My goal is to be a dental hygienist by 24 (I’m 20). I want to be a hygienist for a few years and save for dental school to lessen the blow of debt I will get. The end goal is to be a dentist by 33, 34. I’m excited to go on this journey. Your video was awesome, thanks.
Hey Lexi V, thanks for the comment. Glad the video was of help to you. Great idea! I will start working on one. Trying to crank out another trip video right now. Busy busy! :) Best of luck with your new career!
Wonderful video!!!! I chuckled when you said you liked doing their lower anteriors first because you get the satisfaction, and the patient feels good. It’s so true! I did that even in school. Currently waiting on my license so i can start working- really enjoyed your video. Thank you!! What kind of massages do you get? (Any specific name?)
Loved this video! Please make more hygiene videos. I’d love tips for hygiene school students & study tips or your experience with anything RDH related. I’m currently finishing prerequisites to apply. Thank you
candirichter Thanks so much for your comment! I am working on some new content that will be out soon. Good luck with school! I will dig out my books and take a stroll down memory lane with you guys at some point. 😃
I have 2 years left in DH school and I'm really worried about pain working when I'm in a real office. You mention massages 2x a month, do you have any other recommendations? Do you do chairside stretches between patients? I'd love to see a video on this topic. Thanks for the content!!
Natalie Barton i just found your channel today but i would love to see tips for dental hygiene school (starting dh school next fall) & a day in the life (if you’re still in working in dental hygiene)
e & m It’s been 11 years since I was in school. So I will have to see what I remember. Haha. I wish I was near my school. I would do a tour. 😊 I am still practicing. I will see what I can come up with for that. Great ideas 👍🏻
Bill Russell, Absolutely! It’s actually one reasons I got my B.S. and not just my A.S. But to do it, would still be a lot of work. College classes, then taking the DAT, then going to a dental school for four years of training. Unless someone wanted to specialize, then you can add on another couple years on to that. So, totally possible. But a lot of work. 😊
Bill Russell yes but why would they want to? Dental hygienists make 78k a year and dental school will be at least 400k in debt plus the cost to buy and manage an office. No thanks
Randi Sharie Knipe. I went to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Southern California. Would have been nice to stay in Colorado but I had a bunch of friends and family at LLU.
I'm looking to move forward with DH pre requisites But I'm factoring in my age when I would graduate from DH program- 44 ... Is it wise to enter this profession so late or should I try respiratory therapist instead? Unbiased opinion please.... My heart does like the preventative aspect of DH how gum disease is linked to systemic diseases and I have empathy because I have periodontal disease myself... I would also like to do mission trips... Maybe teach one day also...
Hey Jeff, really only you can answer that. I had a woman in my class that graduated with us in her 40’s. I think she is still doing hygiene. It is a good job for men and women. So I hope you will continue to consider it. Thanks so much for watching and best of luck in your decision.
Q1: The google said. “Entry level is education associates degree” what’s that mean?! Q2: what’s is the difference between between associates and bachelors for rdh?! Thank u:*
Samire Hassanzadeh I had to get an associates degree to get into the hygiene school I wanted to apply for. So I graduated with a useless AS and a BS in hygiene. Answer 2: As far as pay and work opportunities, no difference. If you want to go on and get your doctorate, masters or switch to another medical career in you furniture or teach. It is better to have your BS.

Can a dental hygienist become a dentist? If yes, how, do I need a bachelor's degree in dental hygien? Thanks
