25:40 In regards to charging, we've seen these peak at over 380 kW on 350 kW chargers, but it does appear that the bottleneck is the 500 A current limit of CCS1. When GM introduces a native J3400 socket, if it is rated for 600+ A, it's possible that we could see peak charging speeds in excess of 450 kW. That being said, a majority of the DC fast chargers for both of the two largest U.S. public charging providers (Electrify America and EVgo) are already 350 kW, so adding 100 miles of real-world driving range in 10 minutes of charging is a reasonable expectation if you start your charge with less than 60% battery. A 30-minute charge starting at 10% battery should get you back to more than 70% battery, which should be >275 miles of added driving range, depending on conditions. As a rule of thumb, you'd want to cut that range in half when towing heavy, so a 30-minute stop should add 130 to 140 miles of real-world towing range. Not great by ICE truck standards, but definitely the leader of the pack when it comes to EV trucks, most of which can't even do 130 miles on a full battery when towing heavy.
Mine peaked about that maybe 385 but it always for a short time. Drove mine home from MN to NE and 20 min was all I needed. But charged a little longer because I had 3-4 people looking at it and had questions. Lol

In Canada last winter we saw temps of -45c ...wonder how you would charge in that cold and also the range in that temp . Notice how they never do cold tests 😉
My ID.4 looses a chunk of range in the cold … but not that bad! You know why it’s not bad in the winter?Public charging SUCKS! So even on a nice day If I’m traveling long distance … I still have range anxiety. However I absolutely LOVE my car. Love love love it. I love not stressing about … running out of the house and not paying for gass. I feel more free.
Preconditioning. That is what many people fail to do in severe cold. That Sierra EV has a battery that weighs a ton, or so. That's a large mass that will stay warm for a long time, if heated up before setting out on a trip from home in cold weather. Preconditioning is something that is done automatically with the vehicles of anoTher popular manufacTurer of EVs. Far in advance of reaching a charger, they use the navigation system to choose charger sites and automatically begin using the heat-pump system to warm up all of that battery mass. Just say "route to Supercharger" and the vehicle starts the preconditioning process when a Supercharger location is chosen. This makes for faster charging in subzero temps and also helps to maintain range. EV Batteries like to be warm and cozy to take a fast charge and also give their best performance. Just pulling up to a charger in subzero temps with a cold battery, yes, that's a problem.
@dvader3263 it was -45 for 2+ weeks .... Also .. you still don't see anyone doing reviews when it's even close to that temperature and makes me wonder why that is ..
@@darcyklein9952 -45 … that is crazy crazy cold! Do normal cars even work? Only asking cuz I’ve seen some fun videos in Russia where they start trucks in extreme cold. That have to do a procedure.
@@darcyklein9952 EV truck that’s 100k is kinda crazy. For me trucks are tools. And towing anything and having to charge is a BIG issue right now. If you tow, do not get an EV truck. However EV for general transportation is so good. I got my VW id.4 for 24k and it has some quirks but I’m in love. At that 20k price range… EVs are unbeatable for 90% of the population.
If you're paying 100k for a truck I'm guessing 3500 for tires isn't much. You also forget the internet exists and people can look up tire prices. Oe tires are 543 a piece on tire rack. So 2200$.
@@speederz1 discount tire includes that. so 2300 +8.25% tax here in tx and disposal fees it comes out to 2600. so your bullshit estimate is 35% higher than actual cost. and again, 100k truck making payments of 1575 a month at 0% interest for 60 months that they offer then its barely 2 months of payments even with your fake price.
Their web site is showing that for 2025, if you get the "upgraded" battery, you will have 204kWh of capacity. Not sure if that is "usable" or maximum for the battery. They say that unloaded and no trailer under optimal conditions you will have roughly 440 miles of range - roughly 6-7 hours of driving on the highway. If you a large 50a 240v circuit to charge at home (40a usable at 80% load or just under 10kWh), it would take 21-22 hours to fully charge the truck from zero. If you only drove 200 miles on the highway - roughly 3 hours, it would still take 11-12 hours to refuel that energy expenditure . For every hour of highway driving, you will need to charge for 3-4 hours on that 50a 240v circuit. Let that soak in. If you are pulling a trailer, the driving hours will be about half that for the same hours of charging. Surely to heaven anyone that drives their truck 300-500mi a week like me, understands the amount of downtime needed for home charging.
