Wow! great tip mate! Thanks a lot!
Haha we have been doing this in Australia for years, Except we call it a burnout switch😂 Thanks for making a video.
It’s a great little hack, there just wasn’t a ton of info out there about it, so I wanted to try and help people.
Excellent thorough explanation/construction/installation
👍
Thank you very much. There isn’t much detailed info on building one, so I thought I’d really try to show guys how it’s done and how it works.
Great video and Q&A from the comments, really appreciate how well you cover things. The thought I had was not only can you launch better but this thing could also be a good theft deterrent. As long as you remember to turn it on,, but keeping it off could stop someone from stealing your car I would imagine...
That’s a very good point. If you flip that switch off the car will not start. It will prompt you to check the brake lamp fuse.
Reall great overview! I’d be curious what your dragy results were comparing the switch on versus off, with all else being equal.
I did a video with out the switch previously. My best time was 4.24 0-60 and 12.33 quarter mile.
Awesome video man, I was curious if this would be ok for someone with a completely stock stinger/g70 (no jb4, no upgraded plugs, etc.)?
I’m sure it’s okay, all it’s allowing you to do is basically a brake stand.
Nice!
Do you hold the pedal to the floor prior to launch/letting go of the brake? Or do you ease into the pedal and launch at desired rpm?
No, you feather the peddle to about 2500rpm , let go of the brake and stomp on it. It definitely takes some practice.
Awesome video man thanks. Shift at 5200 to keep it in boost Boost falls off hard after that I bet you will break into the 11s
Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out and see what happens. Maybe I’ll do a video on it if I’m successful.
Solid video. Is your gt2 rwd or awd?
Thank you very much! The car is a gt2 awd.
@@OVRBoosted What tires are you running? I'm still bone stock, wondering if JB4 is worth it. I don't have access to E85 where I live, and I don't plan to mod other than a JB4 and maybe the plugs. Can just closing the gap on stock plugs work?
@@SSKev121 I’m just running the Michelin pilot sports they come with the car.
Hey! Do you change your Default wastegate pos(DWP) number in your JB4 settings at all?
I left everything as is I have not changed anything in the default settings.
Great video! A good alternative to a tuned TCU.
I ultimately want a tcu, but this is a good cheap way without cutting and wires and it’s very easy to remove.
@@OVRBoosted What do you use to create your thumbnail graphics? They look good!
@@SlipAngleG70 I just use Canva and edit them to my liking. I take a template and change it. Lots to choose from on there.
How would you compare this to your recent TRANS LAP3 ECU upgrade? Is it worth It ($1500 trans ECU)
I like the TCU better, the reason being you don’t have to flip any switches that disable a component in your car. Is it worth 1500.00?? I personally don’t think so. I feel there is cheaper options available as far as TCU tunes go and they do relatively the exact same thing. You are paying 1500.00 for Lap3’s reputation. They do make a great product, but it’s way overpriced in my personal opinion.
I know you have JB4, but what map were you on so we all know how you got those times in combination with the switch..?
I was running map 4. I use that map daily in my car. I don’t have cpi or meth, but I do have a little e85.
@@OVRBoostedAre you running the E30 mix? I was reading that you can get some drop off on the high end in Map 4 on a stock fuel pump. Is this something you’ve found? My JB4 is landing Tuesday
@@simonfarmery7356 I
Have had no drop off when I run e30. At least nothing noticeable. I ran an 11.9 quarter on map 4 and a 3.78 0-60 and I had a high da on my dragy. At the end of the day if you do have a little drop off it won’t be that noticeable. I haven’t had any fuel pump issues yet. Lol
Why do all of the pictures of the fuse wire look like its a loop? Do I have to cut it and connect the taps from the switch?
It is a loop connected to a micro mini fuse tap. You don’t have to remove any tape.
@@OVRBoosted yeah but in the video yours isn't a loop anymore, im VERY new to this kind of stuff so sorry if this is a dumb question. Do I need to like cut that loop, then attach the ends that come with the switch to the cut ends of that loop?
@@MaagPlaysGolfI’m not sure I understand. The beginning of that video shows exactly how it’s constructed.
@@OVRBoosted I appreciate your help! Yeah I'm probably not using the correct language. When I click on the link to your 'fuse wire' in the description, the red wire does NOT have those ends that are in your video. The ends that connect to the switch and the yellow fuse. It is just a loop with the fuse holder. Do I need to cut that loop or something? Do you have discord or anything like that so I can send you pictures of what i mean?
Could you just pull the fuse with the car on then push it back in after stopping? assuming its just for a launch then stop
I’m not 100% sure if that would work, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Remember you have no brake lights when they circuit is broken.
I cannot find this style fuse tap anywhere. Can I get a better description or a link?
I do have a link in the video description. It’s a micro mini fuse tap. I know a lot of places seem to be out of stock at the moment. I got mine off of Amazon.
@@OVRBoosted Thanks.I actually found a better option for eight dollars
After doing this does the car let you brake boost for roll racing
I’m not sure if that’s possible, I just know it allows boost from a dig.
Do you get an ESP fault when you switch off and go to launch it?
You will get a fault sometimes, once you turn the car off and on again it clears.
