    Adam cannot contain his excitement as he visits the spacesuits shop on the production of Alien: Covenant! Meeting with costume designers Janty Yates and Michael Mooney, Adam tries on one of the amazing new spacesuits from the film and sits with Janty to discuss how design works with technology to make these suits possible.

      What are you talking about? He was in at least one episode. He was a dude on the science ship that goes to Venus towards the end of season 2.

    • @daveglas1972
      @daveglas1972 7 років тому +6

      He is in a 2 scenes right at the end of the last episode. Its a bit jarring actually as he suddenly appears on the bridge of the science ship orbiting Venus seated at a station, has 1 line then his next scene is when the ship is dismantled (which was awesome) and you see the captain, the science guy and Adams character just hanging in the Venus atmosphere with the ship exploded around them. (again really awesome).

      WhenItCounts Why not? He may not a physicist or mathematician, but to have the spacial awareness and skillsets to design and build like he does is not common. People struggle with Ikea furniture, yet Adam is able to bring a freeform thought to reality in his own.

      These clips make me feel compelled to watch the movie in theaters, something I rarely do any more.
      *Hey Hollywood Executives* Do you want to reconnect with more 30-something males in the US? Pay Adam to do these full time. Seriously, this is far more interesting and engaging than the trailers I ignore. I was impressed by Adam's last reveal of the Alien set and the environment, his perspective on construction techniques, and the effort involved to help emerse the actors in the environment was memorable. I have no affiliation with Adam, and I watched the last alien set segment the day it came out. I still clearly remember it. This is effective 21st century marketing. -Add depth and intelligence to the back story.

    If weight and room are not a big problem in space travel anymore, a complete hard suit is a really good concept for a space suit that is meant to be used in micro/zero gravity. They are easier to move than a pressurised soft suit and also much more robust and durable.

    • @BoogaKiln
      @BoogaKiln 7 років тому +9

      even if weight itself is not a problem, more mass equals more inertia, that might be a problem

    • @tomnewsom9124
      @tomnewsom9124 7 років тому +8

      The key thing is that the hard suit has a constant volume, so the astronaut doesn't have to fight against the internal pressure. That pressure can therefore be higher; as high as the pressure in the spacecraft in fact. Current ISS suits are at a lower pressure than the station, to increase their flexibility. This means many hours of pre-breathing before any EVA, to acclimate to the lower pressure.

      Like you say, 50kg is still 50kg and the laws of forces and counter forces are still in place.

    • @TheAkashicTraveller
      @TheAkashicTraveller 7 років тому

      A mechanical counter pressure suit would be much better than both allowing full flexibility and having size of a wet-suit plus breathing gear.

    • @xureality
      @xureality 7 років тому +1

      Jack Evans except for the fact that a mechanical counter pressure suit needs to be extremely accurately sized for each person or you'll have lots of fitment issues. whereas a hard suit could be a "one size fits all" which makes it a lot cheaper to produce.

    1:00 "When NASA does this, it costs millions of dollars..." Yeah, well when NASA does it, it actually has to survive the harsh tolerances of the vacuums of space, temperature fluctuation, chemical resistance and insulated against conductivity among other requirements. Obviously, for a film shoot, this is outstanding effort and quality.

    I am so envious of Adam Savage. I love spacesuits. I absolutely adore spacesuits. When I was a child my only dream was to become an astronaut but unfortunately due to a myriad of things I was never able to do so. But seriously getting the chance to not only wear the hard shell space suit but you know later video the other space suit the more soft skin one I mean seriously I am so jealous of him. My only question now is why didn't he put on the rest of the hard shell suit? If I were him I would have asked them to put the entire thing on me.

    as much as I miss MB, I am so thrilled with what Adam is doing at tested.com. What I Love about his videos like this are that he's equally skilled at conversational interviews as well as straight up interviews where you get the **** out of the way of whoever you're talking to, and as importantly he knows when to do which style. So many interviewers get in the way of their guest (Jon Stewart Im looking at you) but Adam knows when to participate and when to stand back.
    I would love to see him do a show in the format of NDT Startalk, where each week he has a subject and has discussion with some other people live (like untitled) but also interviews some expert on that subject or goes on location to see a person. He could do so many different subjects involved with lovemaking, from directing to prop making, to miniatures to painting, to set design to costume design and wardrobe. I would watch the shit out of that. Honestly half the tested videos are essentially that, I just wish there were more of them and that they were longer and more of a tv style format with graphics and such.

    Adam couldn't wear the legs because of his,... excitement. ;) Great video guys, more interviews please, even if you need to wait for a post release NDA. It will still be interesting.

      It's all been replaced by VFX in the final movie. Suit and set (that part with the orange wheel). Save the hands, and Dany's face (the CG model was lined up so perfectly that we only had to replace the piece with CG and add the glass part on top) because hands are a pain in the *** to animate, and great CG face was too much work, altho still rendered for reflections purposes). Great references tho (hold a piece of that suit in my hands).

    "NASA does this, it costs millions of dollars."
    NASA deals in real space suits worn by real astronauts. They're two incomparable products for two incomparable functions.

    Because 70 years from now space suit is heavier and bulkier than current space suit.

      Peizxcv right it's like the people who make prequels have never heard of continuity.

      actually all of this comes from Alien which was made on such a moment that the vision of the future was way "older" than the one we have now, so in theory, even if its the future its more like a retrofuturistic imagination, not a realistic one. Just notice the kind of stuff, designs and technology of the Sulaco.

    To be brutally honest the #1 failure of all Hollywood space suits in my opinion is that they focus on lighting the cast. No one gives a shit if we can see their faces, but we know they have bright lights in their eyes so they can't see out their bloody visors and it makes it all utterly unbelievable. We can deal with 120 seconds of the talents face being invisible if it means we won't have to suspend disbelief to such an extreme. Lighting the inside of a helmet is bloody ridiculous, and instantly disengages me from any films believability.
