What I find so compelling about Vintage Story, after years and years of Minecraft, is that one of the long term goals in Minecraft is to automate away all of the tasks so that you need not do them - while in Vintage Story, they've made the tasks engaging enough so that the act of doing them is rewarding in itself.
And afterwards, the things you get out of it (a weapon after lots of forging, or a cellar full of food after a long growing season) are rewards *on top of* the enjoyment of engaging with the systems in the first place.

@@dialko2596 I want to suggest you try playing this game in co-op. The experience is completely different, as if you are a small community in exile. I also recommend choosing the permadeath mode. And yes, if you play in co-op, I suggest setting the spawn radius to at least less than 100, otherwise you and the other players won't find each other. I'm glad you checked out this game, it's very atmospheric.

Fun video! A little tip I wanted to mention, holding an item in your off hand increases your hunger rate, so putting your torch away during the day will help your foraging and hunting last a bit longer. That was a rough spawn point on your first world, don't blame you for rerolling!

You did incredibly well for a first playthrough. Vintage Story quickly became one of my favourite games, it's basically all i wanted from a survival game, so glad more and more people are discovering it. There should be a new update coming pretty soon i belive, the game is constantly growing with a couple of big updates every year and the developers are always listening to the community.

I'm glad you are having a blast with VS! I REALLY love this game.
The progression is a VERY slow burn and may not be to everyones tastes. The cool part about VS is how customizable it is so that can be changed with mods and ingame settings. I personally play with the primative tools mods and slightly more ore surface spawns to boost the early game.
Anyways if you have any any questions about VS let me know! I'm happy to help where I can!

Vintage Story is such a great game, glad you're having fun with it. :)
You can see the "rift activity" (current rate of "portal" spawning) in the character menu (C by default).
Tip: you get better food preservation by storing your containers away from sunlight, so moving your clay vessel inside should give you a bit more time on your foodstuffs. Eventually you will want to think about making a proper cellar (a specific room type, doesn't have to actually be underground), especially once your crops start to come in.

Oh boy, you’re going to love this. If you love old Minecraft, what you’ll enjoy is that every decision you make is valuable, and everything you get feels valuable. Nothing is trivial. You genuinely work for your progress, and you have to make hard decisions on what you will do, because there are real survival and progression tradeoffs for those early decisions. Enjoy it! Will definitely be watching.

This game is absolutely wonderful, glad to see more people enjoying it and giving it some exposure.
It originally was inspired by the Minecraft mod TerrafirmaCraft, it ran quite similar in its style but of course, Minecraft being what it is, is limited in it's modability and such. Thus having a whole separate engine specifically built for this and with modding in mind has created this wonderful game. There's really a lot to it, the metal progression currently reaches steel, there's some mechanics in place for mechanism like wind mills and some smithing automation/assistance.
A couple useful tips for playing, well, 2 buttons really, is C for character and current world data, shows your temperature and what the local region is about. Second button is H, hover over any item and press it and it'll tell you what it's for and how to get it. Obviously you've already seem the guides in there too.
Rest I'm happy to just leave you to figure out, seems you got the right idea on most of it.

Ever since I bought Vintage Story, I haven't played Minecraft. It doesn't scratch every itch that Minecraft does - redstone and command block engineers wouldn't be happy with the game at the moment and even builders would miss some features - but if you're looking for a blocky game about surviving, it doesn't get better than this. Although the best thing about VS, in my opinion, is the developers' relationship with their community - the modding support and the consistently high quality updates based on player feedback.

The spiritual successor to the original TerraFirmaCraft, and you're finally playing it! :)
You could argue this's what Minecraft would've been if Mojang took the survival game route or if they did Notch's "Realism" gamemode idea. As much as I love this type of survival mode, I appreciate Minecraft as an ultimate sandbox more.

Something I would like to ask you to consider, is the music. As much as I love runescape music, I think the vintage story soundtrack is better for vintage story. It's really good. I'm not sure if you've disabled it and are playing RS over it as you play, or if it's an addition to the recording. I think the latter, but regardless. It might be good if you were to let your viewers hear the VS music, as well as the general ambient audio. I love them both, and think that they can stand on their own without needing another soundtrack over them. I just would hope that you'll consider the original audio. It will especially be good for anyone watching that isn't familiar with VS, as it could well be a selling point for them.

How looked my first game in vintage story
Spawn, wandering around, die on hunger.
Spawn, wandering around, trying to craft, die on hunger.
Spawn, got basic food, eat bad mushrooms, die on poison.
Spawn, finally got enough food. Actually read tutorial in game, and...
Sudenly game is fun. Build little house. I have doors. Shelves etc.
    Portals appear. Monsters kill me.
Spawn. Got back i to the house. Found my food is spoiled. Die on hunger.
Spawn, got back. Cooked, trying pottery. Now i can cook proper food. Figured out i can preserve food.
Figuring out if i burry vessels with food and actually use animal fat, that food can be preserved much much longer. now i have enough food. Starting first farm. Gathered bushes with berries.
    Winder is coming.
That game is hard. It dont forgive mistakes. I was frustrated at start but now i actually love it. Now im forging.
So, i RECOMMEND to read ingame tutorials.

Welcome to Vintage Story. It's simultaneously the most cozy, peaceful, calming game... And tense, dire and nerve-wracking.
I can toss you my mod list if you really like. It's mostly just small add-ons, quality-of-life improvements... And something to stop drifters spawning inside your damn house during a storm because THAT is some BULLSH-
If only it was possible to make them batter down your doors or something during a storm - make it really feel like a siege.

Excited to watch this video. I’ve seen a few people play this. How well does it run on your system? Does it feel like it runs pretty good compared to Minecraft Java?
