    Hello Natalie,
    Thank you for all that info. You mentioned W-2 like a problem at the time you do your taxes. Let me tell you: W-2 are nothing compare with 1099 tax statements. I guess in Colorado dentists are nicer than Texas dentists. In Texas, most dentists use 1099 tax forms to pay their part-time and private contractors which it is a pain. The worst part of 1099 is that hygienists have to pay a higher tax (in Texas is 13.5% instead of 7.5% tax for W-2 ). With W-2 your employer has to pay part of the taxes, but with 1099 they do not have to pay anything. Hygienists have to pay the whole thing. A lot of hygienists in Texas believe they are making more money when temping but it is not true.

      Wow! That totally sucks! From what I’m reading on the FB groups I’m in dentists are trying the 1099 crap here too. I haven’t done any temping in a while so I never had to deal with that.

    I would love a video on what’s important to pack in your bag when you’re temping and also what you pack now as a permanent RDH. Thank you :)

    Hi there! These are great tips and I enjoyed listening to them! The fact that you chose to be temp right out of school is inspiring because I hear you need dental hygiene experience before temping! You completely changed that outlook for me! Though I do have some questions I hope you don't mind answering! I was wondering what apps to use to find temp positions? Also it sounds you're pretty much full time so do you work near the city or how many days a week do you work that you're able to live off of this temp career? Thank you so much!

      Hey! I have been a hygienist for 12 years. But qtempted just my first two years out of school. So I haven’t been a temp for a while. There were two agencies near me when I graduated so I signed up with the one nearest me.
      She kept me working 4-5 days a week though. So it was easy to live off the work and pay back my school loans.
      These days there is an app called Dental Cloud that people are using. I haven’t tried it personally. You could check it out and let me know what you think.
      Best wishes!

    How do you find temping agencies in your state?

    How do you know who to talk to to temp?

      Koycelyn you can leave your resume at different offices, go through a temp agency, use the app or get into the Facebook dental groups and put yourself out there as a temp. 🙂

    So would you say temping is just like part time position

    • @nataliebartonRDH
      @nataliebartonRDH  6 років тому +2

      Olivia Branch I guess you could say that. Super part time. Sometimes you end up at the same office again and sometimes you never see them again.

      Thank you for replying! I also got the chance today to talk to my hygienist today about temping since I’m currently observing to get into the dental program in my area! Please keep posting videos

      Olivia Branch what other videos topics would you like to see? I’m going to put one up next week if I can get it filmed tomorrow on taking Panoramic x-rays

      Natalie Barton have you done a video about your experience in the actual dental hygiene program? Helpful tips on how students should study for some of the courses they would be taking. For example, I’m currently taking my prereqs and facing difficulty in my anatomy classes! (Yes I realize that people have different ways of learning but it would still be pretty helpful!)