The worst thing about the truck is the app. You can't see at what rate it's charging and the state of charge updates very rarely. At the moment it's showing me the state of charge from 3 days ago
Great video, Andre and TFL crew. Great presentation. This truck is an absolute awesome vehicle. GMC once again nailed it with the design and a home run on performance. Great job General Motors. The competition has nothing to beat GM with, all are absolutely junk.
Comprehensive comparison between this and Cybertruck, please. Front and back seat comfort, child car seat anchor availability, highway range, blind spots, mirrors, cargo bed camera, suspension comfort, turning radius, highway noise, bluetooth microphone clarity, etc
All trucks need the extendable tow mirrors. Do you need to take the rear window out when extending the rear box in to the cab. I would not like the wind rair and snow coming into the cab.
@talltexan4710 Well EVs don’t require any oil or air filter changes so the maintenance is $0 for the powertrain. The battery warranty is 96 months and 100K miles. The gas version only offers a 5 year 60 K miles.
I look forward to the towing range test. The tests you have run on the lightning and Cyber have been really awful as far as range. I’d bet similar but we’ll see.
They are very nice but the price is a deal killer for the towing range limitation. I say this as an owner of a Hummer EV SUV but I also own a ram diesel megacab that we tow our camper and classic cars with. If this is your only vehicle and you need to tow you're very limited to in-town towing.
@@craig8638 Not many at 60k, but at a 100k you're talking super duty diesel money and that's my point. People at this price range can get the same truck with a gas motor for 40k less. Makes no sense.
@ I do think it’s a little ridiculous too just produce a luxury vehicle. I don’t know why companies always start with the most expensive vehicle when it comes to EV’s
Unfortunately invest >$100,000 in this truck (or the diesel or gas variants) and drive it in the northeast or midwest US and after 10 years it's rusted to scrap metal. Yes, constant treatment with fluid film will delay the rustout but the rust clock still ticks.
I own the Sierra EV and live in NE. My bolt I bought in dec 2016. Never had a problem or any rust. Mostly aluminum. So is the truck. So it may not. Yes it has metal underneath but I have looked and is as good as my burb.
Can you off board power while the vehicle is in motion? For example, if you had something in bed that you might want to keep cool or warm. I know you can open part of the midgate that essentially would make the bed part of passenger compartment, but I am asking if you can have an electric cooling or heating unit in the bed to keep a pet warm or cool?
Great video! I do love the new Sierra EV but unfortunately it will be well beyond most fiscally responsible people's means... Looking forward to see how the Elevation version fits into the group.
I recently purchased this truck. My only towing gripe, maybe TFL can ask about it, is the missing tow sideview mirror cam that activates in the center console with the turning signal on. It's helpful when towing, and I loved it on my refreshed 2022 Sierra Denali. It would even highlight in red the area next to your trailer. I can't believe it's missing on this new, high tech truck. Very disappointed. Everything else is amazing though.
I have several trailers but not an enclosed one. I have a 20 ft utility trailer and hauled some 4 wheelers and was fine. Also the have the “see thru” camera(s) (2 hook ups on bumper) that help with the vision.
@@posatronic9262 I have the see through as well, but need to reinstall after my brief time in the Lightning. I still liked the side view camera better though. I’m used to not seeing directly behind me, but the side view would help with turns to watch curbs and light posts too. Very handy.
@@vijayvis I have my one 20’ enclosed cargo trailer with a slight v nose. The shape of the trailer impacts the range more than the weight. I haven’t packed it full, but with about 6k gross weight without babying the pedal and speeds up to 70 mph, I got .86 kWh/mi. About 45% reduction in efficiency. This was with moderate weather, not really cold weather. So, 205kW (battery capacity) * .86 kWh/mi ≈ 176mi of range.
