  • I had started drinking significantly more milk inclusive coffee selections since moving to the new machine as of late, though while I don't mind the added maintenance that comes along with it, I have noted the added cost. What bothers me is the apparent waste in the process that is found in an already expensive requirement for a Jura branded cleaning product. Its easy to see looking back from my initial review of the unit and the changeover from liquid to the pellets that its not getting cheaper. Evaluating the cost and the total uses per item we can see what were dealing with for daily maintenance.
We find that cost aside, its not being use effectively nor efficiently, and were actually dumping money down the drain as demonstrated specifically in the video. A variety of tests and measurements are conducted to find out how efficiency can be drastically improved.
Finally, everything will be disassembled and inspected to ensure that the cleaning regiment is still working as intended.
    Tested with:
    Jura Milk System Cleaner Mini-Tabs w/Dispenser (180 g bottle)

Jura S8 Automatic Coffee Machine 64 oz

Further to my previous comment, here is what I will be doing. Fill the Jura plastic bin with the recommended amount of granules, add water (warm to hot) and stir to dissolve completely. Attach hose. But instead of putting the plastic container under the milk spout, leave it beside the machine and put a cup under the spout. Start the process and when it says to fill with fresh water simply empty the unused solution into a resealable container (I use a glass jar with a pouring lip). When I have filled the glass jar I will use that liquid to clean. Pour it back up to the line and again just dump the unused liquid back into the jar. That way there is no reason for Jura to make fuss if warranty work is needed because you will have used the exact amount of granules in the exact amount of water and when refilling their container to the line will have used the exact amount of solution the machine needed. Hope this helps and would welcome any comments or improvements. Cheers, Peter

Awesome video. I just purchased an S8 and was a little worried that between maintenance/cleaning costs and coffee bean costs, that Id rack up a decent monthly bill to maintain an awesome machine. However, now that I can cut down my milk cleaner by 75% and drastically reduce the cost of a filter by using the much cheaper zero water filter I don't have to worry about that at all! Thanks

  • @Starganderfish
    @Starganderfish 10 місяців тому +9

I have the E8 which is similar but uses a different cleaning container and the machine adds water to the container itself. It also doesn't do a clean water rinse cycle afterward which I find interesting. Ironically, even when the Jura is adding the water itself, it still uses too much and you're left with about 30% left over. The difficulty here is that because the machine's adding the water, if you use less cleaner, you'll just end up with a more diluted cleaning solution.
I used the Jura granules once and immediately realised it was a MASSIVE rip-off. I now just buy Caffeto liquid cleaner from a local Hospitality supplier for a fraction of the price - if it's good enough for professional cafe machines, its good enough for me. I also bought both the alkaline (blue) and the acidic (red) cleaner so that you really clean the milk fat and scale out of the machine. I use the blue every second day, and the red once a week. We always rinse out the milk hose after every milky coffee and the machine does a rinse and flush every time it switches off after making a milk coffee so I really don't see the need to clean the milk system fully every single day. I also dumped the cleaning tablets and got the Caffeto ones as well, for about half the price.
I haven't done the math but I'm sure I'm saving a heap of money over Jura's over-priced stuff.
Ultimately the best test would be to run it for a month using the recommended Jura cleaners and quantities, strip it and examine the interior of the milk system, then run for a month using the alternative cleaning process and compare. If it's just as clean then you're golden.

Fabulous detailed video! I only wish you would do one for the cleaning tablets
What is wrong if cleaning with Jura tablets only results in good coffee for 2-3 days (12 cups). Then extreme bitterness gradually creeps back in until the coffee has to be adulterated with sugar to make it drinkable!
Similarly running clean cycle without a tablet only results in good coffee for the same dozen or so cups? Do I need stronger tablet? CleanHike or Citric acid in the water occasionally?
I'd like to know why is the rinse water almost always so dirty? Is it really OK to use such dirty water to make coffee?

