One thing I really appreciate about the way you build- aside from finishing up with a beautiful model- is you're not fussy. You have an enthusiasm which is infectious and I like that. I always look forward to your videos, Chris. Best of health, sir, from the hills of Virginia. Cork
I built a lot of these kits starting in the early 60's when I was a kid. I built a few of these 53's and I don't remember the hood fitting so well. I had to massage it a bit. I just built a kit that was several years old and had all the goodies of the original kit. They must have worked on the molds as this kit has always been one of the staples for car modelers and must have popped thousands of kits from it over the years! I'm also a collector and builder and have a large collection of kits. I would buy one to build and one to save unopened still in the shrink wrap. I love your building reviews, more practical and more fun. I like how you build your models. I have always used model paint in the rattle cans with good results and also use an airbrush. I tried Krylon one time and it was kind of thick so I stick with model paint. I also use my fancy airbrush with the House of Kolors model paint that I got from Walmart. They tried selling it a few years ago and it bombed so they put it on clearance and at 50% off it still didn't sell. Well, at 75% off I broke out my debit card and bought a ton of it in one ounce bottles and rattle cans in most of the colors like a lot of pearls and airbrush reducer plus the accessories like mask's for flames etc. I have added to my Tamiya and Model Master colors (I model planes & ships also). I'm in my early 70's now and have more time to model. My problem is i have so many kits I don't know which one to start next! LOL
That's a good problem to have. I'll never build all my stash and that's ok. Nothing against airbrushes and what not, I have them and use them as well when custom work is needed. I've always leaned towards the cheaper, faster methods of kit making. I don't build show winners, I build every day model kits that look good on a shelf at home and I love doing it. A lot. Keep on keepin on man and thanks for coming along for the ride!
Good looking model. Faded paint techniques conveyed the look you were going for. Now all the steering wheel needs is a ball attached to it, and it will be perfect, lol! Thank you Round2 for giving us a peak at this model kit.
While your videos are an oasis in the desert of content, this one was to 'Enjoy'. Beauty! Thank you for sharing... P.S. O'll be back on this one - several times
I got 10 of the coca cola model car n truck kits, the flatbed and semi are hard to find, the local hobby store sells out fast! I get mine from hobby lobby when they have a 40% off sale. Great video!
LOVE the older trucks & cars. That's when I think cars & trucks were more awesome looking! As always dude you make it an entertaining experience. Thanks again & see you next time!
One of AMTs best ever kits in my opinion, fantastic build mate glad you went with a weathered truck. Kit originally came out in 1964 and really bar a few parts hasn't changed since then.
What a great video! Very inspirational! I’m planning to do a weathered red truck hauling a Christmas tree in back. Just wish I could find even an older Ford. 1929 or so.
Love them effies, my 1:1 is satin black, and no where stock components. The detail of the model is excellent, even the steer axle is set back into the wheel opening, just like the real deal.
thanks for the wonderful and informative video my Dad had one of these full stock flathead ford f100, yea a weather up green one this was back at the end of the '70s into the '80s, when he was done with it my brother cut it up..... that was sad. yep I just bought the amt model.... gotta order some snow tires for the rear, should be lots of fun
From one comment,to the next thanks for showing, your awesome weathering skills. I really enjoyed this video. Now I'm going drink a refreshing cool bottle of Coke.
great job Chris . I have the other 3 in 1, 53' ford kit that came out late last year , my son picked it up for me . lots of spare parts left for sure . loved building mine for ford truck month this past January .
Another outstanding build-up , *Chris* ! This ol' AMT '53 F-100 is one of my all-time favourite kits ---- its extra parts are worth the purchase alone ! Even though I have the 'Retro' release ( original box art release [ c.1962 ] from a few years ago ) , I may just have to get one of these Coke versions ; that vintage soda machine is sweet ! I think that the next one of these that I build , I'll customise it with the kit's grilles (one that looks like a '60 Starliner) and 'borrow' the engine from either the '60 Starliner ( which includes two complete engines ) or maybe the Pontiac OHC 6 from the MPC '69 Firebird . Keep 'em coming , *Chris* ! I enjoy your videos quite a bit .