@@VAF84 thanks for the info. 176 miles is not a lot. My main purpose is to pull my travel trailer for camping. We don't do super long distances, maybe 6 hour drive would be the maximum, around 300 miles one way. For that I would need to stop at least twice, I would think, to charge, and if they are not fast chargers, then the wait would be too long. This would be replacing my Armada, if I get it, but it's a big if at the moment.
I have Super Cruise in my rental Cadillac right now. I do like it, but it can be improved. If it tells you to take control for whatever reason, sometimes it doesn't want to acknowledge that you _have_ taken control. You have to wiggle the steering wheel or something, which is obviously suboptimal. It has also done the aggressively slowing down to avoid hitting a phantom object more times than any other vehicle I've driven. Great tech, details can definitely be improved. They also really need to work on 2025 CT5 Android Auto scaling/fitting to their display's shape (or, if it already does, I need to find the right setting).
Andrey, why does it look like your seating position is so close to the steering wheel? Are the pedals too far forward? Does GM still offer adjustable pedals?
Some charging sites have a pull thru or a spot that cables can reach if you park awkwardly or sideways, but generally you will need to unhook, charge, and hookup again. It adds a huge amount of time to a trip but is still do-able.
Andre... It would have been great to include information on the new motors and inverter for the 2025 model year. The GM staff could have explained what's different, why it gets longer range etc.
If you need that outlet strip adapter plugged into the charging port to use onboard power, does that mean you can’t use it for things in the back or the trailer (pre-cool the fridge) while driving? Obviously you can’t use it while charging, which is a big miss by making people switch between truck powered and extension cord powered when charging. I have a fridge (high surge power at ambient temp, low power use once cooled to running temp) I plug in and take camping in the back of my Powerboost, and this design just doesn’t work.
With the mid gate, who is making a topper or bed camper for this truck? Seems like a great option for the camping people, use truck AC/heater, roll into a camp ground and power it up on the 50 amp plug overnight.
My son and I camped in the bed this weekend with an air mattress, mid gate down, tonneau cover in place, heater running all night. 30deg outside, cozy 72 inside, used about 8% of the battery in those conditions. Flated says they’re making a topper early next year, hopefully that happens.
I like it but not at the current price. I also prefer the AT4 over the Denali-hopefully that one will be priced better. I used to have an Avalanche and like the mid-gate but it had hard removable tonneau panels standard, not some flimsy fabric roll-up cover as an option. They need to stop making useful items options and just include them.
Do the EV trucks provide the 'see through trailer' camera options like the ICE trucks do? Without the option of tow mirrors, that would help with visibility of wider trailers.
@TFLEV Please do towing range test vs Chevy/GMC gas V8 with standard 24gal tank, apples to apples. You did Ford eco boost last year but it had the optional 36gal tank I think.
@rm10002 The Silverado 1500 5.3l range was around 435 miles before I sold it this year. My new SEV RST FED range is about 460 miles. Apples to apples the SEV cost about 1/4 to charge (mostly at home) over the cost at the pump.
@@kelviskelvis7140 He wants to know about towing though. EV's take a bigger hit towing, especially with a cargo trailer/travel trailer, because they lose virtually all regen braking due to the aero drag of the trailer.
@@kelviskelvis7140 not really. Most ICE engines seem to lose 50% of their empty range while towing while most ev tests I’ve seen towing Cargo or Travel trailers lose 60-70%. Hence why you see 300+ mile rivians, lightnings and Cybertrucks only making it 100 miles or less with large trailers in tow. lol.
25:50 with the charging port on the front passenger side you can easily charge at a Tesla Supercharger (NACS / SAE 3400) with only taking up one normal stall. Similar to Silverado EV with it in the rear drivers side (like normal Tesla's). The GMC EV has the advantage when towing tho that if room you can leave your trailer on. A little awkward and you should probably stay with vehicle in case you need to move but a thought out design.
