- Anyone can win a fight in the top position, but you really have to train to survive on the bottom against an angry opponent. In this video I show you the single most important drill you can do to keep your skills applicable for real fights, including live gi and no gi demos. Gracie combative series has long since been teaching this...survival mindset not finish competition mindset.
Great and very practical self defence video.
I love Jits With Hits and it really fine tunes your pure grappling as well as your general confidence (key to developing awareness).
I prefer it with both combatants wearing padded MMA gloves where both guys can hit. Whether MMA or general jiu Jitsu training, it’s completely understated just how much effective striking options you have from the various bottom positions. Really keeps your guard passing honest.
I do this in my gym twice per week Sundays and Wednesday and once a month on a Friday we go a bit harder (Friday Fight Night) and after that we go have dinner together. only when big Competitions are around we reduce it.
Great way to fire test your skills. Thank You Stephan!
Getting punched by a guy in a tuxedo LMAO!
The fact that this has happened in a significant number of Bond films should be proof enough for you ;)
@@SelfDefenseTutorials Can't argue with that
@@SelfDefenseTutorials Rule #1 of Self-Defense: Avoid crime-ridden areas. Rule #2 of Self-Defense: Don't be a villain in a James Bond movie.
Excellent drill coach! I prefer to do this with no gloves because it's a lot easier to catch a glove and wrist control with the glove on the attacker. Open hand light slaps are more realistic. Also train to avoid the biters, head buts and eye gouges. There are no rules in a street attack.
Your the most underrated but the best fight teacher on UA-cam
so true, it's a gem.
I love this video its simple and its realistic.
Solid video.
Thank you!
it's a fun game. Playing it from full mount is even more fun
Alex N For guy on top maybe....
@@StephanKesting well, we're talking 10% power in the punches. Usually people are nice on top
Judo guys need this too. I want to be able to block/throw strikes in order to establish grip, be it on a jacket or with over under hooks so I can get a throw.
Can you create a playlist of self defense necessities? Like the gracies combative course but Stephan’s course
The revenge from that broken finger... hehehe ^^
Start from standing position.
Jits With Hits!
Punch block series: Gracie Combatives.
Would be super, same stuff with high mount position
Muito obrigado meu amigo! 👍
What if both guys wear a full face protection headgear so that the bottom can practise up kicks with control and the other guy elbows, headbutts, knees, and kicks with control?
Head gear doesn't actually protect your brain. At best, it only reduces cuts and at worst it encourages people to hit harder.
if you think full face helmets protect your brain, search for "Kudo highlights", see how many knockout there are in their fights. I'd hazard a guess that it's more than you'll see in UFC.
@@AlexN2022 i said with LIGHT contact in the answer above
I would use headgear. At least you wont get cuts, scratched up, no busted jaw, nose. Just in case. I have had a lot of people agree to go "soft/light" and they try to beat on you.
That's an excellent way of training, but why would you only want to train it a couple of times per year? I don't think you'll get very good at anything you practice only a couple of times per year.

Isn’t closed guard best for self defense?
Yes, it's very good, but you can't always get there. In this drill you should mix it up so you're using closed, open, and even half guard!
