I agree. I would have liked to have seen a metal finish on this but it's certainly good enough. It isn't as powerful as the dock but it does everything I need it to do when mobile.

just wondering: sometimes when you connect the power to the hub, the speed and reliability of the connected devices can improve (as opposed to when the power is supplied via the computer connexion) ... it then becomes like a powered dock. It would be worth trying to see if there is any effect.
You don't have to plug power into the hub. It will work fine and power accessories using just the battery from the laptop. However, I'm guessing you know that and are asking if it's possible to use external power to feed the hub and connected devices but not charge the laptop all the time. In which case, no. I have not found one.

Can I connect Samsung Galaxy, which has 45 Watts Charger, with 100 Watts USB Hub or only Tabs/mobiles which has similar Watts for smooth function ? 3. Do I need to give extra charge to USB hubs when connected to TAB/MOBILE (like built in battery or power through acharger),because Mobile/Tabs have less power than Laptop, to give charge to the USB Hub ,when it connects to mobile /tablet ?
Hi, thanks a lot for your review. I’m genuinely considering to buy this port. It feels like best case scenario for USB-C hub. Could you test the USB-A and USB-C data transfer port using the same 10gbps external ssd pls? They have the same theoretical speed so they should perform the same, but I doubt it. If I can only get around 250mb/s through USB-A port, I would rather to have some cheaper alternatives.
Why is no one testing the power consumption of these devices. They don't even give specification about the efficiency of the power conversion/passthrough.
Great video and thank you for the prompt response. I just bought a MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip. I bought the Anker hub but my power supply that came with the MacBook is only 70W. What power supply do you use with your hub?
Why is the cable so short, I want to have all my cables in my cable tidy under the desk, this is to short which leads ot loads of cables on the desk looking ugly, if it was 10-20cm longer it be perfect
A short cable makes it handy for carrying in a bag. If you're after a neat fixed installtion, a dock is better than a hub. Performance is usually better too. Price is the downside, of course.
Yes. All hubs and docks that I have ever used get warm. The Anker 13-in-1 dock gets hot but this hub just gets a bit warm. You can't expect to shift data at this speed without generating some heat.
Maybe you should try give it the 100w PD that might change the game. I do not have this but I do have a baseus 8-1 hub and it did change the transfer rate speed after I plug a 100w PD adaptor.
It's a very good point. I really need a dock to perform without additional power but maybe this does need additional power to operate at 10gbps mode. I might test that in a future vid.
Hello…I bought this anchor 8 one hub for my M1 iPad Pro…but I can’t charge my iPad through the PD port of this hub….tried another brand hub same result I got…do u got any idea about it….if yes pls let me know
the hub takes 15W of power flat from the charger you plug in the PD input, even when nothing else is plugged in. So you need a USB-C charger that's 15W + your device charger power (so I'd say 35W at least for a 20W ipad charger; 45W for a MBA and so on)

Thank you for sharing this. I am a music creator doing mostly sample intensive work. Thank you! :)

I think optimum speed would be plugging each SSD into a separate Thunderbolt port on your computer. Using a hub which is let's say 10gbps, will share that bandwidth among all connected SSDs. So in that case, a Thunderbolt Hub will have more bandwidth to share between all connected SSDs. Now I suspect that full 10gbps speeds on each SSD for audio work might just be overkill. I mean, even internal sata SSDs (speed up to 5gbps) have never been too slow for audio in my experience, but I never did full orchestral arrangements with samples. So I guess this USB hub would work just fine, but for maximum performance, something like a thunderbolt dock should be better
I was comparing to my dock - geni.us/anker13in1 - It’s not an apples apples comparison but I wanted to know what I lost by using my nice portable hub rather than an expensive dock.

You’d lose some performance this way compared to the USB ports on a PC that are probably multiple ports but also multiple hubs. It would be fine for quick connection of devices though. Avoid USB LAN though. I don’t like them too much. Stick to the port on the PC (if you’re using Ethernet at all)