So, kinda did not answer the tagline title. Kinda can drive it. Kinda can sit in it. Kinda towed with it. The deal has been on going though. Can it tow? Yes. How far is not even as big of a deal as much as how long it takes when you stop at charger networks. And frankly, that is going to be annoying for most people to have to navigate from charger to charger and park frequently for excessive amounts of time to get anywhere. Basically, this truck is not going to solve the on going issues that EV systems have already proven. Some say it is the charging networks that are responsible for how fast you charge back up, but Tommy has discussed and debunked this fact, as in, the vehicle on board system has to be able to take it as fast as any charger can give it. Range can be comparable to fuel vehicles, but the charging times is the continued factor. And stations need to be as convenient as fuel pumps. For towing, you need a drive through island to tow into. And then you have to factor in, IF EV's became the dominate vehicle on the roads, those few and far between charging networks that may or may not even work, are not going to handle the masses in volume. And what about truckers? Who is going to supply them with proper drive through charging stations? Truckers damn well will not want to un-hitch every time they need to charge up. Time is money.
I purchased one of these and it is awful. The range is about 220 miles on the highway with 1 mile of regeneration every 100 miles used $100,000 pile of junk sitting in my driveway and no one will except it as a trade-in. Call GM and they wrote me a letter saying buyback claimed denied. This does not get anywhere near 300 miles of range let alone 400 miles of range…false advertisement.
I would personally prefer 18”, more versatile, but I think 24” is slightly more efficient for highway use (where the EV’s need all the help they can get to improve high speed driving range)
I thought the same thing as they showed it driving off with the trailer. Those wheels look ridiculously large to be towing with. Obviously the capacities are fine and it all works out on paper, but it looks very silly. I hear a lot of reviewers mention the ride is a bit chattery due to the thin tires and super high PSI. I feel like a taller sidewall (that flexes) would mitigate a lot of those complaints
@@ZPdrumer I have 20” coming for mine this week to swap out the 24s, will let you know what I think. Ride quality was better than expected on the 24s…I’m mainly looking for more peace of mind off road and more tire choices.
They all come pre-tinted, but even my normal sized sunroof gets hot and needs better tint than what the factory provides. I want to add more tint to mine, but I have read a lot of mixed responses to whether there is a safe type of tint that will not make the sunroof more likely to crack on hot sunny days.

Are analog gauges done and over with? Personally, I prefer analog because I'm sure in 10-20 years from now it will still work. Not so sure about this truck lasting that long though lol
I’ve had gauges fail (needles bounce, stop responding) but never had a screen fail. Not saying a screen can’t fail but they do pretty well, at least somewhat because they don’t have any moving parts.
What are all these things that you need buttons for all the time? I have a car with physical buttons and one without. The buttons almost never get used.
@ when I want to change any setting in the HVAC while at the same time I’m talking on the phone. With buttons I can change the temp or fan speed or volume without taking my eyes off the road.
I do frequent but short duration towing of 7700lb. About 30 to 80 towing km per day. I need to look at the tax implications because this might be perfect for a new work truck. It's awfully expensive though, gotta make sure Trudeau will give the appropriate reach around to make it feasible lol
The economics of these trucks don't add up. $100k to drive a short distance? Gas trucks are outrageous as well. Just buy a small hybrid and call it good. My budget will never allow for these expensive vehicles. Is GM trying to go bankrupt?
You know, I have an old truck 94 C 1500. I've been wanting to get a newer truck for a couple years. Now that truck would work real good for me, there's only one problem, I am Retired, and I can't afford it. I can't afford a newer gas truck than what I got right now, so No way is an old man like me. Gong to end up with a truck like that i guess I can dream.
People saying only wealthy can afford this while driving their Platinum SD diesel, Ram 2500 Limiteds and 2500 Denali diesels and same in the 1500 versions all $70-90k plus these days.
