    Where you in a vacuum chamber? If so what pressure did it get down to?

  • @lasvegasbrad
    @lasvegasbrad 5 років тому +5

    I can tell you for SURE it would take hours to vacuum pump down to a few Torr. They probably got to some few 100's. "high" vacuum is 1 milli-Torr, which is quite difficult in a large chamber. Outer space is 1 micor-Torr and lower. I have done vacuum testing on high voltage equipment, and it is crazy the troubles you get. But still, this was a very interesting video. And like others, this proves the impossibility of 2 men getting into a LEM, both with full suits on, and then somehow de-suiting inside the cramped cabin without techs to help.

    • @KimJakab
      @KimJakab 5 років тому

      Thanks for your info!
      What I have heard, there were several equipment or gears NASA never tried on earth since it was too "risky" or material physically not possible.
      Will post one link with information about the LEM and its hypergolic engine. You will be surprised that these engines never were or could be tested on earth, but functioned 100% every time on the moon and the pilots operated these LEMs also with 100% perfection :)

      Are you trying to disprove the moon landings here?

    • @Nghilifa
      @Nghilifa Рік тому

      Huh? These two suits are not comparable at all, the Orlan (as shown here) is an EVA suit designed for operation in a "weightless" environment (ie free-fall), whilst the A7L (The Apollo EMU) was designed to work in both free-fall and 1/6 lunar gravity. The Apollo EMU has more joins for mobility, it also operates at a lower atmospheric pressure (3.7 psi compared to the 5.8 psi of the Orlan) to facilitate easier movement (it was still difficult).
      You have no idea on what you're talking about.

      I work with and design spacesuits, the Orlan suit shown here has a few good features that NASA is trying to adopt with their new EVA designs. The single piece suit with rear entry is a lot easier to don and doff compared to the multi-piece suit the US uses. The Orlan also operates at a higher pressure which is better for the astronaut inside.
