The dental world is small, don't burn any bridges even if you never plan to work with someone again, be as professional as possible about exiting a job or relationship with a dental person bc once you're in it long enough people all kind of know each other in some way.
I just got accepted to college for General Education with a concentration on Pre Dental Hygiene. I’m 28 already with a Bachelors but dental hygiene has been a fixation of mine and I am happy to be pursuing it. You’ve been a major inspiration Whitney!
I got got accepted into my schools program for the fall of ‘24. I am sooo nervous! I’ll be done December of ‘25. So there are no summers off. It’s go go go. My first semester is 7 classes. Gahh! Wish me luck please! ❤️
Damn Im super happy for you. Hell I’m still waiting on my transcript to come through to even start dental school. And it sucks so bad I have to just sit back and wait…. But I’m gonna get some books and start studying on the beginning stages of the things I need to kno before hand anyway because I’m just way to anxious to not do nothing at all lol😬…
I finally got my GED! And I also did an TSI 2 exam. I am ready to go into the prerequisites. If I start some clases this fall I may be ready to apply for dental hygiene next fall. I honestly saw it only as a fools dream but every time I take more steps I see the path clearer, but daunting yet more achievable every step I take every day.
@@nicolelove6230 So I just started to take my prerequisites this week! I love all my classes. I am in the middle of a job change as well that will allow me to study more even if I will only be making enought for the essentials. Which I don't mind because it wouldn't be the first time I do something of the sort.

I am surprised it is difficult to find patients since dental insurance is often not included with regular health insurance so a lot of people have trouble paying for dental care.
Just had a clean and a natural plus teeth whitening with hygienist I’m convinced they mark your teeth with metal tools leave scratches in teeth! I think he may have filled my front teeth shorter!!!! My best advice to others is always take before and after photos I’m rant self conscious now o literally think he shortened the teeth in so fucking mad!!!!!
I wish I knew RDH don't have recerprocity the way nurses do. You have to have a license per state and regional exam like WREB SERTA, NERB to name a few. Most dental offices have no 401K, medical insurance or any real benefits with pay. If the dentist doesn't work, you may not work either. Every license has to be renewed annually or so. Out of pocket cost for CEs per state. Getting bitten, thrown up on and smelling really bad breath all day. I can pick up perio in an elevator when someone exhales. I have 3 state licenses which is $600 every 2 years plus CEs and loops. It adds up quickly!
I’m thinking it has something to do with the different types of people you encounter within the industry. And how to handle different people’s tolerance and the way they project pain and being uncomfortable?
it's very common for people to have dental anxiety/phobias, as well as dealing with people who are struggling with mental health issues or addiction, as well as working in team environments
@@geelllee yea that’s what I thought too. To basically understand why someone has a poorer oral health compared to someone else due to their mental health
Hi! I’m a recent hygiene graduate and I’ll keep it short and simple. You have clinics and you have your other courses. Finding patients and treating them goes towards your clinic grade. You need a certain amount of clinic hours in order to receive your degree. If you fail to have a patient in your schedule then it will go against your grade. I hope this helped
Hey, quick question…..👀 Ummm, are u selling ur books 📚 like all the ones u mentioned on this video? If so how much are u considering to sale them for exactly $$$$ because I just got My HSED from my college and have a whole month or two this year to really try to get in to Dental School as a Dental Hygienist and is really in need of some things to start studying and practicing on before I get in so that I can be a bit more than ready to start off with???? Please let me kno something asap or if u can recommend some great books or just any resources that could help….😅
Taking the prerequisites right now and having second thoughts due to job security... If greedy dentist don't want to pay hygienist anymore, can't they just do the cleanings themselves instead? Having second thoughts because of job security...
Become an SLP unless you want to break your neck and be used as a cash cow for a dentist. 15-years in and total regret. All RDHs I know regret being one. FYI
@@heather5926 speech language therapist? Why do you choose that as an alternative? And yeah I'm actually actively looking for other careers to pursue but I hate nursing
One good thing about being a RDH, you can e work 1 day a month or full time. People really make or break this profession when it comes to burn out. During the "great recession " i was still able to work as a RDH while my husband was unemployed for almost 2 years. The average RDH career is 7 years before physical and emotional burn out happen.
Hii mam Please help me Ive got some tartar on the inner side of my lower incisors....the dentist said maybe because of my teeth angle/shape..I even got it removed...but it grew back I do brush twice...should I get it removed again..or let it be...
It's important to remove calculus buid up on your teeth regularly and if it continues to form in the same place make sure you are brushing correctly with an electric toothbrush toothbrush and floss every day x
Hello there I was just wondering whether is it normal for my front tooth to move very slightly,I can feel it when I place a finger in there and tap with another tooth but can’t feel it move with my tongue or can’t see it in the mirror,Is this normal or should I be worried and contact my dentist?
If you are clenching or grinding this may be why the tooth is moving. It may also be the way your teeth come together when you bite down. You may hit a specific tooth harder then other when biting together. Their are hair like ligaments called Periodontal ligaments that attach your teeth into your jaw bone. Hitting a tooth hard when biting together, biting fingers nails, or clenching can stretch these teeth ligaments out. Bring this subject to your dentist attention. Have it checked. Stretched out Periodontal ligaments can also tighten up, so don't stress to much. It's best brought to your dental professionals attention. It could be gum disease so best to have your dentist check and evaluate.

Anyone have any hacks for getting through the prerequisites quickly? If i take the 5 classes I need, it'll take me 2 years to even apply.

there is a shortage in hygienists right now! sooo many offices are hiring! hope this helps!
and also in some states -- hygienists can own their own offices!