🤔 Best truck implies value - cost, weight and down sides to working an EV say otherwise Maybe as a 2nd it 3rs vehicle but not a primary - just my not so humble opinion Thanks Andrey!
I could see a lot of these things with a bass boat behind it. I also assume that the 4 wheel steering would be great in a tight boat launch. Not great for towing long distances but for certain applications this thing is awesome. Let me just sell a kidney for a down payment...
Incredible truck! I'm typically a Ford guy but this will be my next truck end of 27 depending on what Ford releases in their upcoming T3 EV truck but that's been delayed. This truck has more payload than my full-load F150 Lariat 502A and has a ton more features. That's quite impressive. We're finally starting to get EV trucks that we want to buy. I'm also interested in the upcoming RAM Charger as I like the series hybrid design while still being an EV truck. The competition is starting to heat up
Most people are going to tow travel trailers with these things. Can you guys test with travel trailers, to get an idea of range with the huge trailer on the back?
Maybe this lady is just referring to EV only about the hands-free eyes on the road even while towing because my 21 f150 hybrid has this exact same technology. I can also go hands-free while towing. I also have 600 miles + range and only take about 3 minutes to fill up.
@@AdamFrugoli Shop around. Zero chance of over msrp in the current market unless it’s a specialty vehicle. I got mine which they used as a show vehicle for $11k under msrp. Some advertising $5k off already.
The EV truck only millionaires can afford! Come on GM make EV's the average American can afford or we'll start buying Chinese EV trucks made in Mexico!
You’re right that more pull-through chargers are needed (and they are becoming more common), but I did a 700 mile haul one way with my 2024 Sierra EV and only dropped the trailer once. It wasn’t a big deal, just unhooked in the Buccees parking lot. I didn’t have a spotter but the cameras make it super easy to put the ball exactly under the coupler, and the air suspension raises/lowers the truck, so it only takes a minute.
I’ve never had to refuel while towing, but my campsites are within about 2.5 hours of me so a full tank of gas is plenty. I hate the idea of finding a station big enough for a truck and trailer to maneuver and being mostly dependent on truck stops. Put a battery in a truck that gets 500 miles WHILE TOWING, and pull through superchargers are no longer an issue for 95% of those towing.

@dvader3263 it was -45 for 2+ weeks ....
Also .. you still don't see anyone doing reviews when it's even close to that temperature and makes me wonder why that is ..
At that 20k price range… EVs are unbeatable for 90% of the population.
crab walk while towing is actually a very nice touch i like that!
24 in tires to replace them is about $3500.00 for (4)
They also look ridiculous.
If you're paying 100k for a truck I'm guessing 3500 for tires isn't much. You also forget the internet exists and people can look up tire prices. Oe tires are 543 a piece on tire rack. So 2200$.
@@Kahless00 what about installation and disposal and spin balance..so tire rack dont say that...plus tax plus shipping u sound like sharp driver

Guys in the back seat looks like security.
As owners of a $100,000 truck THEY ARE!!😎😎
That Moonlight Matte would look good on a 53 pickup with show chrome and a body color and chrome eye brow visor!!
I missed the part where you did the towing test was a sleeping?
The worst thing about the truck is the app. You can't see at what rate it's charging and the state of charge updates very rarely. At the moment it's showing me the state of charge from 3 days ago
I will stick with diesel much as I can 😊. And you should too Andra great work as always 👍
Great video, Andre and TFL crew. Great presentation.
This truck is an absolute awesome vehicle. GMC once again nailed it with the design and a home run on performance. Great job General Motors. The competition has nothing to beat GM with, all are absolutely junk.
Great review ❤❤
Why does it seem like the team doesn't like Andre? Lol. Great video, Andre!
Comprehensive comparison between this and Cybertruck, please. Front and back seat comfort, child car seat anchor availability, highway range, blind spots, mirrors, cargo bed camera, suspension comfort, turning radius, highway noise, bluetooth microphone clarity, etc
Has GM mentioned anything more about the HD version of this and the Silverado EV?
