Hunting 2500 low to no pressure acres. I never blind call EVER !! When I see a buck that I want to take “ only during the rut” I’ll snort wheeze him wait 30-45 seconds and hit him with 4-5 short soft tending grunts. I won’t say it works 💯 but it works a lot more then it doesn’t !!

Wow! I agree with you 100%. Like yourself, I too believe that grunt calls are overused and many bucks are getting a very good education in avoiding them when they hear them. On the other hand, they are another great tool to use when the conditions are right! Great content and information my friend!

I think calling works great most of the time. Especially if you hunt in the ground … if you’re Moving in and it’s a quiet day you need to make yourself not sound like a human. Some soft grunts help with that. Any other calling is just so situational

Great info man!! I've been watching all these whitetail videos on calling. And a lot of the videos are hit or miss with use or don't use. My season starts here in Eastern Washington on the 25th. Ill call when the time is right. Last thing I need to blow out a buck or any does in the area. What is your opinion of the, "can" call by primos?

New hunter here, I don’t really horse around with the call too much, high pressure area and it seems to spook them good. Much rather take the VC method of taking my climber to a pinch point and finding a good tree right near a trail or scrape to set surprise ambush. Haven’t gotten a monster yet in my second season, but boy howdy I got real close to a giant East Central Illinois buck ground hunting last season. Like 15 feet, just was turned the wrong way. I was set up on the ground when he popped up on the other side that I thought he would. He saw me, I froze and stayed calm (can’t turn and make a shot when frozen, lol) and he got skeeved and slipped out the smart way on the creek bottom where there was no shot, but didn’t blow at me, which deer here will do in a millisecond. I consider it a tie, I fooled him so I win a little and he doesn’t fill my freezer so he wins too. What a beautiful creature. I dream about it weekly. I hope he lives forever and impregnates every doe in the county. Or maybe even more hopefully tomorrow when I set up close to where I was last year and maybe he meanders by after a hot doe. A man can keep dreaming

Total silence, unless a buck that you want has already gotten past you. Don't call at every deer just for kicks,it makes for smarter deer.

3 mini screw-in steps for hanging gun-bow-backpack-rangefinder-binoculars, gutting gloves, knife, 8ft drag rope, spare batteries, flashlight, compass and/or gps, orange marking tape or toilet paper for blood trailing, windicator, grunt tube, bleat can, safety belts or harness, cushion to sit on. Maybe spare hat and gloves. Also maybe a hand muff and hand warmers.

@@whitetaillandmanagement I always hunt into the wind and put a buffer at my back where they can't circle around me like a large lake or a highway but I totally get what your saying I've had on multiple occasions after a rattle they just run in get down wind and then they are gone

Great advise I know I have rattled and been caught from them almost every year by one or more bucks. If they see you move its over. And ya they can pinpoint you fast.

I know kothing about hunting like compared to this guy anyways but woth the idea of a blind call and a bigger one will get down wind from that area. It's rut wouldn't having doe in heat pee be a good idea to lure thek in? Then ur blind calling but they smell a doe and will come in? Or no?

  • @midmoprepper4960

One can over call.... Learned that the hard way. Call once to get his attention, and stop. He'll either come investigate or bust ya.

All depends where you hunt and like he said the situation. I grunt I snort wheeze mostly right before the rut when the buck are seeking and a little ansi. Now I’m the only one hunting this nice land. I hunt on the ground using a ghost blind. I do blind call but not very loud. I will grunt only 3 times and like I said short soft grunts. I wait a half hour and do it again the same way. Then I hear movement and when I see the buck I will give an aggressive call. Now I’m hunting near my mock scrape and when those buck come in the head right for my rope above my scrape and start sniffing it. I try to make myself that buck that made that scrape and for me this works every year. This year I’m after a huge 9 point. Yes the rack is big but the body of this buck is enormous. I’ve passed up an 8 point which I usually don’t do but he’s not nearly as big bodied as this nine so my fiancé passed her Hunters safety course and she is now going to take the eight if she wants it. My point is that grunting where I’m at works for me in that situation. No pressure from other hunters. I’ve had the come within ten yards of me. Sometimes my snort wheeze works better for the blind call but again they work for my situation also you gotta kinda know when to shut up and not call like when you see that buck and grunt and that buck could care less what you had to say. Then you know that’s it. They aren’t interested so keep quiet. I’m just saying what works best for my situation and my hunting area. Now if you have more hunters and thus one us grunting and that one is grunting then I believe those deer are gonna know something isn’t right. This is why I hunt this area. I’ve been hunting it for 30 years and it’s not well known but it’s damn good good hunting there every year and every year I see new young bucks that are going to look delicious in the next couple years. I’m talking so far 4 four points with at least 8-10 inch in height two six points 3 spikes one with 6-8 in height but big bodied and I’m hunting near an apple orchard oh and keys not forget the big black bear that I come face to face with for the first time ever who decided to show his face when my fiancé hinted for the very first time. Need less to say we both got out gear tags and he just tried to eat my trail cam the other morning. I’m hoping to buy this section of land cuz it’s been real good to me.
