods in his video, which did not.

    My problem is "tray missing" on an S9 After I've already emptied grounds and emptied the water in the tray. The only thing that seems to resolve it is unplugging the machine for several hours-overnight.

    I have had my E8 over a year and I get the empty drip tray message every time I clean my machine. I've called support and tried every tip I have been able to find online. Unfortunately this does not resolve the problem. Obviously my coffee maker is faulty, but Jura will not stand by this coffee maker and replace it. The only option is for me to send it in and wait for it to be returned and sent back. This is my second and final Jura--I expect the companies I support to stand behind their products.

      Nancy Iriye it sounds like there is a sensor issue with your machine. Its probably best to send it into the repair centre

      I have an E6 and also started getting this message recently. I cleaned the sensors, messed wih the little white switch on the inside to the right. I finally solved it by putting a little bit of scotch tape over the two metal sensors on the drip tray. Worked like a charm.

    Thanks for all the tips here folks. I've got a Z5 that is about 15 yeras old and done 12k drinks, but had the stubborn "empty grounds" message. The fix for mine was a little white microswitch at the front of the machine was just a bit sticky. It's visible with the drip tray and grounds containder out of the machine, look below the right hand of the dual spout and the hot water dispenser, where the grounds tray would normally sit..gave it a nudge with a small flat blade screwdriver and it flicked down back into the off position. Reinserted the tray and away we go - back in the game!

    Unebelievable. The tray sensors looked clean to me. I washed the clean sensors and voila ! The message “ empty drip tray “ is gone.

    I keep getting that problem but everything is empty and clean, I put my hand inside under the flap and can feel jammed coffee grounds, I pull what I can out, but everytime tray is full I get the same problem again.

    Resetting it this way works for the next few cups of coffee, but then it flashes "empty grounds" again and we have to go through it all again, usually having to turn it off with the grounds tray out, then turn it back on and hope the error doesn't come back on with the insertion of the grounds tray again. We want it to just stop doing this error...the electrodes are clean and I've lightly wiped where the electrodes go inside the body of the machine. I wish we could get a permanent fix.

    I don't know if there is a sensor that detects the "Coffee Grounds Bin" (CGB), I thought it was triggered by the number of coffee cycles, which can sometimes get out of sync with the machine if you empty the Drip Tray and the CGB at the same time even though it hasn't informed you that the CGB is full. Anyway the postulated solution offered here didn't solve my issue, I found the only way to clear the fault was to enter the Maintenance system and then exit it.

    It worked for me as well. But I had to cover the sensors with a small piece of paper towel which is still covering the 2 prongs.

    It didn't work for me. I removed and cleaned the grounds basket and drip tray. Then I vacuumed and wiped out the interior of the machine. I think the contracts inside we're covered in grounds too. But it seems to be working now.

    Worked great! Had to clean the sensors where they folded inside the tray and not just on top which I’ve done before. Has my E6 for 5 years now and it’s the first time it had played up when I couldn’t fix it easy! Well it was easy in the end - when you know you know!!

You saved my morning 😁 We have Jura D6 and I always do the same mistake: pull out the tray before the machine has heated up and and and the inside "tongue" from top doesnt let me instert the tray. Someone told me the mooost complicated way first time I had the issue...but your video is tip top :) Thanks and Thanks again!

    OK I solved my problem. Its not enough always to just clean and dry the terminals and the channel between them. I took the whole drip tray apart and under the terminals ( not normally visible) was a complete sludgfest around the sensors . Clean this underneath and dry it and hey presto ...its fine now. I suggest every time you do your clean ...you split the drip tray open and clean the contacts inside and out.

    Impressa F7, 7yrs old and hammered daily, was expecting 4 or 5 yrs max out of it, 2 weeks ago I got the beans jumping around and not grinding fault, this guy ^ showed a quick fix, today got this error msg about empty grounds, and thought Oh well time for a new one, did a quick Google just in case and found this vid, FIXED it in 2 min's.
    THANK YOU! The old girl might be nearing the end of her days but I'm seriously impressed with it, and when she finally dies (if that ever occurs) I'll look no further than Jura, and if I was in South Africa I'd be buying it from you guys, thanks again from Aus.
