So my friends and I were talking about the Nintendo and she was telling me about her mother’s and how it had over 100 games, and I assumed that it was the Nintendo classic with games added in. So last night she plugs it in, and low and behold it’s the COOLBABY.
My stepdad got me a differently named version of the Coolbaby without realizing it wasn't the real thing...I don't mind though, I enjoyed it :)
My girl wound up with one of these, so whenever she comes over we play mario or whatever else we find and have a generally good time on it. But I love janky systems with friends.

This reminds me of that time my mom came back from a trip in Thailand with a GBA cartridge that advertised 62 games in one. It actually was a blessing cause even it was very rough interface wise it actually had 62 classics from NES and SNES completely playable. In 2002 I had the chance to try those games like a kid in the 90s. I'm so grateful for that. I just wish I could find again the cartridge :(
Ahhh yes, the classic four red button design. It's the Clark W Griswald Station Wagon design for gamers.
Well, they have the same controller ports the Mega Drive/Genesis uses (or even the Amstrad Mega PC, if you want to play with a $70 controller on a $10 system). Master system controllers probably won't work (no Start button).
I got a bootleg one at the mall for $80. I didn't know it was bootleg till after I bought it. It came with like 630 games . And I love it.

I'm shocked that the console actually has that many games. Usually, its just Super Mario Bros, Battle city, Lode runner, etc, repeated till the infinite (After the second/third menu, its like Mario XLD, Mario ADC or made up names like that).

My mother is a hairdresser and has worked at the same place for nearly 20 years and has been friends with 2 Thai ladies who have been there b4 her. They had given her a GBA cartridge with 160 games for my own GBA. It had a lot of these Mario knock offs that I played because I didn't know any better lol. But it had fun games, some of them emulatons of original games that actually worked well. Played a lot of Super Mario, Arkinoid, Castlevania, and Excite Bike etc. Never owned my own console until my late teens, just had my GBA with 160 and a plug and play throughout my childhood lol

I grew up with cartridges like this. I had never seen an original Nintendo console or cartridges ever in my childhood. Hell, I didn't even know Nintendo was a thing.
Lots and lots of folks in developing countries, so I found when I looked it up, grew up with a PolyStation as their "NES" systems. I actually kind of want one.
But the original. Not v3. That thing sucks XD
You are able to use the original Nintendo controllers, you just need an adapter.
EDIT: These Atari-style ports have been used in Chinese clones of NES since 80s and are used to this day, an example we can see here.

I remember way back when, My mom got me something just like this. Not the CoolBaby, but the exact same piece of hot garbage with a different name & rom loaded in. The thing broke within a month. I couldn't have cared less.

I've just got one, the hdmi version. Yes, it has a lot of homebrew and hack games; but it also have games that I like and have played a lot: Tetris (Tengen version), Jewellery, Adventure island 1 to 4... And a lot of good games like Pacman, Donkey kong, Pacmania, Pinball, Popeye, Contra, Over horizon, Ninja turtles, Arkanoid, Snow bros, Gradius, Galaga, Galaxian, Parodius... There are some classics missing like Zelda, Castlevania and Duck Hunt, but these games that I mentioned earlier make this console a good choice.

I bought mine over five years ago, and it still works fine and a lot of fun to play.
The best thing to do to compensate for the short cables on the NES and SNES classic controllers is to purchase extension cords for the controllers. Best Buy sells them for relatively cheap and it's the right length for me. I had thought the reason for the short controller cords to begin with is because of the compatibility with the Wii and Wii U Wiimote. They probably figured it didn't need to be that long since the controllers could be used to play the virtual console games that are offered on Nintendo's eShop. Of course, that's no help for us retro gamers who bought the classic consoles and have little or no interest in the virtual console.
My guess as of why there aren't games like Zelda and Final Fantasy on the console is that it isn't capable of emulating battery saves, so it couldn't run games for which being able to save and resume later is a big part of the experience.
My kids (7, 5 and 4) are all obsessed with Mario of late, having never ever played it in their life - it's all from UA-cam videos I think. So to be honest, they will LOVE all the different 'Mario' games. Though understand why an adult would find the knock-offs frustrating

I use to play that game in the 90"s those were actually "cheats" or "secret hidden paths" and there was a book sold showing all the "hidden paths" "techniques in other games as well.

I prefer commercial products because they support the developers, tend to have better quality, and prevent you from getting addicted to piracy, but the biggest problem most of these knock off consoles have is there is no save state / save function.
Sega Genesis also used the Atari joystick port and the Sega Genesis paddles worked on Atari 2600

Where can I find an early Neitendo game I believed it's called "Defenders of the Universe. In the beginning it is similar to that method game where you are flying through meteors and have to shoot them down . You have to shoot them over and over till they disappear. You are not flying across the screen but rather you fly toward the screen. Once completed you enter a new level where you seek out unsavory characters and weapons to destroy them. There's a super powerful weapon bomb you earn and find but it will destroy the whole planet and you have to start ove, I believe. . Anyone out here know this obscure game? It was one of my first games I played and it was around the year 1989. The game was fun with so interesting with music and beats.

It isn't odd that this thing has no hdmi actually. HDMI is not open standart, you actually need to pay 8 grand to get the specifications for the standard.
My aunt actually got this one during 2021. You know. Dark era of covid. Especially in Vietnam. Nevertheless, for something to do aside Internet, it entertained us pretty well.