I basically clean the machine with 4oz of cleaning liquid (with less of half the tablets) in a tiny glass. A lot more economical. I don’t even bother with the cleaning container . Great video! I personally think that it is ridiculous to spend $$$$ on a coffee machine with a steep learning curve of all the things you must consider to operate and maintain it. For me, the last straw was the false advertisement of a three-layer latte that I just get right no matter what intervals and settings I’ve tried. Despite that, I always use whole milk. The liquids just blend together, leaving me with a regular Cappuccino.

Very helpful. The cost of the cleaning product is absurd. Jura's instructions are biased and unethical. They simply increase our costs and their profits. I don't think it is a coincidence that their pellets cost way more per use. Somebody at Jura got a huge bonus for making the change. Here's what I do to save even more: Twice a week I use one dropper's worth of solution in the reduced water. Then I disassemble the frother and soak the components in the cleaning solution for an hour or two; rinsing with water afterwards. On the other days, I simply clean with water. Also, I always rinse the tube for the milk, forcing fresh water through it, before each day's cleaning. I haven't had any problems with the machine, and all of the components look very clean, as in the video.
Also, I use Urnex Dezcal to decalcify my machine. Works great, and I have had no problems.

That's the thing that keeps me away from those combined coffee/milk machines, Jura or any other, the effort after using it. From a hygienic point of view, don't make a milk drink in the morning and then wait until the evening to clean the system because milk sticks.
I'm using a espresso/coffee machine without milk and with a seperate milk frother. I know it's not the same but it does the job and afterwards its a lot easier to keep it clean. A quick rinse under the tap of this container already cleans a lot, later you can have it thoroughly cleaned in the dishwasher.
Check out some videos of how milk is treated from A to Z and then you will see that this must be done extremely hygienically to prevent contamination.
Afterwards you will have questions about automatic coffee machines with milk.

    • @somaliskinnypirate
      @somaliskinnypirate Рік тому +1

Have you paid attention as to what happens on the Z10? Yes, it still wastes just as much cleaning supply. However, it self dispenses its own heated water into the reservoir so you cannot measure yourself the exact amount needed like this video suggests. To make matters worse, the catch reservoir in the center is made purposely smaller so that the dirty liquid overflows by an ounce or so into the clean liquid reservoir which contaminates the liquid (negating saving the liquid if desired for later use). Now, using this new system, you cannot measure the exact amount of pellets because the system forces a specific amount of liquid. You could do some additional manual liquid catching into another container and dump your exactly measured cleaning solution into the reservoir during the time it automatically waits for the pellets to dissolve, but what a PITA. Jura got ya by the balls. Coupled with that microchiped RFID filter, this is big coffee creating Coffee as a Service (CaaS)..endless revenue...Like Microsoft cloud services... Had I known this, I would have probably not got my Z10 and went with one of the other brands.

I mean the message behind the video and your reply are dead right. The maintenance side with regard to water filters to primarily keep limescale out the plumbing while at the same time improving the taste all costs money. The cleaners to remove the milk fats from the plumbing all cost money. There is a total cost of ownership here. Don’t get me wrong I’m not defending Jura, I’m sure from the get go, they realised there’s a nice revenue stream here, to which they’ll try their best to ‘ring fence’ you into using their consumables. However, I suppose they also have to consider that it’s important for them to make these necessary maintenance tasks as easy as possible and effective at doing the job. So that you remain a satisfied Jura customer, keep buying their machines and keep telling you friends about them. Interestingly I have a Giga 5 and a new Giga 10. On the Giga 5 which is long out of warranty I buy 3rd party filters and cleaning tabs in an effort to keep the maintenance costs in check (with the hope that they are doing the job effectively) and on the Giga 10 I currently use Jura specific RFI filter, 3 phase cleaning tabs and Jura Milk cleaning tabs with a big effort in buying from the right vendor, at the right time, pouncing and buying in bulk in order to get those costs down. Just like a car, just like a printer, the purchase price is unfortunately only the start and there is always at least 2 ways to go….but don’t skimp too much, else it will come back and bite you!!

