Japan had a gentlemen's rule amongst the makers that said that their cars would not exceed 278 hp. This was done to keep makers from getting into engine wars. The car may be listed as 278 hp but could be more (or less).
The auto pre facelift legnum and galant vr4s made 260hp and did 0-100kph in about 6.2 seconds tested on nz roads and the manuals made more boost and made 305hp and did 0-100kph anywhere from 5.4 to 6 sec those were brand new pfl leggys in the 90s making their full 10-11 psi