@@OVRBoosted i couldn’t get mine to go away(maybe I didn’t wait long enough) I plugged in my maxisys to clear it out, just takes forever lol
@@onedadsgarage just turn off the car and turn on maybe a couple of times and it should clear. That’s why I prefer the tcu tune. You don’t deal with that issue anymore. However the cost between the two a drastically different.
what jb4 map were you running on?
I always run map 4 with e30. I daily the car in that map setting.
@@OVRBoosted best map to daily 😂
@@OVRBoosted Great Buddy, what is your E85 Gauge reading on your JB4 gauges? Thanks
@@G70TT the only 85 gauge on the jb4 is not accurate. I put about 5 gallons in the tank.
@@OVRBoosted thanks Sr. For quick response, I will try to be on 30 on that gauge, but yeah that what I normally do 5 gallons of E85
Thanks for the tip of brake harness appreciate
Are you getting any dash warning lights with this? Is it normal?
I did receive the dash lights a few times. It’s to be expected as you’re tricking the ecu. Once it figures out what’s going on it throws lights. You just flick the switch back into the on position and turn the car off and n and it clears them. I have since moved to a tcu tune that allows me the same launch control, but no lights.
@@OVRBoosted thanks much for the quick reply. And yes, that seems like a much better long term solution
@@captainstevo25 yes, this video is a quick hack, but a tcu tune is the preferred option.
Link for the guy that sells the harness?
I don’t have his link, just search boost launch harness on Facebook and the group should pop up for you.
2020 stingergt2 with a cracked differential. Waiting for warranty coverage from kia 🙄 used launch control twice......
What did you launch it at RPM wise?
Yeah I want to know how much boost you built up before launching
I do about 2000 -2100rpm
@@texmechanica3405 5-7psi
@@texmechanica3405I believe the stock launch is around 3. I don’t go to crazy because I don’t want to break things. I’m content with a 3.8 0-60 and an 11.9 quarter
Could we use this as an anti theft option?
I suppose you could if you hide the switch. I mean the car will not start if it senses the brake lights aren’t working.
@@OVRBoostedcar will still start after holding push start for around 10 seconds with no brake pressure
@@nicholaslombardo9696 interesting, I never knew that.
I"m off like a prom dress to find these components at Princess Auto...
Make sure you look for a micro mini fuse tap not a mini tap.
What else have you done?
In what sense?
@OVRBoosted tune specifically. I have lap 3 (ecu, tcu)on a g70 and I'm seeing if this would reduce the the lag.
@@trumpone4443 when that video was taken all I had was a jb4 on e30. Now I run a lap 3 tcu, so I got rid of the harness because lap 3 has a better launch control.
@@OVRBoosted awesome answer. Did you do anything after that change?
@@OVRBoosted I don't know anyone who has this/these. I'm at the cpi and primary downpipes decison. I m just surfing for anything else.
This technically doubles as a anti theft device to
You are correct my fiend. It’s a great anti these device.
Just wait till you have a code pop up for something 😏.. when that dealers scanner reads you car it will trigger "void warranty".. you can trick the moduals but you cannot trick the 5 data loggers these cars come with.. oh yeah there's 5.. your cluster is 1 your navigation is another your speed sensor modual is another your transmission controller is another and your engines computer is another.. They all send the data in real time to your KIA ACESS APP.. good luck with that.. if you use a piggyback/standalone/racechip/or anything that blocks signals to access factory settings will trigger your warranty... Best way to modify the car is to have the work done at the dealership you bought the car at.. want a FMIC/BOV/exc have the dealer do the work so your warranty stays... Dealers can tune the car to accept the upgrades.. no reason to hack the car and might even hold value better with re-sale so yeup do not DIY a car with 60k+ warranty.. bad idea
It’s just the brake light fuse. It’s honestly no different then pulling out the fuse. It’s pretty harmless, but thanks for your opinion it’s very helpful.
@@OVRBoosted FYI - No Kia dealer can tune or will be willing to tune for accepted upgrades. Our dealer group owns 4 Kia dealerships.
No thanks lol.
It’s not for everyone, it is a cheap easy option, but not ideal. I did move to a lap3 tcu instead and I do prefer it.
@OVRBoosted I mean if it didn't mess up with starting the car on and off, may be a good idea but, the hassle of messing with that is probably a no to me lol.
@@kuvyoghmoobamelica6883 I agree, but some like it as an added anti theft device. So there is that aspect.
Will giving it early boost over time damage the engine?
Well, from what I read on threads launching the car to much on just the stock launch isn’t the best. It’s not the engine that’s the concerns. The weak link in these cars seems to me the transmission. I’d never recommend lancing over 2500rpm. I usually launch at 2000-2100rpm that’s a pretty safe target, just make sure you’re not constantly launching when your trans temps are to high. It will cause added stress. Most transmission issues come into play with high rpm launching as well as launching with high trans temps.
@@OVRBoosted hmm that’s good to know. Makes sense as well why higher Rpms can be bad for the trans.
I plan on getting a genesis g70 so I assume it applys for that engine as well since it’s exactly the Same?
@@OVRBoosted what is the point of this if you launch barely above the factory 2K? Are you actually building a little boost with this mode even at say 2200K?
@@captainstevo25 you only build about 1-2psi on the factory launch. This allows you to build as much boost as you feel you want. I prefer to launch at 3-5psi so I don’t damage the transmission. Some guys launch off of 8lbs. Around 2000-2200rpm builds around 5psi.