Would just running water without any cleaner be sufficient? I mean is it going very far into the machine (milk) or just into the valve on the outside of the box ? If the external valve is removable, can it.be cleaned by soaking in dish soap or something like that ?

    Hey. Chears from Germany.
1)First of all, using the products Jura tells you, is a big NO. Cause every milk cleaner from the grosery does the same. If its designed to clean milk, its as good as Jura products.
    2) Second, even usage of the products daily is a big waste. Cause hot water program is more than enough if you doing it right after your used the machine on Jura E8, S8 J8. And Machines are simillar with it. Since the milk does not go anywhere exept the Milk Foamerl.
Same goes for the cleaning taps. I would never use the original products. You just need to watch, that has the same almount of cleaner. The cheaper brands cleaner are inventing for the most popular machines, thich Jura, Simens, Nivona, DeLongi are.
And if you want to save some money, you can refill your filter with some new water cleaning sands. Or at least buy the cheaper brands, who made the filter for Jura. Buying the Smart Filter for 15€ a piece is a big waste. You can get away with refilling it for 50cent or buy cheaper brand for only 3€.
All machines want to do good quality, so ppl actually buy their machines. The production cost of S8 is only 200€. They are selling it for 1400€. But to get money from ppl, they doing this small cheating, with cleaning supplies or new milk tube, or new milk foamer, or water filter.
If it would not last at least 15-000 drinks, No one would buy that high price.
And its not only my own oppinion. I asked several Jura mechanics, who doing service or repairing the machines. They dont wanna sell your more expensive supplies, they telling the truth.

Nice Video. But why do you buy a jura cleaner? Would you also by original Mercedes Diesel fuel for you Mercedes car , if it would be offered? If this cleaning solution contains citric acid and carbon acid, you could use some citric acid and mineral water with gas. So cleaning will cost about 1-3 cent. may be also a bit of washing soda could be good to clean milk... Sure, you have to find out how much to use, to not wear the frother too much through aggressive cleaning. But what could happen if it is too aggressive? You need to buy a new Milk frother, which is not so much more expensive, as the jura cleaning solution...

Over 20 years total with those 2 machines and neither one ever broke or got anyone sick. The C1000 just died and I am looking for its replacement. Cant decide between the S8 and E8. Great video so far with my Jura S8. We are at over 4500 drinks one thing I noticed the clear froth tip turns white and you just can't get it clean. The replacement parts for this milk froth are so outrageously overpriced. It's frustrating. Would be nice if Jura would recognize customers paying good money for a machine should be rewarded by a decent price for replacement parts rather than ripping us off. Just a note I'm sure you know about the milk cooler issue. When I bought mine, there is nowhere to be seen that you're only supposed to use the cooler for six hours. If you left the cooler on day after day, you would have an error code come up and the milk would freeze, which would not be covered under warranty. if this happens to anybody you stick to your guns and you always say I follow the instructions, in the user manual step-by-step. If you do this, they will ship you a brand new one because it is unrepairable once the board fries. I hope this helps.

You're being hustled by the branded cleaning pellets, which are just an ordinary inexpensive bog-standard cheap acid cleaner such as for cleaning scale out of coffee makers or ice machines. CLR liquid is another readily available acid cleaner. I don't believe this is even the right type of cleaning principle to start with for this apparatus. An alkaline cleaner such as automatic dishwasher detergent would do a better job of removing the fatty and stick-protein residue of the milk. That's how a food plant cleans their industrial equipment with inaccessible tubing and fittings carrying food products. But this type of overwrought gadget is a perpetual chore to keep clean.

I had a Siemens EQ6 series 700 which I replaced with a Jura S8. It drives me crazy when most guests want milk coffee. Siemens was making 2 coffees at the same time and flushing the milk system with water from the main tank. Also Siemens had more space on the tray; and the milk hose had its special place on the tray. Siemens is 3 times cheaper than Jura.
