People in Ireland thought I was weird for being a fan of Ice House. I loved them then and I loved them now. Never understood why they were so under-appreciated

Icehouse are Australia's musical ambassadors - just as Rush represents Canada. This band is the best in the music industry of that country. And Iva Davies is a true Jack of All Trades: He composes, sings, arranges, is a programmer of musical synthesizers, makes mixes and produces - a complete man of arts. Long live for ICEHOUSE!
One can only hope that this music will come back into fashion in the future with younger creative generations with loads of talent. We tend to trend back in time when going forward so who knows? Love Icehouse and Iva Davies. I had a blast in the 1980’s.

@@zoomosis I'd have to do some research to be sure, but my guess is that "Touch The Fire" wasn't even released in the USA, which is why it never hit the charts. The "Man of Colours" CD album I purchased here in the late 90's doesn't even include "Touch The Fire", nor a couple other songs. Wasn't something I even heard until listening to the entire album a few years ago on Spotify. Even the American band Toto has some hit songs (including "Pamela") that were released in other countries in the 80s, but never in their home country. It boggles the mind, because both that song and "Touch The Fire" are key examples of songs that absolutely would have been chart-toppers here in the USA had they not been withheld from the market.

What a superb song this is! I'm proud to say that I saw Iva Davies and his band perform in Newcastle New South Wales back in 1980 (I think), when the band was called "Flowers". They were the support act for Doc Neeson's group, The Angels. I said after the concert that they were much better than The Angels and commented on how much Iva Davies' voice reminded me of David Bowie. In my collection of vinyl LP's back in Oz I have Flowers' original album. The name? Did you guess? "Icehouse"! The title track of that album gave rise to the name of the band we know and love so well! There is a video on UA-cam of the song being performed at the Countdown 1981 Music Awards!

How was this song not a chart-topper? It's absolutely on-par with Crazy & Electric Blue in its day, perhaps even a bit better!
Probably their second best song after Great Southern Land. This track is absolutely fantastic.
It reached #13 in Australia in 1989, so did pretty well.
Oddly "No Promises" only reached #30 a few years earlier.