The door panels are created by what is called a "slide core" in the mold. When the mold closes, blocks on the stationary side of the mold push the slide cores forward leaving the panel impression. The pattern is tooled on the face of the slide core. The cores open and close with the mold (open to eject the part). Beautiful model!
Awesome Chris that turned out amazing!! Hey if you want to do a super clean Coke vehicle!?!! And get a perfect Coke color! Rust-Oleum strawberry Fields!! That is a perfect Coca-Cola color it's so perfect the red on the details blend in!!
My dad had that truck back in the late 90s early 2000s. The diecast Coke machine was painted from the factory. But he built it stock and used the coke machine and decals on a diecast model kit.
I like the weathering and but I would have made some straps to tie the coke machine down with ...... If not it would fall off the truck that’s just me ....... I like watching how you weather things it help on my stuff thank you for sharing
Very cool build, as always nicely done. I "bashed" my '53 F100 with a Ferrari Enzo kit...lots of work but totally worth it. Yours is a great example of using only the standard kit & ending up with something very unique & realistic looking. Love your videos!
This is a reissue of the first glue together model kit my dad bought me when I was about 9 yrs old. Mine was the high stepper ford. We painted it black with red exterior...great father son project. Truck ended up getting wrecked so I buy a new reissue. But it lacks the mesh grille.
I have been seeing this one online and I like it a whole lot. I love that the guys at Round 2 seem to be putting out alot of models in the Coca Cola livery. I worked for a Coca Cola vending company here in Rome Georgia where I'm from. And I've drank Coke most of my life. I love your weathering effects on this build. I may try to get my hands on this one next. I am currently working on AMT's 55 Chevy Sedan. I know you did a review on that kit a short time ago. I just finished black washing the grill of it right before I sent you this in your comments section. It looks awesome ! The further I get into it the more excited I become. I love cars and pick up trucks from the 50's ! Tell me something Chris, one of my favorite TV shows was Sanford and Son. Why hasn't there ever been a model kit of the old truck from that tv show ? The truck was a 51 Ford F-100. As popular as that show was, I've never understood why there hasn't been a model of that truck. It shows the truck in the opening credits of the show in different camera angles so you can definitely get a good look at it. So I think there should definitely be a Sanford and Son truck. But what do you think Chris ? Would you build it and do a review on it if there was ?
My trophy issue version didnt have the mesh grill. I'm building mine full kustom lake pipes and wide whites. Mine had white walls but were skinny ones. The custom rear fenders do require a bit of extra work cause they lack locating pins vs the stock ones. Still a very cool kit. Has a spare hemi in it..
Currently I'm putting the finishing touches on the 50th Anniversary Moon Landing diorama, but there are funny cars, tow trucks and more on the way soon!
I just finish my 53. The rear bumper actually covers the license plate which made me think I should have installed the bumper brackets the opposite side down....so it would elevate the bumper....I notice your plate is covered also. So, the question is this: if the brackets had been installed inversely, would the tailgate still drop down?

Thanks! It's a nice kit, my first time building it.
I still like how you use regular spray paint, instead of paying $6 for a tablespoon full of model paint!
I use both, but lean towards the Rustoleum more often.
Rust-oleum is where it's at.
I would have loved to see one or both bumpers bent a bit. Just one end would add so much.
Great build!
Thanks, sounds like a cool idea for your build!

It may be a bit light for a gloss coat, for gloss and factory fresh I'd use Apple Red from Rustoleum, but either color will look good in the end.
My dad had that truck back in the late 90s early 2000s. The diecast Coke machine was painted from the factory. But he built it stock and used the coke machine and decals on a diecast model kit.