2028
@ holy cow that far out still? Kinda figured it would be largely based on these current trucks and would be coming out next year or something.
All trucks need the extendable tow mirrors. Do you need to take the rear window out when extending the rear box in to the cab. I would not like the wind rair and snow coming into the cab.
People have covered that in other reviews - window can stay in.
How much is maintenance gonna cost over long term. Warranty cover batteries etc?
How many people tow long distance on a regular basis if at all?
@@craig8638 Not many at 60k, but at a 100k you're talking super duty diesel money and that's my point. People at this price range can get the same truck with a gas motor for 40k less. Makes no sense.
@ I do think it’s a little ridiculous too just produce a luxury vehicle. I don’t know why companies always start with the most expensive vehicle when it comes to EV’s
That’s crazy. A hummer EV and a Big daddy diesel?
Your driveway must be CRAZY haha.
Have you tried towing with your Hummer EV? It's so, what is the drop in the range for a trailer that is 5-6000 lbs? Is it half or worse?
CAD $125,000 + Tax , lol
Very handy.
How heavy are your trailers, and how much does the range drop when towing?
Towing with regen braking is a game changer. So smooth.
Maybe being kind to the guy behind him?
Took the front healights from the F150 Lightning?
How do you recharge with a trailer?
That trailer would be a menace at night, I know a lot of drivers who'd crash into it without seeing it.
Trailers require lights?
@RobbieFitzgerald I know, even with the lights, you kniw that a lot of drivers are almost blind, right?
I like it but not at the current price. I also prefer the AT4 over the Denali-hopefully that one will be priced better. I used to have an Avalanche and like the mid-gate but it had hard removable tonneau panels standard, not some flimsy fabric roll-up cover as an option. They need to stop making useful items options and just include them.
Do the EV trucks provide the 'see through trailer' camera options like the ICE trucks do? Without the option of tow mirrors, that would help with visibility of wider trailers.
Yes. I have one. They actually have 2 hook ups for the “see thru”. One for the back of the trailer and one for inside if you need.
@ Awesome thanks!
Aside from all the nice features of the Denali EV, can I get crabwalk on a 35K Equinox EV?
@@Jay-me7gw Lose, virtually, bigger, drag and EV's are all words that were seen somewhere and you put together to make up BS. lol

@@Jay-me7gw You do not even own a truck let alone an EV truck. What you tow does not matter if you have ICE or EV it will act the same either way.

Online it has 6 colors I believe.
No separation of bed and cab? Get sideswiped. Whats the the cost of body repairs?
You got receipts or just on here crying.
$100,000 for 200 mile range... and you end up draining your battery at your campsite ROFLMAO

Wheels are waaay too big and the grill (?) Is something i would have to get used to.
True…don’t need 24….20 would be good
I would personally prefer 18”, more versatile, but I think 24” is slightly more efficient for highway use (where the EV’s need all the help they can get to improve high speed driving range)

Don't need a lot of things but it's pretty cool. I'd tint it if I bought this particular truck personally
They all come pre-tinted, but even my normal sized sunroof gets hot and needs better tint than what the factory provides.

I wouldn't want that glass roof and until it comes with a rust warranty I would not want it. It will rust out in 5 years and that roof will leak.

Towing with an EV will never be viable, until superchargers are set up where you don't have to unhook to charge. End of story.
Many charging companies are building pull through chargers. Including GM.
@sesmeltz1965 how many miles were you getting out of a charge and what speeds
They already are availble
I’ve never had to refuel while towing, but my campsites are within about 2.5 hours of me so a full tank of gas is plenty. I hate the idea of finding a station big enough for a truck and trailer to maneuver and being mostly dependent on truck stops.
Put a battery in a truck that gets 500 miles WHILE TOWING, and pull through superchargers are no longer an issue for 95% of those towing.
who's the camera person?
Too gimmicky. Like you can take a can of electricity with you out in the boonies. 🤦🏼♂️
Price is way too high yet. For about half of that, I would consider buying an EV,
